Replacement Path using Query Output

Hello Forum
We have a requirement where we have to use the output of a query as an input for the second query.
To achieve this we thought of implementing a replacement path variable on query 2 which would use the output of query 1 to execute query 2.
However on implementing we are facing an abort during query runtime saying "Variable cannot be replaced in query Brain 442"
Our query 1 is created on a Multiprovider and query 2 is created on an infoset.
Replacement path variable is created on a "Z" infoobject which is a replica of 0Material.
Can anyone please advice what could be the possible reason and how it can be solved.

Ashish

  • How do I...Mimic Replacement Path with Query using Customer Variable Exits?

    Hello SDN:
We are on BW 3.5 SP16.
We are currently using a replacement path Query(RP) with variables
to populate a variable in another Query(T).
The problem we are having is with performance.
The entry of variables in replacement path Query(RP) is optional (This is necessary there cannot be required values)
When results from Replacement Path Query are small performance is fine. (e.g. 10 seconds)
When results from Replacement path query are large performance suffers. (e.g. 1+ minutes)
Users are free to leave the replacement path variables empty resulting in a large set of data to be replaced. This is the worst performance case.
We would like to discover a way to conditionally execute the replacement path query. That is if users do not enter values for the replacement Query(RP) variables do not execute the replacement path query(RP).
Does anyone know if this is possible within reason and in customer exit space?
We have reviewed the situation from all angles and the requirement for the replacement path FUNCTIONALITY and the freedom for the user to leave variable values blank remains.
I've been searching and reading SDN and SAP notes for about a week and do not find threads which address this situation.
We are also exploring Customer variable exits to mimic replacement path functionality

  • Can anyone give me examples of replacement path with query?

    hi all,
Can anyone give me examples of replacment path with query. if u have any docs pls send it across to my email id [email protected]
    thanxs
    hari

    Here is an example:
Lets assume you have a characteristic( Say Project)  with about 30 attributes. now your requirement is to display all 30 attributes and about 10 keyfigures and another characteristic and it's attributes...
If Project has about 25K projects in a Year, you will find its very difficult to diasply all the inofmation with one Query.(you may get disconnected from server after executing the query)..
So firstly, create a Query1 only with Project and keyfigures.
then create another Query2 only with Project and its attributes...here create a variable on Projeect with replacementpath and select the Query1.So you will have the Projects only from Query1.
Create Query3 with Project and other chars.create one more variable on Project with replacementpath select Query1 result. So this Query also gets Projects from Query1...
Now Query2 and Query3 get Projects from Query1 always...so you will have same Projects in your all 3 Queries..
Now crate a workbook and insert 3 Queries.make sure you insert Query1 lastly.Since last inserted query will be executed first...
You may use VBA or excel functionality if you want to see whole data in one sheet.
    Hope this helps.

  • Crystal Report using BW Query that contains replacement path (control query

I have a Crystal report built on a BW query.  The BW query contains a replacement path on a characteristic (as a control query).  The control query has additional variables that the main query is not using.  The crystal report is not recognizing any of the variables that the control query includes.  How do I get the crystal report to recognize the control query variables?

  • Replacement Path with Query

    Dear Experts,
We are facing problem where we had a query in which we are having the characteristic External Notiifcation and created varaible for the same and this variable is getting replaced with Output of another query i,e the procesing type for this variable is Replacement path.
We had results for the query which we are using in the replacement path and also the same values exists in the cube on which we built the second query in whcih we are using the Replacement path.
when we execute the current query, query was not showing any output.Any suggestions would be of great help.

  • Replacement Path with query---error

    Hi
I have one query 'B' which uses replacement path variable(with query  A) on 'Customer' infoobject in Global filter area.
So everytime,I execute query 'B',first query 'A' runs and gives some customers list who are active yesterday and today. This active customers list is fed into replacement variable in query 'B' and query 'B' shows its own result.
The problem,we have is,Query 'B' is showing some customers who are not in the list returned by query 'A'.
Any ideas, how I can fix this problem?
    Thanks.............

    Hi
    Thanks for your reply.
    Both run on same Multiprovider.
First thing is...this Customer infoobject is placed in Global filter area of Main Query and the infoobject has replacement path variable(with query on it).So the main query's data is limited to whatever customers that are given by replacement path query.
how can Main query show some customers data thats not been given by this replacement path query?
Second thing is...when user reported this error,he showed error in screenshots. When I ran query today, error is gone. Its showing correct.I reported to user and he informed that its happening now and then ....He gave one more example that happened today which is exactly of some type.....Main Query is showing customers that are not given by Replacement path query .....
    Any ideas?Thanks

  • How to replace # in the query output ?

    Hi experts,
In the query output and for a particular field in a record if there is no value then it is displaying as '#'.
Can  we replace '#' with any text or with any other value ?
    Regards,

    hello,
if you display the characteristics as Key u will get as '#'.
You can select as Text, then it will show 'Not Assigned'.

