Replacement battery from recall worse than old one

I received my replacement battery, which I assumed would be new, but it is not doing a very good job of keeping a long charge. Whereas my old battery could give me over 3 hours if I optimized my settings, my new one barely gives me 2. Anyone else get a less than desirable battery after the recall?

Ok, have done two deep cycles, and the meter won't get above 3 hours, then drops and fluctuates a lot between 2:30 and 2:40. At the moment it's at 2:34 and 93%.
The original battery got to over 4 hours when charged, and the meter sometimes touched 5 hours.
Cheers Apple. I now have a battery that's (according to the gauge) not so good for a day of portable use. I'd like the old one back, please!

  • New replacement battery worse than old one

My Ibook 12" and battery were on the recall list. I didn't notice to much in the way of heat or bad battery life before the recall, but I thought this was a good chance to get a new battery. Well the new one came and it is way worse than the old one. Fan is running almost constantly, poor battery life, the hard drive side is getting very hot, Charger is running hot. I don't think I want to keep the new battery, any advise.
    Thanks in advance

Hi josh and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Firstly, check to see if your new battery is also on the recall list. It has happened…
Secondly, your new battery is subject to Apple's standard 90 day warrantee. If it is defective, irrespective of its recall status, then it should be replaced. Contact your local Applecare and explain, calmly and politely, the problems that you are having and your concerns for your own safety and that of your iBook. An iBook's fan shouldn't run constantly and the charger shouldn't be uncomfortably hot.
You'll do no harm, and might do some good, by doing a PMU reset:
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait at least 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the iBook
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • New filters of Nokia Creative Studio much worse than old ones

    Hi,
I am very dissatisfied with the new filters of the Nokia Creative Studio of my Nokia Lumia 1020.
The old filters where just great and I did not use my professional camera anymore.
The new filters do not improve the quality and look of the pics, the pics look unnatural and cheesy.
How can I get this feedback to the Nokia developers?
    Kind Regards Nicola

  • Brand new battery replaced in Genius Bar much worst than old one ?

Hi. Few days ago my iphone 5 turned off and I was not able to turn it on. So yesterday I went to Genius Bar and they said it was battery and change my battery for new one. As my iphone was 2 months out of warranty I paid 79$ + tax. And it looks for me new battery is much worse.. It takes so long to charge it and it drains so fast.. I charged it to 100 % at 10 pm last night, used it maybe for 5 mins just to check email  and that type of things. I Turned off all the apps. And I had it on wifi. By 3 am it was on 18 %.. I wonder did they give me worse battery ? Im so annoyed..

Not much we can do here. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • RESULT - Free Replacement Battery from Apple UK

    Hi to All,
Like a lot of you I had problems with my battery. I noticed earlier this year my MBP would power-off when there was still lots of battery charge left. It gradually got worse and worse. A few months ago I noticed whenever I pulled the power cord out it would switch off and recently I can only use it when it's plugged in.
I read about the battery problems online, and on this forum. I discovered it was a very common problem. I had assumed there was nothing I could do other than buy a new battery, but after reading posts from some of you who have had success getting a replacement one I thought I'd call Apple. Nothing to lose other than cost of phone call. To be honest I wasn't expecting to get any joy as I bought my MBP in May 2006.
I spoke to a overly-friendly guy in Bangalore who kept saying "Don't worry, don't worry. I will sort this out for you". He took my details and serial number etc.. then kept putting me on hold as he spoke to his 'supervisor'. After 15 mins he explained that my battery's serial no. is one that qualified for the replacement programme - but that only applied up to 2 years after purchase. As mine is 30 months old, he had to do some arm twisting and they made an exception for me. He transferred me to a woman in Scotland who gave me a case number etc.. She then passed me onto a dispatch guy.
After 20 mins on the phone my free replacement battery is on it's way. Not sure if I've just been very lucky on this occasion, but I would recommend calling Apple Support wherever you are, before going ahead and forking out for a new battery.

