  • Replacing Motherboard on HP Desktop PC

Considering there are too many issues with the Pegatron IPISB-CU (Carmel2) motherboard on a HP PC that is 4 years old such as my blu-ray drive and dvd drive not working both at once, video card fan died and not going to spend countless of hours trying to find the same replacement for a video card that won't play new games. Also newer cards have new UEFI bios that aren't compatible with the Pegatron board I have and most companies won't do custom BIOS to make the card work with the motherboard. I have thought about replacing the motherboard and try to push it another 2 years. However I have a few questions about this process.
First of all, WILL the Intel Intel Core i5 2400 currently on the HP PC will work with another different board or is it LOCKED to the current motherboard configuration and won't work with any motherboard replacement? How about the memory sticks? I know Intel makes their products to be compatible with their own products and upgrading/replacing with other non approved HP parts won't work with their products.
How will my Windows 7 installation will be affected by the motherboar replacement? Will I have to do custom/clean install of Windows 7 or will I still be able to use the Recovery Suite in the PC for re-installing Windows 7?
I do not plan to upgrade the PSU on the PC because I am shopping for a low power video card (can't afford it.) And I also know that if I upgrade the motherboard I know that I will loose the Wireless/Bluetooth card and the card reader because it has a secondary power intake that I haven't see in any other motherboard configuration.
Or just scrap the system and start from scratch. I just can't believe my luck 900$ down the drain in less than 4 years.

First, replacing the motherboard that will accept the components is not that difficult, just need to do some searching.  The Windows install will not like the new motherboard, so expect to purchase a new retail copy of your choice.
If you do not plan on a high power video card, then possibly the present PSU will be OK.
I suspect the new motherboard that will accept the present CPU will also accept the memory, as they are usually of the same technology.
The BluRay drive and the DVD, if working, will probably transfer also.  You will/could probably still use the same case and the card reader by keeping the case.  Unkown about the bluetooth card, but typically they use a commonly found PCI slot

  • How do i replace my hard drive? dv4

I have a Pavilion DV4 Entertainment Laptop.  I replaced the hard drive and now it is acting like the drive isn't installed.  When I check BIOS, it says no HDD exists.  Is there something I am missing?  I made sure the drive is seated, it has 3 screws to ensure that.  And even when I plug the old drive in, I get the same message.  There is no HP support for this issue, well none that I don't have to pay for.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Check the connection first. Updating BIOS may help. Please also check this:

  • Replacing display on HP Pavilion dv4 -2049wm?

My laptop had an engine blowout and crashed from about 4-1/2 feet trying to fly across the room and cracked the display leaving only about 25% viewable.  I have found the replacement screen online, but I cannot find any instructions on how this is done.  Does anyone have experience with or have knowledge of a link that can show/explain to me how to replace the screen?   Many thanks....

This video explains it pretty well:
    Youtube, of course
I have done this many times and it is actually one of the easier laptop repair items on most models. You may also want to have the manual:
    Manual
The dv4 is slightly more difficult than most because you have to remove the whole display assembly at the place where the hinges connect to the main body of the laptop in order to get at the screen itself. So the video is not 100% accurate for you. It shows the easier method of just removing the front plastic cover, which applies to most types of laptops but not the dv4, but much of the video is useful.

  • Dv9000 Adapter plug glows but laptop won't turn on - after I replaced motherboard

So I tried installing a replacement motherboard myself on my dv9700. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Anyhoo, I got the old one out after much stress and got the new one hooked up to the power and connected all the cables and tried to get a BIOS boot. The lights, fan, and optical drive all came on for a second, then shut off, then came back on but no BIOS, so I manually shut it off after a half minute or so. Then I thought getting the OS drive connected might do the trick. No such luck - in fact now the computer won't power. I tried putting the old motherboard back - same luck. My IT friend came over and noted (and I know this sounds idiotic on my part) that I hadn't swapped the CPU and the heat sink onto the new motherboard. We moved them onto the new motherboard but still no joy. The adapter glows at the connection but obviously the power is not flowing to the rest of the laptop. I know I'm a bit hardheaded to try to attempt this myself but what's done is done. I'm wondering if any of you kind non-flaming souls could tell me what the problem might be. My IT buddy thinks that there might be a short somewhere but that he downplayed my worst fears that I fried the new motherboard since the computer was only on for seconds at a time.
Please help if you can with any ideas of what the cause might be - I'm probably taking it to another repair shop in a day or two but I'd like to be armed with some ideas. Thanks!

No flames but it is not looking good. I have done dv6000 and dv9000 motherboards and I rank them as about the hardest laptop repairs I have done. Not for the newbie. Trying to power on a board with no CPU and fan in place should not have fried it in and of itself but the fact that you did that makes me question the entire technique you used. One screw in the wrong place or one touch at the wrong time CAN fry it.

  • I need a replacement key for left shift, DV4 2106tx.

  • Suspect faulty hardware in HP DV4-1548dx, what does it take to convince HP?

