Replacement HotSync cable problems?

I've been syncing for years with the USB cradle and USB HotSync cable that came with my C.
I had to replace the cable as it took a hit and the plastic at the Palm end shattered.
So far I've purchased two different USB/charge HotSync cables for the C from two different vendors and neither will work for a HotSync.
Though they both work to charge the C and Card Export works over both of them.
And, yes, I can unplug the new cable, plug in the old cable or the cradle, and HotSync still works fine with them.
The only difference I can find is that with the new cables I have to start the HotSync with the app on the Palm, instead of the hard button on the original cable and cradle. The HotSync app opens, it tries to sync, then errors out saying:
The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.
Though I can connect the old cable or cradle and the HotSync app works fine.
What am I missing?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you formatted the replacement iPod with the iPod Updater? iPods come back from Apple formatted for the Mac and must be prepared for Windows use.
If you haven't done this yet, this is the reason iTunes doesn't recognize it.

    Thank you for your response.
I had rebooted the router (several times, actually), to no avail.
I do not know the answer to whether MAC filtering is enabled on the router.  Have tried to find info about that, but unsuccessfully.  Router is an Arris TG852G, supplied by Comcast.  I would be surprised if MAC filtering were the issue, since in addition to the computer, we have successfully connected several other devices to the wifi, namely an iPad, a Android phone and a Kindle Fire - all able to access internet pages through the wifi, and all without a need to add the device to a MAC address whitelist.  To add to the mystery, the Comcast tech was able to connect his iPhone 4 to my network and access web pages.  He was unable to connect my iPhone, however, after trying for some time.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that an iPhone cannot connect to a wireless "n" router, only "b" or "g".  The Arris router is described as a n/g/b compliant router, and as noted the Comcast tech was able to connect his iPhone, so don't know why that would be the issue here.
By the way, my iPhone does connect wirelessly to my network at home.  This difficulty is at a second home.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

  • 2010 Macbook Pro no longer recognizes drive, tried replacing HD+cable

    Hello,
About a week ago during user sign-in my 2010 13" Macbook Pro froze. I forced restarted. Upon restart, I got the dreaded screen with the question mark folder. I did the usual, booted from the install CD. Installer couldn't locate drive to install to. Nor could disk utlity to repair anything. I suspected HD failure, so I replaced the drive with one I had on hand. The new HD was still not recognized by the system. I did put the old original drive back in, just to test it, and it actually did boot 1 time, but froze almost immediately. I put the drive in an external SATA enclosure and booted from USB. Booted fine, pulled off all my files, etc. So I then replaced the SATA cable. After replacing it, the computer did recognize the drive, but only if I held Option and told it to boot from the internal HD. Now I'm not getting the question-mark folder (unless I don't do the Option-select drive, in which case, if I do a normal power-button boot, I stlll get the question-mark folder), but instead, after selecting the drive, I'm getting a grey-screen with crossed-out circle (kernal panic?).
Everything else seems to be working fine. I took it to an Apple Store, he ran a diagnostic on it, and all he could tell me was that the HD isn't being recognized. Is my motherboard or SATA port on the motherboard shot or something? If the MoBo shot, why would we go from not seeing the drive at all (hence the question-mark folder and it not being recognized under any situation), to me replacing the SATA cable and getting the supposed kernal panic symbol.
    Any thoughts?

At the Apple Store, all I was told was that the computer was not recognizing the HD. No more than that. He told me a HD replacement would be upwards of $200. I took it to the Apple Store before I tried to do anthing myself. He suggested that it could either be the HD itself, or the cable. So, seeing as a HD replacment isn't brain surgery, and that I could do it for significantly less than $200, I did it myself. So I replaced the HD, that did nothing. After replacing the HD the computer would still not recognize its existence, under any circumstance. I tried Option, resetting PRAM, booting into recovery, booting from the install disk, launching disk utility, running the hardware diagnostic from the CD ... under all cases, the HD was not recognized. Seeing as it still wasn't recognized even with the new drive,  I replaced the SATA cable. Again, as stated in my description above, replacing the cable only changed the problem from not recognizing the HD at all, to recognizing it now (when, and only when I hold Option) and booting to the crossed-out circle screen. It doesn't even recognize it every time I hold Option to launch the StartUp Manager. Only a few times out of 10 will it even recognize its there. I also tried, once again, doing all the usual - resetting PRAM, CD install, recover, disk utility, etc... and none of those ever recognize its there. Its only the rare case that it will recognize the new-drive and new-cable configuration in the StartUp manager, I select the drive, and it boots only to the crossed-out circle grey screen.
I have put the original drive in an external SATA enclosure and the computer will boot from it and works fine, except as would be expected, its incredibly slow because its running through a USB port instead of a SATA connection.

