Replacement for defective iMac G5

I've been offered a replacement for my Rev B iMac G5, after it was unsucessfully reapaired three times in its warranty for the same problem (inverter replaced once and logic board replaced twice for a video issue). Will I receive another iMac G5 or an Intel model?
Thanks.
iMac G5 Rev B   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iMac G5, PowerBook G4

I have been told by the sales dept. that it will indeed be an Intel model!
The Apple people who misinformed me were not speaking from experience or knowledge obviously, just assuming I would get, in their words, a "like for like" machine. Being the first ones to take my calls, it's safe to assume they're not specialists. I'll come here next time!

Anyway, can anyone help me by telling me what the best application is to use MSN messenger. I know iChat isn't compatible, and i downloaded Microsoft messenger for mac, but its not great and doesn't let me use the eyesight.
    All suggestions very welcome!

Adium does not support webcams, but I do believe it is on the developer's list of things to add to the program, probably based on many user requests.
Or set up a free Yahoo! account, and download the Yahoo! Messenger for Mac (which is great for webcams, and that is what I use with a SonyDV cam).
The other option (if you must use MSN service) is to boot in Windows on your Mac and use the XP version of MSN.

  • Replacement for defective cable? (phone bought from other country)

My Iphone5 lightning cable stopped charging. (It used to be able to charge from the same PC).
I bought the phone in Singapore from an authorised dealer. Can I get a replacement cable from Apple Store in UK? What do I need to bring?

Probably not ,the warranty is NOT international and valid only in the country of

However it is always worth trying an Apple Store Genius bar
Expect a rejection but you might get lucky as it is
    only a cable
,however a new cable is ony £15 .......................might be cheaper than travel

  • What is Apple doing for those iMac owners who failed to have their Seagate HD replaced by April 12, 2013?

What is Apple doing for those iMac owners who failed to have their Seagate HD replaced by April 12, 2013?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you purchased the iMac less than 3 years ago and it has got one of the defective hard disks, Apple will still replace it for free. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller. A Genius will check if your Mac was purchased less than 3 years ago.
If the computer is older, you will have to pay. Note that if you already have the iMac on April 12th, 2013 and before, and you knew that your iMac had a defective hard disk, you should have taken it even if the hard drive was working correctly

    Imac 27".
i do not like the idea of repairing every month.
Feel the imacs supplied to India are sub standard ones

Folks have reported that the Apple policy is three major component failures and the Mac is replaced. For the first two the Mac is repaired. Apple would not risk alienating its customers from one of the most populated nations in the world, so its time to stop the "discriminating against the poor Indians and selling us sub-standard Macs" routine. Occasionally the universe aligns just right for there to be a Mac lemon. Folks in every country have experienced lemons. It is the hazard of manufacturing millions of Macs with even more millions of parts, all produced by different parts suppliers. And it is why the manufacturer's warranty exists.
Speak to the vender about a replacement. If necessary call Apple Care and request that your warranty service call be escalated to Customer Relations. Politely, but firmly, explain the situation and stand your ground that the solution to make you a happy customer is to have the Mac replaced. Don't make threats, mention lawyers or claim that Apple discriminates against Indians. If you do, you will have lost your case and Apple will then work with you from a distance and follow it policies and procedures to the letter, regardless of whether it makes you happy.

    Dear joe
I am sure, for giving free of cost, you should be having different document types like sale order for free goods, billing with no value.  So thru VF05, by selecting the billing document type, you can generate a report.
    thanks

  • Does anyone know where I can get a replacement keyboard for my imac G5 power PC purchased in December 2005

Does anyone know where in the UK or Ireland I can get a replacement keyboard for my imac G5 power PC purchased in December 2005. Running Mac OSX 10.4.1.1?

Not sure where in Ireland to look, but be aware that SOME Apple Aluminum boards will work with 10.4.11. The first Al boards and those through the first few months of 2011 were compatible with any Mac running OS 10.4.11 and having USB ports. Then they changed them to require 10.6.8 for full function.
The ones compatible with 10.4.11 (MB110LL/A) have the icon for Dashboard on the F4 key; the later ones (MB110LL/B) have an icon consisting of six tiny rectangles grouped to form a larger rectangle. The keyboard boxes are nearly identical except for:
the system requirements printed on the front panel
the back panel on the first model reads "Keyboard" where the newer model reads "Keyboard with Numeric Keypad."
When looking for older parts, always consider a Mac User Group:

  • Can a LCD screen for a iMac G5 can be replace?

Can a LCD screen for a iMac G5 can be replace?

Thanks for the reply.  Soon after I posted, I found that solution.  However, the Airplay feature is not on my IMac.
I am very disappointed with the Sales and Service at the local Mac Store.  I was very clear about how I intended to use my network of computers and devices when I purchased the package.  It took two visits to the Support desk for someone to provide me with the Apple TV component.  And now I find that I don't have the Airplay feature on my IMac.

  • I could not get my iPhone 5 which purchased in Australia repaired by apple in the US. Guys from apple retail store verified a replacement for me and asked to call apple care. However, apple care said they cannot get it fixed nor repaired.

My iPhone 5 got some defects and I went to a apple reatil store yesterday. The guy from the genius bar told me that he verified a replacement for me. And I need to call 1-800-apple care to finish that process. I called apple care and one of the senior supervisors told me that I have to send it back to Australia (where I bought this iPhone) to get it repaired. Turns out I could not solve the problem after a apple store vist and several calls. I just want to know if there any way to solve this. This iPhone is a factory unlocked one that purchased in an apple retail store in Melbourne at the day it was first released. And my experience today is not what I can tell as fair. I will be really appreciate for any helps and advices. Thanks.

