Replacing 2 CPU board with 1 CPU board in MacPro4,1

Does anybody know if it is possible to replace the complete dual CPU processor board (tray) of a MacPro4,1, with a single CPU processor board of the same model? I do not wish to use 2 CPU's anymore and downgrade to a single CPU to have more and cheaper upgrade options. Thanks!

I've done a bit more research here and stumbled over the following.
The MacPro4,1 (early 2009) apparently ships with 2 different Backplane boards:
Ver. 1 p/n: 661-4996, EEE codes: 1LT, 7A1
Ver. 2 p/n: 661-5444, EEE codes: CU7, DD4G, A71 BH7
The 8-core Processor board: p/n: 661-4998, EEE codes: 1LU, BXZ, DCVH
The 4-core Processor board: p/n: 661-4999, EEE codes: 4MF, BY0, DCVJ
According to the above, there is no specific Backplane for the 4-core or 8-core Processor board. So the Processor boards are interchangeable.
What I don't know yet is the difference between ver. 1 and ver. 2 Backplane boards:
According to some readings, the best way to find if a part is correct is to match the EEE code. My 8-core Processor board has the following Barcode:
J5906F1UH1LUB, which means according to xxxxxxxEEEx, the EEE code is 1LU. And the link below suggest that 1LT should be the corresponding Backplane board. I obviously have a ver. 1 Backplane board.
Does anyone know the difference between ver. 1 and 2 Backplane boards?
What 4-core Processor board would be a match for Backplane with EEE 1LT?

  • CPU help with KM3M-V board

I've just put some new pieces together for my daughter, KM3M-V board with a AMD (Sempure) 2500+, elxair 512 DDR 2700 RAM no graphics card. Everthing switches on and works, I can even connect to our wireless network and to the internet. However with no programs running, except for some that run in the systray, the CPU is constantly at 100%. BIOS is up to date v3.2 and no matter how many processes i turn off it remains at 100%. Any ideas please.
Also I've the same problem as one of the other threads only that just got into a PSU gobbiddygook. Thats to say on shut down it doesn't switch off neither does the power button switch it off. I can only press restart then as it does so I press the power button.
    Cheers

I reckon my firewall is fine. I've turned off Win Xp SP2 firewall, using Norton internet security (NIS) only, on the recommendation from installing the network. Anyway I'm physically connected to the modem/router and I've no problems. The other two are setup the same with my daughters tied down that bit further via OS user accounts & NIS.
On another matter, since you run a wireless network I'm having trouble mapping to folders I've shared on my daughters PC it keeps coming back access denied, where I've done the same thing to my wife's laptop and there's no problem with access. Now the difference is laptop has Xp home ed OS (administrator account) and Daughters is Xp pro OS (Limited account). I've not tried but I think it because it's limited. If you can shed any light I'd be grateful.
    Cheers

  • Share your O/C settings on your MSI Z87-GD65 board with I7-4770K CPU.

I'd like to see what voltages people are using to O/C their 4770K CPU's on this board.
What BIOS options are you changing from stock?
I can use 4.5GHz at 1.185 volts with the MSI Intel Extreme Tuning utility for 1/2 hour sessions with no problems but it locks up BSOD on the Prime95 test with 8 threads in seconds.  I've jumped the voltages up to 1.25 for Prime95 testing, but it gives me the WHEA error in Windows and and gracefully reboots.   I can't go higher than 1.25 on voltage because even 1.25 hits 100C on my Corsair H70 watercooler in a few minutes and starts throttling the CPU.  I can use 1.2 volts without throttling, and it doesn't hit 100C, but 1.25 is too much.   The other thing I've tried is running the CPU at 1.1 volts and 4.2GHz.
I'm curious what the rest of your guys have experienced?

    This is the wrong forum section for asking OC'ing questions and inquiries. There are a number of threads already on Z87 OC'ing here to review;

  • Replace 1.6ghz logic board with dual 2.0?

Is it possible to swap out the logic board and cpu of a 1.6ghz G5 with a dual 2.0 logic board and cpu?

i mean staying G5 the entire time, just going from
single 1.6 to dual 2.0 (not dual core).
I think you could do what you're asking about. The CPUs and motherboard go as a pair, so you can't drop a 2.0 GHz CPU into a 1.6 GHz mobo or vice versa. But, replacing the mobo and CPUs as a pair should be OK.
You'll likely also need to replace the power supply. The 1.6 GHz machines had a 450W power supply, and the 2.0 GHz machines had a 600W power supply.
However, you might want to talk with an authorized Apple repair center to see if there are any other technical hurdles that I've not mentioned.

