Replaced Airport Extreme router with Airport Time Capsule-now printer won't connect to network

I had no issues with connecting to the Airport Extreme.  I have recently replaced the Extreme with an Airport Time Capsule (the new one that is 802.11 ac).  All of my other products were able to detect the WIFI router and connected with no issue once I entered the password.  However, the HP 2710 finds the WiFi router, allows me to select it but when I enter my password and click OK, it comes back after several minutes saying that it can't connect to the network.  I checked the IP address and it's all 0.0.0.0 - it's won't establish an IP address either.

Hello @theros1093 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that you're having issues connecting to your router. I would like to help!
I'd recommend powering down your computer.  Once it's powered down,  go to the printer and select Setup , select Network, and select.  Restore Network Defaults.  Power down the printer.  Once it's all shut down, unplug the router power for 60 seconds, and plug it back in.  After it broadcasts, power on the printer and computer, and reconnect to the wireless network.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • I created a wireless network with my Time Capsule but would like to connect this network to a WiFi Hotspot for Internet Access

I have created a Wirelss Network at home with the Time Capsule and would like to connect this network to the Internet.
I can't use LAN Cable to connect to it anything becasuse I usually use the WiFi that runs through my building.
Can I connect the Time Capsule to the WiFi hotspot somehow so that all computers on my network have Internet access and if so, what do I need?
I need this done because the computers can only be connected to either the WiFi network or to my Time Capsule Network at any given time.
Or is there a way to be connected to both networks simultaneously?
I have two PC's and two Macs.
Thank you for any support and I apologise for my ignorance. I am not too good with networking.
I have tried the silliest of things like connecting a router to the TC only to then realise that the TC had an inbuilt router.
I tried connecting a USB WiFI adapter to the USB Port on the TC but it doesnt detect it that way apparently.
    Please help!

  • Replacing an Airport Express with a Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet.

Hello, I hope somebody can help.
I am trying to replace an Airport Express with a 2TB Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet, via an ADSL modem.
I have tried everything I can think of, powering down all devices, re-setting all devices, but nothing seems to solve the problem.
When I first tried to set up the Time Capsule, there was an option to replace the Airport Express using the same settings.
But there were repeated error messages of 'No DNS Servers' and 'PPPoE server couldn't be found'.
I also had messages that the password for PPPoE wasn't correct, but when I plug the Airport Express back in again, everything works fine.
    What could the problem be?

99% of issues with authentication are wrong password or wrong username.. eg it can be strange like the user name is missing the domain.. whereas the Airport Express works fine without it.
Ring your ISP and make doubly sure you have exactly the correct username and password.
If it still doesn't work, put the adsl modem back into router mode and try it again directly on the modem.. if it works ok on the modem but fails on the TC that is possible and can be caused by pppoe client using incorrect authentication type, CHAP or PAP which the TC does not allow you to select AFAIK.. some ISP do not give enough time to get the router to switch on auto to the correct authentication method.
In the end run the modem as router and bridge the TC. It will work just as well for most installations in bridge as the modem in bridge.

  • I have a current 2TB Time Capsule. I would like to add more ethernet ports for needed expansion. Will an Airport Extreme conflict with the Time Capsule for needed ethernet ports and will wireless from both units conflict?

I own a current 2TB Time Capsule and I need to expand my network system to include more ethernet (wired) ports. I am considering an Airport Extreme that would give me enough wired ports. Will the wireless capabilities of both units conflict with each other? I only need one wireless network. Thank you for any help.

While you could certainly add an AirPort Extreme to provide additional Ethernet ports, you could also save about $150 by purchasing an inexpensive switch, such as one of these:
    http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGS-1005G-5-Port-Gigabit-Desktop/dp/B003X7TRWE/
    http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Unmanaged-GREENnet-Auto-Negotiation-Auto-MDIX/dp/ B001QUA6R0/
Consumer grade Ethernet switches typically come in five and eight port configurations. Just be aware that a five port switch only conveys the ability to add three additional devices. An eight port switch conveys the ability to add six additional devices.
An 8 port switch provides twice the capacity of a 5 port switch for considerably less than twice the cost. The price difference between the two is often only $10 or so.
I just checked, the 8 port version of the Trendnet switch above costs exactly $4 more.
An AirPort Extreme is a very flexible full featured wireless router, and would provide three additional LAN ports for wired devices. If all you need is a few more ports though, it's overkill.

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Using an Airport Extreme router with PC.

I was told that I could use the Apple Airport Extreme router with my PC - but I can't seem to figure it out.  Any suggestions to get started?

Sorry to be so ignorant when it comes to this type of stuff.  I have a laptop (Dell) and a home computer (PC).  The Apple man told me all I had to do with my previous router was unplug it and plug in the Extreme and it would walk me through the steps.  It didn't.  I think I may have changed some settings on the PC.  Now I can't even get the previous router to work so I'm hardwired in on my laptop to even get here.
Do I need to hardwire in the PC, download the above utility, then try to hook up the Extreme router?  How do I make it "secure" or locked so no one else can use it other than ones with the key code?
Thanks so much for the above information.  Going to try it now.

after lion 10.7.3 update messed my mac had to restore from time machine now Outlook won't connect with microsoft exchange, any idea?

