Replace WLAN Mini PCI Card in U350

I got a brand new U350 end of last week, and beside the fan noise I'm really happy with the device (like many others I do hope Lenovo will provide an updated BIOS that will change the fan behavior to make it more quiet).
However, I'd like to replace the Broadcam b/g WLAN Mini PCI Card with a b/g/n card. I was thinking of getting an Intel 5100AN card and was wondering if such a card would work, or if there is a lock in the BIOS that will prevent it from working (I read somewhere that even if Lenovo uses such cards, the ones you can purchase in stores would not work).
Thanks,
Mike

Thank you for your answer. I appreciate.
Since my question, I've found a solution for my wifi card to work. It was given by "electrochain". It just consisted by manually disabling a specific pin on my card. And now, it works.
Thank you again.
Best regards

  • Wireless mini PCI card for Satellite P10

    Hi all,
can anyone help me find a wireless mini pci card for my Satellite P10-304 in the UK?

    Hi
I found several WLAn minPCI Wlan cards which could be compatible with the Satellite P10 notebook.
Wireless LAN card PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b)
    PA3273U-2MPC (Atheros 802.11ab)
    PA3300U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11g)
    PA3298U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11a/g)
Please take a look on the WLan 802.11 standards!
If you WLan router support an 802.11 standard I would recommend taking the PA3273U-2MPC or PA3212U-4MPC

  • Mini PCI Card causes Mac Pro to think the CPUs are overheating

I bought a Mini PCi Card that I am using in an 8x 2.28 machine and when I put it in the system thinks the CPUs are overheating (red lights near RAM risers). When I pull it out there is no problem.  Any way to force MacPro to bypass POST?  Any other ideas?

This is called driving in the dark, blind.
What card is it you are trying to use, and what is the make, etc of it? and there are a couple makes of adpaters.
There are PCI cards that were keyed for 3.3v and 5v and some for both.
Anyone that dealt with SCSI controllers, with how even the drivers and firmware of the drive and card and OS had to be matched and certified to be compatible.
Buit all of this is just meaningless chatter.
I think you are calling a PCIe 1x slot as mini.
And why would you want to?
Again, plug in the make/model and other specs and facts, then hit Bing (or Google, but I come to prefer Bing).

  • U450P worldwide broadband mini pci card

Anyone know of a card 3g mini pci card compatible with UMTS/HSDPA worldwide? The card supplied on Lenovo's site is AT&T branded. The U450P comes with a slot for such a card (or an ssd drive) . Will appreciate any pointers however new the series may be. Thanks!

  • Satellite 5200-903: Mini PCI Card doesn`t work

    Hello,
I am a user of an:
    Satellite 5200-903: P4-M 2.2/256+256 DDR/60GB/15T SXGA+/DVD-R-RW/nV FX 5600/cPad/WIFI ready/XP
My computer is equipped with an Toshiba Wirless lan Mini PCI Card.
I installed the card a few years ago - everything worked wonderfull.
At the beginning of 2006 I installed a new operating system (XP Pro + SP1, same system as before) because it was necessary.
I installed all driver for the W-Lan Card, obviously the card worked in the correct way (no driver incompatibility or other problems).
But, and thats the reason of this topic here. It isn`t possible to connect my card to any Hot Spot. I tried it with 2 different access points, but the result is the same. "No connection Point found".
Has anyone any idea what to do or in which direction I could look for the failure? Is there maybe any special Software necessary (I couldn`t remember, that in my last installation I had needed special driver or software)
If further informations are necessary, please inform myself.
(sorry for the terrible english, but it isnt my first language.)
    THX for your help

    Hi,
thx for the hints. But unfortunately none of these solved my problem.
    1. I checked my device Manager, it`s shown a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini Pci Card
    2. The device is activated, with no problems
    3. My wireless activation switch on the left notebook side is activated (led lights yellow)
    4. Pushing the Fn+F8 Button results nothing
(wenn i press the combination during the Notebook switch is off - i got the message "wireless connection is deactivated, please activate")
What have to happen, when pushing the Fn+F8 Button during the wireless switch is activated? Is there any message on the screen?
Concerning the installed driver, how could I check what type of card is installed in my notebook. I know, that there a two types of driver and card existing, toshiba and atheros.
But, if the installed driver causes no problems I guess the right driver is installed.
    Thx for any further Idea...
    C.

