Replacement Leopard CD

I have downloaded an upgrade to Leopard from Tiger and can not find what I need to get an official copy of the upgrade.
Does anyone know how to go about getting a replacement CD ?
Dick

Call the Apple Store for a retail copy. If not available, try Amazon or eBay.

  • Replacement Leopard DVD

    Hi,
I recently ran disk utility to make sure my HD was still ok, and it said I need to repair the disk. Unfortunately, I haven't got my DVD anymore (lost it when I moved out of my university halls).
Is there a way to get a replacement leopard dvd or something that I can use to repair the disk? The 12 month warranty expired in December, and I stupidly didn't take up the extended apple care.
I don't mind having to pay a shipping charge, but I'd rather not have to go out and buy the retail dvd.
    Thanks

Restart the computer with the Shift key held down; this quietly runs a disk repair utility.

Note that any repairs are not as effective as when booted from your installer disc.
There's also [fsk in Single User Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214] and [Post by japamac about using fsk|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1649143&tstart=0] I believe using this from SUM is more effective than Safe Mode, but again not as good as when run from your installer disc.
Call Apple Customer Support (http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html ). Provide the serial number and specifications of the Mac. They may be able to provide a replacement set of discs for a fee. These discs will be for whatever OS was installed on the computer originally, so if you have an upgraded version you will need to obtain the discs some other way.

  • Replacement Leopard Discs

About a month ago, I bought a new Macbook Pro with Leopard. I want to install XP on the machine, but having read through the Boot Camp instructions, I found out that I need the Leopard CD after the installation.
No problem I thought, but then I couldn't find the CDs. They've completely disappeared, and I have a horrible feeling that someone might have thrown them away!
Is there anyway of completing an install of XP without the Leopard CD for the drivers? And if the worst comes to the worst, do I just have to buy a new Leopard disk? Or is there a way of getting a replacement disk?

Yes, just run bootcamp and follow the instructions. You will not be able to update the drivers, however. If you have an old version of BootCamp, you can temporarily use those drivers.
And if the worst comes to the worst, do I just have to buy a new Leopard disk? Or is there a way of getting a replacement disk?
You will need a new DVD. There are many other things on the DVD that you will need for troubleshooting, system repair, etc.
    As DaddyPayCheck notes, contact Apple.

  • Am upgrading to Lion.  Does anyone know if this new system will replace the operating system presets for printing that are on Leopard?

Having trouble with my print operating system.  It will not hold presets.  If I upgrade to Lion, will Lion replace Leopard's print operating system?

It'll likely replace the printer drivers too since some older drivers may rely on Rosetta, which Lion eliminates. Along with new drivers, you may loose printing capabilities, as I did with a legacy Epson printer. Since you're in the Mac Pro forum, if you actually have a Mac Pro, it might be wise to install an additional hard disk and run the Lion upgrade on that. Try it out and see if you actually get an improvement. If not, you've still got Leopard to retreat to and an extra disk to back up on.

  • Downgrading to Tiger from Leopard on a mac mini 2.0ghz

I just purchased a mac mini 2.0ghz that came with Leopard.
Since I am relatively new to the MAC world, I assumed that I could immediately replace Leopard with Tiger on the HD using a set of mac mini install discs I had previously purchased on eBay (I'm doing this because this mini was going to be used exclusively to run ProTools - which isn't Leopard compatible)
From the little bit I've read, it looks like I may have made a $800 mistake. Most places are saying that it it absolutely impossible to downgrade from Leopard to Tiger on this late model.
Is that really true? I just find it so hard to believe that the hardware and software are so tied together that you can't ever go 'backward' even if you want to.
Could someone please state clearly once and for all if there is any possible way to downgrade or do I need to throw my new mac mini in the proverbial trash can and chalk this one up for the experience?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This issue was raised by another poster very recently (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1497891&tstart=0). Typically Macs cannot be booted from MacOS versions which predated the release of the hardware, or subsequent firmware update perhaps, but since Leopard was not released until after the current Core 2 Duo minis, it goes without saying that at least some of these systems did in fact have Tiger installed.
If Apple have made no hardware or firmware changes to the mini (and it's a big if, because typically that information is not made available), then Tiger should install and run fine on your system, proving only that the Tiger installer you have is actually from a 'late 2007' Intel mini.
The only way you'll know is to insert the Tiger installer you have, and boot the system holding the C key down (you will need a wired USB keyboard which is NOT one of the new aluminium type). If the system boots, then you should be able to do an install. Bear in mind that you will almost certainly get an error stating you cannot install that version of MacOS on the system because it will detect that you have a later version of MacOS already installed than on the install disk. That's normal. You can get around that by clicking the 'options' button on the installer and selecting 'erase and install', which wipes the hard drive and installs MacOS.
If the system will not boot from the Tiger install disk, then in effect that would confirm that you will not be able to regress the macOS version - at least not by any conventional means. There are always some who investigate and find ways to work around some of these limitations, so there may be an unofficial and unsupported workaround out there, but there would be no way to know how stable it would be, and whether you would be able to successfully update it.

