Replace the CCFL lamp on HP HDX18-1180CA

How to open up the screen and replace the CCFL lamp and where ca I buy the lamp?

Hi,
There are plenty of new HDD's around, you don't need this part from HP. You can use Wester Digital, Seagate, Toshiba ... HDD and there are many sizes but try one with 1TB, 7200RPM and big cache such as few of the following list:

You can find the procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on P# 44 of the following manual:

  • PLEASE HELP -T61p- CCFL lamp not working even after replacement

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first post so please bear with me.
Skip the first three paragraphs if you don't have time.
I bought a T61p in jan-2008. I have sent this thinkpad to service centers for repair a couple of times, once for replacing the motherboard( the bios updater screwedup) and the other time for a broken LCD hinge. The service was excellent (they even sent me spare parts a couple of times like keyboard, touchpad etc).
A few months ago  i spilled some beer on the keyboard, so immediately switched it off, opened the laptop and carefully cleaned everything. Switched it on, TADA it works as good as before.
A couple of months back i realized my warranty is about to expire so i though i would send the system for a final checkup. Now the guys at the service center tell me that there is a spill and to repair it i need accidental coverage which i don't have and cannot buy after the "accident". To repair it they asked for an advance of $800 - the laptop costs around 1400, it seemed to me that the cost of repair was too high. So they send me back my machine.
Now when i switch on my machine, i can see that the screen is active (if i look it at an angle i can see even different colors) but it is almost pitch black. I did some research, bought an inverter and lcd connection cords from lenovo and replaced the old one, no difference. Thought it must be the CCFL lamp, so bought a new lcd screen and replaced the existing one, still no difference. Frustrated, i removed the whole lcd from the hinge and connected my machine to an external monitor, this works perfectly.
My Question: Where is the problem, i replaced lcd, inverter, the connector cords. If there is problem with the graphics card the external monitor shouldn't work(i can even play games on it). Is there anything that can be done (a laptop is better than a converted desktop). Please share your expert thoughts, opinions and comments.
    Thanks,
    Elliot

  • Possible to change the CCFL myself?

Hi the screen of my ibook is starting to get really dim and i suspect it could be due to the CCFL, the backlight of the LCD. Is there a way i can change it myself? Or can i ask apple to change it for me?
A friend of mine tried asking apple to change it but they refused but instead recommending him to change the whole display which was costly.
If it is possible to change it myself, where could i get the light?

    Alex,
In the 4+ years that I've been posting in this forum, nobody has ever replaced the light or complained that it burned out. It's true that there's a first time for (nearly) everything, but I would think that a burnt-out light would act like a burnt-out light and just not work, not get dimmer and dimmer as is happening here.
Emerging Lighting Technologies has been selling on eBay since May of last year and has a 525, 100% positive feedback rating. They are selling backlight replacement lamps, so if the best bet (the inverter board) doesn't work, perhaps nsfx84 will want to try there. It looks like it will probably around $20, including shipping.
PowerBook Tech's instructions on removing the display housing may be helpful. I know of no specific online instructions on replacing the backlight lamp, but a Google search may prove fruitful.

  • T400: Replace CCFL lamp or whole LCD?

