Replacement install discs

Hi, I recently bought a macbook at quite a cheap price, but it didn't come with the install discs. I've found a few discs for sale with the same AHT version as my macbook. would they work on it? Or do you need more than just the same AHT version?
Thanks.

  • How do I replace install disc?

I can't boot up from the install discs and I'm pretty sure they are damaged. What is the easiest way to get replacements?

If you are going to try and obtain a startup/install disk from any source other than Apple themselves, it's imperative you make sure it is for the exact same model system that you have. For example, an installer from an original PPC mini will not work on a late 2006 model.
Apple resellers, service providers and Apple themselves will be able to supply the correct install disk for your system if you are in any doubt.

  • Replacing install discs for iMac G4

I have an iMac G4 but no install discs. How can I replace those discs, or otherwise restore the machine to an "as new" state?

All models of the iMac G4 have been placed on Apple's "obsolete" list which means that Apple has discontinued all hardware support for them. You can call Apple tech support and see if by luck they can still provide the original disk set, but it's probable that they can't. If that turns out to be the case, you'll need to either look to places such as eBay for a set, or find a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.4 or, if your iMac's processor is 867MHz or better, Mac OS X 10.5.

  • About the OSX Replacement Install disc...

    Hi,
Back in August 2010 I ordered replacement discs for my Mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro. One of the replacement discs was my OSX Install disc. It's white rather than gray and it only says OSX install Disc along with the 15" MacBook Pro banner. I was wondering if the replacement OSX install disc would work in the same way as the original OSX install disc. In other words if the installation process would be the same if I install OSX and if it includes the Windows Bootcamp drivers corresponding my MacBook Pro model just as the original OSX install disc do. The replacement disc has a slightly different part number the part number in the replacement disc is SRF2Z691-6690-A, while the original disc part number is 2Z691-6690-A.
    Thank You...

I am actually asking this because my original OSX disc has some scratches and I am not sure if the disc will be able to do another full reinstall (in other words OSX not being able to install and giving an installation error message) due to those scratches. In terms of those scratches they are very small and can only be seen in an angle with direct light hitting the OSX disc surface rather than from a top down view. What do you think? Should I keep using my original OSX disc until it becomes unusable?

  • How do I get a replacement install disc for my MacBook Pro?

My MacBook Pro was stolen last year and recently recovered by the police.  I was overjoyed until I found that the theif installed windows 7 onto to my computer.  I know I need to reformat my hardrive but I no longer have the system intalll disc that came with my computer.  Can I just buy a OS X disc from apple or do I need to get a specific disc MacBook disc for everything to work properly?

For software discs, there are two cases:
    a) came with 10.6. In this case order the replacement DVD from Apple.
    b) came with 10.7. In this case there may be no replacement discs. Start up with Command-R and install 10.7 from the Internet.
This varies slightly depending on EXACTLY which model you have.

  • Where can i get a replacement install disc

I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n and i have lost the installation disc, where can i buy a new one?

What do you need from that disc? Basically, it installed Airport Utility which should be part of your OS X installation. It is in the Utilities folder.
You can purchase a replacement from Apple Customer Support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.

  • OS X 'shutting down'...no install disc...workaround for disc utility?!

    Greetings,
Recently I have been getting complete system crashes (grey screen 'drops' over desktop and I have to restart) while simply streaming Quicktime video through Safari.
I need to run the Disc Utility but I cannot find my install disc. Can I clone my system to an external drive, boot up from that and then run Disc Utility on my original boot up drive? This as good as running it from the installation disc or am I better off getting a replacement install disc (is that even something Apple offers?).
    Any tips much appreciated.

    Hi.
"Can I clone my system to an external drive, boot up from that and then run Disc Utility on my original boot up drive?"
This is how I run Disc Utility and a bunch of other maintenance programmes. Running them from another drive is the same as from a cd (only faster) you will, however, clone any problems over to the new drive and there's no guarantee that Disc Utility can fix your problems
"am I better off getting a replacement install disc (is that even something Apple offers?)."
You don't need the original disc that came with your computer, you just need a copy of Tiger, which you can pick up anywhere.
Also, you could invest in Disk Warrior, which you can run from the cd, to repair your disc

  • I am selling my laptop w/out the OS install disc.  What things must i do...

