Replacing a Zen Vision M Face pla

hi guys, i was wondering if maybe a creative rep could answer this for me, i have a Zen Vision M which is like month old. Id like to replace the black face plate with a white one. Is there a way i could pay for this at a creative center or something?
the black face plate is being scratched wayyy to much and the funny thing is its in Silicon case..

I am not sure if they can replace the face plate with a white one but you can contact Customer Support in your respecti've region either by telephone or e-mail to see if they can help you with this.

  • Zen vision:m face plat

Hi, I own a green Creative Zen Vision:m and I love it quite alot. I've noticed that it tends to scratch alot, so I bought a silcone case for it, I liked it at first but after awhile I noticed how thick it made the player get, so i decided to get a invisible shield for the mp3 player, it was fine, but I started to see bubbles and junk from applying the screen protecter. I removed the shield and it left this bumpy grainy residue on the screen and buttons. I am unable to get rid of the residue and was wondering if I can purchase a face plate and replace my old one. I really hope someone could tell me some info on this because I love my vision:m very much and don't think I would want to get a different one just for a simple problem of having gunk on the screen and buttons. thanks in advance

  • Can not turn on my Zen Vision M 30gb pla

Hi, Sorry to bother you guys, but my Zen Vision M 30gb player can not be turned on. When I was listening to the music, it suddenly freezing. I can not turn it off or reset it. After a while it is off automatically and can not be turned on anymore and reset also doesn't work. When I connect it to the pc. nothing really happen except the swith keeps flashing, and the pc also doesn't recognize it. Did anybody have the same experience or same problem I really appreciate it if you can help me with it. Thanks! Ning

Sounds like you need to replace the battery here's the info to open the player for that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akJDRpx6rA8? Here's a link to get a battery for the player? http://www.infinitybatteries.com/p-4...n-polymer.aspx

  • What's next for Creative? IE, what's replacing the Zen Vision

Subject says it all. Do we know what/when is coming out next?

*bump*?I am wondering too. *** PURE SPECULATION AHEAD!? Read at own risk?***?I would imagine they will try their hand at wireless (like the Zune and others have)?I also assume they are working on players with the newer capacities of flash (there is a 32 Gig Flash dri've out now)?Lastly, I think plaid is the new color for all Creative players. ?Eric

  • Replaced Zen Vision:M 30gb with same ~ Is it necessary to uninstall/remove original progra

So my Zen Vision:M 30 GB crashed and died a horrible death recently. I made the HUGE mistake of not holding onto my original receipt (duh) so even though it falls under warranty, I can't prove it. OK, that's my bad. I loved my Zen while it was working well so I decided to get another one. I really wanted the 60 GB but Creative Customer Support told me in no uncertain terms that the slimmer version would not be released in the US soon or, possibly, ever. (What's up with that ) So I just want to go back to my happy place with my music. I'm ready to get all set up with my new player. BUT ~ do I need to remove all programs related to Creative and reinstall with the new CD provided with my new Zen It would make sense to do so, I suppose. Start from scratch. But I see four programs listed as Creative in my computer. They are:Creative MediaSourceCreative Removable Disk ManagerCreative System InformationCreative Zen Vision M Will I create a problem by removing all four Is there another program I'm not thinking of that should be removed I rolled back to WMP 0 because I read of so many problems with updating firmware and WMP . Now I read there's a fix in WMP and it's OK to reinstall. Anybody want to speak to that Should I dowload firmware right away So many questions... I just really want to get it right this time and enjoy my Zen life once again. Thanks!AFH

If I would have to venture a guess I would assume that there is an IRQ/Interrupt problem going on with your USB controller on your system.
This can can happen due to the system sharing the IRQ that the USB ports are on with other devices, or sometimes be the result of having an older USB driver or an older driver on a device that shares the IRQ with the USB ports.
Going to a slower hub is most likely slowing down the IRQ request rate (due to slower data rate) which keeps the system from becomming unstable. You might want to check out this thread here for some hints on things to try.
The gentleman in that thread was getting "blue screens" and reboots but its most likely the same basic type of problem.http://forums.creative.com/creativel...uery.id=490850