  • How do i track apple sending a new leopard disc using the fulfillment no.?

Service at apple has said that they are going to send me a new version of leopard and they give me a "gulfillment" number but i cant figure out how to track this online. any ideas?

I am in the same boat. Apple tech support said they would send me new replacement Leopard discs that came with my SR macbook. They gave me a fulfillment nnumber. This was on Dec. 19. These discs still have not been delivered. And I have not received any email to confirm its been shipped and no email with a tracking number. I am totally in the dark.
What's frustrating is that I cant install a retail version of leopard nor can I install Tiger because the installers for those are not compatible with the SR Macbook yet. So I have a macbook that is about a month old with no functionality.

  • Need serious help with insatlling Leopard problem! Im gonna cry soon

I got a replacement Leopard DVD today from Apple, I lost original. So I installed it and all seemed fine but after it said it had to restart, I just have the blue scree, apple logo and spinning grey ball. My hard drive failed last week and I had to go back to Tiger on new hard drive and I have this cloned on external hard drive. What should I do. Please any suggestions will save my nerves from fraying any further! Thanks, Tracy

you have to give people time to respond. Posts often get replied to hours after they are posted. double posting is against the forum rules and is liable to result in deletion of your posts.
I have a repalcement Leopard DVD, I cancelled last time so Im trying again after booting from disc and verifying HD. Will post back. What does kernal Panic mean,
    who mentioned kernel panics?
I don't believe you've had one. when a kernel panic happens you'll see a message in several languages that your need to restart your computer by holding down the power button. did you have one of those? You also, didn't answer my question. what kind of install are you doing? do you have tiger on your system right now? are you trying update and install? I think with a failed install you need to do an erase and install. boot from the leopard install DVD, reformat the hard drive using Disk Utility from Utilities menu and proceed with an erase and install.

  • Upgrade to Snow Leopard using TC

    Hi,
I've decided that it's probably time to upgrade to Snow Leopard (hoping most of the issues have been resolved) and have a back up of my entire system on a TC. The thing is I was thinking about doing a clean install, wipe my entire HD and start again. What I need to know is if I install SL on my MBP can I get all my stuff from my TC back onto my machine?
Sounds like a stupid question I know, but what I mean is I don't want the TC to put all the stuff back on my machine including 10.5!
How would I go about doing this and will it remember all my preferences, keychains etc?
    Thanks in advance
Oh, I almost forgot, would there be any issues doing it as suggested above, e.g. would I have problems with my third party software not loading as it doesn't see it as registered, would I need to enter the serial numbers again? The only reason I mention it as I know what an absolute nightmare Adobes software is and trying to reactive it!!

There's rarely any benefit to that.
Just install OSX. It will replace Leopard with Snow Leopard, and not disturb anything else.

If you really want to do that, erase your HD, install OSX, then when it boots up, use +Setup Assistant.+ That will transfer everything but OSX, if you take all the defaults. See #19 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions

In a few cases, yes. That's one of the reasons not to erase it all so you can just bring it all back.

  • Macbook Pro Superdrive damaged Leopard Install DVD

I purchased OS X Leopard recently and after backing up my data, I did an upgrade installation of Leopard and during the disk verification, the Superdrive emitted a strange buzzing noise and a minute later I received an "Installed Failed" error screen and was prompted to reboot. I rebooted and ejected my Leopard DVD and found a ring of scratches toward the center diameter of the DVD. I decided to try the installation again and skipped the disk verification. It installed Leopard successfully but when I went into the OS and tried to preform certain functions or open certain apps, the Macbook Pro would either freeze, or I'll get the grayed out screen telling me to hold the power button. After that frustration, I just did a HD wipe and did a clean install of 10.4 Tiger. I wish to install Leopard and I also fear my Superdrive failing on me again (since then, I've only had one other disc scratching issue).
If I have to get my superdrive replaced, would I get a replacement Leopard DVD?

    Call & ask Apple.

  • White Macbook has folder with a question mark inside when powered on.

My brother has a white macbook given to him from a friend and when it is powered on it shows a folder icon with a question mark in the inside flashing and it doesn't boot. He has sent me on a quest to get a power adapter and a new hard drive, He thinks the hard drive is fried. Does anyone know for sure if thats the case, I just don't want to buy all that stuff to figure out that the logic board is dead or something else irreplaceable. There is no backup disks, all I have is a replacement leopard disk from apple used for my mac mini.

If it is a retail Leopard disc--black with a giant purple X on it--then yes, you could use them, with a couple of caveats. One, it would technically be a violation of the license to use that install of Leopard on more than one computer, and terms of use on this forum forbid me from encouraging such an action. And two, depending on how old this used MacBook is, your install of Leopard may pre-date manufacture of the MacBook and, as a result, not be able to boot the MacBook anyway. However, judging by the info in your signature, that is probably not a problem.
If the disc for your Mini is gray and shipped with or was meant to ship with the Mini, then no, the disc will not work.
I still encourage you to get the system discs that came with the MacBook originally, as they have the Apple Hardware Test included, and, as I suggested above, running any OS (or other Apple software) on a Mac without the discs means technically it's an unlicensed copy.

