Replacement - Tiger Installation DVD

My Tiger 4.8 Installation DVD set (MacBook Intel) was stolen. I did register my hardware and software with Apple (11/2006).
Other than buying another license of Tiger, what are my options to get it replaced? I don't really want to fork out another € 122,- for Tiger when Leopard will come out in 4 months.
I am having some system problems and would need to re-install Tiger.
Thanks.

Don't buy the Tiger retail disk. It will not work on your Intel Mac, and does not include iLife or the Hardware diagnostics. Call AppleCare and ask for a replacement of the original disk. They will charge you, but much less than buying the retail Tiger. They will need the serial number of the computer so they can send the correct version.

  • Why can't I open my retail Tiger installation dvd although it boots

    Hi,
I have problems with opening my original Tiger installation dvd. I already installed Tiger, but I need some data from the optional installs on the disk. But I don't get any access to the dvd. Its shown on the desk but whenever I try to open it it just failed. I can boot it by pushing C and starting from the dvd but I have no access when I just put it into my internal diskdrive. Does anyone have an idea?

  • Can't boot Tiger installation DVD

    I can't install tiger on a power mac G5 1.6 GHz from 10.3.9
because the installation DVD won't boot in any ways (automatic
asked from installer and manually with C command).
    Is there a solution ?
    Thanks

Also sometimes the 'C' key does not work for booting. Sometimes it is necessary to use the Startup Manager:

  • EMac/iMac tiger installation dvd

Can the Tiger DVD installation discs of an iMac or eMac be able to be installed on a G4 Powermac running Panther, please?
    Thanks in advance

You bet. Besides that you'd be violating the software terms of agreement you agreed to by installing an OS on several machines at the same time.

  • Cannot startup from Tiger installer DVD

I am not able to restart from the OS 10.4 DVD. After several seconds of spinning with the apple on the screen I get a circle with a line through it and the spinning just continues

simply mac wont start up from usb devices... u need
an external firewire device to be able to boot...
Okay, that helps me. My device will do firewire, I'll just have to find the correct cable.
While I'm here, lemme explain my situation.
Recently, my father purchased an iMac with OS 9.2 preloaded on it for me (I'm mainly a windows user, but I've used an OS X machine at school so I'm fairly comfortable with Mac, and I'm adapting to OS 9). After tinkering for a while, I came to the conclusion that in order to make full use of my Mac, I'd probably want to upgrade to OS X. So my father went and purchased a copy of OS X from owcomputing.com (I'm thinking it's preowned as the seal was previously cut and taped together).
As all disks are DVDs, and iMacs have a CD-ROM drive, I connected a USB DVD drive to it and atempted to install. I have a black disk, reads "Mac OS X Tiger CPU Drop In DVD" and mentions "This software is part of a hardware bundle--not to be sold seperately" (it was bundeled with software, but not hardware. So perhaps that may be a problem). When I click the restart button from the installer it tells me it could not set to start from that disk.
As besous here has said, that probably means it just doesn't like the USB connection, I'll seek a means to make it firewire. In the meantime, it's mentioned in this thread that the grey software discs may or may not work for me as they did not come with my Mac originally. They read "eMac Software Install and Restore" Discs 1 & 2. This once again suggests the CDs were bundeled with a Mac previously and now is being sold separately as that's entirely the wrong model of Mac.
ALAS, those grey discs also read they're "Mac OS version 10.3.3". The black one says "Mac OS version 10.4". Does this mean I can disregard the two greys as they're for the wrong model of Mac and for a lesser version? And I should be okay to install off the black disk once I hook up the firewire cord for my external DVD drive correct?

  • Cannot startup from Tiger installer DVD or any other CD

When I try to startup from a system CD , DVD, or Diskwarrior CD the system folders on the external media will not mount.

I have yet to see an Apple update that is responsible for an OS X installer not booting a computer.  The installer discs are self contained with their own bootable system.  It is independent of what may be installed on the hard drive.
I've been involved in beta testing Tiger updates as well as several security updates for Panther.  I have not run into a "bad Apple Update" problem.  It is possible to get a bad download, however, but that's not a problem with the updates themselves.
Just because other users experience similar problems does not always mean the problem is with OS X or OS X updates.  Many times the problem is with poorly maintained or corrupted systems that are not repaired before updates are applied.  Inexperienced users are frequently their own worst enemy.  Also keep in mind that for every user posting a problem on the Discussions, there are thousands having no problems whatsoever.

  • Whats the difference between a German Tiger install DVD and a English one ?

