Replacement T61 WiFi and Battery

Hey Thinkpadders,
The short version:
I have a T61 7662-CTO 14.1" widescreen, circa 2007. I live in Australia and am looking to replace my wireless card and battery - from local suppliers if possible.
The long version:
My wireless card has been flakey since the day I recieved my laptop. The WiFi card in my system is an Atheros 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter II (sorry i dont know the FRU). The card works most of the time BUT often does not wake up when I put my laptop to sleep. Occasionally it wont even work after a cold boot. The only way to get the wireless working is to reboot (sometimes more than once). Anyway this is extremely annoying. Originally I thought it was a driver issue. After four years, two motherboards and five operating system I am sure I just got a dodgy card and I should do something about it! What are my replacement options (preferably intel) and from where?
I would also like to replace my battery. It recently went from very low capacity to absolutely none. Now I cannot operate without AC for any length of time. The FRU of my battery is 42T5229. It is a 9 cell battery but i would like to replace it with the (cheaper) 6 cell equivalent. Where is the best place to get these? Are third party (non-lenovo) batteries dodgy?
Thanks all!
Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!

Hello,
For the Wi-Fi card, you will want to make sure you get a model with a Lenovo FRU on it to ensure it is whitelisted in the BIOS.  From looking at this driver change log on Lenovo's web site, I believe the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (FRU: 42T0865) will work in your model of T61 but hopefully someone who has a 7662-CTO model will confirm this.
As far as the other questions about the battery and a local supplier, I am afraid I don't have a good answer there, but I am sure some of the other forum members can reply with answers to those questions.

i update my iphone4s to ios6.2.1 and i lost wifi and battery do not last long

Same problem here. Updated iPhone and the battery doesn't last more than four hours before getting to 20% and needing a recharge. Apple needs to address this soon before customers start jumping ship.

  • Problems with 8220 WiFi and battery

I'm not sure if these 2 problems are related. I've had a 8220 for 11 months and notice my battery life has really deteriorated the last few days. at the same time accessing WiFi from my phone is not as reliable. I know there is no problem with my Wifi as I have no problem accessing it from my laptop from the same connection.
Is this problem related to my battery? or are there other ways to improve WiFi connections from my 8220.
    thanks

I had exactly the same problem with WiFi calls (see my old posts on dropped calls).  I tested my phone in another WiFi location (in a coffee shop) and didn't have problems.  Even though my computer recognized the signal, my phone dropped the calls.  I changed my router and verified that all phones jacks (except the router) were using DSL filters.  Since then, the problem disappeared (except when I synch music).
When outside, the phone will periodically drop calls moving between WiFi and edge networks.  However, I usually turn off the WiFi network anyway to conserve batteries.  While at home, the WiFi connection is more reliable if I turn off the edge network so the phone stays on WiFi and doesn't look for another network.  By default, I set my preferences to WiFi at home, so even if I forget to turn off the edge network, it still looks for WiFi.

  • Since upgrading to 8.1 not connecting to WiFi and battery is going dead after 2-3 hours

Unfortunately, like most people I upgraded my iPhone 5 to the IOS 8.1.  Now I cannot connect to WIFI and my battery is draining after 2 - 3 hours.  I have deleted most of my apps but still no luck.  What a disaster.  Samsung is looking better and better, can anyone help before I take drastic measures and trade this phone in.

okay i managed to fix the issue with the graphics on archeage, everything no longer appears multiplied in different colors.
but i am still having the pixle issue.
But now i have also discovered a new problem and thought it wouldn't hurt to post it here also.
My mouse has become supper sensitive when playing my games, one little touch when trying to rotate the screen sends it into a frenzy and i end up looking at the sky or my characters feet. i didn't notice this before as i didn't even attempt to move with
the multiple color images everywhere. Also when holding down my screen rotation button it continues to rotate in that direction even though i am no longer moving the mouse that way.
I did notice that there was a patch for mouse issues so i tried to install it but it said i didn't have the requirements for it, so i assume it was included with the 8.1 update.
I have tried adjusting the settings in the games for mouse sensitivity, and it does not effect it, i even tried to adjust the computers but could not find the setting for what i was after. The mouse rotation button is holding the left or right mouse button
down and moving the cursor in the direction you want it to move. i couldn't see anything there that can help with that as the cursor speed is fine, its only happens when i try to rotate the screen.
Any help on this and my pixle issue would be greatly appreciated!

  • 2nd replacement iPhone 4S and battery is even worse!!!

So this is the second replacement iPhone 4S I received from an apple genius.
The battery life is even worse on this one. Down 1% every 2-5 minutes?! Fully charged at 109% and during usage, it went down to 90% in 45 minutes. All of the settings that have been recommended to turn off are off and still nothing.
Here's a list of all the settings that are off
    Ping
All the location advanced settings like setting time zone
    Automatic time change
    3G/data
    Most notifications
    Etc etc
Even after doing a DFU mode restore without any back up and no syncing any apps, music, etc, still the same
You know how annoying it is to be using your phone and you constantly see your battery percentage going down every 2 minutes?!
The genius that "helped" me yesterday was useless and rude.
Honestly, if it's a software problems, then why is it only iPhone 4s out of everybody in my family? That's 4 other people with the iPhone 4S and 2 people with the iPhone 4, all on 5.0.1 yet I'm the only one with the battery issues?
Yes it is weird that both replacement iPhones that I received has horrible battery life but I don't get how I'm the only one in the family that has this problem.
I'm so annoyed and i hate the "genius" that helped me yesterday.

sounds like it could be a software issue
i understand from all your saying regarding everything  is off, brightness is down, vibrate is off,3g is off, location off,no emails set up,time change,wi-fi,,etc etc
ok ,how long did you charge up your iphone for initally for ?
let the battery die ,leave it for a few hours ,(use another mobile if you need a mobile)
recharge the iphone, when you get sum power, unplug ,check for updates,do a reset, then reconnect to charge it,when fully charged, keep all your settings off.use as per usual .
see how your battery copes then,
again do same thing with letting battery die out before recharging.
if problem continues then i would take it back to the store
    good luck

    Hi to all,
I have a T61 and i'm trying to connect to the Internet with WiFi.
I have an access point by Zyxel and i'm able to connect well with my other two laptops (by dell). I use WPA2-psk and dhcp.

I'm going to update to sp3 and I would also like to update the ThinkVantage Access Connections following this link:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/tvsu-update.html
But i'd like to know: Will the update keeps the locations that i've configured (5) or will delete every configuration i made before?
    Thankyou in advance, torcH

I've done every update (win xp sp 3, thinkvantage, intel wireles drivers).

  • WiFi and Battery Power question

I've noticed that while in my house, if I leave my iPhone connected to my wifi network, when I unlock the phone, the "edge" logo is up for a few seconds until it reconnects to my wifi.
When the phone is locked, if the wifi is still enabled, does it drain the same amount of power as if it was locked with wifi disabled?

    Hey Tim,
The iPhone battery web page describes this and other tips to help get the most from your iPhones battery charge.
"Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi consumes power even if you are not using its features to connect to a network. You can turn it off to save power. Go to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi."

  • TS3899 Ios 6.1 has problem with wifi and battery drain. Want to go bac to ios 6.0

Have been having a lot of battery drain in my ipad and also intermittent wifi

    Mperez3100 wrote:
    Hi,
How can I Test my iPad WiFi & battery? is there a hardware test?
    A real easy test...
Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • SIII constantly searching for WiFi and battery draining extremely fast

Hi! So within the last week I notice my phone has been dying at an alarming rate (instead of going almost 16 hours without having to charge it I now have to charge it within 4 or 5 hours). Mind you my S3 is only 5-6 months old.  I have noticed within the past day that while at home my phone is constantly connecting to my WiFi. Also for most of yesterday my screen would not turn off and into power save mode after answering a text, phone call etc. (I would have to click the side to lock it and turn off the screen).  I ran a virus scan, which came back as clean.  After spending most of yesterday researching this problem online I have turned off the power save mode, which does not seem to have helped.I have also turned WiFi off.  Most responses on other tech sites apply to Sprint and AT&T who have different screen than Verizon. I have seen to enter into some hidden screen to enter this*#0011# but I am not sure if it's legit or not.  I have two apps on my phone outside of what is factory loaded from Verizon.  I do not want to keep my WiFi off all the time but I am desperate! Any suggestions? I have seen previous posts in which someone from Verizon just copies and pastes the same answer and Verizon please do not do that now!

        Hi DaniDee126,
The alarms have been heard and I am here to offer my personalized support! Did this seem to start after installing a new application or updating an existing one? When checking the stats in Menu>Settings>Battery, what are some of the top processes using the battery? Are you streaming music or videos more frequently? Have you adjusted your brightness settings to conserve battery life as well? I am more than happy to offer my help to increase the enjoyment of using such an awesome device!

  • WiFi, 2.1, and Battery Performance

Since 2.1 came out I seem to have some bad issues with WiFi and battery. If I leave WiFi on, plug my phone in, then go to bed, in four hours the phone is dead.
Currently, I've been on the phone for 3.5 hours with the phone plugged into AC. WiFi is enabled (so I can still get email), yet I just got a 20% warning.
It seems that now WiFi is always active. It is just chewing by battery away.

Read the output specifications on the old adapter. Do they match the new Adapter?
The new adapter provides 1 watt output. Is that the same?
Also, it seems to me your push is probably hozed. Are you pushing only email? or are you pushing calendar as well?
Someone posted the other day that a broken calendar on push can make the phone keep grinding and grinding and takes a lot of battery.
But you would thing that would affect 3G or edge as well.

