Replaced HD with one small mishap

I just replaced my original 80GB 4500 hard drive with a new Seagate 160GB 5400. I followed the iFixit instructions to the letter, and everything seems great. (I'm writing this post on the computer with the new hd.)
The only problem was when I was loosening the keyboard ribbon clamp. One of the tiny, plastic side arms that holds the black locking bar broke off right on the end. I was still able to achieve a good, snug fit of the keyboard ribbon back into the connector, as one side of the clamp locks fine... However, the other side, though the black locking bar does fit in fairly securely, is not able to lock in completely.
As I said, it's working fine so far. I guess my concern is... Will it loosen itself over time? Should I be concerned enough to have it repaired? And what exactly would happen if the keyboard ribbon did become partially disconnected?

Hello - Just for future reference if you ever need to replace the harddrive again. When I did mine using those excellent IFIXIT directions, I tried the removal of those tiny plastic clips holding the keyboard strap, and immediately saw pitfalls ahead. Avoiding the step entirely, I propped the keyboard up against the display, replaced the harddrive, reset the keyboard, and was done. Much easier and 'safer'than including that one step.

ITunes keeps asking if I want to replace app with one I'm moving

Every time I open iTunes (or do anything with my apps) it keeps telling me a newer version of an app already exists in my library and am I sure I want to replace it with the one I'm moving. Only, I don't think I'm moving any apps, and no matter what I choose it keeps asking every time I open iTunes, and goes through at least half my apps every time.
I've tried updating the apps, updating iTunes, but nothing seems to work.

Ok I had this problem earlier due to me attempting to move my iTunes library from one computer to a newer one. If that is what you did before receiving the message then you must go into the iTunes folder on your computer, it should be under music in your computer. After that go to iTunes media and find the Mobile applications folder it should be empty, Open another folder and go to Tunes media then look for the folder titled "Automatically add to Tunes" find the mobile applications folder in their ( Should have a iTunes media folder within that folder and the mobile applications is located in their) The apps in this folder are being continuously re added to your media so simply copy all of the apps here and move it to the first mobile applications folder.
However if you switching to a new computer is not the case then you could always also delete all the apps within the original mobile applications folder like how it is stated in this discussion.
A newer version of the app '...' already exists...

Replacing Images with ones the same size

When you swap images, the incoming image is 'squeezed' to fit
within the
outgoing image's dimensions. There are three ways to
workaround this -
1. Do not use a dimension in the outgoing image's code, e.g.,
<img src="whatever.jpg>
This will allow the incoming image to be displayed at its
native size. But,
the downside is that your page will 'jiggle' to adapte to
that new size if
it's significantly different. This may, or may not, be a
consideration for
your page/needs.
2. Make both images the same size by adding canvas to the
smaller
dimensions so that the dimensions in both height and width
are the same.
This is usually the best way to handle such issues.
3. Don't use image swaps at all - use hidden page elements,
and display
them as needed, perhaps with the Show/Hide Element behavior.

My dad has an imac G5 from 2005, and I'm wondering if we can bring it to the Apple store and replace it with one of the newer models. How much would the G5 be worth and how much money would we have to put on top of it to buy the newer model?

How much is the G5 worth? The one from 2005.

The Apple Store will offer to recycle it for free, you are better off selling it on ebay or elsewhere, I have seen decent looking ones go from $80-$250 here in Australia.

Newbie with one small question

im brand new to cisco, and ive just purchased a catalyst 1900 to start learning on.
im trying to get some switching started, and i cant seem to get things working.
what i did was create an ip address for the switch, which is the same ip address for interface 0/1. interface 0/1 goes to the gateway router and then out to the internet(so that we are clear, switch ip = interface 1 ip). the gateway has a static ip, and i have 5 allocatable statics(sticky ip) after that. so the switch has its own static ip(i made sure to set the ip default-gateway on the cisco switch).
i then set interface 2 ip to a different ip address and then connected that to a linux system with that static ip.
from the linux box, i can successfully ping the switch, the gateway, and anything else with an ip address. but i cant seem to get internet access on this linux box. i can successfully ping, but when i fire up the browser, i get nothing.
any ideas. i really appreciate it. i know theres something that im missing. ive got my book in front of me and ive followed all of the steps, but this stuff is all written for simulations, so its a little different.