    Title says it all really.
Apples online store gives an option of German or international English Tiger (Intel). If I get a German DVD (the local language) can I install in English or not?
Delivery time tot the international English goes up from 24hrs to 5 days
    TIA.

You can install English language files for Tiger from the German Tiger installation DVD. The difference between the packages is likely the fact that the documentation which comes with the package is in a different language; you will get German documentation with the German package, and English documentation with the English package.

  • Tiger installer on HD?

Has anyone tried to clone Tiger installer DVD on a external HD and installed Tiger from there? If not I'll guess I need to try it myself. In some situations it would be nice to be able to install Tiger from HD (upgrade, busted DVD etc...)

    Yes and it works.
In fact made Netbootable installer from disk...
My reason for doing this was speed - using DVD takes ages, using HD only 5-10 minutes !
ONLY do this if you are making LEGAL copies.
I needed to update 100 machines...

  • Startup from Installation DVD wont work

I am trying to start up from my OS X Tiger Installation DVD, inserting the disc, restarting the computer, while holding C down on the keyboard, but it is continually starting up in regular mode. How can I get this to work, as I need to repair my disk volume in disk utility, and must startup from install disc somehow...
    Thanks.
    G

Make sure the installation disk you are using is either the disc which shipped with your Mac or a newer retail version. The disc which shipped with your Mac has your Mac's model name on it. The disc which is retail is either labeled * or * Older retail discs, and discs which came with other Macs will not boot your Mac.

  • Kernel panic when booting from Tiger install DVD

Short version: When I try to boot up from the Tiger installation DVD, my Power Mac G5 gives me a kernel panic. Can anyone help?
    Here's the story:
I have a Power Mac G5 that I've been running Leopard on for quite some time now. Unfortunately, the software I need to use (Final Cut Studio 1) has some incompatibilities with Leopard, so I was thinking I would put Tiger back on the machine in a separate partition on the second hard drive.
I tried booting the Power Mac using the retail (black label) Tiger DVD and holding down the "C" key. The Apple logo appears on screen, but is immediately followed by a kernel panic. I'm never able to access the features on the disc. The same thing happens if I try holding down "option" during boot instead: I'm correctly allowed to choose whether to boot from the hard drive or the DVD, but once I choose the DVD, I get the Apple logo and then a kernel panic.
The same Tiger DVD works fine on other computers, so I know it's not the disc. And the Power Mac itself handles everything else without problem.
I'm kind of desperate, as I need to finish this project this week. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!

  • Lost Installation DVD 1 - Replacement Options

Please tell me how I can replace my Macbook Software Installation DVD #1 since I have lost it. I have DVD #2, but can not find #1. What is the cost to get another one. Can I do it online since I am disabled? It's much easier that way.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You'll need to call AppleCare Support. They can provide you with a new set of disks. In the past, they've charged about $60 for a new set. You may also be able to go into an Apple retail store and order a set, but Apple does not provide support online or via e-mail. Apple uses a outside relay services for inbound and outbound TDD calls. Anyone calling Apple via a relay service should ask the relay operator to press zero to reach an operator.
As Alex mentioned, you won't be able to buy a retail copy of Mac OS X for Intel at any price (unless you want to buy the "universal" version of 10 client Mac OS X 10.4 Server for $499).

  • My MBP read DVD/CD but NOT Mac osX installation DVD (tiger or Leopard)

    Hi,
I read a lot of discussion but I didn't find the same problem.
So I have a MBP 15", 2.16Ghz intel core duo, and 2 Go RAM.
I have the 10.5.8 version installed, and I want to erase the disk and do a re-install of 10.5 because I've got some bugs :
    - my MBP starts really slowly (about 15min),
    - it bugs when I suspend the activity (black screen, nothing works... I have to push the "ON" button a longtime to stop the mac, )
    - and other ponctual bugs.
The problem is that my MBP don't read the installation DVD (leopard or even Tiger).
It reads the DVD, I heard that the DVD turns, but after 3/4 try, the MBP ejects the DVD.
But It reads Blank CD, DVD (many zone)... Only the installation DVD is not reading.
    I've already try :
-to begin in safemode (with SHIFT button => it is not ok)
    - to push "C" key" at the restart (it's not ok, the MBP eject before blue screen.. it seems that the MBP is waiting to eject the install DVD to start)
    - to create an other account (not ok)
    - to restart the V/P RAM 5 times (not ok)
So, Is there a solution ? If the Mac can read sometimes CD or movie DVD, that mean that the otpical drive isn't broken...
    I'm waiting your help
(sorry if there's some english mistakes !)

