Replacement Ipod

Hi,
I just recently had a faulty 1st gen ipod 16gb the audio/headphone jack wasn't working it would cut in an out all the time, so I took it to the apple store "Comp now" in Geelong, they told me what i was up against and what not the price which was free as it was under warranty so they sent it away to be serviced. A couple of days later they rang me at home telling me that they will replace it with a second gen new ipod which i was happy with they told me it would be at the comp now store, it arrived on the Wednesday so i picked it up and it was a first gen ipod touch running (1.1.5) that has being refurbished, I explained to them what the person on the phone told me and they said we can't do nothing about it, and I asked “well can I trade it in for a second gen ipod?” No we don't allow trade ins on serviced iPod's or refurbished ones.... why give the refurbished ipods to customers at all that's saying to me that they believe the product is faulty which is wrong according to them they were telling me that refurbished is just like brand new well why not allow trade ins, why did they give a refurbished 1st gen to me when they told me it was going to be replaced with a new 2nd gen?
Thanks much appreciated

I think your problem is that you are not actually dealing with an Apple Store but an Apple reseller.
They will have different sales policies to Apple.
The actual Apple Stores around the world don't allow any trade in of old iPods for new ones so you are no worse off than shoppers at real Apple stores.
I suggest you call Apple back and ask them to check that you have in fact been given the correct replacement and that the store are not ripping you off. if they said you would get a 2nd Gen iPod then that is what you should have been given.

  • Replacement iPod won't show in iTunes 6.0.5

I purchased a 60GB video iPod Feb 2006 from the online store and the HOLD button stopped working, 3 days ago.
I went to an Apple retail store and received a brand new replacement iPod against the 1 year warranty.
I brought the new iPod home and it spent 1 1/2 days reloading my music (6,844 songs, no pic, no vids).
    Everything was fine :)
I made several changes to songs in my iTunes and added more music and connected the new iPod to my Dock:
    1) The iPod appears on my Desktop like usual, but not in iTunes.
    2) All of the icons in the menu bar on the top right corner, flash continuously.
    3) When I have another App open while the iPod is still connected, iTunes keeps popping to the front, as if something is going to change/update, but nothing ever happens. And when I switch back to the app I was using, iTunes just poppes back to the front again. I tried quitting iTunes, but it just opens itself back up again.
    4) I left the iPod connected and iTunes open during this weird behavior, thinking maybe it's just taking longer to update, but after 4 hours, there's been no change.
    5) I've tried 4 out of 5 of the R's, haven't tried RESTORE just yet.
    6) I opened iSync app just to see if the iPod would be recognized, and it was BUT it gave an error after updating saying the iPod was not available for an update.
    7) I have not and will not be updating to iTunes 7 or 7.0.1 because I am still running OSX 10.2.8. I am using iTunes version 6.0.5
What in the world could have happened in only a matter of hours to this iPod?

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Still no joy, see these.

That really does not work since music is not included in the backup.  See:

  • I am restoring the data from my itunes account to a replacement ipod touch. After all is finished in my laptop through itunes the ipod stays on the same page and does not let me finish the process, wht shoul i do?

I got a replacement ipod and did the restore data through itunes with its sync in my laptop, however, after itunes process is finished the ipod does not let me choose to continue or to finish the process, what should I do?,

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Malfunctioning replacement iPod Touch 5 from Apple.

I'm hoping I can get some advice. My 32 GB iPod Touch 5 that I had was having problems running apps (more than normal), so I went to The Apple Store at a mall. The person at the Genius Bar was able to replace it, and assured me it was a new, working device. So I had that set up, received my replacement iPod Touch 5, and was on my way home. I bought a screen protector, had it applied, and tried setting up my "new" iPod Touch 5. I went to the search tab in the App Store, and wasn't able to view all the apps that I searched for, due to the reason that for some odd reason, according to Apple, my device was malfunctioning. I did the reset, restore, etc. and nothing fixed it. I've had this replacement for 2 days now, and I'm in warranty. But that doesn't change the fact that now I would have to wait 1 week or so, to have a working device. My problem:
    1. The Apple Store in the mall is an hour away, and I don't drive. Nor can I get a ride from a friend/family member.
    2. If I sent it in, I don't believe they would replace my screen protector I JUST had applied yesterday. (I didn't test out the device, because I was under the impression from the Apple "Genius" that it worked perfectly.)
Either way, either of these options will cost more than I should have to pay, (Gas=$$$ and sending in=-$20.)
I don't think it would be too much to ask for some kind of compensation out of this deal, when I got back a product faulty from the beginning, but I'm not sure. What should I do?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Be nice but firm. Ask for some compensation but do not go overboard.

I had to have a replacement Ipod. I had backed up the tunes and purhased apps on my pc. When I reloaded everything, the apps did not download. How can I get them back on to the Ipod?

Are they configured to sync to your iPod?  See this article for more details.

If nothing else you can redownload them for free directly to your iPod Touch.

  • How long is a replacement ipod covered

My 4th Gen 40 GB ipod's HD died last Sept. I had apple care and it was replaced. The replacement drive died a month ago. I went to the apple site and was told it was out of warranty. I sent the ipod to a 3rd party co. and they said it again was the hard drive and it would be $170 to fix.
Question for anybody in the know is- how long are these replacement ipods under apple care good for? My apple care ran out at the end of oct 06.
***** the original lasted almost 2 years and the replacement lasted less than 5 months.
    thanks!
    Mike

It's either the remaining life of the existing warranty, or 90 days - whichever is longer.
    Cheers!

  • Just got a replacement ipod mini...

just got my refurbished replacement mini today but my problems aren't solved. my computer still does not recognize this replacement ipod either just like my last one that i sent in for repair. should i maybe try a new USB cable? i have tried both USB ports on my laptop and still no luck. i just figured after all the other problems i had w/ my mini that after getting this refurbished replacement everything would be solved but it's not. i'm just wondering what i should try next.
    thanks,
    lauren

i tried that and it doesn't recognize it so it doesn't hi-light the restore button. also, it still doesn't charge when i plug it in to my usb port. if i reset the mini while it is in the usb port, it charges but i still can't restore or update the ipod. any ideas of what i should do now since i can't hit the restore or update buttons?
    thanks again,
    lauren

  • Transfer of library to replacement iPod mini

How can I transfer my existing iTunes library (currently on iPod mini [1st generation]) to my new replacement iPod (2nd generation)? Do I need to install the disc that came with the new iPod? If I want to install the new disc on my work computer (vs. home where the old is currently installed), can I transfer the library to the other computer?

IPods do not directly transfer Libraries between themselves. I assume that you have a complete iTunes Library on one of the PCs, yes?
Just charge up the new Mini, download the most recent Updater software, install the Updater software, then run it to format the new Mini for windows use. Just connect the Mini to your iTunes and it will sync with the Library.
See this link for several methods to transfer your Library to another computer:
