Replacing a processor chip in a 27" Core i7 iMac
I have a late 2009, 27" core i7 iMac running at 2.7GHz. Can I buy a new core 3.4 GHz Sandybridge i7 chip and swap it out without any adverse effects to my machine?
No, the chips are not in interchangeable sockets on the logic board. If you want the new chip, you would need to buy a new iMac.

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup. -
Where can I find a replacement motherboard for MB 2.16 intel core 2 duo?

One of my bosses has a macbook 2.16 GHz that's been diagnosed with a fried motherboard. He'll have to get a new one. And he asked me to shop around for a replacement. I don't see anything out there other than one on ifixit.com site. How can this be since it's a relatively new computer. When I do a search on Google I am often directed to sites that sell all kinds of replacement CPUs/processors/motherboards, often saying nothing about being ok to use in macs. Can someone please point me in a direction or two, or give me some terminology so that I can see whether or not NewEgg etc, offers parts that I can use in a mac?

SheilaI've always bought used mother boards on ebay. Sometimes it means buying an entire laptop with perhaps a bad display or other bad parts.
If you take this route you pretty much need to be able to replace it yourself because I don't think you are likely to find a service shop that will take your used parts to fix your computer. They would ot be able to guarantee anything if they are installing unknown hardware. -
I am using Xcode 5 on Mac Book with configuration Memory 5 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It hangs every time whenever i work on Storyboard and even on clicking on any of the controller it takes time to open. As my storyboard consists of 25 scenes. I searched a lot but did not get any results . I have upgraded my xcode to xcode 5.0.2 which is bug free as compare to xcode 5. Please help I m struggling with this problem a lot.

I have an early 2008 macbook pro that is running slow after upgrading to lion. Is there anything I can do? this is what I have,Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. What approximate values are shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec?
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting. -

According to the Lion webpage, you would need to add more RAM to your computer and check to make sure you have about 7GB of free hard drive space.

Edit menu Copy function greyed out MSword 2011, v14.1.0 (after I updated to OS X 10.9.5; 4GB 1067 MHz, Processor 2.53 GHz, Intell Core i5)
The copy function under the edit menu is gone (greyed out) and the short-cut, "command + c" doesn't word. I can only copy by using the copy button on the formatting toolbar, which is slow & annoying. I use the imac mainly for editing Video which when doing so it has reached temperatures of near to 60° C which causes the program to become unstable and needs to be cooled down to operate correctly.
An Apple technician (by phone) advised me to download an smcfancontrol. This allows each individual fan to increase speed and also advises the current temperature at °C. The smcfancontrol has been downloaded but this has not resolved the problem. By increasing the speed of the fan more heat is generated and creates additional noise.
I have since taken the iMac to an Apple Store for examination as suggested by APPLECARE when the fans were found to be working correctly. An Apple Store technician carried out a test, but not whilst working under the pressure of FINAL CUT PRO when the iMac generates a high temperature.
The Temperature Specification for this model is
Operating Temperature 20 °c to 35°C
Storage Temp.47°c
Clearly the temperature my iMac is operating at is excessive and could cause the computer to break down prematurely. Has anyone experienced this problem.
Frank HowellWhen was the last time you cleaned/vacuumed out all of your iMac's vents, slots and ports.
You need to do this with the iMac powered down, disconnected from power and everything disconnected.
Lay your iMac, screen down, on a soft surface, like a heavy towel. Use a small electronics vac, or portable or full size vac with hose and a crevice tool attachment and carefully and slowly vacuum every vent, slot and port on your iMac.
Then reconnect everything up, power up and download and install iStat Pro. Start working, then report the temps of your iMac after this has been done.
When using SMCFan Control, it is important not to run the fans at too high an RPM. This doesn't generate heat on its own, but will suck in more dust, lint and dirt into your iMac, and that will be the cause of additonal increases in heat.
I run my fans in the range of 1400-1600 RPMs. You can go as high as 1800 RPMs but it is important to keep the RPM range below either 1800 or below 2000 RPMs.
I, also, run a very small desktop fan pointed toward the upper back of my iMac to keep temps down even further. -

If you don't see any messages, not have anti-malware running or the Firewall on, try installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8 (according to your profile).
Restart your Mac after the combo in installed, try the App Store.
Also... if you have an app called Little Snitch installed, that can prevent a connection to the App Store. -

To save space on the computer, Apple has decided to solder the memory onto the logic board on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, and that's why you can't add more memory after buying the Mac. This only applies to these computers, not for the other ones