  • SP A10 with mini PCI card

    Help!
Have had a great deal of success with Toshiba however would like to use it in wireless mode. Have LAN mini PCI card switch yet can not find drivers on computer to enable it.
    Any suggestions
    Many thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve
I'd say that it is likely that You do not have a built in WireLess mini PCI card then. Normally all devices are configured 100% when the machine comes from factory.
And even if the driver is missing You should have a device that was not configured in the device manager and You do not say anything about such a device so I guess there is none.
It is quite common that models are prepared for wireless LAN (like your possibly is) with a WiFi-switch and built in antennas.
    best regards

  • Re: Upgrade Portege R100 WLAN to wap - new mini pci-card oder pcmia?

    Hi!
My old but loved R100 is not able to connect to my wlan-Router due to the fact,
that the build-in pci-card doesn't support wap. So i have to update my notebook
either with a new mini-pc card oder a pcmia-card. Which solution is better?
    Best regards,
    Rita

    Thanks for the reply.
Plesase help me read this carefully.
Actually, my computer is Portege R150 series. I bought it from a friend that just came back from china. All the functions are working except wlan and sd memory card. I formatted the operating system that came with it and installed another xp proffessional and downloaded all the drivers online. In the device manager, I didnt see the wlan card so I decided to open it and I checked it, the card wasnt installed on the board, it must have been removed by someone I dont know, tthe antenna cable wasnt there also. I then bought another intel wlan card. I downloaded the driver and i installed it. It was driven and the system was detecting it. but for the fact that there was no antenna, when I search for wifi, i do not see any newtwork. I then decided to buy the antenna cable. I bought it and there are two connectors on the wlan card. one is main and the other is aux. I connected it on main and I know that the other end of the same cable should be connected somewhere in the computer to the antenna. I cant see any connector on the motherboard that looks like where I can plug that cable. Thats my problem.
Please if I can get the installation manual, i'd very much appreciate. Maybe the manual might help me cos I dont want to buy a pcmcia cos iv already bought a minipci and my machine detects it, i just need to connect it to the antenna, and I dont know where the antenna port is.
    Thank you.

  • Recommend a mini PCI card

We are looking for a good mini pci (not pcie) card that supports ccx4 (Cisco Compatible Extensions version 4 [added to improve searchability]) and has good client software. Our environment requires use of eap-tls with machine certificates, so ccx4 is required to get cckm to work properly. Has anybody found a good solution for this?

I like the Dell/Broadcom 1370/1470 mini-PCI and they are CCX4. We have many Intel 2100/2200/2915 and constantly have roaming issues with them. In roaming tests using WPA2-AES and PEAP, the Broadcom was the most consistent followed closely by the Cisco CB21 PCMCIA. The Intel firmware tends to "stick" to the AP and thus impacts roaming even with the roaming aggressiveness tuned. Also in a driver only install with XP managing the PEAP connection, Broadcom and Cisco advertises CCX4, while the Intel requires the use of their client for CCX. Our wireless environment is 4404's running 3.2 and 4.0 with 1230 and 1242.

  • No boot with mini pcie card installed

I have a wind PC and I am trying to install a mini-pcie video decoder into it. I installed the card and the system will not boot. Take the card out, boots up fine. Thought maybe a bios update would do it. Flashed the bios, boots fine without the card, no boot with the card. Am I missing something?