  • NOT so happy CONCLUSION after all -- Installation of my ZEN Vision M (30 G

    Sunday 2/3/06
Let's see, I had a problem with losing my AUDIO. Finally, I had to do a full re-install on my S.B. Audigy 2zs. I even moved it to a different PCI connector on the MB. After a full re-installation... sweet sound again.
As to the Zen itself, I keep having problems.... I am trying to update all the applications (C MediaSourde and C Media explorer) and even there I am finding problems.
When I download the upgrade file to my PC ([color="#ff3300">CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_0_38.exe), and?try opening it, it HANGS... that's it... so I have not been able to upgrade it. And if I don't upgrade it, then I will have the same erratic behavior will all these applications. They work sometimes and sometimes they don't.
If I really force the issue, opent the explorer and the MediaSource, where I have my "library" of songs... and WHEN the ZEN is recognized by everyone (This is ramdon condition, sometimes yes, many times no), I am able to drag and drop some songs from my "library"?to the ZEN.... but I?still don't have a clear path to do this consistently... ?
    Tuesday report 2/26/06:?
[color="#ff0000"](I?don't want anybody to get the ideal all is well now... I thought it was... Yesterday, but not today)
Today I?was able to?to Rip a couple of CDs and "transfer" them to the ZEN. Some of the songs?have noises?though... I don't know what causes that. But the applications are still buggy, they don't work consistently all the time. I just "sense" something is not right with my PC.
[color="#ff0000"]No only that... This installation knocked off my Audio!... even though I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs platinum! (Audio Card)... So I have NO SOUND right now?and therefore I can not use WMP-0 to rip cd's because it tells me I have not audio and I am not in the mood to deal the WMP now. So I had to use the Creative MediaSource 5, to do the ripping and the synchronizing. It did the job ok, except for the noise...
I tried everything to re-install my Audio. Tried the latest dri've...Nothing. Went back to my old one (before this installation) and it DID NOT work either!? Amazing how complicated this has become....
Monday report 2/25/06: I did not do much on the Zen today. But I did notice the WPM 0, still goes crazy (crashed) when trying to find the Zen. The WMP0 crashed today once. Also, there seem to be some conflict among certain programs... It almost seems as if more than one applications is biding for the Zen when they see it. (i.e. if the WMP is open and try opening the Creative Explorer app... it will not open... but only until I close the WMP...then the apps springs up just like that. That's it. - Good night.
I SO, IT seems like I am not out of the woods yet... I wonder if I ever will.

