Replacement DSL Modem 6100G not working

I was having trouble with my 6 year old Westell modem and having to reset it at first once every 6 months and lately once to twice a week sometimes daily.  I called Verizon Tech support and after an hour on the phone and several line tests it was determined that I needed a new modem.  While on the phone I was passed to several different people trying to resolve the problem.  All I accomplished was I was getting a new modem, I was put on new equipment in the C.O., and I upgraded my speed.  I was told that I would be receiving my new modem in two to three days.  After a week and a half I still had not received my modem.  I again called Tech support, gave them the ticket number and tried to find out where my modem was.  The tech who answered my call tested the line again after several times of me telling her that all I needed was to find out where my modem was and it was already determined to the cause of my problem.  She told me there was no way for her to track my modem.  She then transferred me to someone else who I then stopped and told him the situation and he informed me that the delivery company told them the modem was undeliverable due to an address error.  Another modem was shipped and I received it in two days.  When the new modem arrived it said to "Connect the modem Immediately" on a sticker on the modem.  I connected it and DSL LED was on solid and Data LED was flashing and the Internet LED failed to light and then turned red.  I called tech support and was on hold for about an hour even though the automated message stated that I had a trouble ticket and it would get me to someone who could resolve my problem.  I finally got in touch with a Tech and he assured me that my problem was simple and it would take no time to correct the problem.  After another hour I was told that I was in an "Outage" but my old modem was allowing me to connect to the internet by some "Miracle".  He told me to not use the new modem but to continue to use the old modem and go out to the Internet and try to find updates for it on the Internet.  I had another trouble ticket opened because I had static on the line as well.  While I was looking online for an answer elsewhere I ran across this AWESOME site www.dslreports.com.  It was the answer to all my problems!  I found that all I needed to do was to have the "Tech" release the Mac address from my old modem or just disconnect it for four hours before connecting the new one.  I did the four hour method and I am online again!  After all of that I have wasted 8 hours of my life I will never get back thanks to Verizon's "Tech Support"!

  • DSL Modem will not give me an IP address

I keep getting the amber flashing light when I am connected to my DSL modem. Airport Utility says that I am not getting a Valid IP address from my modem. My Linksys wireless router works fine, I even tried connected my Linksys travel router to my DSL modem and it worked fine. I can't see any obvious ip conflics either. I have read almost every post in this forum and tried everthing with no luck.
I have figured out a work around, if I plug my AE(n) into one of my ethernet ports on my Linksys router it immediatly gets a valid ip and the light turns green and I am conneced to the internet.
I really don't want to be running both routers and wireless networks and would rather plug the AE(n) directly into my DSL modem.
I would be grateful for any ideas.

I have the same problem, but don't have the benefit of a router workaround.
Two separate flavors of the problem...
    1. I have tried manually setting the IP address, and adding subnet/router addresses as well as DNS server addresses. Copied them all from my original AE to the new one. Interestingly the new AE status light will turn green when IP address is configured manually, but can't get to the internet despite the color of the light. When I try to launch Safari or Firefox, it just times out, never getting to the homepage.
    2. Went back and configured with DHCP (as I have on the old AE for over a year.) When it restarts, the new AE just sits and stares at me with its blinking amber light. Tried again and ran level 7 debug logging and there's no indication of what went wrong. Just that frustrating blinking amber light and the error message that my base station has an incorrect IP address.
In either case, I can unplug the new AE, reconnect the old and I'm immediately back in business.
Have tried the above after shutting down, unplugging, starting from scratch with every possible permutation I could think of. Still no dice.
    Ideas/help??

  • Dial UP Modem is not working properly in Satellite A200-1GB

My A200 - 1 GB's modem is not working properly. It tries to connect but at last it says remote computer is not responding. As i noticed It has a "Agree" 56kpbs modem.
It shown as Toshiba Software Modem.
I tried so many times it doesn't work properly. I tried by changing the assigned COM ports to several other COM ports like COM1,COM10,COM 4 ext... same thing occurs.
When I diagnose the modem via the modem properties no matters found.
Same as when I'm dialing through the modem to a telephone (i mean as a call) it's working properly. I mean it can call to a mobile phone or land phone.
But the same phone line is working properly with my desktop modem as same as another HP laptop modem.
It seems there is some malfunction on my 56k modem.
I tried even uninstalling and reinstalling but still the matter exists.
Can anybody help me in this case?