  • Replacement Path variable cannot be used in filter

After creating a variable of type replacement path with query I get the error message:
Errors: Variable ... cannot be used in 'Filter' 'Default Values'; remove
Does anyone know what is causing this message and how to prevent it?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    József.

    Thanks for your response Bhargava,
Your answer did help me find the solution. When using a replacement path variable with query, you can only use the variable in the Characteristic Restrictions part of the Filters (not in the Default Values).
The characteristic itself can still be used for navigation.
p.s. Found that when copying a query some links to structures, like restricted key-figures, are kept in the metadata repository, even after removing them from the query. This can also cause error messages.

    József.

  • Replacement Path Problem (Use in Local Formula or CKF?)

    Hello BW Experts,
I have a couple of questions for a query I am currently working on that uses replacement path variables.
    I am looking to calculate the difference between 2 dates (u201Ctodays dateu201D u2013 u201Cstatistics dateu201D)
The statistics date is a characteristic in the cube and for u201Ctodays dateu201D I am using a local formula using the SAP replacement path variable for todays date.
Currently I am using the replacement path in a local formula in the columns of the query and this is fine when the reference characteristic is in the querry rows i.e statistics date.
I believe the reference characteristic needs to be in the rows when using a formula variable replacement path in a local formula in the columns as if I remove the u201Cstatistics dateu201D from the rows the replacement path does not work.
The actual query specification requires the u201Cstatistics dateu201D to be a u201Cfree characteristicu201D not part of the rows so the replacement path using a local formula will not work if the u201Cstatistics dateu201D is in the u201Cfree characteristicsu201D
I have also tried using a CKF and using the same formula variable in this but it still did not work with the u201Cstatistics dateu201D in the rows?
Do you know of any solution?
Also could somebody explain what "Characteristic Reference (Constant 1)" means?
    Thanks in advance..
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
I think you are right in infering that the replacement path wouldnt work if you didnt have the reference characteristic key in the rows to enable the replacement.
I think, the solution for you could be Virtual Characteritic.
Have you already thought about this?
I am not aware about the characteristic reference(constant).

  • Regarding Variable Proc. Typ REPLACEMENT PATH

    HI EXPERTS,
CAN ANY ONE EXPLAIN HOW THE REPLACEMENT PATH VARIABLE TYPE HELPS IN REPORTS AND IN WHT SENARIOS WE CAN USE. PLZ EXPLAIN THIS WTH AN EXAPLE.
    REGARDS
    RAMAKRISHNA K

    Hi Ramakrishna,
just go throw the below description.
    Replacement Path
    Use
You use the Replacement Path processing type to specify the value that automatically replaces the variable when you execute the query or Web application.
    Integration
The processing type Replacement Path can be used with characteristic value variables, text variables and formula variables.
    Features
    The following options are available:
    Replace with Characteristic Value
Text and formula variables with the processing type Replacement Path can be replaced with a corresponding characteristic value. In the variables editor, on the General tab page under Reference Characteristic, specify the characteristic that is to be referenced by the replacement. In the Replacement Path tab page, you can choose whether the variable is replaced with the From or the To Value and with the Key or the Name of the characteristic value. You can also specify the Offset Start and Offset Length for the output.
    Replace with Query
Characteristic value variables with the processing type Replacement Path are replaced with the results of a query. In the variables editor, on the Replacement Path tab page, select the query whose result you want to use as the variable. You can now process the data result of the selected query as a variable in a different query.
    Replace with Variable
Characteristic value variables, hierarchy variables, text variables and formula variables with the Replacement Path processing type can get their values from a different variable.
The following prerequisites need to be fulfilled:
    Variable
    ●     The variable must not be input ready
    ●     The variable must represent a single value
    Source variable
    ●     The source variable must not be a hierarchy node variable
    ●     The source variable must be input ready
    ●     The source variable must be available in the query
    ●     The source variable must represent a single value or an interval
In the variables editor, on the Replacement Path tab page, specify the source variable from which the value is to be determined. The value is either determined from the key, the external attribute of the key, the description, or the attribute value. You can specify an Offset Start and an Offset Length for the output here.
The variable is replaced on the variables screen upon each data release.
    Activities
In the variables editor, on the General tab page, choose the processing type Replacement Path.
    Example
If you specify a variable as a characteristic value, you do not have to give a text for the characteristic value right away. Instead, you can fill the text field dynamically, according to the characteristic that you use for the variable when you execute the query. To do this, define a text variable with automatic replacement.
    Regards,
    Shailaja

  • Query output in APD shows zero values

    Hi ,
I am using query output in APD . The query has got some calculated key figures for which the output result of the query in APD shows zero .Is there any way to resolve this  .
    regards,

    Hi,
You need to store the source key figure value in a separate variable lets say v1 then **** the new variable v1 value to circular right, then remove the gaps, and then again shift V1 right by deleting trailing spaces and then finally copy the value in V1 to source or target key figure.
    Hope this helps.