I've had a similar problem.  On my first boot up after installing 10.7.4,  Firefox would not open.  Crashed every time.  Safari was not affected.  I have no idea if it was related to the flash plugin, but I did install a the latest version of that a couple of weeks ago.
Here's what fixed it: a second boot up.

  • How to replace a Motorola NVG589 with a Time Capsule?

I have a few questions. Today ATT came and set up wireless for me. The only problem is they had to put my Wireless Gateway in a seperate room from my home theatre. I am experienceing a little bit of a slow down in my home theatre. Is there any way i completly get rid of my Motorola NVG589 and replace it with a Time Capsule? Once thats done if i set up an Airport Express in my home theatre can i connect the Airport to the Time Capsule wirelessly and then plug my apple tv and tv into the Airport Express' Ethernet port because my tv does not have built in wifi? and last question is can the Time Capsule function as just a wireless hard drive for my macbook and ipad without being set up for Time Machine? i appreciate any and all help. I understand computers but all this wireless/networking has me confused. Thanks again

You cannot replace the Motorola.. it is your modem plus other services.. but you could turn off wireless in it.. although even this is unnecessary as it is only single band. Set the channel in the motorola to say channel1 and forget about it.
Plug the TC in by ethernet and put it in bridge mode.
Set the TC to create a wireless network with whatever naming you want.
Once thats done if i set up an Airport Express in my home theatre can i connect the Airport to the Time Capsule wirelessly and then plug my apple tv and tv into the Airport Express' Ethernet port because my tv does not have built in wifi?
Yes, you can do that.. with the proviso the Express only has one ethernet port.. you can buy a small switch though .. 100mbit is fine as the express only uses fast ethernet.. but an extreme would be a better choice.
and last question is can the Time Capsule function as just a wireless hard drive for my macbook and ipad without being set up for Time Machine? i appreciate any and all help. I understand computers but all this wireless/networking has me confused. Thanks again
The answer here is yes.. but again heavy proviso.. it is slow,, it has no ability to backup itself and Time Machine cannot backup network drives. So if you do this take extra care to backup your files which will not be present on the computer or anywhere else.

  • Replacing D-Link router with Airport Extreme

    Dear Bob and Everybody,
Today, my brother purchased an Airport Extreme and I would like to replace our D-Link router in my home network with it. Could you kindly advise what I should do to achieve that.
    Old Network:
    Devices------>Router------>Modem------>Internet
    New network (Ideally):
    Devices----->Extreme------>Modem------>Internet
My brother did the configuration and I do not uderstand why he thinks that the D-Link router should be on when he's already configured the Extreme into the network.
    Current Network:
    Devices------->Extreme------->D-Link Router------->Modem------>Internet
Your assistance will be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Andrew

    Hi Bob & Edex67,
    OK noted.
I think we will keep the old network but use the Extreme to pickup the signal from the router and extend the distribution coverage because some parts of our home have very weak signal. So, is the following achievable with an Extreme?
    Devices----------->Router------->Modem------->Internet
         |                      |
         |                      |
         |-->Extreme---->|
              (wirelessly)
Thank you Guys for your input and advice.

  • How do you replace a Virgin wireless router with a time capsule?

    Hi Folks
i have just bought a brand new 1tb time capsule yesterday and im trying to connect it too my virgin modem and replace the virgin wireless router i already have.....i thought it would be an easy setup of just plugging in the ethernet cable into the time capsule..but this has not worked??..can this be done?? i have restarted all devices too!...i am now clueless!
the the time capsule has backed up my hard drive (mac book pro) with no problems!
    kind regards
    kathdol

Are you talking about a separate modem and Virgin router, rather than their wretched 'Superhub' (modem and router combined) - the latter is a whole different can of worms.
Assuming the former, you should be able to remove the Virgin router and plug your Time Capsule into the modem: you will need to power down the modem and leave it for a few minutes (to forget the MAC address of the Virgin router), then plug in the TC and power up the modem. Make sure that the TC is set to 'Share a public IP number', not 'Distribute a range of IP numbers' or 'Bridge mode'. (If the interface is the same as the Airport Express it's 'Manual Setup'>'Internet' (in the toolbar)>Internet settings.

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD time capsule issues

I'm going to try to provide as much information for you so that you can recommend a fix to the problem.
    1. I've just become an Apple owner and also purchased Airport Extreme (AE) a Belkin USB (4 port) hub and a Seagate GoFLex, 1.8T external HDD.
    2. My system:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B04
    SMC Version (system): 1.69f1
    Serial Number (system): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Hardware UUID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
    3. Attached to the HUB is HP 6280 printer and the Seagate 1.8T GoFlex external HDD.
    4. I did configure the AE and my internet connect is working spot on.
    5. The AE recognizes the HP6280 printer and it works fine.
    Here's where the problem starts:
When I open Time Machine to configure Time Capsule I cannot get the AE to add thGoFlex external HDD drive to the WiFi.
Do I have reset the AE to default setting and start all over? Is there another way to add the GoFlex to the AE so it recognizes it; then, I can run the set up program for the time machine and have wireless capability.

