Replaced hard drive on V570 and now won't boot

I was getting warnings that my hard drive on my V570 needed to be replaced. I replaced it today and now can't boot. Keep seeing a message about "media test failure check cable." I tried going into BIOS and putting the hard drive at  the top of the boot list but this did not help. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  • Replaced Hard Drive 27" iMac (EMC 2390) won't boot

I have a 2nyear old 27" iMac i5 2.80 Mhz and the hard drive burned out. The OSX partition could not be repaired but the Boot Camp partition worked fine.
It had a 1TB Seagate Barracuda 2700 rpm.  I picked up a 3TB Barracuda from Best Buy and dropped it in.
I tried to boot the machine using my snow leopard disk.  The computer doesn't even see the new drive and it hangs at the Apple screen.
I dropped my old drive back in to see if I had harmed the machine.  It booted fine to my old boot camp partition.  However, it still hangs at the Apple screen with either hard drive installed.
I'm at a total loss as to what to do.

Well, it does say... Up to 6 Gbps
Hmm, & here's one that indicates ot even works down to 1.5 Gb/s of the G5s...

So maybe that's not the problem!?

You can reinstall MS using your install disk(s) and the original registration key(s).

  • My IPhone used to be synced to my computer.  A new hard drive was installed and now the phone says it's syncing, then a message appears saying the next time my computer is available is will sync.  I've followed the instructions and no success.

My hard drive burned up and had to be replaced.  When I tried to sync my IPhone after my computer repair, the phone says it's syncing and the icons spin, but nothing happens.  In a few seconds a message appears saying it will sync the next time my computer is available.  I have gone through the instructions and procedures for syncing four times and can not get the thing to sync.  Apparently the phone hasn't synced in a long time.  What do I do to sync my phone again?

    jrmetzger,
iOS runs on iPads and iPhones; OS X runs on Macs.
Given your situation, I’d highly recommended that you purchase a SATA-to-USB adapter, so that you can test both your old disk and your new disk externally, since it might be that the problem is due to a faulty internal SATA cable rather than due to faulty disks.

  • New T430 hard drive is bad and Lenovo won't supply replacement preloaded software

Placed order for Lenovo T430 with preloaded Microsoft Office 2010, Adobe Elements, and Adobe Lightroom on 1/13/13.  I received the computer in January and have had ongoing problems with it since that time, requiring multiple contacts with tech support.  Overall, I could use the product (minus the thinkpad laster bluetooth mouse I also purchased from Lenovo that would not stay connected to the computer) up until this last week, when it would not start without going into the boot menu, but could not get out of the boot menu.
I called tech support, who thought it was the operating system and sent me recovery discs to reinstall the OS.  I had help from a computer servicing company who checked my computer and found the hard drive is bad.  They have called Lenovo, who are sending the hard drive out to be replaced.  However, Lenovo is refusing to replace the preloaded (by Lenovo) software I purchased from them.
    Case # A05LT3Q
Tech support says that my account where I registered the product would be able to provide the software.  I called customer service about that and spoke with Hason about the problem.  He stated that he would have to start a customer advocate case for me.  He says he does not yet have a case # for me, but will call me before he leaves at 7pm tonight.  I will post that case # when and if I receive it from him.
Am more than frustrated with this case and the problems I am having.

If I remember correctly, the recovery discs should have everything that came with the system. I could be wrong though.

  • Help!! Managed to erase a new second hard drive I added and now the system won't boot up

I can't believe it!! Having un-successfully tried to add a 2nd 2Tb HD, which wouldn't identify itself properly or erase. I took a HD out of one of my PCs and tried again.  This time the hard drive was identified correctly and using disk utility I erased it and formatted it successfully.  I then shut down, restarted and all I got was an initial white screen and then a black one with a flashing cursor.  What have I done wrong...? How can i get the OS to start properly?

Hold down the Alt/Option key while you restart.
This invokes the All-in-ROM Startup Manager, which very slowly inspects each drive and draws an Icon for each potentially-bootable Volume.
If it finds one, select it and click proceed arrow.
If not you will need to boot fron your Installer/Utilities DVD and use Disk Utility from there to look around.
¿Is there a possibility a new drive is messing up the SATA Bus and precluding booting?

  • Replaced Hard Drive in MacBook Pro - now TC wants to back up whole drive

I replaced the 120 Gig hard drive in my MacBook Pro with a 320 Gig drive and cloned the old drive back to the new one. Time Machine now wants to treat this as a different drive from the one I have backed up on my Time Capsule. How do I convince TM to backup the new drive incrementally to the old image on the TC rather than creating a whole new back up?

The cloning software you used probably does not copy the journaling entries. Since TM relies on the event-driven journaling entries, it has no choice but to start a new full backup all over again.

  • I named my external hard drive "Time Machine", and now it no longer appears on my desktop.

I attached an external hard drive to my iMac, renamed it "Time Machine", and then set it up as the backup drive for Time Machine.  Now the drive no longer shows up on my desktop, tho the Time Machine backup appears to be working. Is it not supposed to show up on the desk?

    Hello:
When you designate an external drive as the one to use for Time Machine backups, that volume will be named "Time Machine" and a blue Time Machine icon will appear on your desktop.  In my own case, I have a two partition external disk - one for Time Machine, and one for making bootable clones.
I never name my external HDs - only the volume(s) contained on them.  If that is what you did, get rid of (or change) the drive name.