There are plenty of things you can do with it, it can be an HTPC, a server, a mobile work platform.
After all, it is a Computer and there are plenty of people in the world who don't even have clean water or food at all.
I'm sure you can find a use for it, perhaps gifting it to someone who isn't as well off as you.
You'd be surprised how good it feels to make someone who is less fortunate  really happy.
I've given away many PCs, and I'm far from wealthy! When people I know buy new PCs I take their old ones off their hands, upgrade them, clean them up and give them away to people who can't afford one. I've given away a few on mine too. Just last week I donated my old laptop to a woman who is fighting cancer.
This machine was going to be a high def HTPC, that's not going to happen. Since I can't afford anything else I am a bit bummed out. Working three jobs to pay the bills, I just wanted to do something nice for me for a change. Once in a while I even grab an old PC from work and redo it for someone. Some of our wealthier customers just leave their old PCs with us when they pick up their new ones.

  • WLAN  |  wireless PCI card  |  Buffalo WLI2-PCI-G54S

I need a WLAN solution for my old and beloved smurf...
I have read about the Buffalo WLI2-PCI-G54S and a compatible Broadcom chipset...
This card is still available... but does it still have the broadcom chip these days? And is it really working-out-of-the-box?
    Anyone with experiences?
    TIA!

    Belkin Wireless G Gaming Adapter
May be this is an alternative, cause there is no driver issue, or am i wrong?
Any wireless Ethernet bridge device should work well. Examples include Belkin F5D7330 (please note that there are two variants, one with one and one with two antennas), D-Link DWL-G810 or DWL-G820, Linksys WET54G and Netgear WGE111. Also, Linksys has introduced an N model (WGA600N), which appears to be something similar. Normally, wireless Ethernet bridge devices do not require special drivers at all, and can thus be used under almost any operating system.
The various models (or versions of a model) may or may not support WPA security. A firmware update (which, typically, has to be carried out on a PC) may be sufficient. So, check the specifications (and the firmware download sites).

  • Which WAN Mini PCI card is suitable for Tecra A1?

I'd like to install optional wireless interface into my old Toshiba Tecra A1, but can't figure out what to buy...
Please, tell me, which card is compatible with my notebook.

This minPCI WLan card should be compatible with Tecra A1: PA3266u-3MPC
But you can order also every compatible device from authorized service provider in your country. They will deliver 100% a compatible WLan card.

  • Mini PCIe card for LTE?

Does anyone know if this is available thru any seller? My laptop is set up with a SIM card slot. Would be nice to have that option. I know VZW doesn't sell them directly, it took 3 online chats to get that answer, the 1st 2 people were clueless.

Use the Sonnet tech cards, they have a 10.6 compatibility matrix in the support section of their site. Yes, I paid more for the card when I got it, but I haven't had any headaches with it at all. I guess you get what you pay for.
This is good advice for both PCIe and Expresscard. I have discussed this with Sonnet and I think they regret the cheap/expensive strategy owing to the lack of support on SI drivers. They did lower the price on the Expresscard/34 Pro by 1/3 , or $100.
I still have their E2P (PCIe Si 2 port based card) and an Expresscard/34 (non-Pro) available cheap for anyone who thinks Si drivers are a good value.
The new 64 bit driver will be nice for the handful that run in a true 64 bit boot situation which won't be many and is not really necessary at all anyway. OF course if you have one 32 bit driver you need then that won't be a viable option.

  • How can I turn on the mini-PCI WiFi card on Satellite 1905-S301?

greetz! I have installed an optional mini-PCI wireless LAN card into my Toshiba Satellite 1905-s301 notebook and turned on its power switch. MS WXP Pro SP2 recognized the hardware and installed its drivers - there is no cross or question mark next to the Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter in the Device Manager. However the Wireless Network Connection Manager is telling me there is no wireless adapter present. When hitting Fn+F8 a window pops up saying There is no build-in wireless LAN.
What do I need to do to enable my optional wireless LAN mini-PCI card??? If possible, email your suggestions to my email, please!

    Hi
You have to enable the WLan switch at the notebook side!!!
Additional select the WLan card properties and check the Advanced tab.
There should be an option called Radio on/off. You have to set it to on.