    Hi Todd,
I haven't heard other reports of this (though there was an issue quite some time ago where deleting pages on this combination of Acrobat/OS was challenging).
Can you please tell me what happens when you try to replace pages? Do you get an error message? Are you able to manipulate pages otherwise (delete, extract, and so on)? Is this issue unique to one file, or does it happen with all PDF files?
I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Technical details on why DSL modem does not stay synched

[ Please no rantings about Verizon for this thread ]
I would greatly appreciate if a technically knowledgeable individual would explain why DSL modems lose synch with the central office. Sometimes the modem can stay connected all day without one interruption. And sometimes the modem will lose synch several times in one hour. Why does this happen? Is this just due to noise on the line or are there more technical explanations for this situation?
In my case, I have a Westell 6100G modem. My DSL service is 1 Mbps. These are my typical statistics
    Transceiver Revision  3.3.2.2.0.1
    Vendor ID Code            4D54
    Line Mode                      ADSL_2plus
    Data Path                       FAST
    Transceiver              Down     Up
    DSL speed               1184     447
    Margin (dB)                 31.5   29.9
    Line attentuation       32.5   13.6
    Transmit power           6.0    12.0
    Thank you.

        David
Basically the modem has a sliding scale as to the Variance in it's Signal to Noise Ratio.    These are measured in Decibals.
The variance comes from line conditions, so typically this is affected by a lot of things, moisture in the air at night or in the morning, condensation on the telephone lines, heat and cold expanding and contracting the copper wiring, so depending on conditions in the field that are environemental in nature, the line will fluctuate it's signal.  This particular problem is between the CO And your house only so there isn't a issue with other users affecting your service at all, but the quality of the line outside.  There are several break points that a technician can look at to find the problem, and there are SEVERAL things that they could change in order to fix the problem, HOWEVER if they change it to interleave provisioning, it is designed to do auto correction on the line, and if the line is not severely affected, it will compensate and correct all those problems.  There are instances where interleave provisioning can not fix those issues, and that means that your trouble could be more severe than you though, and then a VZ technician would have to go out and start isolating where the problem is.  They will test in the Central office, in the outside plant and then ultimately back at your house.
8/10 times interleave provisioning will fix a problem like that for 1.5 mb customers and lower speed tiers.   higher speed tiers are a little tricker.

  • Quest DSL Modem will not connect

I am trying to connect to DSL via Qwest and 2wire modem. I have gone through all the shut-down, and restart sequences on other posts and still, the green lights on the modem come on for ethernet, power and DSL but the Internet light on the modem remains red. It will not allow me to connect to 172.16.0.1 as suggested by another post.
Qwest tells me I should contact apple as it is not a modem problem.
Since I am currently, connected to the net via a satellite modem, I figured that some software downloaded for that might be causing a problem so I connected the modem to my ibook (G3) and am getting the same problem. The iBook is running OS 10.4. which does not allow me to configure the IPv4 automatically so I tried setting it manually with no success.
Also, I was wondering why Qwest tells me to select connection PPPoA, not PPPoE. When I tried to set up the PPPoE, with their settings, that did not work either. My neighbor has a Mac and Qwest so I am not sure what the problem is.
    Can anyone help???

I was finally able to connect with my laptop to the new DSL modem. This modem has 4 ethernet ports and they said that I should be able to attach my desktop computer using another internet cable. When I did that, all of my browsers give me a "cannot connect to the www. server" message. Is there a setting that needs to be changed on that computer somewhere?
I CAN connect to the modem 192.168.0.1 but it will not go "outside" of that address.
    Any suggestions???

  • D-Link 562M modem does not works in Solaris 10 (?)

Not supported yet but will be in a future Solaris Express release. Many USB modems are not really modems but the entire signal processing is done by the host computer. Such "winmodems" require signal processing software which is quite complex. I do not think that such modems are supported in the following versions of Solaris.
If the 562M is NOT such a modem (but a "real" one) it should be quite easy to adapt a driver to work with this modem.

  • WRT-54GL: DSL Modem won't work in Internet port, but works in other ethernet ports. Help?

