Buy a Refurbished iPad? The What, When, Why and How
http://www.maciverse.com/refurbished-ipad.html
Refurbs have new screen, back and battery.
You can see the model number in Settings>General>About>Model. The model number has a two-letter code, a number and some more letters. The last part stands for the country/region. The first letter can be "F" (refurbished), "M" (normal retail), or "P" (personalized / engraved). For example MC605B is the model MC605 and B is for the region.

Is the replacement ipad the new ipad or just the refurbished ipad?

Go to Service Answer Center - iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
If you click on Express Replacement Service and then
Will the replacement iPad be the same model as the one I purchased?
Yes, Apple will send you the same model with the same specifications as the iPad you originally purchased. The replacement iPad will be new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability.
I assume or equivalent could mean refurbished.

  • Replacement product. New or refurbished Iphone 5?

"Your repair request is complete and we're sending you a replacement product." Original and replacement serial numbers are shown in the email.  Does this mean I'm getting a new or refurbished Iphone5? I sent this in due to a power issue.

Could be new, or refurbished. All refurbished iPhones get new cases & batteries, making it almost impossible to tell the difference.

  • Are replacement iPhone's new or refurbished?

My iPhone 5 developed a fault and was replaced in store, the replacement came in a unbranded brown box.
Could anyone tell me if it would have been a new or refurbished phone?
    Thanks

Replacement iPhones are not mass manufactured.  They are built by a trained & certified technician.  Every component is new, however, with the possible exception of the camera and the processor, which may be reclaimed parts from previous units.  All components are checked & inspected prior to assembly, and the final assembled product is also quality checked.  This is a higher level of inspection that happens to any mass produced iPhone.
Therefore, replacement iPhones have gone through a higher standard of quality control than a 'new' iPhone.  In some rare cases, you may end up getting a new iPhone from the assembly line, but that's usually only if there are no remanufactured devices available.

  • IPad Mini: New or Refurbished

    Hello Apple Community,
I am a medical student and not a tech savvy. This is my first Apple product purchase. I am wondering if my iPad Mini is new or the store guy sold me refurbished iPad. How can I check my device?
Your help in this regard will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
P.S: I purchased my device from Pakistan, this country does not have any official Apple stores.

    Thanks for replying Courcoul,
After entering the serial number, the screen shows the following details: [screen shot attached]
    - Valid Purchase Date
    - Telephone Technical Support: Expired
    - Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
    - Eligible for the AppleCare Protection Plan
Forgive my ignorance but this didn't help me. Could you please explain what this means?
    Thanks!

  • What are the odds? Repaired, New or Refurbished ZEN MIC

I recently RMAed my Zen Micro due to the headphone jack issue. Being the first time Im dealing with CREATIVE's customer service i decided to look back on past threads and I came across a couple that mentioned that for this issue Creative was sending stand-alone units believed by their users to be "refurbished", where most of them had other technical issues (back button malfunction, firmware issues. etc.)
    My questions are:
Has anybody that had this problem got their Micro "Fix" or replaced with a "NEW" or "Refurbished" Unit's
If you got it fix how was your experience...better or worst?
If by chance you were lucky enough to get it NEW how was your experience....better or worst?
If you got a refurbished how is or was you experience with it....better or worst?
    I'll appreciate your responses!
PS if any of the forums moderators (Catherina or Jeremy) could explain this process it will be also appreciated!

True, how can we tell?...but when you hear the world refurbish by definition it means: "<!--StartFragment --><SPAN class=ResultBodyBlack><B>restore something to good repair: </B><SPAN class=ResultBody>to restore something to a cleaner, brighter, or more functional state"
<SPAN class=ResultBody>this could mean many things (and just in case, Im assuming):
<SPAN class=ResultBody>*An RMAed micro from someone else fixed and sent to you.
<SPAN class=ResultBody>*A guinea pig from firmware tests with a new hard disk.
<SPAN class=ResultBody>*The assumptions are endless... I don't work at creative.... I would fear the worst when I hear the word refurbish until otherwise they tell us how they do it!
<SPAN class=ResultBody>The point of all of this is that we all spent hundreds of dollars on these gadgets to receive one that you don't know its past history, now if the tell me.... that they'll fix mine that's another story (mine had no firmware issues, all buttons work fine....) so all they do is mess with it and send it back. Many people in these forums had complained that their replacements had gone bad after a few months. I didn't spend that amount of money to go through a different issue every few months...truly is not worth it.

  • How Can I Tell if My iPad Air Replacement is New or Refurbished

I'm getting a replacement iPad Air because mine had a problem with it, there were loose magnets in it. I've heard that people have another person's data on apps they have just downloaded and that makes me really uncomfortable.
How can I tell if my replacement is brand new or just refurbished? Is there info in the serial/model number?
    Thanks.

You might hear a lot of things on the Internet but that doesn't make them true.
If you got a refurbished iPad from Apple it would be completely empty.
Refurbished iPads are identified on the packaging.
You can see the model number in Settings > Genera l> About > Model. The model number has a two-letter code, a number and some more letters. The last part stands for the country/region. The first letter can be "F" (refurbished), "M" (normal retail), or "P" (personalized / engraved).

  • Difference between refurbished ipad and replacement ipad

Whats the difference between the refurnished ipads sold on the online store and the replacement ipad you get when you take your ipad in for service with a defect, which is apparently also refurbished.  Are they the same thing?

I think perhaps the most significant difference is the warranty (which has nothing to do with the device quality). If you buy a refurbished device from the Online Store, as I did with my MacBook Air (saved $200!), you get the same one year warranty you would get if you bought a brand new device. If Apple swaps out your device under warranty, you will have the remainder of your original warranty or 90 days, which ever is longer, if I recall correctly.
If you buy a device online, you get a brown box but all of the same accessories as you would with a new one. If your device is replaced under warranty, they hand you a naked device, no accessories, no box.
I've had one iPod, one iPhone and now, one iPad replaced under warranty. The devices were indistinguishable from new.

  • Just received a replacement ipad2 and I pressed start iPad as new by mistake. I wanted to restore my iPad by syncing it with iTunes. Can anyone help with this?

Just received a replacement ipad2 and I'm having trouble syncing it with my pc. I started my iPad as new instead of using the restoring option, is there any way I can get my old apps, songs etc restored on my replacement iPad?

You've already set it up as new? Go into the settings and general and reset and reset everything. THen plug it back in and iTunes will, hopefully, see it as new again and you can choose the restore option.

  • Replacement iPhones in the UK from Apple Store new or refurbished?

Are replacement handsets offered in the Apple Store new or refurbished? From speaking with the staff there they referred to them as Service Grade handsets and I did notice the box containing the handset had a quality control sticker applied to it.
I am looking to exchange my faulty iPhone but do not want the replacement to be a used and refurbished handset while I am within 14 days of original purchase.
Thanks for any help or information offered.

I doubt you would get a refurb in return. Most of the stock in the UK will still be new stock and their first distribution point will likley be through the uk applestore, but i'm guessing it might be a month or two before they show up. Refurbs can be unsold old stock (unopened) or unwanted returns (openened) or even repaired stock. Before they go on sale they test them out for a while to catch any obvious issues. Typically they are a good deal.
I'm sure if you returned to the applestore and they agreed to a replacement (within 1 year not 12 days) ask that it be from new stock and they will oblige.
