Replacing a Server OS with a regular OS Leopard 10.5.6

Hello All,
I've been buying and selling Powermacs. I just one that is a server, and I want to install a regular user version of Leopard OS 10.5.6.
Also, there is a software that came with it, that I would like to save.
So here's the question:
1. Please answer in simple terms so I can understand
2. Will I be able to erase/eliminate the server OS and all of the administrator and user ID's abnd passwords?
I know there are different ways of doing this. However, will simply erasing everything and then installing the new OS be the easiest and best way?
Thanks everyone,
Stacey Bindman
Montreal,Quebec

Yes, but doing so would necessitate erasing the drive first. To save the software you would need to back it up along with any documents, applications support files, and preference files. You can use a program such as Easy Find - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - to locate all relevant files and folders so you can identify what they are and where they need to be stored.

  • Best Practices when replacing 2003 server R2 with a new domainname and server 2012 r2 on same lan network

    I have a small office (10 computers with five users) that have a Windows 2003 server that has a corrupted AD. Their 2003 server R2 is essentially a file server and provides authentication.  They purchased a new Dell 2012 R2 server.
    It seems easier to me to just create a new domain (using their public domain name).
    But I need as little office downtime. as possible . Therefore I would like to promote this server to its new domain on the same lan as the current domain server.  I plan to manually replicate the users and folder permissions.  Once done, I plan to
    remove the old server from the network and join the office computers to the new domain.
    They also they are also running a legacy application that will require some tweaking by another tech. I have been hoping to prep the new domain prior to new legacy tech arriving.  That is why I would like both domain to co-exist temporarily. I have read
    that the major issues involved in this kind of temporary configuration will then be related to setting up dns.  They are using the firewall to provide dhcp.
    Are there any best practices documents for this situation?
    Or is there a better or simpler strategy?

    I followed below two links. I think it should be the same even though the links are 2008 R2 migration steps.

  • I just purchased the Mac Mini Server with the intention of replacing Lion Server with Lion for the first hard drive while installing Windows 7 thru Bootcamp on the second hard drive. Is it possible for me to do this? Thanks.

    I just purchased the Mac Mini Server with the intention of replacing Lion Server with Lion for the first hard drive while installing Windows 7 thru Bootcamp on the second hard drive. Is it possible for me to do this? Thanks.

    I would use Parallels or VMWare and use the second drive to hold the virtual machine. That way the VM only uses the space that it needs and you can still use the remainder of the drive for other things, not to mention that you would not need to reboot to run windows.
    Also Time Machine does not back up a boot camp partition.

  • How to migrate an existing Microsoft SSIS deployment if it is decided to replace SQL Server with an Oracle database?

    Hi Oracle Gurus!
    Currently, I am designing an ETL solution that transforms and loads a lot of data from flat files and sends it to an SQL Server 2008 R2 database for storage. However, at a future point of time, it may be decided to add or even replace SQL Server with an Oracle 11g database.
    Currently, I am writing script transforms in C# to dynamically generate SSIS packages to tansform and load the data into SQL Server. But considering that in future, an Oracle 11g or 12c database might be added to, or replace the SQL Server database, how do I make my script transforms (or whatever else I am developing currently for SQL Server) reusable to the extent possible?
    Or more precisely, what steps do I take, from an Oracle point of view, to ensure that any future migration of data to an Oracle database would be smooth to the extent possible?
    Looking up to my Oracle Gurus for enlightenment in this matter!
    Novice Kid

    When you're writing your on C# code to load data into the SQL Server you have to modify the routines so that they will work with Oracle.
    One approach is to use the extproc agent which would allow you to directly call external programs with all the logic in it to perform the load of your files and to put the data into the Oracle database. Another option would be to use utl_file package (or equivalents) which will allow you to open external files from your Oracle database and to directly read its content and then to pass it to the related tables.

  • Replace KMS server with same-named server

    I need to replace my KMS server (win2008r2) with a new server (win2012r2), but with the original server’s name.
     This is my plan:
          Shutdown the current KMS server and remove it from AD, WINS & DNS
          Rename the new server with the old server’s name
          I have already added the VAMT role to the win2k12 server, but not configured it
          Install our KMS VL & run the office 2013 volume license pack on the new server
      Does anyone see any problems with this plan?
    Do I need to uninstall the KMS key from the original server first?
     What kinds of issues will the users see before the 25 client activations happen?
     Thanks!