Hello! I am selling my laptop but I lost the Mac OS install discs. Therefore, I would like to rid all of my personal stuff from the computer so that the new user will have a fresh new experience. Because I do not have the OS install discs, I do not want to just zero-out the hard drive because I have nothing to reinstall everything. Is there a feature that I can access that would allow me to reset the master account? I want to separate the link between my computer and my mobileme email, as well as anything else that can be traced back that I am cannot remember right now.
    Any other recommendations as well?

You can't transfer the license to Apple software to a new owner without including the original install discs. To do so is a violation of the license agreement; in other words piracy. Therefore you must delete ALL software from your Mac before selling it. Zero out the hard drive. Tell any potential buyers that no software or install discs are included.
I also recommend doing what nerowolfe suggests, try and obtain a set of replacement install discs from Apple before selling. The nominal cost of doing that should more than make up the difference between what you could sell the Mac for with no software included.

  • Replacement Software Discs - Replacement

    Good morning everyone
When renewing my home insurance today I found out that software is not covered and is difficult to obtain cover, so I have this question: If I have my serial numbers (i.e. recorded electronically and backed up) and say my house burns down, can I buy replacement install discs for a nominal fee. I know you can get replacement serial numbers with proof of purchase, but if my proof of purchase has been destroyed and all I have is the record of my serial numbers, where do I stand then?

I don't think there is an easy answer here; it will depend on the company which issued the software.
Assuming you registered the software, I would hope that the software companies would look kindly on your request provided you could provide proof of the calamity (such as an insurance claim for the computer the software was installed on).
Perhaps it is worth contacting a couple of the software companies to see what their polices are -- if they have any.

  • Obtaining a replacement 10.3 or 10.4 install disc for our iBook

Hi, my wife has an old iBook G3 and the hard drive recently died. I'm replacing it but we do not have the original discs that came with the computer. Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain a replacement OS install disc?
    Many Thanks!

Hi, Josh. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
To get a copy of the original system CDs, call Apple at 1-800-275-2273.
This will not include Mac OS X 10.3 nor Mac OS X 10.4, but an older version of Mac OS X. Which version of Mac OS X was on the original system CDs depends on which model iBook it is, but no iBook G3 came with these later versions of the OS.

  • Can I download a replacement 10.4 install disc?

I purchased 10.4 in April of 2005. I'm a registered user. My original install disc has become damaged. I need to reinstall Tiger, 10.4.0, and bring it up to 10.4.11, but my original install disc is trashed. Is there a way I can download 10.4.0 from apple.com? Surely there is a way I can enter my registration info and download a replacement. Does anyone know how I can do this?
    Thanks & Happy Holidays!

Call Apple Customer Relations and give them the relevant information about your disk and tell them the disk is damaged. They will replace the disk for a service fee.

  • I have a A1312 computer but not original install discs. Where can I get replacements

I have an A1312 Mac and I want to install a solid state hard drive. But I do not have the original install discs. My OSX10.9.2

You can boot that computer using the retail copy of Snow Leopard:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8.
Replacement DVDs usually cost about $50.00. This is a little cheaper. Maybe you can tell us exactly what your final goal is? For example, after you install the SSD what do you plan to do with the HDD? Do you have an external drive enclosure in which you could put your HDD to use while getting the new SSD set up? Or, do you plan to get an OWC DataDoubler in order to put your HDD in the space occupied by your optical drive?

I assume you mean Photoshop CS6 Extended

  • Replaced hard drive, now can't boot from install disc to restore backup

Yesterday, my hard drive died (disk warrior informed me, that HD had irrecoverable errors, and my iMac would shut down unless it was booted from the Disk Warriorr disc).
Today, I have a new internal HD professionally installed. And when I brought it home, and installed Snow I got an error at the end of the installation "OS could not be installed, restart or choose start up disk" or something to that effect. However, on licking OK I got the snow music, and welcome movie nd eerything seemed to be working fine.
I can log in normally and have get to my desktop, but on trying to boot from the Snow Leopard disk (10.6), I get to the gray screen with the apple logo and hang. I have tried resetting Pram/firmware and also ran the fdisk command (twice).
It seems too much of a concidence that my hard drive and now my disc drive would die all in span of two days? I can hear the disc noise, but as I mentioned I cant get beyond the gray screen on trying to boot from the disc.
    Suggestions?
Late Nov '07 intel iMac. And I did update the OS to 10.6.4. Install disc is 10.4.

Return it to the repair station.
