Replaced my hard drive and now the problems begin

I replaced my 60GB hard drive with a Seagate 160 GB 5400rmp PATA drive following the instructions on iFixit. I reloaded 10.4 from my disk, and when prompted to connect another Mac on to my Mac to transfer data, I connected my LaCie external instead, which had a Carbon Copy Clone of my computer on it.
NOW;
1) if I leave the computer alone for 5 or so minutes, the display flashes on and off until I touch another key or the hard drive goes to sleep.
2) Photo shop quits, and every time I try to restart it, quits again
3) Quick time quits when I try go into Preferences and update.
4) If I run a movie or stream video on Firefox or Safari, they quit.
I am upgrading to 10.4.11 in the hope that this fixes the problems, but if it doesn't..............
Is there a fix for any of these?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and insight.
Jamie

eww;
Thanks for the welcome. I guessed you were going to suggest that I reformat the new hard drive and reboot with the external drive and then download everything from my external to my new internal. I tried that and after restarting and pressing "T" all I saw on my display was a floating fire wire symbol. In other words even though Carbon Copy Clone said that my external was a bootable drive, it didn't boot. So disk utilities wouldn't let me reformat the new internal drive because it was the start up drive.........
SO, I replaced the new hard drive in my computer with the old one, re formatted the external drive and made another Carbon Copy of my System Partition on my external drive thinking that the original copy wasn't a complete copy. This time I tried to restart using my external drive again. Again only the fire wire symbol.
I am at a loss as to what to do. I don't have another computer to down load into from my old computer and then up load with. I can't re format the new drive because I can't start my computer using my external drive, and I have less than 1 gb of open space left on my old internal hard drive, which is making my computer move slower than a snails pace.
Like I said, I am at a loss.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Did I not download something properly?
Thanks;
Jamie.

I purchased elements 9 for iMac as a paid download 10/23/2015, recently I had to replace my computer's hard drive and lost elements. I had read that downloaded purchases would be available for 3 years but, when I click onto the serial number of that order it isn't active. By clicking onto the link it should take me to the site where I can re download the elements 9 but, it doesn't do anything.  Unfortunately calling Adobe did not help, they will not address any elements questions over the phone, there's a recording directing all elements questions to this forum.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.       Diana

  • Replaced my hard drive and now have no iphoto. Do I now need to purchase it?

Replaced my hard drive after it totally died. Recovered most of the data, but now there is no IPhoto. Do I now need to purchase ILife?

If iPhoto was included with the Mac then the disks that came with your MBP will have a Software Install disk that you can use to do a custom install of just iPhoto or whatever iApp you need. The disk may be like one of these:
    OT

  • I changed my hard drive and now the software will not update to maverick, i have 10.6.8 now

I used the start up disc to get the software and now i can't update to maverick

Does your MacBook Pro meet the minimum hardware requirements to be able to install OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

  • Had to replace my hard drive and now I can't update iPhoto.

(Originally posted this question in the MacBook Pro community but it might do better here.)
When I try to through the App Store I get this message: To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.
I submitted this to the App Store help email (or whatever it's called) and was sent an answer that wasn't helpful at all. I replied to the "if this doesn't work..." but haven't heard back. Anyone else have a solution?
I'm running 10.8.2. So I seem to be up to date. And I have been able to update everything else (such as iTunes yestereday). It's only iPhoto that won't let me update and gives me the above message.

Yes, it is much better to post here for this issue than the other communities.
iTS email I think you are referring to...
    iTunes Store Support
    http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
If their answer wasn't helpful, mind posting it here so I can verify?
Generally, when you have your HD replaced, you are going to run into this problem. However, I am suspecting about all your other apps being alright. As this issue should also effect iMovie and GB as well, thought maybe you are using them.
There is a good chance you'll have to correspond with iTS on this again, and they may eventually grant credits since it's unlikely pulling adoption plists is going to work here.

  • I had to replace my hard drive and when I plug in my iPad, itunes says  it is synced with another computer, and asks to erase all my data. Help!