  • Centro & "Loose" Hotsync Cable

    Hello all,
I am new to the forum and recently purchased a Centro (around 30 days ago).
I have been spending a lot of time traveling and while away from home have been using the Hotsync cable to charge my phone at night.
When I first got the phone the connection was very very tight but in the last week I found that my phone had not charged one night because the right clip was not actually "clipping" into the phone securely. I've inspected the "hole" in the phone and tried a second hotsync cable with the same results. It all looks right but simply doesn't clip into place.
I expected the fit to loosen up over time but am wondering if this is a known issue with the Centros or if my particular phone had some variance in that area that is making it more difficult for the right clip to do it's thing in this phone.
If I lay the phone down carefully after plugging it in, it's fine but it seems kind of worrisome.
    Thanks,
    John

That is possible, I checked a cable here and your friend has a newer one it would seem. If you are still within your one year warranty you can call us(Palm) at 877-426-3777 and get a replacement cable. If you are not I would recommend going here:

  • Replace LCD cable? 3000 N100

    Hi Experts,
I'm quite sure that the cable itself is brittle  or the connetion to the board has a slack joint.
To replace the cable at the display is no problem - but at the board  ??????
Any hint, also where to purchase it?
    Thanks
    Johann

Check this Lenovo manual which has instructions for removing and replacing parts and also lists the parts by model.
    ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/42x3553_02.pdf
See the section on LCD FRUs.
The book indicates that all of the LCD parts are to be replaced by trained service technicians.
Here is video with great instructions on replacing an LCD. It is not specific to Lenovo, but in combination with the Lenovo docs may be sufficient.

  • Replacement power cables

where can i go or whom do i call to get a replacement power cable for 2410 all in one printer also i need the software to network it w/ my computer

Do you need the power cord or the power module?  Is this the PSC 2410?  If it is the power cord you could find a replacement at many electronics or computer stores, it is a standard.  See HP's Partsurfer site for details.

  • Inverter Cable problems

Hi, I have a 13 inch Macbook and recently the display has gone black at random intervals, and getting the display back up has become more and more difficult. I cracked it open and no damage was visible. I want to replace the parts I believe are malfunctioning. My understanding is the parts involved are:
    -inverter cable
    -inverter board
    -video cord (possibly)
Now, I want to replace the cable and the board, but I'm not sure if I need to buy a new display screen as well. Any thoughts, suggestions?

I'm experiencing the same problems, my friend.
Have you gotten the chance to try different displays on it, if it's the backlight or not? Exchanged the inverter board? (if you can?) Changed the graphics card? (These can be both cheap and expensive, I have a good suggestion: Ebay and amazon)
Have you also tried a light 'tap' or 'knock' on the display panel (between the machine and the display)?
And just out of curiousity, have you ever bent your MacBook or dropped by accident? These could cause the problems as well.
If it was never dropped or such, this may be just signs of it getting old and needing to be replaced.
I don't want to bump, but I hope this helps!

  • My iPhone 4 is no longer recognised by my laptop, and no longer registers being plugged in to charge, even though it will charge slowly if plugged in and turned off. It's not a cable problem or a computer problem, as I've checked these.

Hey, over the past couple of days my iPhone 4 (GMS, Model A1332, EMC 380B - running on iOS 7.1.2) has begun inexplicably intermittently not recognizing being plugged in to charge or being connected to my laptop. As of today, it has complete stopped recognizing being plugged in to charge or connected to the laptop.
If I plug it in to charge, whilst it is on, nothing happens and the battery drains.
If I plug it in to charge and turn in off, it will charge very very slowly - though it will charge fully after a long time.
When I connect it to my laptop, nothing happens - it doesn't appear in iTunes, and it doesn't charge or recognize being connected to the laptop (there is no charging symbol, no noise from either phone or computer registering the connection as it usual did, or another sign of any connection between the devices, though, again, it will charge very slowly if turned off).
I've ruled out the possibility of it being a cable problem, by using a friend's cable and finding that didn't allow it to recognize being plugged into the wall to be charged either, or being plugged into the computer.
My friend's cable does work on their own iPhone (ie, when plugged into the wall with their cable, their iPhone acknowledges this and charges properly, and when plugged into my computer with their cable both my computer and their iPhone recognize the connection).
So, it's definitely a problem with my iPhone itself, but I don't know what.
As I say, it will charge very slowly, if it's switched off whilst it's plugged in, but it won't acknowledge being plugged in, and will only drain if it is turned on whilst being plugged in - and it will not recognize being connect to my computer.
Please help me figure out what is wrong with it, as this is beyond annoying and I'm literally banging my head against the wall - the iPhone is little over a year old.
    Cheers.

  • Replacement IDE cables for X-Fi Plati

    Hello,
This sounds a little silly but while building a new computer I was removing the IDE cable from the I/O box from the PCI card and accidentally torn the ribbon off from the end connectors. Now I'm not sure if this is due to a faulty manufacturing on the ribbon (this never happens to me with regular IDE cables for hard dri'ves) or what, but I can't seem to find a replacement IDE cables anywhere.
I've tried my local best buy, fry's, PC Club, compusa, but none of them have the IDE cables that would fit with the one that came with the Creative X-Fi Platinum.
Does anyone know any online or retail stores that might sell these IDE ribbon cables? Are there any rounded cable versions of these? (for better airflow)
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

That is not a IDE cable, it's specialized for the X-fi. You'll need to contact Customer Support for a replacement.

