"Replace with AE Linked Comp" Causes AE To Crash On Open, CS5

Hi all,
Just got my system back and running after a quick uninstall/reinstall/update to 5.0.3 yesterday.  I attempted to send video to a linked composition in AE by right clicking in the timeline.  AE opened and allowed me to name the new AE project, but then proceeded to crash and provide the following message:
Any thoughts on what's causing this glitch?  Utilizing the linked composition is ideal for this project, but I'll go about the old fashioned way if I have to...
Thanks, Lindsay

Whoops should have been more specific about the reinstall etc.  I completely removed and reinstalled hte entire Produciton suite.  Then ran all upates through Bridge>Help>udpates.  After effects is currently version 10.0.2.4
Thanks
Lindsay

  • "replace with after effect comp" problem

I started my project in Prelude where I mad subclips.  I then imported those subclips to premiere to edit my story.  Some of those subclips I would like to key or do other effects with in after effects, but I when I click on those clips and choose replace with after effects composition the clip that is opened in after effects does not have the same in and out points as the one in the premiere timeline.  it is from the same clip and is the same duration but it just always starts at the beginning of the master clip.  Is there something I am doing wrong or is there a better way to go about this?

Sorry, but something is definitely wrong with your workflow but not with the above.
When you select a clip or a group of clips in PrPro timeline and then choose 'Replace With After Effects Composition', AE creates and automatically opens a brand new composition, in which number of layers and their In and Out points correspond to a number of clips replaced with AE composition and their In and Out points in the PrPro Timeline accordingly (i.e. layers in that AE composition are appropriately trimmed and distributed in time).
See another one image, if you didn't notice that in the previous one the layer was trimmed:
So, the question is, what do you do to achieve what you see in AE, since you shouldn't do any extra steps to get correct result, 'cos AE opens that newly created composition automatically? Do you jump back to AE Project pan in an attempt to create a composition out of imported assets once again?

  • Deny Access function with invalid file refnum causes LabVIEW to crash

    Hi folks,
I have LabVIEW 8.5, and today encountered something interesting that consistently causes LabVIEW to crash.  Essentially, if you find the "Deny Access" function under the advanced file IO palette and wire up an invalid refnum, Windows (XP in my case) reports that LabVIEW has to close.  I checked in task manager, and the LabVIEW process is still active and using a disproportionate amount of the CPU.
To reproduce the issue, simply drop the function on your block diagram, create a constant from the refnum input terminal, and run the VI.  Has anyone else seen this behavior?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Carla,
I'm glad to help, and thanks for looking into it.  The way I ran into the bug was while I was working on an action engine VI to log certain text values (see attached picture).  While logging, I didn't want other programs to access the file.  When a new file had to be generated, I wanted to stop denying access and close the reference.  However, if the value on the shift register was invalid, LabVIEW crashed instead of throwing an error (I guess a crash qualifies as an error).
If you look at the attached picture, my workaround was to use the "Not A Number/Path/Refnum?" function.  If the reference is bad, I don't try to use the "Deny Access" funtion or close the file.  That worked just fine and seems like a good solution for now.

  • Clicking on certain links will cause Firefox to crash on exit. These are normal links, not malformed or maliciously constructed links

Any link of the following form will not execute the link: http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=23352. After attempting this, exiting Firefox will cause CPU to go to 50% on a dual core machine. This is confirmed on 3 separate machines. Links of the following format will work: http://roadtoendeavour.wordpress.com/2010/12/18/how-oppy-rolled-up-to-santa-maria. This bug is present on at least the last two to three revisions of Firefox. It is necessary to manualy kill the firefox process after exiting when a link as described is used.

Problem appears to be incompatibility with the Java Console. Deleting the Java Console eliminates the problem. This also eliminated the problem with Firefox developing blank drop down menus.

  • Hi - Are there any known issues with Webroot Secure Anywhere causing Firefox to crash?

    Hi -
I use Webroot for anti spyware and anti virus (Webroot Antivirus with Spysweeper) which is Version 7.
The program keeps bugging me to upgrade to Webroot SecureAnywhere, which is Version 8, so I gave it a try.
Sure enough, Firefox crashed every few minutes. So I un-installed SecureAnywhere (retaining Version 7) and everything was fine again.
So not sure what to do. Perhaps try another anti-virus (and if so, what do you recommend) or just keep Webroot Version 7 (which continues to scan and update just fine, from what I can see).
    Thank you,
    Randy

First (this isn't an official Mozilla opinion, just personal experience), I find Webroot to be rather a poor quality anti-virus, with poor detection rates, and lots of problems when it does run. My opinion is to use Microsoft Security Essentials for anti-virus. It is free, light and quite good. [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials]. If you decide to go with it, uninstall webroot first.
Now, if you decide to keep webroot, you can try fully uninstalling it, then reinstalling it. Also, if you go to "About:crashes" in your firefox address bar, do you have any crash ids (they start with bp-).

