Replacement iphone restore, icloud doesn't have backup
I have recieved a replacement iphone 4s under warranty. The problem is that when I tried to restore the phone using my icloud backup all it can find is my ipad backup. There is no evidence of the iphone backup I did earlier in the day before I got the new one. They both use the same apple id, of course. Does anyone have any idea how I can find my icloud backup(s)?

I'm travelling and trying to back up my new iPhone to iCloud. I have sufficient storage, am connected to wifi and it's plugged into a power source and yet it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm currently in India. Could that be the cause or can anyone suggest any reason why this wouldn't work?

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test: Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options. Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup. If that doesn't work, then this post will not help. If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup. If successful, keep repeating these steps. If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail. (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one. -

You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can) -

Circle and cross through iTunes icon: had the seagate hard drive replaced and restored data from time machine backup. Why does the iTunes icon have a circle and cross through it? As though incomplete? tried everything and still Circle and cross through iTunes icon.
No it isn't something you'd find on the computer, it has to be custom installed from the 10.6 installer disc or Software Update if it wasn't before. It allows you to use older PowerPC applications on your Mac. On the other hand double check the version of iTunes you have does not require 10.7 minimum either.

The Contacts app continually adds last names that I edit out. this happens across MacBook, iPhone, and iCloud. I have even fully deleted the contact and reentered. I am about to move to Android !! From posts it looks like this is a common problem, but I've never seen an explanation or fix from Apple. Does anyone know how to correct this?
It is asking if you want to delete all the iCloud contacts off your Mac (not in iCloud).
Delete them. If you keep them you will have duplicates when you turn it back on. You will have the copy you kept and another copy when they resync with iCloud -

TanksYou have to follow the process outlined here to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup.. Otherwise, as you have noticed, the recovered contacts are overwritten when your device reconnects to iCloud.

I have recently been experiencing problems with my iPhone and iCloud backup. My iPhone tells me I have not backed it up to iCloud in over 4 weeks, when in actually it was 2 days ago. So I plug my phone into my laptop and click - 'Back up to iCloud'. It runs and when complete, it tells me 'Your iPhone has never been backed up to iCloud.' Even I after I have just completed the function.
Can someone help shed light on what the problem is?To backup to iCloud, you actually backup on your phone, not your computer. To backup to iCloud, you MUST be connected to wifi. While on wifi, go to Settings> iCloud (sign into iCloud if you haven't yet)> Sorage & Backup> Backup Now. You get 5GB of complimentary iCloud storage. For most people, that's enough. iCloud backup stores app data (game progress, login, etc), contacts, calendars, notes, and photos. The apps themselves and your music can be retrieved in the iTunes and app stores for free again by going to the purchased area.

What happened to the manual sort of my 98 apps after I restored to a replacement iPhone?
Doesn’t the backup store app sort order?Okay, quick post as I have to leave. You find the backup data set in /home/library/application support/mobilesync I think and that the backup data which the sync process creates. You restore that directory to the desktop, and then remove the current equivalent from your machine to the trash and put the restored on in its place. make sure the auto sync is disabled, connect the iPhone and then do a Restore from backup.

Yesterday i received a replacement iPhone and when i got home i restored it to my previous backup, however after the restore it brings me back to the set up your iphone page, where i can only pick to restore from backup or set up new, what gives?

Is calendar syncing enabled on both the computer and the phone.
Are your calendars in your iCloud group and not in a on my mac group.
only calendars in the iCloud group will sync. -
Replacement iPhone restore problems - only a very old backup
My partner lost her iPhone 4 and just purchased an iPhone 4S - she didn't want the new 5s (size). When she went to do a backup from her computer the most recent restore option is more than 18 months ago. She doesn't do frequent sync to iTunes but she has definitely sync her iPhone 4 this year on more than a few occasions. I had this problem (not this extreme) when swapping iPhones , recent sync is not in the list .
Can anyone shed some light on this?Have her update her phone and try again. If the replacement phone is running a lower version of iOS than the one she backed up, the backup will not be shown when she attempts to restor it. (She can check the iOS version by going to Settings>Ganeral>About>Version.) Updating will update it to iOS 7.0.2.

If you have a 3G you can't use iCloud as iCloud requires iOS 5 or higher and the 3G cannot be updated beyond iOS 4.2.1.
If you have a 3GS, update it to iOS 6 by connecting it to iTunes. If you aren't prompted to update, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Check for Update. After updating you can set it up as shown here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ios.html. -
Locking iPhone via icloud doesn't work
I recently lost an iPhone 5. I went on to my iCloud account and locked the handset via the find my iPhone app. I have since discovered that it's of no consequence at all, apparently. My telco informed me that the SIM was replaced and the phone has been used since then to make calls. Hmmm - bit of misinformation I think - not the theft proof device I'd been told about.
Pity, I really enjoyed the extra performance from the new hardware...for all of three days!@diesel vdub - I'm not sure where you read into my post that I expected an app would be digital handset theft prevention system, but, if you've used the app to locate a lost device, you'll notice that you can put a message on the screen, make the device play a very annoying sound and wipe the device. At what point would you assume that the app wasn't intended as a theft deterrent from it's capabilities? Please do go through the motions of using an app before discussing it's features and relevant merits based on your perusal of the marcoms. As someone closer to the trough when the device was first launched, I do have a very good idea of what the internal apps are intended for.
For the rest of the gentle souls who offered advice, thank you for your compassionate, sympathetic advice.
The first things I did in order were, reported the theft to the NSW (my state in Australia)Police, reported the IMEI number as belonging to a stolen device with my service providor and made certain they moved it onto the list of stolen iPhones.
My initial post was to express dismay with the apps shortcomings and to make those operating on my earlier foundation of faith aware, that reliance on the app is, in my expereince, a fruitless exercise.
