Replacement iPod mini issues

My iPod mini froze, so I took it to Best Buy and they replaced it with a new one. They just switched the iPod's so I didn't get the ID for it, that means I can't register it. When I plug it into my computer, it says I need to run the iPod update. I do that and it says "Internal Error." My computer doesn't recognize my iPod after that. What do I do?

You don't need ID to register your iPod, all you need is the serial number on the bottom of the iPod. It's very small and it should be the first line after the square with how many GB your iPod has..right under it.

  • Help! Got replacement ipod mini and instructions are bad!

I got my replacement ipod mini today in the mail, and was trying to follow the instructions to convert it from a Mac OS X operating system to a Windows XP (compatible with my computer) operating system. The instructions say that I have to go to www.apple.com/ipod/download and get the latest ipod updater. All that does is let me download the latest itunes, which I now have. Then it says to run the ipod updater by going to 'all programs' on the start menu, selecting "ipod" (there is, however, no 'ipod' option on my start menu) and selecting ipod updater. I can't do this. I looked on my hard drive under program files and there is a folder called "ipod" but it doesn't seem to have an updater in it - all it has is this weird file called "bin" in it, and in that file is a thing called "Ipodservice module" but when I click it, it doesn't open.
supposedly, if I were to open this updater thing, the instructions say that a window would open up displaying various ipod models and corresponding software versions that the updater will install. Then I was supposed to plug in my ipod and click the 'restore' button to update it to Windows XP.
So, since I don't seem to have any ipod updaters that work on my computer, and I can't find a way to download this mysterious program given the website listed on the instructions apple sent me, how on earth am I supposed to convert this thing to windows XP? I'm afraid to plug it into the computer without running this updater thing first because I have no idea if I'll screw it up or not (and I just went through the irritating process of getting a replacement ipod, so I don't really want to take chances). Does itunes 7 just update the ipod for you, without an updater? Please, somebody help!

Um, new problem. I plugged in the ipod and my computer won't even recognize it. It doesn't show up in itunes, and since it doesn't even appear on my hard drive or on the lower right hand screen icons, I can't properly disconnect it. I think I have now screwed it up, beause I unplugged it and plugged it in again and now the battery charge icon isn't moving - it appears to be frozen. Any suggestions? I hope I haven't ruined this brand new ipod.

  • Apple replaced ipod mini

I received my replacement ipod mini and I am trying to check to see which mini they sent me -- the 8 hour or the 18 hour battery one. Is there any way to check? I know how to find the info (serial number, hard drive size, etc.) but the battery life doesn't seem to be available.

this is a stupid question, but how can you tell if it's a first or second generation mini? mine is still under warranty, so i'm assuming it must be a second generation, since it was so recently purchased. any idea?

Is it that easy or do I need to set up a new link??
    Hope someone can help me.

I have just recieved my replacement ipod mini. It currently is not recognised by my PC, the depleted battery icon appears. I have left it plugged into the pc for over two hours, and still no change. I have also tried charging it with the AC plug adaptor, but this tells me the ipod is fully charged. As soon as I take it out of the charger, it goes dead. If i try to plug it back into the pc , it gives me the depleted battery icon again and won't recognise it. I have rest it numerous times and -reinstalled ipod updates and i tunes. PLEASE HELP???????????

  • Just got a replacement ipod mini...

just got my refurbished replacement mini today but my problems aren't solved. my computer still does not recognize this replacement ipod either just like my last one that i sent in for repair. should i maybe try a new USB cable? i have tried both USB ports on my laptop and still no luck. i just figured after all the other problems i had w/ my mini that after getting this refurbished replacement everything would be solved but it's not. i'm just wondering what i should try next.
    thanks,
    lauren

i tried that and it doesn't recognize it so it doesn't hi-light the restore button. also, it still doesn't charge when i plug it in to my usb port. if i reset the mini while it is in the usb port, it charges but i still can't restore or update the ipod. any ideas of what i should do now since i can't hit the restore or update buttons?
    thanks again,

  • Transfer of library to replacement iPod mini

How can I transfer my existing iTunes library (currently on iPod mini [1st generation]) to my new replacement iPod (2nd generation)? Do I need to install the disc that came with the new iPod? If I want to install the new disc on my work computer (vs. home where the old is currently installed), can I transfer the library to the other computer?

