Replacement iPhone -- mostly works, but issues remain

I had to get my iPhone replaced via the $199 out-of-warranty thing due to water damage (don't ask). The genius at the Apple Store was very helpful, and my replacement phone was activated before I left the store. When I got home, I plugged it into iTunes, which restored everything successfully. So far so good.
However, now whenever I plug the phone in to sync it, the first thing iTunes shows me is the "let's set up your new iPhone" screen. When I click Continue, it goes to the normal sync behavior. But it never seems to save the fact that this is a replacement phone.
The same for MobileMe and the "Find My Phone" settings. It reports that my iPhone is offline (well, it probably is, in a box on its way back to Apple for parts cannibalization or something). But there doesn't appear to be a way to tell MobileMe the phone has been replaced, either!
The final thing that doesn't work is push email. Actually, if this worked none of the other stuff would bother me all that much.
All three things are the same problem, I am sure...just not what sure what to do about it. Everything is set up correctly on the phone itself (MobileMe password, mail account details, "push" enabled), but the relevant services don't recognize this new iPhone as my iPhone.
Note that it does receive and make phone calls successfully, so the AT&T related information has been updated properly. It's just the Apple-related stuff. I tried to find existing postings on this (via Google, not just here) and was unsuccessful, so any suggestions are appreciated.

OK, this has resolved itself...guess it just took time for things to percolate through Apple's servers. iTunes finally gave me a chance to change the registration information and both push email and Find My iPhone are working now.
So I should have procrastinated on asking the question!

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Replacement iPhone came in but problems arose...

WiFi greyed out and we received a replacement iPhone. It says that if water indicators are tripped you pay full retail price. The phone still works completely fine except for the fact that the 6.0.0 update caused the wifi to quit working and the next one to cause it to grey out, but my question is what if only one of the two external indicators are tripped; is the warranty still void? The indicator that is tripped also is not completely red it is more of a pink color is that counted as water damage?
Your help and experience are appreciated.

"what if only one of the two external indicators are tripped"
Is this a trick question based on a grade school experience?  There are no "external indicators" - the moisture indicators are internal to the iPhone.  From what other users have posted, a single tripped indicator will void the warranty.  However, rather than do a length Q-and-A about this, why not just take your iPhone to the nearest Apple store?

  • IPad works, but display remains black! Fixed now.

Hi, this isn't a question but a maybe solution in case anyone else is experiencing this issue I just experienced.
The iPad worked but the display showed nothing. The backlight came on and if I took a screenshot it would momentarily show what was onscreen. Tried to fix it with the usual methods - Reset. Restore. DFU mode. Restore again. No luck. Eventually I just slapped it hard on the back and it worked

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.  If you try ALL these steps and your phone still doesn't function properly, you'll need to bring it to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • IPhone 4S working but the screen is black

My iPhone screen is completely black but the phone works perfectly. I can connect it to the MAC, i can use Reflector to see everything, music, camera.. Everything works, but to see the phone's screen i need a torchlight. The fact is, that when i switch it on, i can see the Apple logo for a second and i can see everything when the phone is switched off (example: when charging i can see perfectly the battery icon, or "Connect to iTunes" ecc...). I tried to restore the phone from backup, to reset it, pressing home and the power button, DFU mode... EVERYTHING.
My question is: will buying a new LCD screen solve my problem? If not, any idea?

You need to make an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar to have it evaluated by the techs there. We are just users like you and cannot possibly diagnose what's wrong with your phone without looking at it.

  • My iphone 4s works, but the screen is completely black... does anybody know how to fix this?

Hi i woke up three days ago to my iphone 4s not working, assuming it had no charge i plugged it in and fully charged the battery.
when i returned the screen was still black, but the phone was functioning (ringing and accepting text messages etc)...
The screen has been blank since and have tried things like restoring and hard resets, but this has not worked. a very very vague image appears when in use but it is almost impossible to see.
Can anybody suggest a way to maybe fix this issue if it is possible?
If it is not possible would i be entitled to a replacement or free repairs as I have had the phone less than 1 year and should still qualify for the warranty?
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the phone replaced. It sounds like the backlight has failed.
If it's under warranty, there will be no charge so long as the phone isn't physically damaged.

  • HT201412 My front camera on my iphone 5 works but my rear camera doesn't?

it's been like this since the iOS 7 update. It never did this on before i updated. Is there anyway to fix this?? I've tried turning my phone on and off and resetting my phone but it doesn't help.

    Hi awkwardonline,
If you are having issues with the rear camera on your iPhone after updating to iOS7, you may want to try the troubleshooting in the following article:

  • Spilled Water on iphone, still works but unsure what to do.