Hmm... Newer Technologies' reseller list includes OWC/esales but they
are not the same; one is a reseller and the other is a manufacturer. A
few product names at OWC are not seen anywhere else unless you look
real hard, but Newer Tech and NuPower can be bought direct from Newer
Technologies online; and a reseller could contact them to carry their stuff.
In any event, if just the plastic is mal-formed, and the section not fitting up
is just a layer of white plastic, that'd be comparatively easy to change. If
nothing else, Apple should have a shorter waiting list on replacement cells
now the recall numbers have been going out to customers. I got mine after
about a two month wait; and after all that waiting, I've gotten over the need
    to use a portable computer. It just sits there and I have to hassle with it;
to keep it charged up and up to date. With winter here, I don't carry it while
travelling anywhere, it'd freeze too easily over the distances I have to go!
Did Newer Tech offer to refund monies and take back these odd batteries?
Have you contacted other battery sales sources for comparative products?
The quality and support plus warranty (and fit, finish, compatibility)
    are all important details.
Some cheap replacements could be dangerous and not suited for use in
the iBook or PowerBook they are intended to replace. I see some at
places like amazon afiliate stores, and wonder what they really are inside.

  • New hard drive slower than old one

Hello, my Seagate 120GB 5400rpm drive crashed 6 weeks ago and I made use of the warranty to get a replacement (refurbished) drive. I think this drive is no good because I have noticed a marked decrease in performance:
-Upon coming back from sleep mode the screen turns on but it pinwheels for several seconds, showing the time it was when I put it to sleep.
-My battery also lasts considerably less now. The battery is about a year old and had been lasting me up to two hours. It now doesn't last much more than one.
-I also tried to rip a dvd today and had to stop because it was going 5x slower than it had even on this drive when I first got it.
Is there anything else that could be causing me this decreased performance besides a subpar drive?
I have been in touch with Seagate again this weekend and they suggested I send it in for another replacement, which is fine, but is there a way I can copy all of this drive onto my replacement when it gets here? Or should I need to start fresh and reinstall everything on the new one?
    Thanks.

You might want to check that you have selected a startup disk as "Macintosh HD" so the OS x knows where to boot from. If there is no selection under startup items in System Preferences then boot up is delayed by a few seconds as OS X would look for a functional startup disk.
Check and see if this works for you in bringing down boot times.

  • Are replacement ipods from the apple store refurbished ones?

I broke my 4th gen ipod's screen saturday and I was pretty bummed out bc I thought I was going to have to buy a new one, but I took it to the apple store on sunday and they were pretty cool about it and gave me a new one for free, but is it really a new ipod or is it a refurb? it works pretty nice and it's even faster and more responsive than the one that broke but im noticing the battery runnin low a bit faster than the old one, I'm going to completely drain it and recharge it to see if that helps, but yeah anyone know how good the replacement ipods are?

Almost all the time replacement iPods are refurbished ones, not new. The only case I think you would get a new one is if there were not any refurbished ones available. Regarding battery life, it is high dependent upon the apps you have and the settings for the apps. Thus, a little shorter battery live is probably due to different settings/apps rater than a bad battery.

  • Battery from Recall program

    Hi there,
I just receive my new battery from the recall program. My preliminary usage for the battery, from charged to discharged, is around 3 hours, medium lightning, no CDs, regular usage. I thought the new batteries are suppose to last around 5 hours? Is there anyways i can check if the battery is new? I live in Indonesia currently and i am afraid that the vendor over here might switched the battery...
    Shan

3 hours sounds about right to me. The 5 hour claim really only applies if the computer is essentially idle, screen backlight turned almost all the way down, energy saving settings at maximum - in other words, it's the maximum time the battery may last.
I've never seen a Albook (or older TiBook) get more then 3 to 3.5 hours with normal use (example, e-mail, web browsing, word processing).

  • New Battery Worse than Old

Through Best Buy I had Apple replace the battery in my nearly two-year old iPod Mini 4G. I was getting 5 hours before I sent it off. (A year ago I got nearly 8.) I got it back the other day and did a test: 4 hours! Has anyone else had this experience?
    Sheldon
P.S.: Why doesn't iTunes start up when I plug in the iPod. I have it set to do that, but it refuses.

I've fully recharged two more times now. I'm getting about 6 hours and 30 minutes under optimal conditions: No backlight, no EQ, no manual track changes, just repetition of a single album.
Can I expect it to get better than that? Is the age of the battery the only thing that determines play time? The guy at Best Buy said it is also determined by the age of the circuitry. Could that be?

