Replacement iPod - Still Not Working

Last week I sent my 30GB to Apple for service (after having it only a month) and I recieved my replacement yesterday, but I'm still having issues.
When I first got it home, it hooked up to iTunes and my laptop just fine, but then it stopped transferring songs and I got errors and I had to restore it.
Since I restored it last, I cannot get it connected to the computer properly. iTunes does not recognize it and when I hook it up to the installer, it says "Initializing..." and just sits there forever, doing nothing. A few times it's told me to restart the computer, which I've done, and then it went back to the "Initializing..." I also tried it in data mode, and still nothing. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and the iPod updater (both the 2006-03-23 update and the old 2006-01-10) and I have been all over the website and I have tried ALL of Apple's suggestions. I tried hooking it up to another computer - a desktop - and it wouldn't work there, either, which leads me to believe that it's the iPod and not the computer.
It's bad enough that I had to get a month-old iPod replaced, but now the new one won't work, either. I'm very frustrated. Anyone have any suggestions?? I'm about to just send it back to Apple again....
HP   Windows XP   30GB White

Nevermind...
I finally called customer service and the guy was very helpful but nothing he had me do worked, so I'm sending it to Apple... AGAIN!
I'm my third iPod doesn't work either, I will be very upset. Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

  • Ipod still not working

Hi. I asked a question earlier because my Ipod is not responding. I restored it and when it said prossesing data or something like that I clicked devises and then I think I stopped the prossesing data thing. My ipod still will not turn on. Im very frustrated and it took 2 hours to restore. My waranty is still good. If I do get another Ipod from this website, do I have to pay for it since I have a waranty? Do I need to take my Ipod to the Apple store? Thanks for your help.
    Ipod Touch, 4g, 8gb, 9 months old

As long as it's a legit site and you didn't get it from someone on eBay, you can take it to the apple store, but you may have to prove where you got the product from. I bought my phone from orange website, but I got it replaced in the apple store, so you should be good on that, but just phone the company you bought it from and ask them about it first, they may replace or advise you to go to apple. Good luck.

  • New iPod still not working

I went to the Apple store and they gave me a new iPod which worked for a little until it stopped connecting to iTunes. The message says "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
I uninstalled iTunes but now when I try to install iTunes an error message comes up. What do I do now?

Try to uninstall the iPod Updater and iTunes using the add/removal software, then download the latest iTunes and iPod updater from apple.com. Install both of them, then open ipod updater, wait and until you are asked to plug your iPod with the computer, then connect it and click Restore.

  • IPOD STILL NOT WORKING EVEN AFTER SERVICE

    Hi,
I can't belive this. I sent my ipod off for service because my ipod had a problem with its battery. The ipod would cut off when the indicator showed 1/2 full this happened about an hour into play. Yes the battery life was only about an hour.
So when i got it back I was so glad but I've just been using it and the problem still persists. I have tried the battery test and the ipod fails this test.
I cannot understand why apple has sent me my ipod back unchanged. I paid £180 for my first generation mini and at the moment it is almost useless as I have to constantly charge the battery up.
Can anyone give me some advise??? Thank You For Your Time

Did you get an email adress or phone numer for someone to complain too? I got 2 ipods. One broke sometime ago and we go a replacment and now both of them are broken. (Its not my PC, I use a Sony MP3 and it works fine). It is the lack of customer service that is bugging me. I have been trying to call Apple or an Apple store for days. Totally rubbish. My daughter threw her ipod out today!!! If you get a UK phone number or amail address please let me know. Cheers

  • Awww man got a new replacement ipod but not working!!

So recently i got a replacement from a nice guy for free and it was new i believe. So i plug it into my computer today, and i noticed that the screen wasnt responding! Help me please! Im always stuck on slide to unlock no matter what i do doesnt work, i tried sliding, nope i tried restarting, nope nothing will work!

Does it ask for a passcode? It does not sound like a new iPod since a new one would show the iTunes icon with a USB plug. You have to first connected a new iPod to your computer and activate it.

  • 2007 20", replaced HD, still not working

I have an iMac 20 inch model A1224, circa 2007.  was working fine, then one day stopped booting up.  I would get either just white screen with whirring pinwheel, or it would get to a white screen with grey apple, but no further.  (once in the first 100 power-ups it got as far as loading my wallpaper, but then froze. Genius Bar told my my HD was fried. (I purchased a new iMac, and linked old to new via firewire, which showed the existence of an HD and some top level folders, but clicking on the folders got me to nothing).
So I decided to replace the HD.  followed instructions on line, replaced the HD myself with an exact replacement  (250 gb HD 3.5" SATA 7200rpm).  Everything seemed physicall fine.  Now when I start up, i get a white screen with a grey folder with question mark.  I inserted the original grey OS X disk in the disk drive, but can't seem to get that to get me past the flashing "?" folder.
Is it time to give up and throw this machine in the trash?

Thanks BDAqua and WZZZ.  I figured out the problem -- i was using the wrong "gray" disk.  I found the correct one, and system rebooted and is working fine.  (I now have  new problem, which is that the OS version i installed does not offer you the option of "restoring from time machine backup" -- i think b/c this version is so old, time machine wasn't around then.  I'm now updating all the software via sortware update, and hoping that'll get me to a time machine friendly version

  • Repaired ipod still not working, failure code 117

My 5th Generation iPod has been freezing for the passed few months so about a month ago, I sent it in for repair. The iPod came back with a letter saying that there was nothing wrong with it. The AppleCare had expired before I got it back from Apple and when I received it, it was still freezing frequently. I have reset and restored it numerous times before sending it in and after I got it back. When I try turning it on, all I get is an Apple on the screen. I googled this issue and I found something saying that I should try holding menu and center and then menu and previous to get it to go into diagnostics. When I run the automatic diagnostics, I get a message saying:
"Failure code: 117 with 14 fails"
The site I was reading doesn't actually say what the error codes mean. Do you guys have any suggestions.

  • Replaced HDD, still not working

Hi. Our MacBook stopped working for no reason. It wouldn't boot up, and just the flashing folder with a question mark appeared. After some searching it seemed like this is a common problem and most likely the HDD had failed. MacBook is 14 months old. Great.
So I bought a new HDD - Seagate Momentus 120GB 7200RPM. Followed the instructions to install it. But the problem persists. The only difference I can tell is that it takes slightly less time for the flashing question-mark folder to appear than it did before.
I have put the OS X install disk into the drive, and held down C during start up, and that makes no difference. Also tried resetting PRAM. No difference. Is there anything else I can do before tossing it in the bin or shelling out $$$?

How strange. HDD's never ever fail do they?? You just had a bit of bad luck, it happens, my brothers HP notebook failed just outside of warranty, motherboard went, nothing you can do about it. HDD's are easily replaceable and can fail easily, Mac or PC irrespective. By buying a Dell laptop you dont reduce the risk of anything going wrong, in fact you probably increase it.
Just a quick note, its unlikely that the new HDD failed right out the box so it maybe something else or it may not have been put in properly.

  • I have restored my ipod nano 2nd generation but its still not working

i have reset my ipod and restored it but it is still not working. i have connected to itunes and it has loaded some music onto it but though the light comes on you cannot see anything else on the screen. any suggestions would be appreciated

It might be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.
