Replacement Leopard Discs

About a month ago, I bought a new Macbook Pro with Leopard. I want to install XP on the machine, but having read through the Boot Camp instructions, I found out that I need the Leopard CD after the installation.
No problem I thought, but then I couldn't find the CDs. They've completely disappeared, and I have a horrible feeling that someone might have thrown them away!
Is there anyway of completing an install of XP without the Leopard CD for the drivers? And if the worst comes to the worst, do I just have to buy a new Leopard disk? Or is there a way of getting a replacement disk?

Yes, just run bootcamp and follow the instructions. You will not be able to update the drivers, however. If you have an old version of BootCamp, you can temporarily use those drivers.

You will need a new DVD. There are many other things on the DVD that you will need for troubleshooting, system repair, etc.
As DaddyPayCheck notes, contact Apple.

  • Where can I get a replacement Leopard disc to reinstall

  • How do i track apple sending a new leopard disc using the fulfillment no.?

Service at apple has said that they are going to send me a new version of leopard and they give me a "gulfillment" number but i cant figure out how to track this online. any ideas?

I am in the same boat. Apple tech support said they would send me new replacement Leopard discs that came with my SR macbook. They gave me a fulfillment nnumber. This was on Dec. 19. These discs still have not been delivered. And I have not received any email to confirm its been shipped and no email with a tracking number. I am totally in the dark.
What's frustrating is that I cant install a retail version of leopard nor can I install Tiger because the installers for those are not compatible with the SR Macbook yet. So I have a macbook that is about a month old with no functionality.

    As Niel pointed out, yes.  The disk probably will look like the MBP disk (4) in this screenshot;

  • Can I restore my system after replacing my hard drive with the original leopard discs, then use my time machine backup (with Snow Leopard) to finish the restore?

I am replacing my original 100gb hard drive for a 500gb.  I am currently running OS X.6.7.  I understand the process of how to install the new drive and restore the system from the disc.  What I am unsure of is whether I need the Snow Leopard disc or can I use the original Leopard discs and then plug in my time machine backup to complete the restore?

How do I restore my entire system?.
or, use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current system to an external HD, replace the HD, then clone the clone back to the new drive.

  • MBP will not boot-up from Leopard disc/externel drive without getting a K.P

I have been getting Kernel Panics since updating the system, while I was using Tiger OS X, I have Installed Leopard OS X now thinking it would get rid of the problem but hasn't. Now I cannot boot into the system at all, even using the Leopard DVD/Externel Hardrive. I did take it into an Apple store today and they changed the RAM to see if that was the problem but had no luck, I was told it is proberly to main motherboard and would cost alot to replace. Has anybody got any other suggestions I could do or try? I am losing hope for this MBP.
All of a sudden it booted up with the retail Leopard disc inside and I started to install it but it came up with an error message half way thourgh installation. Message said Installation could not be completed please check your media and try again.

I'd suspect errors/bad sectors on the hard drive, insert the Leopard DVD and Boot it up while holding down the 'shift' key (to enter Safe mode) - this can find and fix a lot of errors.

  • Using the Leopard disc provided with a new Mac with other Macs

    Hello,
A couple of weeks ago I bought a Macbook Pro that included the Leopard disc, which hadn't been installed on the machine. I went away last weekend and when I returned, my house had been burglarized and my brand new Macbook Pro was gone. I would like to get another Macbook Pro to replace it, but I can't afford to pay full retail once again so I am looking into getting a used one. Anyway, I'm wondering if I were to buy one that didn't included Leopard, would I be able to install it from the disc that came with my old Mac?
    Thanks,
    Grant

No lawyers are necessary, no debate necessary either. Just read the license agreement.
FWIW - the license restricts you to using the software only on an Apple-branded computer, and only one computer per licensed copy of the software. The license does not require you to use the OS on the same computer that you purchased (I'd encourage you to read the license when you attempt to install to verify my statements -- the license is presented and you have to agree to it before the installation goes forward).
I only have the Tiger license in front of me right now, but it has all sorts of interesting tidbits in it. Technically speaking, using iChat in a commercial setting is prohibited, as is MPEG2 encoding, modifying files in a .app folder, encoding MPEG4 and H.264 is restricted to personal and noncommercial uses, using the AMR codec with a mobile device is prohibited, as is divulging flight information you obtain through the Flight Tracked widget to a third party.
As far as licenses go, it's pretty friendly. Microsoft, for example, has had licenses that prohibit benchmarking or testing their software, or using MS Word to write disparaging comments about their company; MS even had a warning at one time against using their operating systems in critical applications such as life-support, medical and weapons systems. Microsoft still requires its licensees to submit to license compliance audits on demand.

  • Replacement Leopard DVD

    Hi,
I recently ran disk utility to make sure my HD was still ok, and it said I need to repair the disk. Unfortunately, I haven't got my DVD anymore (lost it when I moved out of my university halls).
Is there a way to get a replacement leopard dvd or something that I can use to repair the disk? The 12 month warranty expired in December, and I stupidly didn't take up the extended apple care.
I don't mind having to pay a shipping charge, but I'd rather not have to go out and buy the retail dvd.
    Thanks

Restart the computer with the Shift key held down; this quietly runs a disk repair utility.
    Here's more on Neil's instructions:

[Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394]
Note that any repairs are not as effective as when booted from your installer disc.
There's also [fsk in Single User Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214] and [Post by japamac about using fsk|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1649143&tstart=0] I believe using this from SUM is more effective than Safe Mode, but again not as good as when run from your installer disc.
Call Apple Customer Support (http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html ). Provide the serial number and specifications of the Mac. They may be able to provide a replacement set of discs for a fee. These discs will be for whatever OS was installed on the computer originally, so if you have an upgraded version you will need to obtain the discs some other way.