  • New 02/26/2013 Update Causes Muse  to Crash Upon Opening

The new update for Muse causes the program to crash when I try to open an existing site, or try to begin a new site. This happens using the startup screen, and also the program's "File" pull-down menu. This did not happen prior to the Muse program update on 02/26. PLEASE HELP!
Muse Relsease Version v4.0, Build 557, CL 774025
    AIR Runtime 3.6.0.5970
I have the crash report that Apple generates and am happy to send it via email it to the Muse support team upon request. I am using a MacBook with OS X 10.6.8, and running Muse through Adobe Creative Cloud.

The AIR team has just released a new update(version 3.6.0.6090 to replace the older 3.6.0.5970) which should fix many of the Muse crashes seen by some users on the mac.
You can get the latest version from http://get.adobe.com/air/

  • Mac with Mavericks not allowing to Save As, crashes when opening files, sloooow

***_{NSArrayM objectAtindex:]: Index 20 beyond bounds [0..15} is a error I get often

    I agree with Chris.
Since I installed Mavericks, ANY TIME I use File>Open or Save As from ANY app at all... I get a 30 second or longer view of the "spinner" going round and round until i can finally see the folder I etiher want to open a file from or save one to.
It's a real P.I.T.A. and I eagerly await the 10.9.1 update that will hopefully fix it.

  • Damaged document causes InDesign to crash when opening.

I have a short document that crashes InDesign everytime I open it. I have tried emptying the recovery data and using the dutch 'restore' script, but it still won't open.
Are there any other options? I can send the document over if someone would be kind enough to check it to see if they can figure out the problem? Am on quite a tight deadline with this one (I literally had almost finished...) so any help would be appreciated.

Hi , thanks for getting back to me, yes it was the :blindOpen_and IDML-Export script. I could run the script but when i assume when it 'blind-opened' the document there was a problem and InDesign stopped working.
The document has 130pp. text and about 10 jpgs. scattered throughout. It was taken from a PDF export then inserted into InDesign. Images were placed normally.
One strange thing - there was a lot of latin auto-fill text at the end of the document. When I went to delete this, the programme stopped working.

  • Error with "Replace wtih After Effects Comp"

When I use "Replace with After Effects Comp" on a clip in Premier CS5 (Mac), it sends the clip properly, I make my effect in AE (stabilize motion), save, then go back to premier and there is not change to the clip in premier (the change was clear and obvious in AE). In the lower right is a red circle wth an X -- clicking on it indicates "an unspecified error ocurred performaning an action" on the saved AE file.
The clip in Premier is marked red and indicates it is linked to the AE file, but the applied effect has not come through, it just looks like the original.
However, when I make other changes in AE, sich as adding text, no problem -- it updates in Premier.
What could be preventing "Replace with After Effects Comp" from workgin with AE stablizie image tracking files?
Using CS5 on a Mac (10.6.7) wiht the latest updater updates installed on all CS5 products)
    Really stuck here. Thanks!

Can I not render wihin AE and have the rendered clip automatically link into Premier?
This method should give you realtime playback of your Ae comp
in the Pr timeline, but you will still have to render first.
Use the "Post-Render Action" in the Ae render queue to import your
completed render into your Ae project, then drop it into your
composite as the top layer, solo that layer, then save and exit.
Open Pr, and you should be able to play the composite without
having to render the timeline... unless there is a deficit in the
horsepower of your rig as Jim suggested in an earlier post.

  • Trouble opening .inx files in CS3 - links randomly replaced with foo.jpg

I have to move a lot of CS4 InDesign files to CS3, and I often run into a bizarre problem. After opening an .inx file in InDesign CS3, sometimes perfectly normal PDF, JPG, EPS and AI files will mysteriously be replaced with a linked file called "foo.jpg" that InDesign thinks is missing (it always reports the path as "c:foo.jpg"). I then have to go figure out what the original file was actually called and where it was saved and relink it manually.
There is no rhyme or reason to when linked files don't come over - our logo is saved in one location and linked in every single piece we make, yet sometimes it links fine when imported into CS3 and sometimes it doesn't. Going back to CS4 and exporting a new .inx file never works - a file that will not link correctly in CS3 will never show up correctly.
It always thinks "foo" is a .jpg file, even if the original link was actually a .pdf, .eps or whatever.
    Any ideas? I'm perplexed.

Smells like a bug to me. Did you try reporting it?
What happens if you search the incp file for "foo"? Does it find
    anything?
When the vendor opens the file, what is the link name on his end?