  • How do I reinstall mac os x 10.5.8 without a full install dvd?

I am needing to reinstall Mac OSX 10.5.8 but don't have the original disk the macbook came with. I have tried using a Snow Leopard full install DVD but I keep getting the error message of "OS X cannot be install on this macbook" (paraphrased). I have tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM but still nothing.
Any one know how to do this?

Using a Snow Leopard install package will not re-install Leopard.
If you tried using a Snow Leopard install package to install Snow Leopard that shipped with a new Mac purchase, the OS X install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model specific.
Contact Apple or AppleCare to request a replacement Leopard install package that shipped with your Mac when new.

  • My iPhone playlist has dissapeared, how can I get it back?

My iPhone playlist has dissapeared, how can I get it back?

I'm very new to this sort of thing, so bear with me.  I had my computer in to the Apple store on Jan 10th, & they replaced Leopard with Snow leopard because of problems.  I have iphoto 8.
This morning opening my computer a picture briefly appreared that I had saved to iphoto. I decided to place it in its correct event box, and  ! sign appeared.  Upon opening iphoto, I found a blank.  I've not backed up my files.  I've looked everywhere on the system, including Trash, applications, Pictures, all my document files.
Also I had 2 icons  of iphoto on my desktop because it had disappeared 2 years ago & came back some months later.  Two days ago I decided to clean up my desktop & moved the icons to the pIcture  file and a document file.  I don't know whether this triggered the disappearance. The main icon is still in the dock.
    Does this help?

  • Not Upgrading to 10.5 until Stacks can be disabled

It has been chronicled elsewhere...and having tried it at work...
-Icons in dock are useless and changing
    -Can't quickly browse into subfolders
-finding the right app/doc in grid or fan requires more mousing than from the old list view.
Definitely Apple's poorest UI choice in a long time. Can't possibly see how this is supposed to improve workflow. Bigger does not mean faster. Nor does more colorful.
If Stacks opened a text only version of the "grid" I might be able to live with that, but......
Sorry - needed to say this so ....maybe.... someone at Apple sees it.

If you're set on the Tiger dock, you can use it in Leopard if you really want (Source: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=79992&page=2):
"I replaced Leopard's Dock.app with the one from my Tiger backup. Takes it back to the black triangles instead of the blue dots too!"
    cd /System/Library/CoreServices
    sudo mv Dock.app Dock-LeopardBackup.app
    sudo cp /path/to/tiger’s/Dock.app ./Dock.app
    sudo chown root Dock.app
    sudo chgrp wheel Dock.app
    killall Dock
There are also some freeware/shareware utilities around that will let you get some of the functionality of Tiger's dock back without replacing Leopard's. Use Google to search around.
EDIT: The method of replacing the dock above may cause weird bugs. In the forum thread I linked to, you can find info about an installer someone came up with and tested that will go through the process for you.

  • IMacG4: DVD shows on desktop, but installation stops after a minute

With my iMac G4 (1.2 ghz + 1 gig dram), the Leopard DVD shows on the desktop. Go thru the install process, selecting "Erase and Install" on an external drive ... stops after about a minute or two with "Cannot install on this disk .. cannot validate(???) some files".
I've poured over this Discussion Board and have seen several other identical instances. I also have a DVD with no mfg or date stamp on either its inner or outer rings; further, the Apple logo is completely transparent.
I called Apple Tech Support, got bumped up to Level 2 Tech Support where I was told that I have not scientifically demonstrated that it is not my third-party (LaCie) firewire drive. That is mathematically true; however, with the volume of similar issues reported on this Forum, I reject this hypothesis as reasonable.
To continue, I called Sales and found a very nice gentleman with whom I shared every detail of my history, including the comments by Level 2 Tech Support. The sales person agreed to send me a replacement Leopard disk which I am expecting later today. Further, I intend to return my existing Leopard disk via snail mail.

    To continue ...
I have also scoured macfixit.com and noted their detailed procedures to first clone the Leopard disk to one partition of an external drive, select this partition as the start-up drive, anf finally reboot the Mac and follow the instructions on "Erase and Install" on another partition or another external drive.
If the second Leopard disk fails, then I intend to meticulously follow the above cloning procedure.
Just one more thing, and this goes back to my frustrating experience in installing the then-brand new iWork 08. I proved beyond any scientific doubt that this installer demanded that there be no remnants of previous versions of iPages or Keynote anywhere. So I trashed these remnants and the subsequent installation was successful.
I am curious if this unreasonable requirement pertains to any of the individual installs that are part of the overall Leopard installation procedure??