You can upgrade to an SSD.
The simplest method is to use an SSD like the Corsair Force 3 and be sure that you purchase the migration kit.
The migration kit comes with cloning software and a usb to SATA/power cable that connects to the new SSD.
It is recommended that you purchase and SSD that is about 256 GB in capacity if you can find one that is affordable.
SSD with migration kit options in a search that I did.

  • Can we replace an old serial board with a new one found available on your site?

So.. we are using Lookout 5.0 to operate a plant, and we have a PCI SERIAL RS 232/485 ISOLATED 2 PORTS board, with the code 185726C-02 printed on that board, which is used to comunicate with some solenoids modules. I search your site for a replacement for that board, and I found the PCI-8433/2 board which seems to be compatible. Question: is it ok to use this board instead the old one with Lookout 5 if we update the NI SERIAL drivers from your site?
    Thanks in advance ..

The port placement is completely different on a 2010 model and a 2011 model, so the user wouldn't be able to replace it at all.

  • Replace 1.2GHz iBook G4 14" Logic Board with 1.42GHz?

    Hi everybody!
I have an almost 2 years old iBook G4 14" 1.2GHz. Or better said - had. The logic board died some weeks ago.
My main point here is to find out if I can replace the faulty Logic Board with something faster, i.e. 1.33 or 1.42 GHz. I have heard some rummours that the cooling systems are a bit different and I am affraid that a faster Logic Board won't fit.
Any suggestions? I would appreciate all comments on the topic.
I also wonder if anybody else has seen the same Logic Board problem. Strangely enough, it shows the symptoms of a dead fan, even though the cooling system is passive, i.e. whe the computer is cool it may even boot the system and let me log in, while when it's already warm, it dies in the middle of the startup.
If I boot the machine in target disk mode, it may run for days. Sometimes though, it may show some video problems: after being operational for some time, the FireWire symbol may freeze. I've noticed, that if I bend the bottom of the iBook a bit the symbol may start going again. Sometimes the display may go completely black. If, in that case, I bend the bottom a bit, a strange video-check-like sequence starts, i.e. going through black, white, red, green, blue and some patterns. At the end of the sequence the FireWire image may be restored.
I have checked all detachable components, i.e. extra RAM and AirPort and I am sure that they work perfectly. It is also worth noting, that the laptop may work several days in single user mode.
Thanks in advance for all comments!
    Ventzi

Well, that's exactly what I thought first, but we are talking about an iBook here. That meens, that the 'video card' is actually only a chip soldered on the logic board and the fan turns on only when the computer has reached around 65-70°C.
And I cannot say that it boots OS X...
If the laptop is cold, i.e. has been off for a while, it may boot as far as the login screen. If I then log in, it will halt while still loading the menus.
If the laptop is already warm, e.g. booting it for a second time, it won't even get to the login screen. Usually it halts right after changing the grey screen to a blue one.
And this is NOT a software problem – I experience the same behaviour when booting from the installation DVD.
Interestingly engough, though, the laptop can run for days without any problems if started in single user mode (the text interface) or in target disk mode...
I've taken it all apart and I am certain, that the preriferal devices work.
About the AHT. If the computer is cold, the Extended AHT will pass without any problems. I the computer is warm, on the other hand, AHT will either not load at all, or will halt at some point without any error message...
    Thanks for the help!
I hope that we can resolve this issue.

  • FOR ALL CANTERWOOD, SPRINGDALE & GRANITE BAY BOARDS WITH RADEON CARDS

There is a known issue with radeon cards and these mobo.
    You have 2 choices:
    1. Disable Fast write and 8x.
    2. You can uninstall SMARTGART, Click HERE for uninstall software.
This solves the Radeon 9500 9700 & 9800 series probs with these board.
    Good Luck to all

    JeffPH!
I already asked on couple threads, that how the FSB/DDR speeds are related together?
As you can check at my signature I've a P4 2.4B cpu and 2x512Mb PC3000 (DDR370) Kingston HyperX ram. I'm thinking on replacement of the ram to 2x512Mb of PC3500 Kingston HyperX to have the speed-advantage of dual chanel DDR400 and
to have some extra speed in reserve for OC.
I don't know if this change is fine or not.
I heard that dual chanel 400 can be used only with P4 C cpu. Is that so?
At this moment my DDR rated to 370 so is tat mean the fsb can be 185Mhz maximum. Is it right? Or is the mem-speed and fsb speed asynchronous?
My other problem is that my windows crashing in 3D when my 9500pro has 8x agp and fast write enabled.
It's working fine with 4x and no fast write. I tried with Smartgart uninstalled, tried with catalyst 3.4.
How can I test what is wrong? or what can cause this crash?
Please take 3 minutes and reply to me! I would appreciate that!

