Replace T400 WXGA LCD with WXGA+ ?

Hi,
I recently purchased a T400 with a 14.1" WXGA LCD screen -- I would like to replace it with a 14.1" WXGA+ screen.  Has anyone done this before -- or know if it's possible?
Thanks.

Solved!
Go to Solution.

That is correct. The lack of "LED" specification indicates it is in fact a CCFL backlit panel.
If purchasing a replacement LCD panel on fleebay or the likes, I would highly suggest you make your purchase based on the FRU replacement part number.
Note: If you replace the LCD panel, you will void your warranty. Always keep this in mind.

  • 15.4" WXGA TFT with LED Backlight - What are people's impressions?

I've had my T500 with WXGA TFT LED Backlighting for about a week and I have to say I am very unimpressed.
The Thinkpad works fine but the screen is terrible. Everything on the screen is washed out and videos are pixelated.
I wish i'd never chosen it. I'm considering sending it back to get the non backlit LCD.
What experiences have other users had with it? And for that matter with the standard WXGA?
    Cheers
    Lyndon

The 15% restocking fee is Lenovo policy, unless you can negotiate it out with them before you buy.  I heard they drop it if you return it and buying something more expensive....
My T500 has the LED panel.  Apparently, it is a very recent addition to the options.  It is certainly very bright, but it is not appear evenly lit.  I blame that on the odd way the panel handles off axis performance, because I can't imagine an LED screen being anything but uniform.
I've since complaining run my Eye-One screen calibrator on it and totally fixed the incredible blue shift in the display (though I knew that could be fixed).  I am thinking I can limp by with this laptop while I look for the 'one' that has a decent screen.  Then this puppy will be up on eBay.  (I wish I hadn't bought upgraded the video card, but maybe some gamer will want that feature)
I started thinking about why I want to take the $175 hit on price and start the search all over again.  I'll just use that money to soften the loss of selling it on eBay someday.

  • Can I replace my 1440x900 LCD screen with a 1680x1050 screen?

    I have a PB G4, 17" A1107, with 1.67GHz, 2GB, Double Layer Superdrive, and 1440x900 display.
The display has developed 8 vertical lines of different colors.
These lines are not visible on the external LCD connected via the DVI port. So, that
pretty much rules out the video ram as the source of the lines.
That leaves the LCD itself, and the LVDS data cable.
What I would like to do is replace the LCD with a high resilution one of
    1680x1050.
Assuming there is nothing wrong with the LVDS data cable, will
the high res lcd panel work in my A1107?
    Thanks for your exprt help.

    The logic board?
You mean the ATI 9700 graphix chip with 128MB Video Ram, right?
My G4 has the same graphics chip and video ram as the A1139 with
the 1680x1050 lcd panel. So, what are you basing your over-general
    statement of "the logic board"?
The internal layout? I am not changing the internal layout.
You obviously have never opened an A1139, nor an A1107.
You would NEVER tell the difference between them. They are
identical except for user selected options like how much ram,
dual layer or single layer  dvd drive,  has wireless or not, has
1440x900 or 1680x1050 panel.... those kind of differences.
    But otherwise they are identical.
I am not saying I would go ahead and do it, and **** the torpedos.
I was hoping to see if someone has some real experience of having done it
or tried to do it, and share that experience with some hard technical facts.
    Regards,

  • Replace a cracked non-retina iPad mini LCD with retina LCD & digitzer?

My iPad mini screen is cracked and I am going to have it replaced by a 3rd party repair service. I am just wondering if it may be possible for me to have the current cracked non-retina LCD with a retina LCD screen and digitizer? If any of you know that this is in fact possible, reference someone you know that can do this. Thanks guys!
***P.S. I know- this voids my warranty. I am not interested in those types of responses

Ah you're right... I have the A5 whereas the retina has the A7... Didn't think about that! That is why I asked. No need for the attitude. I was more wondering if it was POSSIBLE though. But hey, thanks for the response!

IMNSHO, always go with a 64 bit OS.  With Win 7 32 you will probabaly be able to use all of your RAM, but if you add more RAM at some point you won't be able to use it without going to a 64 bit OS.
A 32 bit system can address 4G of address space but Windows tends to reserve the top 1G (more or less) for addressing installed (and future) peripheral devices and graphics card RAM.  Any RAM above ~3G simply goes to wast.