I had to replace my hard drive and now when I plug in my iPad, itunes says it is synced with another library

That is because the iPad can only "sync" to one iTunes library at a time. You can move all of the iPad contents into a new iTunes library. This discussion will give you a lot of useful information.

This one is Mac specific - not that it is any different except for the iTunes menu.

Remember to authorize the computer in iTunes first - From the iTunes menu go to Store>Authorize this computer.

  • Replaced my hard drive and can't get snow leopard back...

I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled the operating system using my "Leopard" install CD.  But I had purchased "Snow Leopard" and now have no idea how to get "Snow Leopard" back.  Itunes won't work for some reason...everything else is fine.  I do have my time machine...but I had so much junk on their I don't want to just restore it...  I want a fresh computer with what I had purchased..."Snow Leopard"...so that I can maybe upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Can someone help?

You need to reload it from the DVD you used to install it. If you've lost that, the online Apple Store sells them.

  • I had to get a new hard drive and now iPhoto is gone.  Can I get it back?

I had to replace my hard drive and now my iPhoto is gone.  Is there a way to get it back?
    Thanks

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • I had downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and had to replace my hard drive. Now when I try to download it only wants to upgrade since I show that I previously purchased it. What can I do to get the operating system back

I had downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and had to replace my hard drive. Now when I try to download it only wants to upgrade since I show that I previously purchased it. What can I do to get the operating system back

I'm unclear on what the problem is. Have you installed a system on the new hard drive, and if so, what system? Had you actually installed Mountain Lion previously, or only downloaded it? And what does "it only wants to upgrade" mean? Have you actually got Mountain Lion already installed? (See About This Mac in the Apple menu.)
All Macs that shipped with Lion or newer are capable of internet recovery in situations like this. Just hold down command-R and it should start in recovery mode over the internet if necessary. You can reinstall the system from there. If you had Mountain Lion, I would assume that Mountain Lion would be the system you would get reinstalling that way.

I did the back up as instructed... Installed a larger hard drive and followed the restore instructions... Now I get a white screen with a folder icon and blinking question mark. When trying to set startup with new drive I get a bless tool error... Help!!

If you have installed a new hard drive , you will need to have formatted it in Disk Utility correctly. This may explain your problem.
Boot  into your 10.6 Install disk again at the top menubar > Utilities > select Disk utility and in there select your new hard drive, and select the tab Erase and choose to make the format as  Mac OS Extended Journaled. When that is finished look in the main window to make sure that the partition map scheme says GUID Partition Table.
Now go to the Restore tab and reinstall from your backup.

  • Music on hard drive, replaced hard drive and now library won't match up

I put all my cd's on a hard drive (9000 or so songs) and had a hard drive failure, so I moved all the songs to a new hard drive and now I can't use the Itunes library to connect with that hard drive, except one song at at a time.
Is there any way to get these two to communicate?
    David

Is the rest of your music located in a different folder? You'd need to know where those files are in order to add them to iTunes. If you're not sure of their location, try a Spotlight search. Are you not able to locate the files to add them to iTunes, or are you selecting them but they are not appearing in the iTunes library?
I have all the actual music files located on a external hard drive, but the itunes file name(s) are located on the computer. The problem started when I got a new computer and switched all the stuff over, and then got a new hard drive because the old one was making noises. I copied one hard drive directly over to the other and now am trying to connect the two so they talk together.
The fix you sent me semed to work great until I noticed that I did not have any music after the letter "a" (namely 1/36 of the music). I ried it again with another copy I had and lost that too. Now, I am working with the copy I had on the other computer, which doesn't have all the data, but does have most of it, and I can survive adding the other stuff later somehow by re-copying the music and getting the data over again, but I do want to somehow get the other 35 letters worth, if possible.

  • I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files.  It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5.  I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them.  I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.
    Thanks again for any help!!!!

It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

Follow the prompts at the link provided by Ned.
Everything's there including your new CS2 non-activation download file and your new non-activation serial number.
It's free for existing owners of CS and CS2. Nothing more to purchase.