i have the cable going from the gateway switch into the first port on the switch. theres another ethernet cable going from port 2 to the linux box.
into the switch:
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.236 255.255.255.248
ip default-gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.238
interface ethernet 0/1
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.236
exit
interface ethernet 0/1
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.237
then into the linux box,
ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.237 netmask 255.255.255.248 broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.255
from the linux box, i can successfully ping the switch and another computer that has been assigned a static ip that is connected into the gateway switch, not the cisco switch. i can successfully ping the linux box from that computer, so i can successfully send a ping from a windows computer to the gateway switch, to the cisco switch, and then to the linux box.
i cannot ping anything beyond the gateway switch.
any help would be great. i know this has to be a simple problem, sorry.

In the old imovie you can separate out the audio track, mute it, delete, replace it with one you prefer -- and easily make it line-up with the video, for example of a concert performance. Anyone know how to (even if by work-around) do the same with iMovie 11??

Do the following:
Download the app My Contacts Backup to your phone. Us the app to back up the contacts on your phone as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.
Delete your iCloud contacts by going to iCloud.com from your computer, log into your iCloud account and open Contacts, click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom left and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard. This will delete the contacts from your iPad as well.
Open the My Contacts Backup email on your iPad and tap the attachment to import the contacts from your phone to your iPad, and to iCloud. Go to icloud.com and confirm that they appear there as well.

I think I had it on the iCloud, I just changed computers and had part of my old computer backed up, where are the default iTunes info saved like the pictures and I know my contacts were backed up cuz I kept getting updated stuff that I wasn't sure about, but it was contacts where some belonged to my wife's contacts....but anyway, if the cloud backed up contacts, it should have grabbed pictures too? Like I asked before, if they were backed up to the computer, is there a default iTunes folder they are saved to? I had a crap load of pictures on there that I usually could really access if I was connected to wi-fi. I turned off my data stuff as I only have 4GB and between me and my 2 kids, we seemed to use up a lot of it. My son would play music from Pandora during work, and use up all our data til I limited him to only 3GB, my daughter and I barely used 1GB. Anyway, thanks to everybody that is answering. I thought I might have done good finding the dang sim card, but pointless I guess.

I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives.

You can try this:
1. Go to the iTunes Store or App Store
2. Scroll down, there you will see Apple ID: "your email" (below Redeem and Send Gift)
3. Tap on that button
4. Tap on Sign Out
Now you should be able to use another Apple ID.

My Macbook Pro was stolen, and I have replaced it with a Macbook Air. New hard drive is too small for a Time Machine restore. How do I restore my more-expensive apps (ie iWorks) on my new Macbook without repurchasing them?

My Macbook Pro was recently stolen, and I have replaced it with a Macbook Air. I attempted to simply do a restore from the Macbook Pro's Time Machine backup, but since the new Macbook Air's hard drive is significantly smaller, a Time Machine restore was not possible. I even tried to choose only settings or only my User Profile (option) when restoring, but the backup was still too large to do a restore onto the new machine. How do I restore my more-expensive apps (ie iWorks) onto my new Macbook without repurchasing them? Also, I reaad somewhere that if you went to the Mac App Store and attempted to repurchase the app and clicked BUY, it would simply alert you that you have already purchased the app (and trigger a re-download)... NOT THE CASE... So I just dropped another $19.99 for a second copy of Pages... Not my intention....

you should get a usb backup drive as well. time machine has limited use in my eyes. it saves things. but older things can be errased ad space drops without telling you
nothing beats data redundancy. 2 saves is. 1. and 1 is none
im personally not fond of time machne though i use it only for a recovery parameter for a mac
id never ever myself consider time machine a genuine data backup tool. though most do consider it as such
drive clones such as superduper and carbon copy cloner can clone your entire drive for emergency recovery. and you can boot from them as well o. another mac

Tthe brute force method: start with Settings > iCloud and turn off Find My (you will need the password), then change the iCloud ID, then go to the apps such as Messages, FaceTime, etc, and delete the Apple ID and enter the new one.

Yes, you have to update the iPod in order to retore from backup. The iOS on the "new" has to be aequal to r greater than on the iPod from which the backup was made. The iOS downloads are unique to an iDevice and model (the one for a 3G iPod will not work for a 4G iPod).