IPods do not directly transfer Libraries between themselves. I assume that you have a complete iTunes Library on one of the PCs, yes?
Just charge up the new Mini, download the most recent Updater software, install the Updater software, then run it to format the new Mini for windows use. Just connect the Mini to your iTunes and it will sync with the Library.
See this link for several methods to transfer your Library to another computer:

Try restoring the iPod to factory settings, then reload the songs from iTunes.
If this doesn't alter the situation, you may be forced to send this one back also.

  • MAJOR Ipod Mini Issues!!! HELP PLEASE!

Oh My~lanta! I am just about at my wit's end w/ this too!!! I'm experiencing the same problems although it seems like everyday I get a new error message!!!! My computer crashed back in December and ever since, my IPOD has not been the same. I thought it had something to do w/ the computer crashing but from what I read here, it seems it may be something w/ the latest version of ITunes and if so, why on earth has it not been fixed yet??!!! Today I have just about had it! My Ipod, even after rebooting, restoring, reinstalling won't even work at all and I get a message today that says there was a problem downloading the software and the requested resource was not found. All of this started when I tried to plug in my Ipod Mini to sync it to ITunes. It said IPOD cannot be synced, unknown error occurred (-48). I tried to restore it at that point and then I got the message that it could not be synced, Requested File could not be found. After a few days and trying this again, I got another message that said Disk could not be read from or written to, Corrupted & Not readable; IPOD connection status failed. Last night when I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled, it started to sync and appeared to be downloading most of my songs, well it got to 200 and then stopped, said it could not be synced and completely erased everything again. Today tried all over again as well and got a message on my computer saying Delayed Write Failed, unable to save data on file F. So then I reinstalled and rebooted and all that again and now I have a "coruppted Ipod" and can't even do anything with it! I'm at a loss and pretty upset that there is not a 1-800# that I can find to call and talk to somebody about this over the phone! Any help???!!! Please, I'm really freaking out about this!

"Disk could not be read from or written to" I have the same problem, can't copy any music to my iPod, why's that, I think it's got something to do with the new iTunes

  • Replacing Ipod mini with New nano,

    Hi
I have purchased my wife to be a new Ipod nano (8gb), she currently uses an Ipod mini (6GB). We use the same PC & to keep both her mini and my 30Gb Ipod video. So she has to manually manage the tunes on her mini.
Now she has this new nano, she wants put the same songs on her shiney blue nano, but this as taken hers hours to shift through all 6000 tracks that we have collected in itunes.
So the question is, is there a simple way to copy the same tracks on the old mini to the new nano?

*is there a simple way to copy the same tracks on the old mini to the new nano?*
You can't copy from one iPod to another and since the old one is being managed manually then you've no original single source to sync from so I'm afraid there is no simple answer.
Something you might want to consider for managing smaller iPods with a large shared library is the option "Sync Music - selected Playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync". In future if you were to add another iPod it could sync to the same source playlist.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update the iPod from, call it -My iPod Nano for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod: Syncing Music to iPod

  • IPod Mini Issues

    Hello, everyone.
For the past month now, my iPod has been going through major issues, and i'm running out of ideas.
It doesn't appear to be a battery issue, because my iPod is responsive, however, the minute I turn it on, a sad folder icon appears, and it lists the apple support website. I was urged to restore it, but my computer freezes when I plug in the 'pod.
After a few weeks of hunting for a cure, i've found no solution. I've tried booting it in Disk mode, and ran a few tests in Diagnostics. My HDScan failed.
Is there anything I can do? Or am I SOL?
I'd send it in for service, but i'm a month out of warranty. Would it be more worthwhile to purchase a new mp3? I love my mini to death, but i've been told that out-of-warranty repairs will cost me more than a new player.
Let me know what you think. If you have any ideas whatsoever, please let me know.
I'm getting pretty desperate (A CD walkman can only get you so far, nowadays)
    Thanks alot!
    -Sara