Warranty on iPhone is not international, but valid only in country of
original sale. Since you purchased the iPhone in Australia, your warranty
is valid only in Australia. You must either personally return the iPhone
to Australia for evaluation and possible replacement or sent it to someone
in Australia to take into Apple for the evaluation. Apple will not accept
international shipments for repair nor will Apple ship out of the country
    after replacement.
Sorry to be the bearer of this news, but it is the way iPhone warranty and
    replacement has always worked.

    Hi,
Here's the Bottom Case Replacement Link
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook-bottomcase/
It doesn't answer your specific questions about cost... but it does advise to contact an Apple Store or an AASP...
Anyway have a look at it... if you haven't already..
    Cheers and Good Luck...

  • What to do next with my defective iMac problem?

I've had numerous 27" iMac replacements and now it seems as if I'm SOL. I've had to have quite a few iMac replacements for my 27" for a bad airport card, non functional bluetooth, cosmetic damage (imac had giant scratches on the front of it) and bad backlight bleeding. I've been on the phone with Apple and Applecare for these issues more than I would ever care to be on the phone with Apple for, diagnosing the DOA models took the longest.
Anyhow I emailed Tim Cook, which got sent over to the Executive Relations team. They handled my newest iMac, which was the one with the wifi problem. Was on the phone with Applecare for around 2 hours trying to fix that. Well they don't want to send me another replacement, won't send me another replacement. Told me if I wanted to I could get it repaired, I said what was the difference. And I kept getting excuse after excuse. So after calling Applecare again they decided to issue me a replacement. The replacement was supposed to arrive on Monday. Well, it didn't arrive. I called FedEx and they said Apple called to have it returned to them. So the guy who was handling my case had my iMac sent back to Apple because I wasn't supposed to get a replacement. That disgusts me, the iMac was no more than 15 miles from my house. Oh not only that but after he called me on the phone to tell me how furious he was because I "went behind his back" to get an iMac replacement, I am no longer allowed to shop at the Apple online retail store. I'm banned.
This is the biggest load of crap I've ever had to deal with. I think for $2500, I should have a computer that works properly. I do not know who else to contact because when I call the online store I'm directed back to Executive Relations. And when I talk to the guy handling my case at Executive Relations, I ask if I can speak to someone else or his superior. He tells me I am only allowed to talk to him. I call BS. Most people at Executive Relations are just kids... well mid 20's.
At this point I no longer wish to own an Apple product and they don't seem to care. I guess me buying 12-13 computers, 4 ipads, 7 iphones, and 5 iPods (family) over the years doesn't mean anything.
This is probably in the wrong section, I don't know where else to post it. If anyone has any idea how to help, please let me know.

This certainly not the place to post, and not the kind of post the forums are meant to receive, understandable as your chargrin is.
The time scale is not clear either.   As you will know, up to 14 days allows for a no quibble new replacement so following your post I get the feeling you are outside of this no quibble return option ... yet the giant scratches on the front are grounds in themselves and should have been obvious from day one.
In Europe, there are consumer laws to ensure suppliers support their products and offer a cheap and quick route to a legal procedure.   What you have where you are located may be your only recourse but I still feel uncomfortable about the time scale in advising this.

  • What brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" internal Hard Drive?

what brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" aluminium internal Hard Drive?
can I use WD caviar black?
    is it too hot?

If you are replacing the drive because the existing one is faulty, that's one thing. If you just want more space, you should take advantage of having a decently fast and relatively small capacity drive in there now (instead of a huge drive). Get an external FireWire drive and off-load most of your user data there. Make your internal drive dedicated to mostly your OS and app files, with plenty of free space. That setup will make your iMac run more efficiently. I won't go into more detail, because I'm not answered your specific question... You can post back with any questions, if interested...
    To answer your questions...
You should be able to use any SATA 3.5-inch drive internally, but you should probably keep it at or under 1TB. The main concerns are power usage and heat dissipation. A drive like the WD Caviar Green would be ideal in terms of power and heat, but they do have slower (or variable) spin rate. I have one as an external drive (750GB) and it is amazingly quiet and cool. If I had to replace the internal drive because the current drive failed, I'd put it inside. I'll trade a bit of pure performance for the efficiency (including low noise), and these drives are more advanced with higher data density and larger cache, so the trade-off from slower spin rate may not be so bad.
You can check your current drive's model number (which is shown in System Profiler) to get the specs online. The stock drive in my old +Late 2006+ iMac is a 7200 RPM drive. The Caviar Black is a 7200 RPM drive, with a newer design. So if you want to use a Caviar Black in there, I think it would be OK.

  • What is the best and reasonably priced external cd/dvd optical drive for an Imac 21.5 inches from late 2009?

What is the best and reasonably priced external cd/dvd optical drive for an Imac 21.5 inches from late 2009?

A lot of people have a Mac where the superdrive has been taken out to be replaced with a harddisk. Try to find a friend who has done that, give him a beer and take the superdrive, then buy a superdrive container from OWC or another for  afew dollars and put it in there. This slimdrive container has a USB connector. There you go.

  • Is there a modern replacement for the Nvidia 8800GS?

Like other imac users my imac 24" (2008) Nvidia 8800GS graphics card has just stopped working, I'm wondering if there is a modern replacement for this card rather than buying a (expensive) reconditioned one?

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1440627
There is a lot of conflicting data on whether the graphics card in the imac is replaceable. This stems from the fact that many of the older generation imacs have the GPU soldered to the logic board. This is NOT the case with the 2008 24 inch that has the card mentioned above. It is very difficult to get to. But with planning, patience and care, it can be replaced.