I purchased this laptop for my elderly mother.  She is not tech savvy enough to interact with HP on her own to resolve issues.  I am very tech savvy and design computer systems for a living.
She told me that the laptop has occasionally not been starting up properly when she turns it on.  I couldn't get much more details beyond a blank screen when trying to power on.
I was at her house over the weekend (unfortunately I live many hours away).  Computer started just fine and operated normally.  But the Capslock and Scrolllock LEDs were blinking in sync with a frequency of about 1s.  I shutdown computer, removed battery and AC cord, and held down power button for 15 seconds.  Then I booted again.  Blinking LEDs were gone and computer seemed to operate just fine.  However I suspect problems will return given that blinking caps/scroll LEDs are an error syndrome.
The blinking LEDs signals a low-level error.  Is this error logged anywhere?
If this problem is intermittent and not logged, how will I convince HP that there is a problem and that the machine needs repair?

Sorry, but when the caps and scroll lock blink, that is an error code probably triggered by the BIOS.
    Elderly mistake my ass.

  • Replacing DV4 motherboard

I want to replace a dead motherboard from DV4.
Mine is #486723-001.  Why couldn't I replace ith with other number such as #576945-001.  Aren't they all the same physical size?  I mean, I have replaced DV6000 with different board.  You might have to reinstall new drivers or missing optional ports but it works.  Is there a reason why they want us to replace with it's original parts #?
Why asked? Mine cost $150, alternate $99 to replaced.
    Pavilion DV6768SE HDMI Vista 32bit AMD 2.0 X2 3Gb 5300DDR2 320Gb
    HP Slim s3712f 2.4ghz 3gb 500gb

Different chipsets different drivers, it's easy to keep all that static for the repair path of least resistance.

Sorry, while searching for other threads about this problem I have seen others report no x either.Odd. A solution that seemed to work for another poster was turning on his wireless adapter before starting the recovery.

  • I have the HP G72-259WM Notebook PC , Product Number: wq668ua which has worked out great for me.

I have the HP G72-259WM Notebook PC , Product Number:  wq668ua running WIndows 7 (64bit)  With 4GB of RAM and 1695MB video Ram. I just purchased a game (Star Wars: The Old Republic) and my laptop meets all the requirement stated on game accept one that I did not understand see until after the purchase. The Graphic card needs to run Shader 3.0 or greater. My Laptop is now out of warrenty and would like to upgrade my hardware. Can I either purchase a motherboard or graphics card in order to run this game instead of buying a whole new system? Note: the game states that there are a few different cards that work with this game and wonder if there is something equal to, or a little better that match there capibility that I can use? They are the ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4850, or NVIDA GeForceGTX 260 /512MB graphic cards.
I would like to use the all the same hardware with a new motherboard... unless the graphic card is seperate and if so can you tell me what I need to get and where? Thanks

  • Pavillion DV4 mother board replacement

My Pavillion dv4 VM298UA won't charge.  I tried a new battery, charger and DC jack but no luck.  After searching the forums it looks like I need to replace my mother board.  Does anyone have answers to the following questions?
    1. What causes a mother board to go bad like this?
    2.  If I replace it is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?
    3.  I have seen new and refurbished boards avaliable with the refurbished ones being about half the cost of new.  Is it ok to use a refurbished one?  The benefit is lower cost, but what is the risk?
    4.  Is there anything else that needs to be replaced at the same time?  ie fan, heat sink, etc
    5.  The boards I have seen do not come with a processor.  Is it a big deal to take the processor off my existing board and transfer it to the new board?  Any special tools or techniques needed?
    6. How likely is it that the mother board is the problem and not something else?  Is there any way to look at the mother board and tell?  Any tests that could be done?
    7.  Anything else I should be aware of before I invest any more $ into this thing?
Thinking about this another way, with the hard drive from this computer fit into any other computer?  I really would like to reserect the computer, but wjhat I really need to do is to get some stuff off the hard drive.  Is there another compure I could get that I could plug this HD into?
Are there any post that address these issues that I just haven't found yet?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Check with HP of Brazil or if they have eBay in Brazil and search for your board number to see if there is someone selling a matching board.

  • Small Plastic Pieces Replacement Help Please! [Dv4-2165dx] Picture Included

Hello. In 2010 I bought a HP Dv4-2165dx. I really love this computer and would like to repair it.
As you can see in this picture the plastic part that covers these usb hubs and the ac power inlet was broken off.
I think it comes in a couple pieces. The first part, the long plastic cover, and under this cover there is a small round plastic part too, which you can see in my picture is quite mangled. It is too destroyed to use now.....
Where can I find a replacement piece for this? I can't tell if there are any numbers on it to identify the piece so it has been impossible to find.
Where could I find this small piece? How much do they run in cost? And are the relativly easy to find?
    Thanks so much!

    Hi,
Sorry I can't see the image. Please use the first manual of the following link to work out part #:

Please note: Nowadays they don't sell small pieces, they sell the whole part(s). You may have to buy more than you need. After getting part #, you can eBay OR you can buy from the following site:
