Replacement base station is not allowing other airport express to work

I recently had to replace a faulty airport express which I was using as a base station. I have 2 other aiport express units which are being used to extend the useable distance of the wireless connection, however since the new base station was replaced I find that the other 2 units do not stop flashing yellow and therefore I cannot connect to the internet from those other units

Hard (or Factory) Reset your Airport Express units and re-add them to your network.
The MAC address of the main base station has changed (as you have replaced it) which I suspect is causing your problem.

  • AirPort Extreme Base Station is not Available in AirPort Admin Utility

I don't see my APEX Base Station in the list in AirPort Admin Util. I can configure by opening by IP. I have no software firewall. I have plugged in directly to base station, and have reflash with 5.7 firmware. I am using 4.2 of AirPort Admin. I've Tried everything I can find in forums. Anyone else have issues?
    I'm using Mac OS 10.4.4

I have tried resetting it. It doesn't always work. Sometimes the base station is listed, and sometimes it is not. The base station is functioning though. I can access the newtork, It just doesn't show up in Admin Util.
I also have an AP Epress connected to AP Extreme via WDS. From the wired side, they either both show up or both do not, which is expected. When they don't show up on the Admin list, the Express also doesn't show up in iTunes from the wired side. Wireless clients don't seem to exhibit this problem.

  • Do i need an extreme base station if i have an airport express?

I just got an Apple ibook G4 laptop through a program at my school which is Airport ready. I'm not really that computer smart. At home we have 1 ethernet cord attached to a different computer but I want to set up a wireless connection in my room just for my laptop. Can I do that with just an airport express base station, or do I have to have a stationary one first? Would it be easier just to buy the extreme base station even though it costs more? Also, how does the express work? Do you just plug it into the wall, or does it have to be connected to some sort of phone jack, or what? Again, not computer smart at all. HELP!!!

bcbandtiger, Welcome to the discussion area!
Since an AirPort Express (AX) won't support a wired (Ethernet connected) computer, you can't solve your problem that way.
If your only goal is to create a wireless network for the laptop, you need either the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) or any other inexpensive 802.11b/g compliant wireless router. These will provide an Ethernet port for you wired computer and create the wireless network for your laptop.
Do you just plug it into the wall, or does it have to be connected to some sort of phone jack, or what?
It would plug into your home Ethernet connection.

  • Base station does not show in airport utility

How do you display a base station in the airport utility?

Sorry, but an "older" one does not tell us much about which model that you have....since there are about a dozen different base stations which might be called "older", and the tips and tricks are different depending on what model that you have.
If you do not know the model number, please look on the bottom of the base station. The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers. Depending on what model that you have, It might be found on a label, or it might be embedded in the foam pad.  Post back with the model number.
You did not answer our question regarding what version of AirPort Utility that you are using. We need that information to be able to help. If you have a Mac, open AirPort Utility and click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About AirPort Utility and post back with the version number that you see there.

  • HT4262 Can I extend a WiFi Network, using a 802.11n Airport Base Station with a 802.11g Airport Express?

Having a new Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11n) I need to extend the network since even the AirPort Extreme provides after about 30 Feet maximum only 50% signal strength in 2.4 GHz and maximum 41% signal strength in the 5 GHz band.
I have an Apple Airport Express (802.11g) but I am not sure that it can extend with it the network to get a better signal strength?
I know I can only use the Apple Airport Utility 5.6 to access the AirPort Express, but I can see also the AirPort Extreme though it (5.6).
Also, it seems that my "old" Wireless Motorola Cable Modem (SBG900) for the same distance (about 30 Feet), which is a 802.11g, gives still a better signal strength (62%) than the Apple Airport Extreme...
I guess I need the proper instructions how to, if it is possible.
    Any intelligent answers available? Thanks.