To begin, IP addresses for ALL devices on my network are static and manually assigned, no DHCP, in case that matters at all. My problem is that when I plug my DSL modem into the Internet port on the back of my router it doesn't even see the modem and obviously I can't get on the internet. However, I can plug the modem into any of the other Ethernet ports on the router and it sees the modem just fine and I can use the internet. I don't quite understand this. It hasn't caused any problems at all, but I find it strange. This problem has existed with both the stock firmware as well as Tomato firmware. What can I do to get my modem to work through the Internet port instead of the regular ethernet ports? Please take into consideration that I am using the latest Tomato firmware. Thanks all!

Press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. The Power light will start flashing. Turn the Router and the Modem OFF. Turn the modem ON first, wait for 10 seconds, turn the router ON, wait for 10 seconds, you should be ONLINE !!!

  • Condition on CKF (based on replacement type formula Variable) not working

    Hello Friends,
We have a reporting requirement where in we want to find out vendors who are being paid with the multiple currancies. For this I have created a replacemnent path formula variable with reference to currancy and created a CKF with the help of this variable.
Now as I want to display only multiple currancies I want a condition to display value > 1 on this CKF but
this condition is not working as the replacement path variable contains value 1 for every currancy passed to it although it shows in the report for 2 currancies value as 2.
Can anyone guide us in this matter?
    Thanks,

Hi to all, I have just joined the forum to take some help from u people. I have a G510, on which i have just upgraded the OS from windows 8.1 to 10. After upgrading, some issues came like hdmi cable not working, external hard disk not detecting, etc., which with installation of drivers from lenovo website just went away. But still there is a problem of not connecting of my iball airway 21.0 Mp-58 3g usb modem with the lappy. The message coming while installation is "633The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly".  I have written to iball customer care for providing supporting driver for windows 10, but apart from them, if anybody else knows the way out, kindly share that to me. Thanks and regardsVirendra

Hey Dhelios and welcome to the forum -

Mac OS | Mac OSX 10.1-10.3 | Mac OSX 10.4
The ST-330 and ST-USB driver requires BSD support from Mac OSX.
Be sure to enable BSD support during the installation of Mac OSX!!
NOTE: The ST-330 and ST-USB driver does not support Intel based Apple Macs. For Intel based Macs we recommend using an Ethernet modem/router. A list of compatible ST-500 and ST-700 series products is available online here>

I just bought a airport wireless route and I have a time warner modem. My problem is my modem is not connecting to my apple airport router. What do I need to do?

Power cycle the cable modem.. you may try leaving it off 5min.. might be enough.. sometimes you need 15min or even longer.. Followed by power cycle of the AE.
Nothing else should be connected to the modem.. except the router that will get the public IP as they only hand out ONE>

  • Faxing through the dsl modem and not a internal modem

I use to fax things with the internal modem a few years back. Anyway to do this through the dsl modem now? I don't see a graphic for the modem to click on but the old internal modem icon is still on screen.
    Thanks
    Tony B.

Unless you have converted to digital VoIP type of phone line, there is no reason that you can't fax on the same phone line as you have your DSL on. You just can't use the DSL modem as the fax modem.
Some DSL modems have a "line" and "tel" jack -- plug the "line" jack to the wall and plug the "tel" jack to your fax. Got a phone plugged into the "tel" jack? Put a "Y" splitter on the fax and telephone and plug the splitter into the "tel" jack.
Some DSL modems only have one single RJ-11 jack. But they provide DSL splitter filters -- one non-line side is filtered for fax and phone, the other is unfiltered for DSL. Run the filtered side to your fax or separate Radio Shack Y-splitter to your fax and phone.
Some DSL modems with the single RJ-11 jack don't provide the "Y" splitter filtered/unfiltered thingy, and instead only provide single in-line DSL filters (one RJ-11 input and one RJ-11 output). Buy a Radio Shack "Y" splitter, run one output to the DSL, run the other output to the in-line DSL filter and on to the fax or second Y splitter then on to the fax and phone.
You just can't use the DSL modem as a fax modem; you still need to use the built-in fax modem of your computer, or Apple external USB modem or equivalent if you don't have an internal fax modem, in order to fax.
