Replacement "MacBook Pro" engraved letters under display?

Under every MacBook Pro display, is the words, "MacBook Pro" engraved in shiny glossy silver type.
After 13 months of good use, I discovered that the "r" somehow fell off recently.
My MacBook Pro is well-maintained and surely the problem lies in manufacturing - they needed to apply a bit more super glue =P
My question is -- has anyone else had this problem and can they get a replacement "r" from Apple? If so, was it free; if not, how much?
Alternatively, are there third-party solutions?
It's just that "MacBook P o" doesn't have quite the same 'ring' to it!!!!
Thanks

Nevermind! I found it!! The "r" got STUCK inside the MagSafe (an unintentional benefit of the MagSafe adaptor, I think!!!!) --- eventually managed to retrieve it with a bit of tape, and then stuck it back onto the MacBook Pro with the clear plastic that holds the replacement battery!
This was where the "R" was hiding: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mintchocicecream/486484195/

My Macbook Pro is still under limited warranty. Is it possible to upgrade my pro to retina display by going in to the store?

You can only exchange or upgrade your macbook pro for a retina macbook if you are within the 14 days purchase time frame. After the 14th day, you are no longer eligible for an exchange or any upgrade but only for free repairs.
Limited warranty doesn’t mean you would be eligible for an exchange or an upgrade, but its a time period in which your existing macbook hardware and software issues are rectified free of cost.

  • MacBook Pro Retina with Thunderbolt Display Issues

I have issues when connecting my MacBook Pro to the Thunderbolt Display when I don't do a fresh boot of the MacBook Pro.  It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the Thunderbolt Display usually turns on succesfully, but none of my USB devices (mouse, keyboard) respond and when I try to disconnect the Thunderbolt, the MacBook doesn't realize it's been disconnected and thus I'm just left with the background screen and have to shut it down by holding the power button for a few seconds.
With a fresh boot, everything works fine.  Are you supposed to have to shut down and restart everytime you hook up this monitor?  Has anyone had these issues?

I have the exact same issue. I hauled the TB Display into the Apple Store 3 times and finally they replaced it. Come to find out this new one has the same issue still. So It has to be rMBP related at this point. Unfortunately I don't think I have it under warranty still and the issue is hard to demonstrate. I recorded videos of it but every time I go into the store and plug it is the same as switching the speakers from internal to external and it takes 30-60 mins before it degrates to scratching sounds.
Please let me know if you ever foudn a solution. Im going to try to keep taking it in until I can get this resolved.

  • My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • Is it possible to replace Macbook Pro Retina's battery?

I have a Late 2012 macbook pro retina and after 2 years of working with it, it has a problem with battery. Yesterday it gave me a notification that the battery is in  "replace soon" condition. I would like to know if the battery replacement is possible on this model? Also i don't think we have a apple store in my country and I would like to know where can I take it, to solve this problem?

The battery in the 2012 retina MBP is difficult to replace due to it being glued in place. See the iFixit teardown here: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Retina+Display+Mid+2012+Tear down/9462
To have the battery replaced it really needs to be done by Apple either at a store or shipped back to them. Go here to see what your options are by country:
    https://www.apple.com/support/country/
There may be local non-Apple repair shops that will do this work, but you are taking your chances with them. Good luck!

  • Replace MacBook pro keyboard

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro 15" (still under warranty) that I bought in the US.
I am moving to France for a while and I'd like to change my qwerty keyboard to an azerty.
I went to the Apple store today and asked if I could buy/order an azerty keyboard (so I could replace it myself). Apparently, I can't order it and I would need to let Apple do this for me if I don't want to void my warranty. I am fine with that but I am also wondering if I will also get the qwerty keyboard back? Will I also be charged to change it back? Or will that be covered by my warranty?
    Thanks,
    Benjamin.

    Hi Benjamin,
    Firstly welcome to the discussions.
My suggestion would be that you simply ask them.
Although this discussion board is run by Apple it is essentially a "peer to peer" help and discussion board, rather than a means of accessing Apple views on such things directly. You can't expect an official reply from Apple here.
My own suspicion would be that you would be perfectly entitled to ask to keep the old keyboard, and I very much doubt that Apple would deny you this, assuming you pay full price for the replacement. In many parts of the world (not sure where you are) consumer affairs laws would actually make it mandatory that they did so if you requested it, unless you were provided with "trade in" pricing or somesuch.
If/ when the time comes to change it back you will presumably be charged the necessary fee once again, minus the cost of the keyboard. It may pay you to "shop around" different Apple authorised service providers in such a situation.
I'm afraid swapping out a keyboard in an MBP is far more complex than in things like the old iBooks, though, so don't be surprised if the fee is still substantial.
But, as I said, your best bet is to approach Apple (or a local Apple Authorised Service Provider ) directly about these sorts of things. We can all guess here, but it won't be an answer "straight from the Apple's mouth"!
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Looking at Refurb MacBook Pro 13" with Retina Display... Which is best for video editing?

    Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing my current 2010 MacBook Pro with something newer. I do quite a bit of video editing with Final Cut Pro X and some webdesign in Dreamweaver CS6 or Wordpress on Chrome. I need something that will be able to render the Final Cut videos. I'm looking at the refurb 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with retina display, an i5 and 8GB of ram, OR a 2013 13" with 4GB of ram and the Intel Iris Graphics... Which is better? I've heard really great things about the Intel Iris Graphics, but is having the 8GB of RAM more important?
    Thanks for your help!

I would think if you are going to run both of those programs at the same time, or even one at a time, a system with discrete graphic would be a better fit for you.
The next question is if you are doing web design do you really need a retina display. At this time only apple has them so everyother computer viewing your web designs wouldn't see the difference, if there is any to begin with.

  • Pink color cast on macbook pro 15" with retina display

    Hi,
I just got my very first apple computer a few weeks ago, but I had a annoying pink color cast of the display.
I changed my first deivce but even the 2nd had the same issue..
I noticed, that even the Apple logo shines in a pink cast, so it seems to be an issue of the display light itself.
Trying to calibrate the display with a spyder did not work, i got a very strange green color cast what seems to be clear, if the main problem is not the display itself,
    but the display light.
I went to the Apple Sore in Hamburg and I found out, that all new macbook pros 15" with retina display had the same issue, but not older macbooks or some  macbook pro 15" with retina display from clients.
As a photographer, I find this pink cast very annoying and I gave back my 2nd macbook pro 15" with retina display..
Is there a way, to get a macbook pro 15" with retina display without a pink cast, where the Apple logo shines in pure white instead of a pink color cast?
I don´t want a pink apple logo, nor a display with a pink cast..

    HERE IT IS:
3x Logic board replacement (Warranty). I had to replace three logic boards for this one poor sod that had the same issue over and over again. In the end Apple gave him a whole new computer.

  • I am trying to connect my HDTV to my MacBook Pro using a Mini Display Port to HDMI and the TV seems to not be receiving any signal. Is there something wrong with my TV or Adapter?

Whenever I connect the minidisplay port to the HDMI cable, my MacBook Pro screen turns blue for a moment and then nothing shows on my HDTV. I have tried to "detect displays" with each resolution listed, but none seem to work with my tv. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

  • How to turn a Macbook Pro into a second display for another Macbook Pro

So my school just gave me a Macbook Pro and I already have a Macbook Pro. I would like to know if I could turn my school Macbook Pro into a second display for my regular Macbook Pro. Thank You!

If you need administrative access and it is denied to you, then there is no way, as ScreenRecycler and AirDisplay do need administrative access to be installed.