So, I've tried to start in target disc mod with a firewire.... Not lucky, I can read in the "information System" that my firewire is not recognized. It's weird because I can charge my ipod with firewire, but the target mode doesn't work !!!
    message in french :
    Bus FireWire :
Attention : Impossible de répertorier les périphériques FireWire.
(average Translate = impossible to index firewire's peripherals)
Do you have some solutions... I still not re-install MAC OSX... and I haven't an external HD (not in shop too !!)

  • Clean install Tiger 10.4.8 from another installation DVD

    Hello,
I'm preparing my PowerBook G4 for sale. I've decided to do a clean installation of OS X. I understand that I should boot from the backup installation DVD that came with the PB, then do the installation. Unfortunately, I bought the PB just after Tiger came out, so the backup contains a Panther installation. As the PB was delivered with a Tiger upgrade DVD, I would then have to upgrade Panther so that the purchaser has Tiger.
As my girlfriend just bought a MacBook Pro, I'm wondering whether I could use her backup installation DVD to install OS X 10.4.8 directly? Can I?
    Thanks
    Richard

    Hi Richard;
first off there is no such things as a clean install of OS X. The terminology of clean install comes from OS 9 and has never been officially used for OS X.
There are three ways to install, Upgrade, Archive & Install and Erase & Install. Upgrade assumes you have OS X already on the system so that it can be upgraded. A&I copies the old version of OS X to a folder called Previous System and installs a new copy of OS X. E&I does just that it erases the disk first then installs.
If you have a PowerBook and she has a MacBook, it technically impossible to use her install media because her is Intel based and your hardware is PPC based. No go.
Besides that it is illegal anyway. The install media with MacBook is a single license installation for the MacBook.

  • How do I install Tiger without DVD drive?

How do I install Tiger without DVD drive on a Powerbook?
My Powerbook had some problems recently, the HDD and the Superdrive where gone. I replaced the HD but can not get Tiger installed here because the DVD drive isn't working. I boot right now from a FW HD. Any Ideas how to install the OS on the internal drive?
    Any ideas would be apreciated.

I just tried it between a Power Mac G5 and a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) and it worked. The G5 was Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode. I started the G5 with the T with no DVD in the drive. I started up the G3, and the G5's hard drive appeared on the G3's desktop. I pushed the eject key (on the G5 keyboard) and the SuperDrive opened. I put in a DVD (the Tiger installation disk) and closed the SuperDrive. The DVD appeared on the G3's desktop. I restarted the G3 with the Option key held down, and the DVD in the G5 appeared as a valid startup choice."

  • Won't restart successfully after Tiger installation --- Help!

    Howdy!
I'm finally updating to OS X from 9.2.2. Everything was humming along smoothly with the installation. My computer restarted after installation, but then hung for quite a while on the grey apple screen with the twirlygig at the bottom of the screen, and then, horror of all horrors, a big circle with a slash replaced the apple... and there it stays. I have to manually reboot the machine to get it to restart to either the old 9.2 partition or from the 10.4.3 installation DVD.
From the Tiger DVD, I've verified and repaired the disk and permission (if didn't come up with any errors, but I repaired it anyway).
I've re-installed the OS with all devices except the keyboard unplugged -- nothing changed.
    Any ideas?
I'm trying to install it onto a 120 GB Maxtor internal drive that has not given me any problems in the past. The hd is partitioned for a 9 and X OS... I also still have the original 20 GB internal hd installed.
Should I try removing RAM that was added years ago? Or installing it onto the original 20 GB hd? Or will I have to try an Erase and Install? Will this option just erase the partition set up for OS X, or will it erase the entire hard disk?
    Thanks for any assistance.

    G4 AGP 450 MHz   Mac OS 9.2.x   856 RAM

I'm actually unsure if the version of Disk Utility on the Tiger Install disc can do an erase and install on one partition of a partitioned hard drive or if the erase and install wipes the entire HD; I'll have to check into that when I can. There was in the past a known issue where OS X had to be installed on the first partition of a partitioned HD; I believe that's no longer true, but the default at startup for OS X is to look for the OS X System on the first partition (if you hold the 'x' key down at startup to boot into OS X, that's the expected location). If the OS 9 partition is the first partition, that may be throwing the OS X Install restart off. You might check to see if using Startup Manager to select the second partition works. I'd also rename the partition from "OS X" to somethhing else (say "OSTen"), just to be safe.