    This is fine.
    KMS is resolved via a DNS Service record: _vlmcs._tcp.<domainname>
    Whenever you are finished installing KMS on the new server, ensure the SRV record is correct.
    NOTE: Remember the new KMS server will not start to activate clients until the thresholds are met.  (5 servers or 25 clients)

    Hello b.krushel,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
    Any number of things could cause this issue, so I would recommend this article named iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3999.
    These sections in particular:
    General Troubleshooting
    Make sure there are no current issues listed on the System Status that affect iCloud Calendar. The System Status is located on the iCloud Support webpage.
    Make sure you have fully enabled iCloud Calendar for the client you are using (for more setup and troubleshooting information on iOS, OS X, Windows and iCloud.com, see the additional details below).
    Check to see if the issue you are seeing is covered in iCloud Help. To search iCloud Help, visit help.apple.com/icloud.
    Check your settings and preferences as something may not be set up correctly. For example, having incorrect date and time settings can cause issues which are easily resolved by entering the appropriate settings.
    Troubleshooting Calendar on OS X Mountain Lion (iCal on OS X Lion)Note: For instructions on setting up iCloud Calendar with Calendar or iCal on your Mac, see iCloud Setup.If you are having trouble with Calendar or iCal on a Mac and you are using iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
    Make sure you are using OS X Lion v10.7.2 or later. Click here for help verifying the version of OS X you are using.
    Make sure your computer is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com and iCloud.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud calendars and events will not update in iCal. Click here for more information about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
    Verify that your iCloud member name is entered into the iCloud Preference pane in System Preferences. See iCloud Setup for more information about setting up iCloud on a Mac.
    Make sure you enter and update calendar information in the iCloud section of Calendar or iCal. Only calendars and events in the iCloud section of the Calendar or iCal Calendar list will be pushed to iCloud. Both Calendar and iCal for the Mac support the display of and interaction with multiple accounts and datastores, for example, iCloud, On My Mac, Exchange, Google, and so on. This makes it easy to create or modify events or calendars in a section of  Calendar or iCal that may not be updating iCloud. Learn more about moving local calendars to iCloud.
    In some cases, you may find that you have data duplicated in both the local On My Mac and the iCloud sections of Calendar or iCal. Learn more about resolving this issue.
    You can make the iCloud calendar your default calendar for all new events. In Calendar on OS X Mountain Lion, choose Calendar > Preferences > General, or in OS X Lion, choose iCal > Preferences > Generaland under the Default Calendar heading, select one of the Calendars under the iCloud heading. Close the Preferences window to save this change.
    If recent changes simply don't appear, try forcing Calendar or iCal to refresh by selecting Refresh All from theCalendar menu.
    Make sure your account was successfully created in Calendar on your Mac (or iCal). After upgrading to iCloud Calendar, you may need to quit and reopen Calendar (or iCal). To confirm your account is configured correctly in iCal:
    Open Calendar (or iCal).
    Open Calendar (or iCal) Preferences.
    Click Accounts. You should see an account with your iCloud member name entered.
    Turn iCloud Calendars off and back on
    Quit Calendar (or iCal).
    Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
    Remove the checkmark in the checkbox next to Calendars.
    Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
    Open System Preferences and choose iCloud.
    Replace the checkmark next to Calendars.
    Close System Preferences.
    Open Calendar (or iCal) and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
    Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Error creating a new BPEL domain in a 2 server environment with common DS

    I want to create two new BPEL domains, one for production and one for test env
    instead of using the default domain.
    There are two application servers with BPEL PM (10.1.2.0.2) using the same
    Dehydration Store. Active-Active mode, no cluster.
    A new BPEL domain is created successfully with BPEL Admin Console in server A.
    The problem is the server B knows nothing about the new domain. I cannot select
    the new domain on BPEL Console login page on server B.
    When I tried to create the same domain in server B the following error
    occured:
    Exception
    Operation failed because:
    Error updating domain index.
    An exception occurred while writing the domain index (id"szolinfo", ref "1") to
    the datastore; the exception reported is: ORA-00001: unique constraint
    (ORABPEL.DOM_PK) violated
    Please check that:
    + the machine hosting the datasource is physically connected to the
    network.
    + the connection pool properties as defined in the application server
    startup properties are valid.
    + the database schema for the OraBPEL server has been installed in the
    datasource.
    This is because the two servers are using the same database.
    The new domain require a new folder and a lot of files also inside the domains
    folder on server A and B. On server A this is created by BPEL Admin Console.
    How to create the same domain in server B?
    Are there any scripts/tools to use for this reason?