    Hi,
So I had a glass of water in one hand and my iphone in the other and accidentally bumped into a table last night at work, I ended up dousing the hand that was holding my iphone with water. I immediately dried the phone off and took it out of it's case. It seemed like the screen was still working and I'm not sure how much of the phone got wet, but I powered it off and now it's at home sitting in a baggie of rice. How long should I keep it in the rice before I turn it on to see if everything still works?
    Thanks

two days will do it for sure.  chances are its ok, usually they get fried from submerging not just a spill
    peace, Clyde

  • Setting new email account on iphone not working - but same EXACT account settings on iPad working fine.

I am attempting to setup my website's email on my new iPhone 5s iOS 7.1.2
I have Yahoo! setup and working perfectly.  But when I attempt to setup the new email account using the same exact settings that are on my iPad - I get an error that says the username or password is incorrect.  I have rebooted the phone and no luck.  I have attempted to setup the account as both IMAP as well as POP3... and get the same error message.  I know that this is a situation that the password is correct and the error message isnt telling me what is really going on.  Does anyone have any idea?

Yahoo has hundreds of mail servers that are notorious for being out of sync. In all likelyhood, you are hitting two completely different servers on your iPad and your phone.
It's a Yahoo problem. The best thing you can do to alleviate the problem is dump Yahoo and move to something else for email. It's been like this for years. I wouldn't expect to see it fixed anytime in the foreseeable future.

  • Iphone email works but generates wrong return address

    I'm using iphone 5 ios7
I can receive and generate email from my iphone to my pop server account.  However, any email I send out has the wrong return addess -- it's missing a digit.
In settings, when I go to that account, it has the wrong address with a check mark.  But all efforts to add another email, the right one, and put a check next to that to make it the default, have failed.  Correct address simply does not remain on that line once I leave that screen.

What part of settings are you going to where you see the email address with a checkmark? The return address for your email is set at the beginning and when you create the account. Your best bet is to delete the account and recreate it making sure all settings are correct.
I think I found where you were. When you first go into Settings and then select the account, then look under POP account information and select the email. You need to fix the default, which is the one when you create the account. That is where the error is at. You cannot change the default by adding a new address in that area.

Had successfully set up and sent iMessages from my iPad to an iPhone 4 but now without changing anything I get the red error message every time.
I have rebooted and that didn't work. I don't know how to select whether to send to mobile number or email but equally it had been working fine and I didn't change anything.

  • IPad tethering to iPhone 4s works but should be much easier

    Hi,
I am using a wifi-only new iPad at work and tethering it with my iPhone 4s which works fine with a T-Mobile contract here in the UK.
My issue is that EVERY time I want to tether the iPad I have to go to my iPhone settings and turn off the personal hotspot for a few seconds, then turn it back on, go to my iPad settings / Network / Wifi and select my iPhone.
Why do I have to go through this ritual every single time I want them to pair up? The same does not happen with my wife's iPhone 4 - she connects up to my personal hotspot when we're at work without even knowing. (Her carrier is O2 and the reception at our workplace is terrible, so she uses mine).
I really would like to not have to mess with both devices several times a day to get the tethering to work. Say I take my phone to another office, out of range for personal hotspot, when I come back I have to go through the same procedure to get it working again. TEDIOUS!
Am I missing some setting on the iPad somewhere? By the way, the same happened with my iPad2.
    Thanks for any help.
    Phil

    Hi pjl,
Yes I forgot to mention, the iPad does lose the tether when it sleeps, so I turned sleep off permanently which is probably not great for battery life either!
I just don't understand why another iPhone4 can connect to the personal hotspot with absolutely no intervention once it knows the password. That's how it should be on the iPad. They are both running the latest iOS5 so why any difference?

  • My iphone 4 works but the screen wont turn on, whats wrong

My phonw got wet and the screen was cracked. so i thought the screen mustve gone bad or something so i bought a new screen and got it replaced. Now the whole phone is working like i can hear the messages come in and everythin but the screen just isnt turning on. I really need to know whats wrong with the d phone? Also i knew it was wet so i left the phone in rice for 2 days and then got the screen replaced.

try holding and pressing the sleep button and home button together for a few seconds and see if there will be any change in the screen and apple logo should appear after 10 seconds or so if not i guess its a problem with the screen itself maybe darkened pixels or maybe a wire is cut off

  • Replacement Power Supply Works But Smells

Having replaced the Power Supply, and have it working again, I have noticed a sort of smell, an odour of very hot electronic components. I smelt it this morning when I opened the door where the G4 lives. Booting up it doesn't stop. On a scale of one to ten, I would give it about three. There is no smoke, yet.
Is there a software program which can show the internal temperature of the CPU's?

Yeah The smell is not diminishing. I had shut the door after a 4 hour session with the window open, I shut the door and the window and went out. When I opened the door the odour was there, a bit stronger because the door and the window were shut. Maybe the fans inside Power Supply or the G4 are not working properly, I don't know. The G4 is fully functional despite the smell, burning/melting, capacitors or something inside there. Anyone else had anything like this after a Power Supply replacement? Not funny.