  • Memory Speed loss with CPU upgrade 2.6 - 3.0

    I have a n 875P Neo board with 2 banks 512m DDR400
I have just upgraded my cpu from 2.6G (800 FSB)  to 3.0G (800FSB)
    My BIOS is ver 1.8 (8/9/ 2003)
I have found that my memory speed timings have dropped by 30% since the upgrade.   Will I get better results if I update my bios to ver 2.0  (the latest bios)??
Sysoft Sandra Memory Benchmark shows to memory timings to be about 25% lower than expected
    Can anyone help??
    Thanks
    M Miller

The 875P Neo and 865PE Neo2 boards are kissing cousins   They have a lot in common.
It would help if you create a signature and put all your hardware information in it. Things like what type of video card and what type of ram all have an impact on what performance modes you can operate under. See the Rules at the top for what to include and how to do it.

  • Problem with CPU?? need help badly

Hey guys, its been a sad two days for me.. I have the MSI k7T266 PRO, and yesterday while i was moving tires into my apartment, one of them fell hard on the floor and my computer shifted, i opened the pc to find out that the CPU fan has shifted from the cpu, and the cpu smelled kind of burnt..
Anyway i had an ATHLON XP 2200 i think...
Anyway i went to compusa today and got a new CPU, an AMD 2400+ SEMPRON PROCESSOR. i installed it, put my huge heatsink, fan, and powered up.... NO SHOW..
The Diagnostic LED's show 4 RED lights,(which according to the manual means a problem with the CPU), it was showing 4 red lights with my old blown cpu and its still showing 4 red lights with the new cpu.. im getting frustrated..
Anyway i tried resetting the bios using the JBAT jumper, it still doesnt work..
I know the new CPU is good because i can tell a blown CPU..
So can anyone help me out??

    Which one is yours?
The Sempron 2400+ CPU has a 166Mhz FSB.

  • MSI working on a fix for using SB chips on p67/z86 boards with new IB BIOS?

I've got an MSI Z68A-GD80 B3, I updated to the version 20.0 BIOS which supports IB chips, but I'm currently running an i7 2600K. My machine seems to be stable with the new BIOS (better than previous BIOS versions actually), but for whatever reason when I went to the v20.0 BIOS I lost all ability to overclock. The only option which shows up in any BIOS menus is AUTO. No multiplier adjustment for the CPU, no V adjustments for anything, no RAM adjustments, etc...in fact the closest I can come is by adjust whether the RAM is running XMP profile or not. Everything else appears normal, but for all intensive purposes I've given myself an H variant board with no OC options by updating the BIOS.
So, my question is, since every other MB manufacturer seems to have figured out how to support both IB and SB chips on z68 systems why hasn't MSI? Is this support forthcoming or do I need to invest in a new MB or a new CPU just to be able to OC again?

No bashing intended, just tellling it like it is. Almost everyday, if not everyday, there are threads of users bricking boards flashing Ivy UEFI/BIOS's when an Ivy is never to be installed. Most of these are user error not reading the SOP, or not having a bootable USB stick, or whatever. Most flashing isn't even necessary unless a specific function or feature requires it. Too many are 'flash' happy for no reason at all.  MSI's goal 'may' be to develop and release a 'universal' UEFI/BIOS that works decent for Sandy or an Ivy. These 'compromises' often are not ideal. Try the last official revision xmad mentioned, or try the Beta for the (G3) I linked.

This 'question' itself is somewhat bordering on 'bashing', so I think it has been satisfactorily answered. Further comments about it are just going to head towards an argument. You have the link to MSI Technical and the (G3) Beta thread.

  • Max cpu compatibility with k7t266 pro

    Hello,
I'm new at this forum and it looks like a great place to get assistance on MSI boards.  Just got an older board from a garage sale.  I believe it's a 6380-010 or k7t266 pro.  Would be a great help if someone can tell me the highest rated cpu that is compatible with this board and what type memory it uses.
    Highly appreciate any help.

  • DIFFICULTY PROGRAMMING CUSTOM BOARD WITH VIVADO

    Hey Xilinx gurus,
I’ve been having difficulty programming a custom board with Vivado. I am using the XC7A50T-FGG484 Artix device in my design. I am also using the S25FL128SAGMFI003 Spansion flash memory chip.