    These steps on Server B resolved the problem:
    1: cp -r domains/default domains/<new-domain-name>
    2. cd domain/<new-domain-name>/config
    3. Edit the following files by replacing the string 'default' with the name of your
    new created domain in the following
    elements/attributes:
    archive-config.xml: <value>/home/mla/app/bpel101202/integration/orabpel/domains/de
    fault/archive</value>
    domain.xml: <bpel-domain-descriptor version="2.0.6" id="default">
    4: In the case that the password for the domain is different compared to the default domain, the file 'auth.properties' has
    to be copied over from the server where the domain was created.

  • What's wrong with the regular expression?

    Hi all,
    For the life of me I can not figure out what is wrong with this regular expression
    .*\bA specific phrase\.\b.*
    This is just an example the actual phrase can be an specific phrase. My problem comes when the specific phrase ends in a period. I've escaped the period but it still gives me an error. The only time I don't get an error is when I take off the end boundry character which will not suffice as a solution. I need to be able to capture all the text before and after said phrase. If the phrase doesn't have a period it would look like this...
    .*\bA specific phrase\b.*
    which works fine. So what is it about the \.\b combination that is not matching?
    I've been banging my head on this for a while and I'm getting nowhere.
    The application highlights text that comes from a server. The user builds custom highlights that have some options. Highlight entire line, match partial word, and ignore case. The code that builds my pattern is here
    String strHighlight = _strHighlight;
            strHighlight = strHighlight.replaceAll("\\*", "\\\\*");
            strHighlight = strHighlight.replaceAll("\\.", "\\\\.");
            String strPattern = strHighlight;
            if(_bEntireParagraph)
                if(_bPartialWord)
                    strPattern = ".*" + strHighlight + ".*";
                else
                    strPattern = ".*\\b" + strHighlight + "\\b.*";
            else
                if(_bPartialWord)
                    strPattern = strHighlight;
                else
                    strPattern = "\\b" + strHighlight + "\\b";
            if(_bIgnoreCase)
                _patHighlight = Pattern.compile(strPattern, Pattern.CASE_INSENSITIVE);
            else
                _patHighlight = Pattern.compile(strPattern);So for example I matching the phrase: The dog ate the cat. And that phrase came over in the following text: Look there's a dog. The dog ate the cat. "Oh my!"
    And my user has the entire line and ignore case options selected then my regex woud look like this: .*\bThe dog ate the cat\b.*
    That should get highlighted, but for some reason it doesn't. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the regex read as follows:
    any characters
    word boundry
    The dog ate the cat[period]
    word boundry
    any characters until newline.
    Any help will be much appreciated

    A word boundary (in the context of regexes) is a position that is either followed by a word character and not preceded by one (start of word) or preceded by a word character and not followed by one (end of word). A word character is defined as a letter, a digit, or an underscore. Since a period is not a word character, the only way the position following it could be a word boundary is if the next character is a letter, digit or underscore. But a sentence-ending period is always followed by whitespace, if anything, so it makes no sense to look for a word boundary there. I think, instead of \b, you should use negative lookarounds, like so:   strPattern = ".*(?<!\\w)" + strHighlight + "(?!\\w).*";

  • Replacing an Airport Express with a Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet.

    Hello, I hope somebody can help.
    I am trying to replace an Airport Express with a 2TB Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet, via an ADSL modem.
    I have tried everything I can think of, powering down all devices, re-setting all devices, but nothing seems to solve the problem.
    When I first tried to set up the Time Capsule, there was an option to replace the Airport Express using the same settings.
    But there were repeated error messages of 'No DNS Servers' and 'PPPoE server couldn't be found'.
    I also had messages that the password for PPPoE wasn't correct, but when I plug the Airport Express back in again, everything works fine.
    What could the problem be?

    99% of issues with authentication are wrong password or wrong username.. eg it can be strange like the user name is missing the domain.. whereas the Airport Express works fine without it.
    Ring your ISP and make doubly sure you have exactly the correct username and password.
    If it still doesn't work, put the adsl modem back into router mode and try it again directly on the modem.. if it works ok on the modem but fails on the TC that is possible and can be caused by pppoe client using incorrect authentication type, CHAP or PAP which the TC does not allow you to select AFAIK.. some ISP do not give enough time to get the router to switch on auto to the correct authentication method.
    In the end run the modem as router and bridge the TC. It will work just as well for most installations in bridge as the modem in bridge.