  • How can I repair a screen that pixelates and goes white randomly without replacing the whole LCD ?

I bought a unibody Macbook Pro 13,3" in 2009 (refurbished), so it is out of guarantee.
Since about two weeks, my screen randomly freezes on image, pixelates
and goes white. Like this. To correct the problem, I have to adjust the angle
of my screen, or press on the corner of the cover and it returns to normal.
    But not for long.
I removed the bottom cover to remove all the dust in the hardware, the fan, the circuits
and what is related with the screen system. I verified the cables, the inverter, it was
in a really good condition. Note that I never dropped it or spilled liquid on or near my
laptop, I am a real maniac.
I talked to an Apple Genius here in Montreal, I explained it was not software
or graphics-related since I tried my computer on an external screen (which
worked fine even when the screen freezed). The only solution they found in
the Apple Store was to replace the entire LCD, at full price.
I then visited my local repair shop and the man did the same thing as me,
watching the components, connections, circuitry and when the problem
    happened, he was puzzled.
I'm aware this problem is more and more often among Macbook users, and
I didn't find any solution elsewhere on Internet, so please, if anybody finds
out the origin of  the problem, answer this thread and you'll help us all !
    Thank you.

I would think that the Apple store Genius' diagnosis is correct.  What you might consider is purchasing the display and installing it your self and thereby saving some money for a Molson or two.  There are places on the web where you can find detailed instructions such as iFixit.  If that is out of your realm, then bite the bullet and have the Genius do it for you (then you do get a 90 day warranty).
    Ciao.

  • Replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?

Can you replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?
Where would I get a Matte Screen for a reasonable price if I could change it?

There are a number of issues you should consider before embarking on this project.
    1. If you have a late-2008 unibody MBP, you are undoubtedly aware that there was never any anti-glare option offered for that machine. So there is no anti-glare display that was made to work with it.
    2. If you choose to replace only the LCD panel and not the entire display assembly — which is probably feasible but involves a great deal of painstaking work — you will also need to buy (separately) the aluminum bezel that takes the place of the glossy cover glass panel in models that came equipped with the nonglare screen. The bezel covers and protects the edges of the LCD and the delicate electronic connections there, and hides all that from view.
    3. If you go that route, you will have to make sure that the cabling related to the display you are installing is identical to the cabling related to your original display. This means checking to make sure the cable lengths, connectors and routing both within the display assembly and hinge cover and within the lower case of the computer are all the same.
    4. If you choose to replace the entire display assembly with one that contains a nonglare LCD, you will have the entire, intact glossy display assembly available to sell afterward. If you replace only the LCD panel, the LCD and glass cover panel that you remove will have much less resale value and are likely to be much harder to sell at all, because you won't practically be able to offer any warranty with them and because there are probably far fewer people willing to tackle the fussy, risky display disassembly process than are willing to replace the whole assembly as a unit.
    5. Even if you choose to replace the entire assembly, you will need to verify that the cables dangling from the replacement display assembly are the right lengths and have the right connectors to tie into your lower case properly. Because the assembly will have come from a later MBP model than yours, cable routing and connectors may have changed from one to the other.
If this all sounds more daunting than you were expecting, you may want to consider just applying a nonglare film to the glass covering your present screen. If you aren't happy with the results, you can fall back on the replacement option.

  • T400 2764-CTO with led backlit. startup or back from sleep, the led backlit won't turn on itself

    I have a 4 month old T400 2764-CTO with led backlit.
sometime when I start up T400 or come back from sleep mode, the backlit won't just turn on itself. I can see what it shows on the LCD somehow if the environment is not too bright. Only if I log in and put the system to sleep again and wake it up, the backlit comes back mysteriously.
Is this a setup problem or some defect with led backlit?
I have tried with vista home basic and vista business and both of them have this problem.

Perhaps this might solve your problem (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T400_series_ThinkPads&thread.id=9159). I run a T41 under XPPro so am not sure if this is applicable, however I too get a dimming when switching to battery.

  • Proper FRU for replacing bad X100e LCD unit?