    Hi everybody,
So my CCFL lamp on my T400 has pretty much died. I'm pretty sure it's not the inverter card due to the pink hue towards the bottom & the (lowering) hissing noise before the LCD shuts off. First noticed it would die pretty soon when the screen started flickering on dim settings.
At first I started to look for LCD assemblies (I have the Samsung panel one, LTN141WD-L05) , then told myself-dumb me! why not just replace the lamp (or both, since we there) since my LCD's doing just fine.
But then some people versed in laptops in general (but none had ever changed CCFL lamps before) told me I was better off changing the LCD assembly all together, since replacing the lamps is apparently a daunting & nerve wracking task. I'm not scared myself in replacing the whole LCD-I've change the LCD cover of a previous ThinkPad before and have disassembled this one countless times, including changing the CPU heatsink/fan unit-although never reaching the point of removing the LCD bezel (I did came close, when I had to check the hinges-but that's another story). And then, I don't think CCFL lamps are FRUs, and the HMM sure doesn't go into that territory.
    So, my question:
Has anybody ever changed CCFL lamps in a ThinkPad/other laptop? Is there even a guide out there ? (I'm still searching around for one)
Oh, and by the way, yes, my T400 is out of warranty (bought it in 2009, extended warranty expired in 2012)
Another detail: I live in Montreal, Canada, and I'd be happy to have it done by some local shop that would have competence in this. I mention local, because if I had to ship it I think I'd rather buy & have myself shipped a whole LCD unit instead. So I'm supposed to call tomorrow to my local Lenovo service center & a few approved service provider (from Lenovo's website) to inquire about their prices **and** turn-around time (again, if it takes a month I'd do either one of the repairs myself)
Thanks in advance, any feedback will be appreciated.
Edit: There's actually only one CCFL lamp in the LTN141WD-L05.
    ThinkPad T400 (2764-CTO): Windows 7 64 SP2 / T9400 2.53 GHz / 8GB RAM / 14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900) / ATI Radeon HD 3470 + Intel 4500MHD (switchable) / 320GB 7200rpm / DVD±RW / Intel WiFi 5300

Hissing comes from the inverter. Redness from the CCFL. Both must be replaced.
Having changed a CCFL myself on a T30 many years ago I swore never to do it again, and would advise everyone else to just flip the screen or an entire assembly. The chances of introducing dust specs between the LCD layers in the process of swapping the bulb are just way too high for my liking, and that's only one of the problems.
Secondly, Samsung screens are in general a horror show to change the CCFL on, regardless of the generation.
Lastly, T400 panels are rather inexpensive nowadays...
If you insist on a guide, here's the best one there is, at least in my opinion:

  • My projector wont project,,replaced the bulb, still doesnt work

recently my projecter was acting up, the screen was slowly fading inward and not showing a full screen. I went to turn it on today to use it and the red light (lamp light) lit up and there was NO screen at all on the wall.
I assumed the bulb went, so I replaced it, and it still has the red lamp lit on and still there is no screen projecting. how the hell do u fix this?
    frustrated as all get out
    dontnojack (abt this stuff)

    hello,,
did you replace the screen or the stylus?
because the stylus is just a ordinary metal stick (nothing special on it)
you can even replace the stylus with a stick made of wood
the digitizer problem is on the screen it self
    just do reset
    1st do soft reset
if its not going to work do warm reset and if still not helping do a hard reset
just after the hard reset if same problem, the screen is defective already

  • Can i change the "computer" icon from the "luxo lamp" iMac to a 20" iMac?

    Hi,
In the finder (and File > Open dialog box), the icon that represents my computer is an image of the "luxo lamp" iMac (the one with the dome base).
Since my Mac is a current 20" intel Mac, I'd like to change the icon to one that looks like my actually computer. Is there a way to do this?
If there is no easy way to choose a different icon, then seems to be it nearly qualifies as a defect -- why show a picture of my Mac that doesn't look like my Mac? Surely all of us (MacBook users, Mac Mini users, iMac users) would prefer the icon to default to the model of our actual machine?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

    20" intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 gig Ram, x1600 128Meg video

Yes you can change it, I have done so in the past, but if you run a combo update it gets changed back, so I haven't bothered lately--although since we're now at 10.4.9 that will no longer be a problem.
You need a way to create and edit icns files and a willingness to mess with system files. You then go here:
    "/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/iMac.icns"
When you get to the CoreTypes.bundle you need to use the Contextual Menu and select Show Package Contents, then continue travelin' on down. Copy the iMac.icns file by dragging to your Desktop (it won't move out of the original folder), open the copy in an icns editor and modify it to what you want, then save. Next drag your modified file into the Resources folder--you'll be asked to Authenticae in order to do that thing, and asked if you want to replace the original, when you say yes you will have to give your admin password. You will then need to restart to see the change.
If you've never done this sort of thing before and don't know a thing about icns files, nor have an icns editor installed (there's one in Developer Tools), it probably isn't worth it.