Connect your ZEN to a "USB-PORT" (not to a "hub")?A USB-PORT is located on your computer (the box). Devices that required a continuous or heavy amounts of information (i.e. External Hard Dri'ves, Camcorders, Webcams sometimes, required an individual USB-PORT)<?Two things here:?- This link is for the original messagehttp://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=7293?[size="+2"][color="#ff0000"]2- Happy Conclusion installing the ZEN Vision M (30 Gig)<i>(I am writing this for several reasons. Mainly, because it was a difficult installation and I wanted to summarize the 200 or 300 steps/actions I did that led me to solve the problem successfully. I always do this when I have a difficult installation and then I save it for the next time I need it (i.e. changing computers). I certainly don?t want to waste all that effort. One thing I learned about ?technology? is hard to learn it but it can be forgotten so easily, if you don?t take notes.)</i>
    <p align="center">---------------------------------------
    [size="+2"][color="#ff3300">What was causing the problem?
    Two things:
First, problems with Windows and the computer itself.
Second, the Creative applications were horrible at first, they would not open right away and when they did? sometimes 5 or 0 seconds later? they would crash just by clicking on something? and so Windows kept giving me those Error boxes and I kept sending them to Microsoft?(I must have sent at least 00 if not more!) I was also having problems with my graphics, every time an application would crash, then all kind of weird graphics would take place when dragging things around. I also had problems at one time with my Anti-virus/fire-wall Icon going dark after several re-boots, so I had to kick it to get it working?. Oh well, I just want you to get a flavor for how bad things were yesterday.
When I first installed the software, nothing worked!... My computer was noticeably SLOWER and SLUGHISH? Actually I was worry about my computer itself because I have never seen it this bad!... I thought a virus the size of an elephant had gotten into the pc somehow, no kidding so I ran the anti-virus, anti-spy, just to make sure. Sometimes if you firewall is down, you can get viruses in an instant!... I hope you people know this by now. And if the firewall fails and viruses get in, is just at moments like these? when you are trying to get things to work and downloading stuff from the Internet and so on.
The computer was just sloooowww? sluggish?.. and crashy (new word?)?.
I must have rebooted my system from 40 to 50 times, and I am not exaggerating. At some point I even had trouble turning off the PC. There were like three time where it would just sit there in ?limbo? (hung/crashed), so I had to actually switch the?PC OFF on the back of the box, the only way to turn it off? And of course, when you do that, you can be sure you will have all kinds of interesting things when you try to boot up again! (like all kinds of funny displays on my screen, or Windows giving me the ?black screen and white text? asking me to choose a way to boot up, like ?boot up normally? or ?boot up using the last configuration that worked,? (I did this like?7 times all together).
    [size="+2"][color="#ff3300">So how did?everything go?from ?so bad? to ?so wonderful?? <i>I don?t really know exactly!</i>
But I suspect three things happened:
    - Windows sent me a couple of upgrades (I get them automatically)? I have NO IDEA what they were, but whatever they were, helped!
?2 - As I read and read, things began to come back to my brain. Especially a post reply that gave me the hint (Reformatting the dri've in the Zen) would finally let me ?transfer? my stuff to the Zen
?3 - An lastly, after I have ?cleaned, reformatted the dri've, got rid off the ?firmware? (not a good thing to do), Then I could not make Windows see the ZEN no matter what I did!? I did what worked before (connecting and disconnecting the USB cable from the white adapter (dungle?) connected to the ZEN). Usually when you do this, Windows being a ?plug and play? OS, it usually ?sees? when a new ?device? is plugged in one of the USB ports, or disconnected from a port, as well. In other words it ?recognizes? the device (connectivity) and if the software and driver are already install, the device should come ali've and work! That is the reason you always install the software and drivers first, and usually re-boot the system once, so that when you connect the ?device? (ZEN), it should work!
[size="+2"][color="#ff3300">Let me recap I what happened:
?- I installed the s/w and as I already said, it was horrible.
?2- The Windows updates, somehow were helping a little bit.
?3- I also downloaded the latest updates from Creative.com (downloads/upgrades). I downloaded the ?firmware? (the ?upgrade,? <i>which is the OS=Operating System for the ZEN. Just like ?Windows? is to the PC)</i> and other ?patches? for?the ?creative media source 5? and ?Zencast organizer? (3 updates). I am sure this upgrades helped some, as well.
?4- After trying so many times, I was finally able to open the ?Zen Media Explorer? (Icon looks like a picture of the Zen). When this opens, it shows you everything inside the Zen just like in the ?explorer? (nice). That meant I had connectivity! (good).
?5- Since I had ?connectivity? (access) to the ZEN, My next attempt was to ?transfer? some files down to the ZEN? but this proved impossible!... Somehow, at some?point, by accident (I?did not even notice it)? I was able to transfer ONE song to the ZEN, which gave me hope. After all, if you can do it once, you should be able to do it again. BUT, I couldn?t
?6- Then a nice lady?who responded to my first post, told me she had basically the same problems and the solution was to ?Clean and re-format? the ?Disk dri've?in the ZEN. She said that once she?did that, everything would sort of fall into place? and she was right!
?7- I unplugged the ZEN from the PC and read somewhere how ?to clean, reformat, upgrade or replace the ?firmware,? Not sure still, but it'ss something like ?resetting (with a clip) the Zen and holding the ?power? slide in the ON position? something like that, and that brings a special screen with 4 choices:
    Clean<
    Reformat dri've (erases everything!), <
    Replace firmware (careful here!), <
    Reboot. <
Then it'ss pretty easy?to do a lot of ?damage? in a few seconds!... ([color="#ff3300">careful here if you are not used to the sensitivity of the "touch-pad")In my case I did not care since I had not put anything there yet. I erased EVERYTHING!... (not a good thing). I should have been more careful and simply use option 2 (reformat the dri've). Chances are this would have been enough to transfer songs to the ZEN. But since I get crazy when doing stuff like this, I went ahead a cleaned everything.
?8- Then I realized I had erased the ?firmware. As you already know this is the ?heart? of the Zen. (like Windows to the PC). Finally I went to Creative.com/downloads and downloaded it (the full version). But if you remember in #3, I had also downloaded the ?firmware? upgrade as well. The reason this is significant, is, that when I finally recovered ?connectivity? to the ZEN, I? tried both files, but the one that ZEN accepted was the upgrade! (I found this interesting? since I would have thought the full version would have been the correct choice? see?... little things you learn.
?9- As I already gave you a hint in #8, once I had the ?firmware? ready to install, the system kept telling me it could NOT see the ZEN. I connected and disconnected the USB cable several times? rebooted the pc? this helps sometimes, but nothing!... FINALLY, I read somewhere, I should go to the ?device manager? and check what was going on.. ? EUREKA ? indeed I found the ZEN with a ?Yellow mark? on the side, which always means trouble. Basically, I used the ?uninstall? option (based of the principle that simply ?un-installing and installing back something? sometimes this works. In other words, the ZEN was ?stucked. So when I ?removed? It from the ?Device Manager? list (I don?t recall if I rebooted here? but it never hurts!), then all of the sudden? a little icon in Windows (on the small tray=bottom right corner (with the clock and Date),? acknowledged?a new deviced had been connected to Windows. (connectivity back again! Yeahhh).
?0- Now that had ?connectivity? (Big step), I could try installing the ?firmware. And as I already explained, the ?upgrade? was the one that ZEN took. As soon as you clicked on the file, a box opened and asked if you wanted to install the ?firmware. I said yes and voila!... The Zen started accepting it's and when it ended, just like a PC, the ZEN rebooted itself and I was able to see the familiar interface (the same folders as before) but not contents at all? empty!
?- At this?point?I opened the ?Creative Media Source organizer,? went to my ?playlist? and from there, just click and drag some songs and dropped them on top of the Zen Icon (just like dropping files in a folder). And yes, the files were finally ?transferred? to the ZEN. Unplugged the USB cable from the Zen (or the Zen does not play anything). The songs were there and I was FINALLY able to listen to them from the ZEN!... Wonderful. Oh yes, using the same technique (drag and drop), I put a wmv video and was able to watch it as well... Now I know why people rave about the little screen... nice!
?2- In the mean time, without noticing? Just like the nice lady?from the post said, everything seemed to have fallen into place!
?In Summary: The applications ( the creative programs=icons)?were opening normally and quickly now, and many of the errors I got before when clicking on certain things, disappeared. I am sure I will still find some problems here and there, but basically the thing works now the way it is supposed to.
?Just a matter of clicking, dragging and dropping items?into the Zen?.yes, that simple!
    ?Good luck!