This is very confusing. The AirPort Express Base Station has three settings (under "Wireless" in the AirpPort Utility 5.6) "Create a wireless Network", "Participate in a WDS network" and "Join a wireless network".
Whereas the first is self-explanatory the second and third seem to indicate, that a relation with an existing Network can be created. This is also indicated, when selecting as the "Wireless Mode:" "Join a wireless network" and then selecting "Wireless Network Name:" where then all available networks 802.11 b/g/n pop up you can choose which to use.
Now, it does not make any sense, that if all these settings and selections are available, that the AirPort Express cannot extend an existing network, considering that the AirPort Extreme, which is a 802.11b/g/n can be connected to. Even the AirPort Utility 6.0 sees the AirPort Express 802.11b/g but when selected alerts that "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support." And as said, that AirPort Utility 5.6 sees everything and has said setting options.
The way as I see this it is, that if I can pickup an existing network, created with an AirPort Extreme 802.11b/g/n with an AirPort Express 802.11b/g and have the option to "Join a wireless network" such AirPort Express should be able to broadcast the picked up and joint network. Otherwise the setting options for the AirPort Express are nothing else than a distortion of reality to me.
Also, before I got the new AirPort Extreme 802.11b/g/n I had an AirPort Extreme Base Station 802.11b/g (gray) and there I was able to extend the network via the AirPort Express 802.11b/g.
So the above comments do not make sense to me.
Hope you understand that and have a better explanation available.

  • I have a Cisco wireless router.  Can I buy an Airport Express plug in booster for a distant part of my house or do I need an Airport Extreme base station instead to make the Airport Express plug in booster work?

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?

You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly.

  • Airport Extreme base station does not appear in Airport Utility

I cannot see the basestation that I am connected to via WIFI or Ethernet.  I cannot see the basestation on ipad or iphone app either.  Basestation is working fine and i have connection working fine with a green light but cannot configure the basestation to allow guest networks or connect my external storage drive.
    any suggestions will be appreciated.

OK. That should be a third or fourth generation Extreme, plenty new enough. (The most recent OS X and iOS versions of AirPort Utility cannot configure the original Extremes, but they can handle my mid-2007 second generation Extreme.)
If two or three devices on the same network as the Extreme cannot "see" the configuration interface, I would guess that the problem lies in the Extreme itself.
Have you tried power cycling the Extreme?
Did you purchase AppleCare for your 2011 MBP? If so, and if you bought the Extreme less than two years earlier, the AppleCare should cover the Extreme also.

  • Time Capsule base stations does not appear in AirPort Utility

However I can see it the Time Capsule on my iPhone's Airport utility.
I have tried rebooting Time Capsule a few times, didin't help.

Unfortunately, you are describing the symptoms of an AirPort Extreme with a failing (or failed) internal power supply.
As a last resort, try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Power off the AirPort by pulling the power cord
    Wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
Release the reset button and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Now try to configure the AirPort again.  If you continue to see the same symptoms as before, the AirPort will need to be replaced.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the response. I tried that approach this evening and it didn't work for me. (Technically it worked for me, when I was hardwired into my base station, but would not work for me wirelessly, which is my main issue.)
Again, using the approach you recommended works only if I have my ethernet cable attached to the LAN port so my computer is communicating directly to the base station through the hard wire. I am able to scan for my base station and make setting adjustments normally this way too.
As soon as I disconnect from the LAN port and try to go wireless is where I run into problems. The Base Station's wireless network I created is available to choose in the top right corner of the monitor with all of the other available wireless devices/networks -- but the network I created does not have access to the internet. I am also unable to configure my Base Station wirelessly. When my Airport Utility tries to scan for the Base Station and Network, it cannot find any Apple Wireless Device. It's like the Wireless Network in my base station is not sending out a signal.
Is there a way to resolve this issue?

  • How can I get Time Machine to back up an external hard drive (iPhotos) that is attached to airport extreme base station. Note: Time machine is usb to macbook pro and external drive with iphotos is usb to airport extreme base station. Help please. Thanks!

Once you have the drive connected to your Mac, click System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Click Time Machine
    Click Options
Be default, the hard drive will be Excluded from backups. Click the drive to highlight it, then click the "-" (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the drive from Excluded items.
The drive will be backed up on the next Time Machine pass
Everything above assumes that the hard drive has been formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as Time Machine will only backup drives in that format.

  • Airport base station does NOT deliver a solid connection!

