Replacement from Apple unlocked or not?

Lat year i had my iphone replaced under warranty, and didn't think much about it, until I was planning a trip overseas which I am currently on.
I had tried using the unlock form on Vodafones website, which told me that the device wasn't in their database, which I took to mean that the phone was already unlocked straight from apple.
I arrived overseas and bought a prepaid sim card, inserted it and got an "Invalid SIM" error, which I have found usually means that the device is still locked to a network...
should the iphone i received from apple be unlocked? or it is a problem with the sim card? I have noticed that the chip has a different pattern of contacts, and am unsure if that may be the problem also?

No, what that really means is that Vodafone has no record of that particular phone being registered to you on their network. Carriers/providers will only unlock phones for customers on their networks.

Depends, if your original phone was officially unlocked, yes. If your original phone was not officially unlocked, no. So, was your original phone officially unlocked?

When you restore one device from a backup of another device, keychain items like passwords are not restored unless you used an encrypted backup.
Try logging into the two apps. Next I would try deleting the apps and redownload resetup the apps.

How many times have i to replace my iphone..Has Apple not thought of solving the wifi issues from the core. I have heard many users are having this problem. Why hasn't Apple taken any step to improve and solve this issue. After buying such a high end product, this is what u get??? When you get to the States, if you will be in an area with an Apple store for a couple days, call and ask about reserving an unlocked iPhone, it takes a couple days to get it in the store from what I understand.
The current MBP 15" models are 2.2 and 2.4 GHz i7 machines. There is a 17" with 2.5 GHz i7.
The difference, in addition to the slightly faster cpu, is:
2.2 GHz - Radeon HD 6750 M with 512 MB VRAM
2.4 GHz - Radeon HD 6770 M with 1 GB VRAM
Both have the same hard drive, 750 GB 5400 rpm, both have the same primary graphics - Intel 3000.
So the difference is in the discrete grapics processor, important for heavy video work, heavy gaming...but will drain the battery a lot faster.

You can't have content in iCloud without having it on your phone, you will need to look at deleting items from your device that you don't need. Movies and TV shows from iTunes are possibly a good start because they tend to be large and can be redownloaded at a later date.

IPhone 5 Factory Unlocked 3rd Party Replacement from Apple

Hi,
I bought an iPhone 5 from Rogers Factory unlocked to make it work with all carriers from a third party vendor. Now I have an issue with a power button, if I retun it to apple will they give me a replacement phone as a Rogers unit or a Factory unlocked unit. Please let me know because this unlock costed me $150 I don't want to unlock another iPhone if apple give me a replaceent as a Rogers phone.

If the power button issue is a hardware issue, the only option from Apple is to replace it. Apple does not perform hardware repairs to any iOS device (never has done so) - they replace defective devices instead (and send the turned in one back to Foxconn in China for refurbishment or recycling).
Apple's strict policy is also to replace a defective iPhone with an exact duplicate one - so if your phone was purchased locked to Rogers, and you did NOT get it unlocked by Rogers, then you will get a Rogers locked iPhone in exchange.
There is no such thing as a legitimate 3rd party unlocking - only the carrier an iPhone is sold locked to has the authority to officially unlock it. Anybody else offering "unlocking" services is hacking the firmware, and such activity is not recognized by Apple when replacing defective phones.

Apple supplied me with new phone but it is locked - do apple need to unlock please? I have contacted my provider (EE) who I am leaving but they have said as apple gave me a replacement phone they don't need to unlock as they didn't supply and that it should have been supplied unlocked - I have changed providers as had lots of problems with EE and when I put the o2 sim in it says it is locked? Usually unlocking the phone is done by the provider, who informs Apple to update their data, that this certain phone can be unlocked through iTunes.
If your original phone has been unlocked by the carrier before, he has to notify Apple that your replacement should be unlocked as well.
If you contacted Apple Support to replace the phone? I had to replace mine once and got an email from Apple stating the IMEI and serial number of my old phone and the ones from the new replacement, so that I could pass this info on to my carrier, to get the new device unlocked as well.