  • New battery is smaller than old one

I had the battery replaced due to the recall. The new battery appears to be 'shrinking' and does not sit in the battery compartment very well. Theree is a sharp lip around the edge of the compartment. Has anyone had this issue - especially with a black MacBook. Is there a way to make it fit properly, or is the new battery faulty too?

I had my BlackBooks battery replaced a few months ago and it fits pretty good. You might take it in to a store and show it to them.

  • New Macbook Pro slower than old one.

I recently got a new Macbook Pro, unibody, with 2.8 Ghz core 2 duo and 4 GB Ram. I am upgrading from a Macbook Pro with the previous body design, that is 2.5 Ghz core 2 duo and came with 2GB RAM but I upgraded to 4GB myself.
I got the new MBP, migrated some applications and my settings. Now when I start Firefox I sometimes get the spinning beach ball for a few moments before my homepage loads. Also for example, if I have 2 tabs open, with one playing a youtube video in the background and I'm browsing in the other, the video will stutter and I'll get the beach ball for a few moments when I try to go to another page. This happens no matter what browser I try (Firefox, Safari, Camino). And it never happens on my older MBP, it's a little annoying that a system that is 2 years older seems to perform better.
    Any ideas or tips?

You might want to check that you have selected a startup disk as "Macintosh HD" so the OS x knows where to boot from. If there is no selection under startup items in System Preferences then boot up is delayed by a few seconds as OS X would look for a functional startup disk.

  • After removing and replacing a hyperlink why is the old one still in the html code?

I'm using a tool tip in a master page, the hyperlink is used on the base image and on the roll-over tip.

  • Sharpness APERTURE vs iPHOTO~file exported from Aperture worse than iPhoto

    HEY.
i'm recently using Aperture for my Photo Editing work.I found that everything Good and Perfect after fine tune and preview in the Window of Aperture...while Export it to the Jpeg (originaly image import from jpeg file) I found it's a bit loose from what i see in the Window Aperture...means,Loose the Sharpness...whole image getting un-sharp or s'ld i say added gausion blur of feel??
Once i import it(the one exported from Aperture) into iPhoto and Export it (even down size to 800 of diamention) it became Sharp and nice colour tone while compare with the one which Export from Aperture!!!!
    Why?
In the Export setting of Aperture i do set the Quality to max 12 and 300dpi even...
    Need your hand...thanks!!

WARNING! The sharpness problem is occurring in iPhoto modifications as well! I'm running Tiger and Leopard at the same time on 2 different computers - SAME EXACT SHARPNESS problems. The problem is NOT the OS - it's in the APPLE Photo Aps!

  • Project 2013- Trying a to move a task within the project and have it respect new predecessor rather than old one

Ok, I am working on a rather large project schedule.
Before having to upgrade to Project 2013, the file was used in Project 2007.
Basically I am having a problem with moving tasks only to have them still respect their old predecessor instead of just the new one.
Basically I have 4 tasks ( with start dates): Task A: 1st of month, Task B: 5th of month, Task C: 9th of month, Task D: 13th of month.
I would want to move say Task D infront of Task B and have it go A/1st, D/5th, B/9th, C/13th. But all that happens is that the tasks change order but all the dates remain with their original tasks. This wasn't a problem before Project 2013.
Is there any fix for this outside of having to unlink and relink every time I make  change?

    GarrettW23,
You're right, it doesn't work the same in Project 2010 & later as it did in Project 2007 and earlier. The feature you desire is controlled by the option setting to autolink inserted or moved tasks. As far as I can tell there is a bug that was likely
introduced when manual scheduling was added to Project 2010. Now, if the option is set, two links will be set up, the original link to the old predecessor and a new one to the new predecessor.
I'm surprised this bug hasn't been fixed but I guess it's not something a lot of users have an issue with. Meanwhile, edit your links after drag and drop as Rod suggests.

  • My MacBook Pro has downloaded my old emails twice into my Outlook folder. Why? How do I stop this from recalling all the old emails?

My MacBook Pro has downloaded all my previous emails (several months worth) and reloaded them into my Inbox twice! Why is this happening? How do I get it to stop from happening again?
    Thanks!

Since this is an Outlook question, you should ask over on the Microsoft Office for Mac forums.