I have a web app which uses Xalan (2.3.1++) runnin on 7.0.0.1. It runs fine in

  • Satellite A505-S69803 - How to replace the Wlan card?

Before I go into the details of my problem.
I have rolled out a DSL product, set up hundreds of wireless routers. I was a notebook service tech for 3 years for laptops as well.
I picked up a toshiba cause the price is right, and so far I am learning you get what you pay for.
This machine has a realtek wireless card.
As everyone knows.. Realtek == cheaply made bad hardware.
Toshiba refuses to replace this card.
I need to buy a new card for this laptop.
    I need to know if this is a mini-pci, half height mini-pci, a pci-e, or mini-pci-e card.
I plan on getting an intel for it.
I also need the whitepapers so I can remove the wrist pad / bezel on this unit. They have users guides, but unlike other notebook manufacturers, do not have their service manuals available.
Any assistance to get this laptop fixed would be appreciated. It is leaving town with my parents soon.

    hi vlad2,
realtek is also known to run perfekt under linux - this indicates that the hardware isnt so bad as you think...
toshiba sells the unit as specified - if you wanna have some other hardware choose another notebook modell or replace the wlan by yourself...
if unsure what card is in it , open the door under which the card is located - for an notebook tech pro like you no big thing - and check it.
replacing this piece should be easy...
to answer your complaint: +"Toshiba refuses to replace this card."+
sure this! if it works there is no need to replace and you will get allways the same as spare because this modell comes with it...
i dont like it to repeat me but a notebook technician should be able to disassemble this machine (you will ruin your warranty with this action)
disassembling the covers is a service partner thing - not for customers...
by the way: +"I am learning you get what you pay for"+ means what you see is what you get, spending some extra money is not bad at all...
you cant get a mercedes for the price of a little car...
and whats your technical problem with the wlan?

  • Replacing the optical drive in a hp pavilion dv6t-7000 notebook (warranty replacement).

The replacement drive comes with a cable (OPTICAL DISK DRIVE DVD RW FX - Includes cable). What is the cable used for? and/or where does it go when replacing the drive?

I think they made a mistake, I am guessing that the cable is a laptop SATA hard drive cable.
If you took a picture of it I could tell you what it's for.

I accidently replaced a file with another.  Can I undo my action?
I had two files named graphics.  One was on my desktop and another was within another file called solitarie.  I move the one on my desktop (wrong file) into the solitarie file and was asked if I wanted to replace the graphics file in the solitarie folder (the correct one).  I said yes accidently and then remembered that I had made a mistake.  If I use undo, it only move the wrong file back to the desktop.  Is there an undo of replace?

Sorry, but's that's why you get the warning. "Replace" means just that - the new file over-writes the old one. There is no undo.

I have a Mc g5 with the 10.4.11 operating system. Your site is my home page and it kept bugging me to update to the firefox 4. So I did now when I try to get on it tells me that that "I can not open this application because it is not supported on this system". It replaced the old firefox that I had so I can not open that. I have no way to get to my book marks and I need them. Let me know how to get back to my old firefox and book marks.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

I want to open a folder in a separate window by clicking on it.  For some reason when I click on a folder it just replaces the one I was just in.  I want them both to be open at the same time without having to go through several steps. Old apple operating systems made it easy to have several folders open at one time.

Eric, thanks that works but seems like an extra added step also to do it that way.  I've got to move and organize a ton of files and I'm looking for a easy way to get this done.  I could also open the folder into a separate tab and then drag the tab out so it becomes an open window but thats a lot of fussing around also with extra steps.  Not sure why these newer operating system seems more confusing and less user friendly than what they used to.  In the past I could just click on any folder and it would open in a separate window making it really easy to copy or move files from one place to the other just by simply dragging them from one window to the other.  Seems like I'm going through several extra steps now to do a simple task.