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up with Time Machine software via an Airport Extreme is "iffy" and +*not supported by Apple.+* See [Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Airport.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
By the way, a +Time Capsule+ is a wireless router, similar to an Airport Extreme, but a bit larger and with a hard drive built-in, and Time Machine backups to it are supported. In fact, that's the main thing the Time Capsule was designed for. See: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC344LL/A/Time-Capsule-2TB?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg&mc o=MTMzNzU2MjI

  • Can I use a second generation Airport Extreme to extend my Time Capsule network?

I have a second generation Airport Extreme (circa 2009?) and am thinking of buying a Time Capsule. Can I use the Extreme to extend my network?

Yes. Note; however, you won't be able to extend the 802.11ac mode of the new Time Capsule. Also be aware that the 2nd generation Extreme did not provide for simultaneous dual-band operation. That would mean that you will only be able to extend either the 2.4 or 5 GHz band, not both at the same time.
... so it can work in a limited fashion.

  • Is it possible to use an Airport Extreme router with AT&T 2Wire modem/router?

My AT&T 2Wire modem/router does not have great range, speed, or compatibility with my Macbook and iMac.  I bought an Apple Airport Extreme to try to remedy my problem, however, I did not realize it was purely a router.  Is it possible to use the 2Wire modem/router as just a pure modem and connect it to the Airport Extreme?  Would it be more beneficial to purchase a new modem that does not have wireless functionality?  I have looked at previous posts but couldn't find any definite answers.  Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!  Thanks!

The easiest route to take here would be to simply turn off the wireless function on the 2-Wire modem/router and then configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode to provide a dual band wireless network.
If the 2-Wire performance shortcomings are the result of other wireless interference issues at your location, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme may not perform any better, wireless wise.  It's not possible to know things like this in advance....more of a case of you won't know until you try.
In theory, it might be possible to configure the 2-Wire product as a simple modem...but I doubt that AT&T would be willing to tell you how to do this or provide support in the event of problems.
It's getting to be hard to find a simple DSL modem these days, and even if you do, it will have to be re-configured as a Bridge to work correctly with the AirPort Extreme, so that complicates things as well.

  • Can I use my Airport Extreme router with Mountain Lion?

I purchase my Airport Extreme about 2-3 years ago. My Internet service- Verizon, provides the modem. When I inserted the installation disc that came with the router I got an error message on my laptop saying that the systems were incompatible with one another.
I looked ror an airport update to resolve this but found nothing.
    Can anyone offer some advice?
Not being much of a Techie, I'm a bit afraid of just charging in and taking my chances.
    Thanks for the help.

Mountain Lion has already installed the latest version of AirPort Utility for you.
Look in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility.
You can trash the old installation CD as it no longer useable.

  • Airport Extreme extended with Airport Express - extremely slow

I know this is not new. I have seen many discussions on this subject but no real answer.
My setup: ADSL modem connected to a AEBS (square, N compatible). Yesterday I got an older Airport Express (draft N) and extended the WiFi netowork.
I understand that this extension will reduce the speed but I didnt expect it to be that slow:
    Download speeds:
    - cable connection to the AEBS: >10 Mb/s
    - wireless connection near the AEBS: 9.5 Mb/s
    - wireless connection near the Airport Express: 0.2 Mb/s !!!
In the Airport Utility the Airport Express connection shows as GOOD.
Is it normal? Should I try to change configuration, channels, anything to improve this?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tonden

From my experience of setting up the Airport WiFi for family members and friends, I have learnt the following :-
    1. Airport Express is not as good as Airport Extreme, for being as extender, the difference can be quite a lot.
    2. There is always a dead cornor (bad reception) in a house
    3. Even moving the Airport Extreme / AE a few inches, the performance can be improved quite significant
    4. If possible, always choose 5G 802.11n than 2.4G, unless there are many thick walls.
My suggestion will be as follows :
    1. Moving out the AEBS out of a closet, is a good idea
    2. Always try to locate the AEBS in the centre of a area, instead of the two sides
    3. Try to test the AEBS without an extender, and find the best location area (don't place on the floor, neither above 6 feet height)
    4. After finding a best location, set the extender closer to the AEBS, and then moving apart from it (check the performance after every move), it is better that both devices can face each other.
    5. I can't tell you the reason, and some people may not agree with me, the new 2013 Airport Exteme performance is better and may be is a good idea to replace your Airport Express, and use it to connect with your router, and old AEBS as an extender
    6. Some Powerlinks (in case you can't use a wired ethernet connection between the two devices) work and some don't work with Apple Airport products, therefore, if possible, have an option to return them to the shop if they do not match
    Good luck