I have an older Airport base station (an extreme-square, flat, white, you know the one). Ever since I installed the most recent firmware update I get next to no data flow through from the provider. If I connect direct to the provider router via ethernet cable I get amazing connectivity speeds. I change the set up to connect via the Airport and I get either no connection or 5 KBS.... a speed, when it available is a joke. While trying to run through the Airport my Airport signal is full strength. It appears the base station does not know how to digest and dispense the information from the service provider into a full band of connectivity. The problem exists with both Apple laptops in the house. I have done all the required resets and restarts and to no avail. Connecting direct, which is a HUGE hassle, provides amazing speeds. I had none of these issues before I did the firmware update about three days ago (about 12.18.09). Any thoughts or directions to help me out?
    Thanks!

Your Express requires an IP address to be issued by the device connected to its WAN port, in most cases that is a cable modem.
Power down your modem and let it rest. Leave it powered down, connect it to your AirPort Express, then power it back up again. This permits the modem to supply the Express the IP address it needs.
Like it says, if you still can’t connect, contact your Internet service provider.

  • Steady green light on A1084. Airport Utility 5.6 says set up is complete.   Airport Express base station does not appear in the menu bar, so I cannot select it.  Is there a fix?

Steady green light on A1084. Mac OS X 10.7.5. IMac. Verizon DSL Actiontec GT704-WGB modem. Airport Utility 5.6 says set up is complete.   Airport Express base station does not appear in the menu bar, so I cannot select it and send a signal to airport express to play airtunes through my stereo amplifier.  Is there a fix?

I plugged a model A1034 Airport Extreme Base Station into the Verizon DSL Actiontec GT704-WGB modem with an ethernet cable and now the AirPlay icon appears in the Itunes window immediately to the right of the volume control and I can select it and play Airtunes wirelessly through the A1038 Airport Express Base Station in another room connected to a stereo amplifier by a Monster mini-to-RCA left/right audio cable running from the output jack on the A1034 Airport Express Base Station into the CD jacks on the amp.  The problem is that I have to select the Apple Network Airport Express Base Station as my network in order to select the Airport Express Base Station when I click the AirPlay icon, which means I have no Internet signal to the Imac. If I select the Airport Extreme Base Station or the Verzion modem as my network, then I have an Internet signal to the Imac, but the Airport Express Base Station is grayed out when I click on the AirPlay icon, so I cannot select the Airport Express Base Station and send tunes to the Airport Express.  It would be nice to play Airtunes while simultaneously accessing the Internet.  I don't understand your question about what program I am using for which I require AirPlay.  I am not learned about computers in general, and even less so about Macs than PCs.  I thought the program I was running was Itunes, and there was no separate program to run to use AirPlay for the purpose of sending a signal from the Itunes on the Imac to the A1084 Airport Express base station in a another room, and then out as described above to the stereo amplifier to listen to Itunes music remotely in the other room, without any kind of cable, wire, etc., connecting the Imac to the stereo amplifier.  I would guess that the most common use for the A1084 is to play Itunes through a stereo in another room without the need to run wires from the computer to the stereo.  I realize it would be easy simply to run a very long mini-to-RCA left/right audio cable across the floor connecting the Imac to the amp without the need to use AirTunes, Airplay or any kind of AirPort, but it would be both unsightly and a tripping hazard.

  • HT1199 My mac has OSX version 10.8.2 and I'm try to install an aiport express base station which requires 10.5.7 or later. Yet when I try to install the software it says the base station is not compatible with my mac version - how do I resolve?

You already have the software installed that you need if you have 10.8.2.
If AirPort Utility cannot find the Express, that is another matter. More software is not needed. More troublehooting is needed.
Power up the Express for a full minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 7-8 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a heading of New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on AirPort Express
    What happens?

  • I have a MacBook ProDo I have to have the Airport Extreme Base Station for my Airport Express to work?

I cannot get the darn Airport Express to work!  It just keeps blinking Amber.  I know it must be something silly I am over looking.  And I do not have the Airport Extreme Base Station.
    Thank you for any help!!!

    Thanks,
This is the rear of your modem/router:
Connect a Cat5e or Cat6 cable from any of the 4 Ethernet Lan ports to the (single) socket on the Express, then go to Airport Utility (Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility) and select create a new network.
You will need to turn the wireless transmiter in the Netgear off, here is a link to the Netgear Manual in case you need to refer to it.