  • Since upgrading my 4s to ios7 i cannot turn on my wifi and my battery life is halved how can i fix these probe?

my tech nephew told me to reinstall io7 as it has been updated to resolve these problems (cannot access wifi and battery life is halved) Is this true and what's the best way to reinstall ios7?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • WiFi loss & battery drain a software issue, not hardware

I wrote the commentary below after installing IOS 7 on a 4S and resultantly losing WiFi entirely and enduring major battery drain issues. After two trips to the Apple store and meeting with their techs at the "genius" bar, I was emphatically told that the issues were entirely hardware related and the only solution was to purchase a new phone. I was told there was nothing more to be done because the hardware was defective... either just use the not-so-smart phone as it is or buy a new smart one.
Well, here's an update on that story. I installed 7.0.4 last night and instantly my WiFi was back on and working. So far today, the battery seems to be back to normal as well, not draining like a giant hole in the levee. I don't know if this will be the same story for anyone else with similar problems. But I can say that the hardware-caused-storyline was bogus. Entirely time coincident with a software update (IOS 7), I lost WiFi and battery. And equally relative to the 7.0.4 update I immediately regained WiFi and battery.
I'm curious if others have experienced this same thing? And if Apple has an official explanation?

I  had a perfectly functioning iPhone 4S (64 GB) that I have been very   happy with and has always been glitch-free, good battery time, no   complaints. Until installing IOS 7.
Among other things, immediately upon "upgrading" to IOS 7 I have lost WiFi entirely (button greyed out).
Next, I found the battery drains to the point where I have to keep it   charging 2-3 times per day with extremely small phone usage. In a  normal  day, with 2-3 text messages, checking email 3-4 times and no  phone  calls, I am down to 30% battery by 3pm. Two days ago I turned  airplane  mode on at 9am with 98% battery and by 4pm batter was at 45%  with  airplane mode still on.
There are other problems, but those are the two primary issues.
I   went to the Apple store two times. The first time the technician   verified my problem, said there was nothing that could be done because   it's a hardware problem now and I would have to buy a new phone at full   price (my current cell contract isn't up until March 2014). He  suggested  a complete phone reset to "new phone" which I did and which  solved  nothing whatsoever. Same issues exist.
On  my second  trip to Apple just yesterday the technician looked it over,  checked the  battery function, etc. and I was told that the battery is  fine but that  the processor or something in the phone is working  overtime and draining  the battery. And again, I was told there is  nothing Apple can do other  than swap out the phone, though, this time  they would replace it for  $199.
I  was tempted to pay the $199 for a new 4S  that the technician said  would come with IOS 6. But so far I have  refused that offer without  some assurance that future IOS upgrades  wouldn't harm that phone as  well. Also, if I paid this now, then I  wouldn't upgrade when my  contract ended with Verizon and I was looking  forward to perhaps  getting a 5S then. I know that it's impossible to  assure that these  upgrade issues won't happen again to the next phone,  which finally  leads me to my questions...
Considering   the options I've been given thus far, what would someone more in the   know suggest I do? Is there any possibility of a software fix or did  the  "upgraded" software probably ruin the hardware?
As   a longtime Apple fan and someone who has owned the first Mac laptop  and  early desktops, I don't understand why Apple doesn't have better   customer service policies regarding their own software directly   affecting their own hardware adversely.

I have the same problem with WiFi and off, the issue was Google Play services, this is what I did settings > apps > all > google play services > clear data > uninstall updates > restart the phone > update the app > check again .

  • IPhone 6 Wi-Fi and Battery Problems

    Background info:
-- My first iPhone 6 kept randomly shutting down and turning itself back on while I was in various apps and on the home screen and also while the phone was on stand-by. I called Apple Support and they sent me a replacement without asking too many questions.
-- I don't know if my replacement is new or refurbished, although I'm assuming it's new since I received the replacement about 2.5 weeks after the release date of the iPhone 6, but who knows.
    Problem:
The replacement iPhone's wifi and battery.
    Wi-Fi:
    -- My replacement/current iPhone 6 is running iOS 8.0.2.
-- Trying to load anything while on wifi is so, so, so SLOW. I don't even use it on my phone anymore and I stick to cellular data because that is how bad it is.
-- I did NOT have this issue with my original iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2).
-- My iPad Air (iOS 8.0.2) has absolutely no problems with the wifi.
-- Resetting my network settings fixed the issue for literally 15 minutes before the problem started again.
-- Restoring the phone from backup does not work. Setting up the phone as new does not work.
    Battery:
-- My original iPhone 6's battery life was amazing. I could go through the whole day with heavy use with my cellular data and location on and still have a good 40% left on it. It took A LOT to kill even 10% of it.
-- My replacement iPhone's battery is absolutely pathetic. Light use (texting, browsing) with cellular data on and location off for an hour kills 20% of it.
-- Pretty much any "battery-saving" thing I can do is done (like turning off wifi, cellular data, and location unless it's absolutely needed).
I don't want to contact Apple for another possible replacement because I just feel weird about it. Obviously I will if I have to.
Do you guys have any suggestions or fixes? Please help!

I downloaded the Speedtest app on my iPhone and iPad and would randomly test one right after the other. I accumulated about 5 tests a day on each device over the course of 3 days. I set up an appointment at the Genius bar. I told the Genius that I set up my phone as new and then showed him my comparisons of the Speedtest on both devices. He handed me a new (non-refurbished because it hasn't been out for long) phone, no questions. Apparently it was a hardware issue and not an iOS 8 bug.