Official Apple Unlocked iPhone, not supported by Apple

Whilst I was travelling in South East Asia, I needed to purchase a new phone.
I found a supplier of iPhones in Thailand that sold me an Official Apple Unlocked iPhone, it turned out to be an Italian iPhone, again an official Apple one.
I needed an unlocked phone that I could use in many different countries, using local SIM cards.
I have been very happy with the phone, it needed updating to v2 and this did not cause any problems.
I was just speaking with AppleCare about an unrelated issue. at the end of the conversation I mentioned that the only thing about the iPhone that was disappointing about the iPhone was the volume of the speaker phone. The agent took the serial number of the iPhone and put me through to iPhone support.
The iPhone agent then took the serial number again and told me that I had an Italian iPhone, because it was bought in Thailand, support was only available through Thailand, she also told me that using a SIM card other than that of an official carrier voided the warranty.
All this seems a bit restrictive, for people in my position, to buy an Official Apple product and then be denied support defeats the object of sourcing an unlocked product in the first place. I can understand why Apple refuse to support iPhones that are unofficially unlocked, but to deny support for an official product seems grossly unfair.
Anyone else had problems getting Apple to support their own products, any ideas how this situation can be resolved?

Apple clearly states that an iPhone is supported only in the country in which is was officially distributed. If you purchased an Italian-distributed iPhone in Thailand, it was imported and sold against Apple's terms and contracts and so you may indeed have problems getting it serviced since it will not show as being sold in the correct country. Using a SIM from another carrier is also unsupported. The only places in Thailand where can purchase an iPhone that will be supported by Apple in that country are True Move stores or Apple Premium Resellers. See:

At this point you're probably stuck since you have an unofficially-sold iPhone. Your best route will be to sell your current iPhone and purchase one from an official dealer in your country of residence. Do not buy one in any other country (unless you'll be in that country for months or years), whether it's unlocked or carrier-locked, or you'll have the same problem.

When getting a warranty replacement from apple can you upgrade to the new model?

When you take your phone in to apple, and get them to replace it with another phone is it always a like for like replacement or can you upgrade and pay extra for a newer model upgrade?

Roaminggnome seems to know for sure, but it sure doesn't hurt to turn on the sugar and ask. I would just say that you had been seriously considering upgrading to the 5, and then you had this problem (I think you'll be in a better position if the problem is something original to the phone, and not a 'user misuse/damage' and if you're still under warranty somehow). I mean, you have the top model 4s, a nice amount of GB, depending on the problem, they can still refurb it and make a decent amount on it, I've purchased refurb products on Apple's site, and they are still not cheap!
I don't know if they will or not, but it certainly cannot hurt. Just say you were really looking to upgrade and were upset when you had problem xx, before you could use it to upgrade or sell it. Be super, super nice, and just say like, 'Are there any upgrade options rather than just getting a new 4S or refurb (I think that's what they'll send you, but it's all but a brand new phone. That's not a terrible thing.) If you wouldn't mind, offer to buy a 5 refurb. My iTouch refurb, bought from Apple, came pretty much exactly the same as a new one, the outer components are all brand new, they have the cords/earbuds, all that...the only difference was mine came in a different box....but my original box had John Lennon in it, so that might have been a special deal? IDK
I've gotten ppl to do some 'out of the box' things they don't normally do, just by being crazy nice, and super accommodating, easy, and flexible. It surely cannot hurt to try, good luck and let me know if it works, so I can try when I return my Mini!!

Internet radio from Apple TV suddenly not working!!! Please help!

I used to be able to put internet radio stations in a playlist and sync to ATV, and they would show up on the ATV and I could select and listen to them! From what I've read on some other forums, after version 2.02 came out, you could even do that and not have your computer on and itunes open, and could still access and listen to the radio stations on ATV! Which is great!
I hadn't tried this in a while and decided to get the 2.02 update and try. Now, when I select the playlist with the radio stations in it (on ATV) I get a message - "contains no songs"!!
Does anybody know what is going on with this feature? It seems to work for some people but not others! Some think that it stopped working for people with itunes 7.6.1 and higher!! (I have 7.6.2 and OSX 10.4.11)
Just when I had a plan on really taking advantage of this feature, it stopped working!
Can anybody help with this topic? Do people from Apple read and answer these posts?

And in addition, playing the internet radio from my ATV (rather than from computer & thru airtunes) seems to work better! Before, (using airtunes), some stations would cut out / skip etc... and it doesn't seem to happen now! And I can now, not even have my computer on!
My understanding is that if I ever turn off the ATV, I'll have to do the procedure that you said again correct?