  • Ipod mini hard drive goes crunch and now get Sad face with IPOD

I've notice that after I installed new ITUNES and Updater software, my mini has the following problems:
    1. Click to the song and it just sits there and then it might skip over a the next song or songs before playing, like it is frozen
    2. I hear the hard drive - spinning and hear this crunching sound -
    3. Now I get the sad face with the ipod icon
So would restoring my ipod help or should I take it and get it fixed, and how much would that cost
    Su

    Su,
Is this noise you describe really a crunching noise - like a can being crushed, or more of a rhythmic or repeating clicking noise? It is normal for a drive to amke clicking sounds as it reads and writes to the drive. When this noise becomes rhythmic and repetitive, it can be a problem. If it is indeed a click-click-click type of noise or pattern, it could be that the drive is stuck. This can sometimes be corrected by tapping the iPod's left or right side against your palm firmly. I have revived several iPod mini's this way, and have not had it produce any ill effects. However, do note that you try this at your own risk and only if you are comfortable with the possibility or doing more damage. However, my opinion is that A) The iPod doesn't work right now, so there isn't much to lose, and B) you could save on a costly repair if it DOES work.

  • HP simplesave ca94304 keep data on hard drive from PC and now use with Mac computer

Hi, I've recently purchased a new Apple Macbook Air and I have this HP simplesave ca94304 1 TB Ext Hard drive that I would like to be able to use for backing up my new MacbookAir. I have had this hard drive for a few years and have the backups from my PC formated laptop on it already. How can I keep this information on the hard drive and still back up the macbook Air?

    Agree with what Dragon-fur said.
    I will add...
There are numerous queries on here where consumers report these drives not being recognized suddenly. Their end of life seams to be coming to pass now.
Once that happens, you cannot retrieve the data because SimpleSave drives are not like a traditional external drive.
Also, if you only have your data backed up on one drive (one backup), you dont have a backup. WHEN that drive fails, your data is gone.  A good rule of thumb is to have 3 backups using a combination of different ways to do so.
    Good luck.

  • Replacing Hard Drive, Logic Board and Ram due to failure on my iMac

My current mac is crashing and burning, I will be replacing the above components. I trying to backup my system on time machine but I get a message that reads, that Backup FAILED. I am dragging stuff over to my free agent E hard Drive. But, any other suggestions on what I should drag to help me recover stuff when I do get my iMac back? Or, can the system be restored as the way it was before, without time capsule or backup from somewhere else. I have also tried to backup to my other external hard drive, and same issue backup failed. To fix problems I was told to erase and reinstall my system, and then used time machine to bring back my original computer and then was told to erase my time machine to start to a new backup my computer. Hence the the problem. I use my iMac for work, not just to twitter or face book etc. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I had to wipe out my hard drive on Monday and now I am afraid I have lost all my music...

Help! On monday I had to wipe my hard drive out and reset it do to constant error messages. While on tech support I backed everything up as best I could but now I think my music is gone...I am not sure how to even start over or if my library will be there when I reinstall itunes. Any advice~thanks so much...it has been an interesting week!

Open iTunes first, then click on file in the top left corner, then click on Transfer Purchases from iPod.
That will transfer apps, music, TV shows ect.. You can also redownload your items from the iTunes store (just the TV shows, Movies and music you bought there). To do this go to iTunes store, then click on Purchesed and all your items will be there.

  • Replaced hard drive need ethernet and network controller

    Hello
I replaced the hard drive on my satellite L655.  I installed windows and used my existing key code.  The laptop is telling me I have no ethernet and network controller.  I have tried to find the correct drivers. Since I am starting the computer from scratch do I need to install other drivers as well?  Please help.
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm so sorry, Heidi. I misread your first message. I thought you had restored the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
That's the best thing to do. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
If you failed to burn recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 71 of the User's Guide.

  • External Hard Drive Ejecting itself and now not being recognised

I've been using a Western Digital hard drive for the past 4 months and it's been great. However recently it has decided to randomly eject itself. This was getting irritating but could live with it.
However now it isn't even being recognised by Finder even though it shows up in Disk Utility. I'm puzzled and worried - that hard drive has all my music and photos on but i can't access it
I'd be very grateful for any ideas on how to go about getting it back!?
    Thank you!
    Chloe

I have the same problem. The Western Digital hard drive doesn't show up on my desktop when I plug it in, although it shows up on disk utility. I would also appreciate any advice on getting my computer to recognize it.

  • Time capsule Hard drive was disconnected and now cannot retreive critical information...?

The hard drive is not even recognised ..

    Hi,
"The hard drive is not even recognised"?
I am presuming from this statement that it is not showing up in the Finder application?
Is your Mac connecting to it via Wifi?
What happens if you try and enter Time machine? or Try to back up to it?
If you cannot do either, open Airport Utility, click on the Time Capsule, choose "edit", click the disks tab, un-tick "enable file sharing", then click update. Next re-tick "enable file sharing" and click update.
I'm afraid that the reset button on the device is purely for resetting the network settings on it and has no effect whatsoever on it's internal hard drive.
    I hope this helps
