Replaceing previous iPod touch with new one...how to Sync?

Hi, Received a new iPod Touch for Christmas to replace my 2nd Gen version that had run out of memory capacity. My question is...how do I get all of my iTunes library that's on my PC onto the new iPod touch? I want to keep my current iTunes account, just move everything onto the new device? Is it as simple as just plugging it in and naming it the same as the old device? I'm assuming the new serial number will supercede the previous..will that render my previous device useless? I'd still like to keep it for use in the car.

Thanks, do I have to have a archived back-up (i.e. DVD's) of my itunes to do the recovery, or is there an archive on the hard-drive that's hidden?
every time you synced your old iPod, iTunes should have made a backup. all you have to do is plug in the new gadget and follow on-screen instructions.

I can't figure out how to close apps to save battery life since this update. Any resources on how to operate the iPod touch with the new update would be appreciated.

Double click the Home button and swipe the thumbnail of the app (not the app icon) upwards to delete/close the app.

  • Any problems in syncing iPod Touch with new computer?

My wife's iBook died and now I need to switch her to a newer computer. She had been syncing her iPod Touch with the old computer and she also has an iTunes account. During the down time she has been entering calendar data directly into the iPod Touch.
When I get her backup data into the new computer what kind of problems will we encounter? Will it correctly sync her calendars and contacts? Can she move or close her iTunes account from the new computer? Thanks.

Before you scrap the old one, go into iTunes and deauthorize the computer. When you get the new one set up and ready to go, go back into iTunes and authorize the new computer.
I'm not sure how you plan to transfer your library, but a portable hard drive or a big memory stick do work well. Don't forget to copy over the xml file as well as that will preserve your settings in iTunes.

  • Can't sinc my ipod touch with new 3.0 software

I got the new 3.0 software for my ipod touch and now it wont let me sinc my ipod it is saying that there is no SIM card in my iPhone i think that it is mistakeing my iPod touch with a iPhone. Can someone help me

OK, I wound up going to my local Genius Bar, and here's what we did:
    1) reinstalled iTunes ...still didn't sync
    2) repaired disk permissions...same thing
    3) created a new user account on my MacBook and checked to see if my iPod touch would sync then...it did
    4) went back to my user account, re-restored my iPod Touch and deleted the iPod backup file...and then it synced. At this point, it looked like it was a corrupted backup file.
When I got home and hooked it up to let it finish syncing, I realized that none of my photos had been transferred to my iPod touch, so I told it to...and the -50 error came up again. Another round of restoring the iPod and deleting the backup file, then I told it to load my photos from the My Pictures folder, rather than from iPhoto (which was the original setting before all this happened)...and it was fine. So my guess is that something in iPhoto 6 is tripping up the iTunes software (or vice versa) and screwing up the backup/sync process. I'll continue to keep an eye on it and see if that holds.
Thanks to Ariel at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store at the Menlo Park Mall, Edison, NJ! You were a great help, and thanks for your patience!

  • Synching iPod Touch with new Mac

Our old Mac died and and the files were not recoverable.  I have not synched my iPod Touch with the new Mac/iTunes.  I have heard synching will wipe my iPod clean.  Can I synch my iPod with the new Mac and keep my apps and music on both Mac & iPod?

My daughter has locked her I pod touch with a password, how do I fix this?

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

You can buy whatever ipod you want.
Damage is not covered by warranty so they will not replace it under warranty.
All of your music/apps should be in itunes on your computer and included in your regular backup of your computer.
Just sync it to the new ipod.

  • I forgot my Apple Id and Icloud Id of my Ipod touch. how can i restore my ipod touch with new ID

I have an Ipod touch 5S
I forgot my Apple ID and my Icloud ID
I tried to connect it to Itunes and do a ''restore as new Ipod'' but could not find this option
Can you help me restoring my Ipod as new

You need to recover them because yo will run into:
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
Is there a way to find my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?
Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?
If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to My Apple ID and follow the instructions. SeeChanging your Apple ID password if you'd like more information.
    Ans if necessary:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:
    Disabled Recovery-must use syncing computer.

  • Transfer playlists from old ipod touch to new one?

My daughter downloaded music directly to her ipod touch and made a bunch of different playlists directly on the touch.  She just bought a new touch and would like to transfer the music and playlists from the one touch to the new one.  Is there any way to do this?

After reading several help menus and some discussions here, I was able to solve the problem for the most part.  For those who may have the same question:
Backing up your ipod will not back up music and videos and playlists associated with them in the backup.  It will, however, add all that music to your itunes library, but you are stuck re-creating all of your playlists.  After searching, I found that senuti (itunes backwards) will do the job.  You can download a free trial, or, if you have more than 1000 things to transfer, you can purchase it for $18.99.  You can then move music, videos and any playlists that you created on your ipod onto your computer's itunes and then just transfer those onto the new itunes.  It worked really slick for me.
My only remaining issue was that the backup does not save folders that you may have sorted your apps into.  My daughter had over 200 apps that were all nicely sorted - now she has to recreate all of those folders.  Does anyone have any quick tips for this - or know how to get itunes to save that folder configuration for apps?

  • ITunes not recognizing original IPod touch after new one installed

I tried to set up new IPod touch but itunes wouldn't recognize it. Downloaded latest version of itunes. Was able to set up new IPod touch but now old touch not being recognized by itunes. Went through the troubleshooting guide with no positive results. Old (unreconized) touch is fully charged. Restarted computer. Restarted itunes. Changes usb ports. Nothing working. Any ideas?

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply to my posting about iTunes not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading to Leopard.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Thanks for setting me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • Can't sync g2 ipod touch with new computer (windows7)

My original computer died and was unrepairable. I am trying to authorize my new computer (windows 7) to sync with my g2 ipod touch. I can sync apps, but it won't allow me to sync anything else - it keeps wanting to delete the contents of my ipod in order to sync.
When I plug my ipod into the computer, it won't read anything off of the ipod.  What do I do?
I DO have a file with my music backed up on it on an external hd, but I can't seem to repopulate my library with it. I've tried dragging the folder onto the itunes folder (something that usually works with other files) but it's not doing anything.
    I hope someone can help.
p.s. A g1 ipod shuffle that I plugged in worked fine. Computer asked me if I wanted to make this computer an authorized one, I answered the questions and it was done. No problems. My g2 ipod won't do the same thing.

With iTunes, syncing music, video and audiobooks is one way, computer-->iPod.
You need to move your iTunes library to the new computer from the old one, or use another method to get the data off the iPod.