  • Thunderbolt display video died-Cable problem??

My TD (paired with a Retina) video seems to have lost its video.  Audio working fine.  Could this be a cable problem?

I can confirm that the Thunderbolt Display will work when plugged in to the 2011 MacBook Pro 15" and a 2011 Mac Mini Server connected via Apple's Thunderbolt cable.  When both systems are connected to the monitor, the display will always prefer the system connected to its display port,  when it sleeps or is powered down, the other system detects the available display and connects to it automatically.  I can't imagine a more ideal sinerio!

  • AT200 - need a Replacement Proprietary cable

    Hi All
Please help I need a Replacement Proprietary cable for my AT200, Ive lost the orginal I know stupid and know I need to replace the stupid uncommon lead what was Toshiba thinking with adding the port as a means of charging.
Also I cant seem to install any Toshiba software updates via usb.
Ive checked the offical UK Tohisba site and it mentions reseallers etc but cant find one in stock anywhere, and If I do come across one am shocked at how expensive they are please help.
I searched most of the web and I think am going to have to ring Toshiba direct but cant justify to spend 35-40 on a lead.
Ive tried charging via a 2Amp mains charger via micro Usb lead but this is too slow, even thou the mains charger outputs 2amps am not sure the micro usb lead or the port on the AT200 allows anything above 1amp if even that.
    Thanks

    Hi
I think the AT200 compatible AC adaptor (AC ADAPTOR (UK) 2PIN 10W 2A) has a part number: A200000340. The compatible USB cable has a part number: A200000140
I think the ASP available in your country could provide all these parts

  • Solaris 8 says: "Link down, Cable Problem?"

I have these on my home LAN:
    1. Sun Ultra 5 Solaris 8
    2. Win 2000 PC
    3. Win NT laptop
They are all hooked into a LinkSys Router.
The Router is hooked into my Motorala Cable Modem.
    Here's the problem:
The PC and the laptop can see each other on the LAN.
The Solaris 8 is only visible on the Lan INTERMITTENTLY.
The lights on the Router for the PC and laptop are always ON.
When I reboot the Solaris box, the lights on the Router sometimes come ON, and sometimes they stay OFF. When they stay OFF, I see the message: "Link down, Cable Problem?" during reboot.
I have tried different cables, and tried various combinations of the 4 avalable ports on the back of my Router.
If I plug in the Sun box DIRECTLY into my cable modem, then I don't see the above message. (but then I don't have a LAN anymore)
Please help, I've been struggling with this for a while now.
    Thanks,
Irshad Ahmed (I am relatively new to Sun)

    Hi
You have not indicated if you have the router ethernet ports working
at 100Mbps or 10Mbps. Depending on this sometimes, Sun systems may
not be correctly auto-negotiating their ethernet port settings.
You may set these parameters to force Sun Ultra 5 to a 100Mbps mode or a 10Mbps mode.
For forcing it to 100Mbps, Full Duplex mode and disabling the auto-negotiation, put these entries in /etc/system:
    set hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_100T4_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap=1
    set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_10hdx_cap=0
Conversely, if you want to force your Sun to work on 10Mbps, Full
duplex mode, (if your router does not support 100Mbps) in the same
/etc/system file, put the following entries :
    set hme:hme_adv_autoneg_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_100T4_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_100fdx_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_100hdx_cap=0
    set hme:hme_adv_10fdx_cap=1
    set hme:hme_adv_10hdx_cap=0
One of these should solve your problem. You need to reboot the system
    after putting these entries.
You can also check the port at the OK prompt using the command
"watch-net". This test the onboard ethernet interface.
You may also apply the hme patch released by Sun that fixes many
known problems with hme ethernet driver. The patch id is 108981-03.

  • Hme0: Link Down - cable problem?

    i've a problem i've buyed an ultra 10 (used)
    i've reinstalled solaris 10 01/06
when it boot the o.s. it give this error message "hme0: Link Down - cable problem?"
    and network don't work.
i cannot ping my router but i've gave to my sun an ip of the same netmask (sun ip 192.168.1.88 router ip 192.168.1.1)
i've checked the cable and it's good (it work with a normal pc)
the led on the switch is on (it's green)
    maybe i need some patch
    how can i do?

    gio,
You didn't necesarily do anything wrong.
You do not necessarily have any broken equipment.
There may just be somthing that is incomplete in the setup.
Begin by checking if your network settings were set up correctly by running:
    <b># ifconfig -a</b>
(it's usually best to troubleshoot while you are root user)
If the output from the <i>ifconfig</i> command seem to be complete, you could always think about reconfiguring the NIC all over again.
If you are not sure, then just paste the entire output results back here.
Also, use the forum search function, using keyword <u>sys-unconfig</u>.
Next, read the Solaris man pages for sys-unconfig.
That command will force you to repeat the setup of the connection.