  • (2011 13" Macbook Pro Model 8,1) I want to replace my 320GB HDD and replace it with a 6gb/s 120GB SSD. I also want to replace the optical drive with a 7200RPM HDD 750GB.

    I want to use:
    The SSD and enclosure to replace the optical drive with the new HDD
    So basically, I want to use the SSD in the link above. I want to set this up as either preferrably a fusion drive. If not the smoothest most stable configuration. I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 13" with 8 GB of ram, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 320GB HDD.
    I want to install the SSD directly to the SATA port where the 320 GB HDD is currently. I then want to install the new HDD, preferrably a name brand 750 GB 7200RPM hard drive where the optical drive is now. I want the storage to work in a way in which the OS, and my most used programs and files get stored on the SSD, and everything else gets stored on the larger hard drive. My most preferred method would be Fusion drive, or a SPAN drive.
    I would like to use a Seagate Momentus XT, but I learned that there might be issues with compatability with this. I dont mind using the 3 gb/s 500GB option, but would like to know if it would even be smart to do it. I also have no problem settling for a regular 7200 RPM hard drive.
    I have read a bunch of stuff online but I still am not sure if this is even possible. I want my machine to run as fluid as possible so any info would be appreciated.

  • Replace Non-Numeric Characters with a Numeric Character in a String

    Hi Guys,
    I need to replace all the non-numeric characters (including embedded blanks & hyphen) in a string to a numeric character '1'.
    The trailing blanks should not be replaced.
    e.g. "P22233344455566" should be changed to "122233344455566"
    &    "49-1234567           " should be changed to "4911234567          "
    Please help.

    Use [replace|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABAPREPLACE_IN_PATTERN.htm] with a regular expression to translate any non-numeric character (i.e. any character not between 0 and 9) to 1:
      REPLACE ALL OCCURENCES OF REGEX '[^0-9]' IN value WITH '1'.
    Cheers, harald
    p.s.: In older releases [translate|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABAPTRANSLATE.htm] would also do the trick, but is more lengthy, because one would need to specify each individual character that should be replaced, e.g.:
      TRANSLATE value TO UPPER CASE.
      TRANSLATE value USING
          ' 1_1-1a1b1c1d1e1f1g1h1i1j1k1l1m1n1o1p1q1r1s1t1u1v1w1x1y1z1'.

  • Replace bzip2 and gzip with pbzip2 and pigz system wide?

    I just now got word of these multithreaded ports and would like to know if theres anyway to replace their single threaded brethren? pigz is already in AUR and it wouldn't take much to put pbzip2 into it either.
    Maybe some global variable should be set?
    Edit: Strike the part about pbzip2. It's already in community

    I just did some testing by downloading the Linux kernel source, and then using bzip2 and pbzip2 to decompress and recompress it several times.  In another terminal window I monitored the speed of each CPU core by running:
    watch 'cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep MHz'
    What I found out was that yes, the files created by either tool will be able to be decompressed with the other.  However, if you use pbzip2 to decompress a file compressed with the regular bzip2, it will only use one core.  Only when decompressing a file that was compressed with pbzip2 did pbzip2 use both CPU cores.

  • Upgrading Unity 4.0.5 to version 8 and replacing the server. Need advice for most efficient upgrade path.

    Hello,
    I need to upgrade Unity 4.0.5 without failover to Unity 8, and we are replacing the server as well.
    What would be the most efficient upgrade path for this?
    Thanks!!

    Brian,
    The most efficient path is to use COBRAS.  I have a number of posts explaining the overall process.  At the highest-level, this allows you to build out the new Unity 8x environment, get it integrated with AD/Exchange, and then build out configurations that don't migrate over (there are a few which are highlighted in the COBRAS help).  From there, you migrate data over from the 4x system.  There may or may not be a few steps along the way but they are outlined in numerous posts I've contributed to regarding COBRAS and also in the COBRAS Help which is located at www.ciscounitytools.com.

    This is happening because JAXP is not thread safe. need to synchronize bracket or use thread safe parser.

  • Can I replace my optical drive with internal blu-Ray player?

    Basically what the question says. I have a MacBook Pro mid-2009, and I'm wondering if I can replace the optical drive with an internal blu-ray drive.  I would want to be able to read and write to regular CD and DVD still though, that's a must. Also, if there is an internal drive I can put in, will OSX Mavericks support playing a blu-ray movie just because my computer can read it?
    Thanks for any knowledge or advice you guys can offer!