I have an X100e which is a few months out of warranty; and the screen recently started going blank (still lit, so the backlight isn't the problem...). It's been in a state where the angle changes whether it will turn on--sometimes upwards/forwards pressure will turn the screen on. I took it apart and found that the thick round cable going into the LCD from the graphics unit (not one of the antennae, perhaps DC-in?) was extremely worn, so that I could see traces of the copper. I'm guessing this is the issue, though a different cable is also possible I looked at the Hardware Maintenance Manual, but am not sure what FRU this corresponds to. What I'd prefer to do if possible is replace the whole LCD unit, complete with cables, but I want to verify what I'm getting. What FRU numbers/parts labels should I look for? (I have already replaced the keyboard, so the above information should get me if I diagnosed it properly).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are 2 choices of cable depending on your 4-digit model number. Most models use 45M2885. For that one, here is one on eBay from a seller I use all the time for $9 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X100e-Fru-45M2885-LCD-LED-Video-Cable-Tested-/280830398533?p...
Models starting with 3507 use 45M2918, which is hard to find, but you can buy it from IBM here: http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/TopCategoriesDisplay?cntrfnbr...
From your description, I am not 100% sure what part you mean. I am sending you a pm with my email address and you can send a picture if you wish.

  • How to replace typewriter (straight) apostrophe with typographic (curly) apostrophe?

I have a manuscript I got off the Internet that has a bunch of isn?t's and wasn?t's and the like—due, I assume, to some miscommunication between MS Word's automatic curly quotes and the ASCII limits of ISO Latin 1. I tried doing a find-and-replace to put typographic apostrophes in place of the question marks. Pages found the question marks and put typewriter apostrophes in place of them, though I'd carefully entered a typographical apostrophe ((opt-shift-]) in the Replace field. So I tried again, to replace the typewriter apostrophes with typographical apostrophes. Pages now replaced the few typographical apostrophes I'd manually entered with typewriter apostrophes. Well, at least it's consistent. So far as Pages, Apple's flagship word-processing/page-layout app is concerned, there's apparently no such thing as a typographical apostrophe—something that was understood, as I recall, by the original MacWrite 25 years ago. So do I have to go back to doing all my editing in TextEdit (which seems to be much better at text work than Pages), or can somebody tell me how to persuade Pages to take care of this trifling little task correctly?

Copy these two paragraphs into a Pages WP document:
    When you?re sleep deprived… parental control of baby?s sleep… meet baby?s needs consistently… respond to baby?s cries…
"Parents should recognize that having their babies cry unnecessarily harms the baby permanently," Commons said. "It changes the nervous system so they?re overly sensitive to future trauma."
Open the Find & Replace dialog. Enter Find: ? and Replace: ’ (opt-shift-}). (I.e. replace question mark with typographical apostrophe.) Click Replace All. It should say 5 Replaced. Check any of the replacements by enlarging the type; you’ll see an ASCII apostrophe ['] rather than the requested typographical version [’].
Then enter Find:  " (space-") and Replace:  “ (space-opt-[), and click Replace All. It will say 1 Replaced, meaning the quote mark preceding "It" in the second sentence (the only quote mark preceded by a space). Enlarge the replacement to see it clearly; it's replaced an ASCII " with another ASCII ".
So far as I can tell, Pages’ Find-Replace function can't tell the difference between ASCII apostrophe/quote marks and the typographical versions. Maybe it will once you turn on smart quotes in preferences; I haven't tried that -- but then of course you'd get smart quotes when you don't want them, for instance for something to be posted on an Internet forum, which often doesn't understand them. (The problems above and similar, often seen on the 'Net, are due to MS Word's having smart quotes on by default, so unaware users compose material with them and send it out over teh Interwebz, where they sometimes come through correctly, sometimes don't.)
Try the same experiment in TextEdit; you'll get the requested typographical versions. And so I did, then copied the text back to Pages. Like I said, kinda shoddy for Apple's Pride & Joy word processor. AppleWorks, by the way, does it right.

  • Replace one itunes account with another

I have the itunes application downloaded on my laptop but i recently made another itunes account and i want the new one to be on the Itunes application. So i uninstalled the application thinking that if i downloaded it again it would ask me for an account. Except all it did was restore the old account. I am wondering if anyone knows how to replace one itunes account with another. If you know anything that can be useful comment.

    Store > Sign Out
    Store > Sign In
All purchases remain tied to the account used to buy them, but you can authorize iTunes to multiple accounts and put protected content from up to five on your devices. Generally best to stick to one account if possible. More so once you get to iOS devices as managing app updates over multiple devices is a chore.