  • IPod mini issues: Will not start, Unrecognized by CPU

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if anyone else has a fix for this problem: My Mini's worked fine for a little under a year now, and it's giving me a bit of a problem now. First off, it jumps to the folder/exclamation icon, and I've tried all the conventional methods for rebooting it, resets don't work, it won't go to disk mode, and my computer won't detect it.
If anyone has a fix for this, mind letting me know?

  • Transferring music to my replacement ipod mini

Hi i've just got a replacement for my ipod after battery trouble. When I connect to iTunes (which was already installed on my PC) it recognises my iPod & says that it is updating it, but when update is complete there is no music on my iPod. Do I need to re-install iTunes and load my music again?

I don't know for sure, but it could be that when it said it was "Updating" your iPod, it meant that it was putting the correct software on it to make it compatible with the computer, after wich you would have to import the songs to it by dragging songs on or stting it to automatically update your iPod to match your library. I hope this helops, but it is always possible that I amI could be misunderstanding the problem. Oh and sorry, but you can't reply to me here because I am about to leave for the weekend, so I can't follow up on this, sorry.

  • Replace the hard drive in my iPod Mini with CompactFlash Card?

Hi. I just dropped my mini (a whole 4 feet) and now it's broken. The drive is busted. I can hear it just clicking away and then I get the un-happy mac icon. Since it's past its warrantee and I don't have apple care for it, either I replace the hard drive or chuck it in the trash. I'm going to try the first one. I open it up and pulled out the Hitachi 4GB mini hard drive. It appears to just be a CompactFlash Card drive. My question is this:
Can I replace it with any Compact Flash Card?
I was thinking about replacing it with a regular card (i.e. no micro drive with delicate spinning parts). I figure it will be more durable and possibly extend the battery life. I think I can get atleast a 2GB card, which is what I presume they use in the nano.
    Thanks

Technically, you could replace the drive in your iPod. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you do it. After you replace the drive, just restore the iPod through the iPod restore software. After you restore your iPod, you can then use your iPod just like before. One thing I would like to point out is that the Nano uses a flash drive, not a hard drive so there is no point in trying to match a drive with the nano drive. Anyways, you may find the site http://www.ifixit.com helpful when you take on this task. I would also google "replacing iPod mini hard drive" just so you can get some insight before you take the task on.

  • Older iPod Mini

iTunes says that my iPod mini is corrupted and cannot restore, any suggestions?

Wow - same issue. I bought my mini off of Amazon. I have a feeling it has something to do with  needing to format it initially for Windows (fat 32?) - I didn't realize there was anything more to simply connecting and syncing. I've spent the last week on youtube searching for an answer. Clicking and 'dialing up' (the static noise) sounds are coming from within my mini. I think somehow I corrupted it (from reading numerous posts) bc my other devices use the same itunes, cables, and songs and work fine. I know, i know - it sounds like the hard drive - but I am hoping it is a fixable issue with reformatting, re-installing....etc. Are you MAC or WINDOWS?
Also, my itunes doesn't recognize it and my computer sees it as an empty removable storage device 0GB used & 0 GB available.
TRIED THESE METHODS WITH NO SUCCESS although my ipod was recognized a few times in i tunes but only prompted me to re format before restoring.
    disk mode
    diagnostic mode
    reset
    format (can't execute)
restore (executes for  just a smidege of the way in the progress bar)
    changing letter drive
I repeatedly got the message that I don't have the rights to 'reformat' followed by error 1439.
Read this about someone with different symptoms but possibly the same problem (hard drive??) & a partial solution.