  • I have zero out all data on my imac, as i brought it second hand and the disk the guy supplied dont seem capatable with my imac to install the operating system again so it is frozen at the grey start up screen. show i buy a new snow leopard disc fromapple

i have zero out all data on my imac, as i brought it second hand and the disk the guy supplied dont seem capatable with my imac to install the operating system again so it is frozen at the grey start up screen. should i buy a new snow leopard disc from apple and install that as my new operating system. please help as had the computer a month now and still cant use it yet.

You can call AppleCare and request a replacement set of the original DVD's that shipped with the computer for a nominal charge. You will need the serial number (look on the bottom of the stand) and a credit card. Click the AppleCare Contact Info link. Without knowing which iMac you have it's very difficult to say if a new SL disc would work or not.

  • How to restore my mac (using OSX Snow leopard disc)

I recently purchased an iMac10,1. I purchased it with OSX 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion) already installed... I contacted the seller asking for the original OS discs...  he never replied :/. I have recently resold the Mac on ebay... When I went to wipe clean the computer I encountered a problem.. When I went onto this forum and called apple they encouraged me to purchase the original install OS (Snow Leopard). I have recieved snow leoipard in the mail... When I popped the disc in i recieved this message:
How do I reboot/resart/reformat the computer to factory settings?

    Try doing this instead:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
If this doesn't launch the installer, the contact Apple about replacing the disc they sent to you.

  • My Leopard Disc has a scratch one it

My Leopard disk that I got has a scratch on it, do you think apple will replace my disc for no charge or not? And what are the steps to get a new disc so I can install leopard back onto my Macbook?

    Yes
And what are the steps to get a new disc so I can install leopard back onto my Macbook?
Call them or go to an Apple store with the scratched DVD.
You might also see if you can make a copy which may work since the copying process may reread the scratched area until it gets the proper data from the DVD. No guarantee on this, but others have had success doing this. Remember, it's a dual-layer DVD.

  • Leopard Disc under warranty?

Are apple leopard disc under warranty? I accidentally broke mine yesterday anyone know?

Are apple leopard disc under warranty? I accidentally broke mine yesterday anyone know?
If the disk was damaged when you first opened it then you would be entitled to a replacement, accidental damage however is not covered under warranty. That comes under insurance. Your house insurance may cover it but normally the excess you have to pay would be more than the cost of a new leopard disk.

  • About the Apple Hardware Test in Replacement Application Disc...

I would like to know if an Applications Disc replacement ordered from AppleCare will include the Apple Hardware Test or AHT. A few months ago I had to reorder both my OSX install and Application disc because they were damaged out of the box. Now I know that Apple send the correct disc because the replacement disc have the same part number as the original ones, however the replacement application disc does not have the small test that says: "For Apple Hardware Test, press down the "D" key on startup." (or something like that) as the original one does. Which makes me wonder if indeed the replacement application disc sent by AppleCare really includes the Apple Hardware Test.
Tell me what you think, Does a replacement Application disc sent by Apple include the Apple Hardware Test?
Now, I must tell you that my current complementary phone support has expired and I am waiting to get AppleCare but that won't be after January 2011 (I am a college student, and I am saving money for the AppleCare extended warranty).
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

AHT is on the original OS X Install disc that came with the computer! Had you read the Apple Advice Letter I posted earlier you would have seen that.
I understand that, however my MacBook Pro is a 2010 one and the report says that the Apple AHT is in the Applications Disc since it was bought in a Snow Leopard era. The article clearly states that after 10.5.5 AHT will be in the original application disc that comes in your computer, and as posted above my application disc was damaged out of the box. That's why I odered a replacement application disc. However, the new application disc does not have a text that indicates that says "For Apple Hardware Test, press the "D" key on start up" as the original application disc, it just says 15" MacBook Pro Application disc. I assume that the AHT should still be in the replacement disc because it has the same part number as my original disc. Anyways, I read the whole article and it does not mention anything about AHT in AppleCare replacement disc.
I hope this clears up some things about this post.

  • MacBook cannot read Snow Leopard disc

I've got a strange problem. I bought a Snow Leopard upgrade disc. I installed the new OS without any problems on my iMac.
Now, I cannot do it on my 15" MacBook Pro. When I try to insert the disc, the drive tries to read it for a little while, then spits it right out. It keeps doing it. After many attempts, I did eventually get it to read it once. The installer loaded, and began doing its thing. A short time later, when I came back to my MacBook, it had reset and still showed the original version of the OS. I assume it must have crashed during the install. Now I can't get it to read the disc again.
The disc itself is fine. It's not dirty. As I said, I installed it on my iMac.
I did read about similar trouble on another forum. People had replaced their discs but that didn't help. Anyone here have any ideas? I've had no trouble reading other DVD's in this drive, by the way. And I don't have any weird applications loaded, other than Norton Antivirus.

Yes, you can clone the installer disc to an external hard drive or flash drive (minimum 8 GBs) and boot from that.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external or flash drive.
    Source means the DVD.
Be sure your destination drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled.
You can also install from another computer if you can connect the two by FireWire. See Installing Tiger without a DVD drive. The article applies to Tiger but will work with Leo or Snow.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