  • Stabilizing not working with Dynamic Link

    So, here's the steps:
    1) Right click clip in premiere
    2) Select 'Replace with after effects comp...'
    3) In AE i click 'Stabilize Motion'
    4) Select motion source 'cu_1.mpeg' the only video track
    5) Check 'Position' and 'Rotation'
    6) Setup my two tracking points
    7) Click 'Analyze Forward' button
    8) When analyzing is done i click 'Apply'
At this point the clip is stabilized.
    9) Click 'Save' and return to premiere
This is where the problem is.  Premiere sees the linked AE comp but doesn't do all the stabilizing.  From what i can tell it's doing the anchor point but ignoring the rotation in the AE comp.  I think this because i do see the edge of the frame moving around like it's doing some stabilization.
The clip is fine if I pre-render the AE comp.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    p

It's not enough to just type : embedFonts = true.. You have
to link also your fonts to be included in the produced flash - but
be careful. It will increase enough your swf 's file size,
depending the sets of fonts you enter!
The only secure way I have found to do it, using and other
languages characters, is to create a movieclip inside the first
frame of my file, containing dynamic texts with all types fonts
that I am using in my application (i.e. Myriad Pro, Myriad Pro
Bold, Myriad Pro Italic.. etc). I type on those texts just a dot,
and I embed them via Flash CS3 enviroment my fonts. Then I make the
    movieclip Invisible.
If you want an example check this one:
    http://www.sp7.gr/adobe_forum_data/04_EmbedFonts.zip
Due to embed fonts, the size of swf is ~180KB, although it
    displays just a fading text....!

  • "Replace with after effects composition" on Premiere gives me a empty AE project...

I'm selecting and right clicking footage from my Premiere timeline, clicking "Replace with after effects composition", and getting a black, empty screen on After Effects.. There is no footage under Project in AE, and the footage I selected on Premiere also became black. .
I'm using the CS5 version of both programs, and video clips from my 7D... What could be wrong?

I am also having this problem.   It worked before but now it isn't   I did change to Windows 8 recently but I don't know why that would cause it.   Here are some pictures to show
Premiere Pro CC and AE CC both updated today, both restared today.  You can see the footage is there and PP is reading it.  It is an MPEG2 file.  easy.
Right Click on replace with after effect comp
AE opens up and I create a new project
Comp is blank.  No footage.  Lenght is correct though.
If I tab back to Premiere the footage is gone and shows only black.
    Please help.

  • Problem with Dynamic Link

I originally had premiere pro cs4 and later for production premium.  When trying to replace with After Effects Comp, I get the error message, "Adobe Dynamic Link requires Production Premium"
I contacted customer service and they pointed me to a thread here that discussed the clean script.  So, I uninstalled production premium (I had uninstalled premiere pro before ever installing production premium) and ran the clean scipt database utility.  After choosing the language and agreeing to the terms, it says that no entries are found, so nothing happens.  Is this a Windows 7 issue?  I assume its trying to wipe the registry.
Help would be appreciated.  I'm getting a CS5 upgrade soon, but hopefully I can fix this issue before this happens.
    Thanks.

When I did it, I did reboot and tried running it again, but I don't think it is doing anything.  It says its not finding anything installed when I run the clean script.  I'll try again and reboot and repeat 2 more times than last time, but it just takes a long time to reinstall the product.
What do I do if this doesn't work?

  • 'replace with after effects composition'

hey guys, so when editing this one video in pr, I decided to color correct a couple clips in AE so I just right clicked them and chose replace with after effects composition, so it would nicely replace in the pr timeline with the corrected footage.
except when I finished the third one I looked back and realized the first two clips were replaced with the thrird clip! so that clip appeared 3 times in my video! I was trying to import the ae comps separately and everything but it kept thinking that they were the same clip, the ae projects were all named clip 1, clip 2 and clip 3, I could open them up in ae and they were fine, just not when bringing them to ae.
why is this? thats not supposed to be right?  I should be able to 'replace with after effects comp' for multiple clips if I want right?

Grant, I did figure it out (and felt rather silly when I did). You have to select all your files from the Project portion of AE and drag them into the Render segment - bottom left corner of your AfterEffects screen - in order for them to play. I guess I should have come back to the forum and reported once I got it working, so everyone would know that there's nothing wrong with Adobe. Once you do that, there are all sorts of super-cool things you can do with a slide show for video presentation. I did decide to put it into Windows Media Play and convert to MPEG before uploading to the internet, however, because it reduced the size to roughly 15% of AVI. I preserved AVI for DVD because of quality, which is far better.
There's an awesome video tutorial - thank you, Andrew Kramer!! - on creating slideshows at: http://library.creativecow.net/articles/kramer_andrew/slideshows/video-tutorial.php - now that you (hopefully) know what you're doing wrong in AE.