  • MediaSource Recognition Problem? (Zen Vision:

OK, I had a Zen 20GB for the last year and I loved it to bits. Worked great, but just before Christmas it fell in some water and died . I replaced it with a 60GB Zen Vision:M and didn't mind too much because I had less than GB of space left and would have had to replace it soon anyway.
Now onto my question. With my Zen 20GB when I used Media Source (I think v.3 came with it but I can't remember) it would let me search my Zen and edit tracks in it. The search function was IMO fantastic, especially with a music collection as large as mine. Now when I connect my ZV:M it connects fine. I've transferred plenty of music without bother using Windows Media Player.
However, when I open Media Source (both v.3 and v.5) it doesn't give me any option to explore my Zen like it did when I had my 20GB. I can still explore it using the Zen Explorer, but since this doesn't let you edit the properties for several tracks at a time I find it very frustrating.
Also, if I chose to "Transfer Music", "Transfer Playlist" or "Sync Music" in Media Source I get the message "No Creative mp3 player is detected. Please connect your mp3 player and try again."
Now, I know it's connected since I can explore the contents fine in Zen Explorer and I can transfer to it using WMP. Is there something I haven't installed correctly that is stopping Media Source from recognising my player? It just seems strange since it seems to be the only application not working for it.
Thanks for the help (and sorry if this has been covered else where. I searched but couldn't find anything).

You must also download and install the corresponding MediaSource plugin for your MP3 player in order for MediaSource 5 to detect your MP3 player.

  • Zen Vision:M

Hi, I dropped my Zen Vision:M in to the toilet yesterday when I walked in watching a movie (so no, it wasn't in use, thankfully) and it hit the seat then was fully submerged for about second. When I grabbed it out, it wasn't off, but the screen kept flashing and it was making some extremely strange noises like whining, clicking etc. A lot of water came out of it and the noises were quite loud. I tried to turn it off using the power button but it wouldn't, so I put it in a cupboard for the night to try and let it dry out. This morning I looked at it and there was condensation behind the screen, so I left it for another 7-8 hours while I was away at school. I came back and it looked dry, so I plugged it in and turned it on but it still makes the same clicky noises. The LED comes on and it sounds like the hard dri've is trying to work, resulting in the noises. The screen doesn't come on at all.
So what should I do? Should I leave it to dry out more or try charging it up fully, because I thought this might explain why the screen didn't come on.
Also, I know this isn't covered by the warranty so if it does need repairing, and it can be repaired, can someone give me an estimate of how much that would be? I can't really afford another one because I'm a student, and I really liked my Zen while I had it, so if it could be repaired for not too much that would be great.
Thanks for your help in advance.Message Edited by alexgalgut on 09-9-200706:7 PM

When you've left it the two weeks,?when you attach it to your computer, if it is recognised then I suggest you access the recovery utility and re-format your hard-dri've - if any sectors have been damaged by water then the formatting process will mark those sectors as bad and therefore un-usable. I'd then transfer your music across and fully charge the player. If the screen or hard-dri've are damaged and you feel brave then you could buy a replacement lcd screen/hard-dri've from somewhere like eBay and try replacing them yourself (there's instructions online and video tutorials on YouTube showing you how to take your player apart). Creative are very unlikly to repair your player and if they are interested (which I doubt)?then it will?probably be just as cheap to replace the unit. Water has a habit of getting everywhere and damaging components to the point where nothing can be done except buy a new player. Sorry I can't be more positi've, hopefully it'll dry out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  • Zen Vision:M Problem (Firmware + Recovery Mode) (please un-sti

(apologies on the sticky, i misclicked!)
I've had my Zen Vision:M 30GB for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, while on my New Years vacation this past week I accidentally dropped it after it tangled in my headphones. Immediately afterwards, I started getting the "recovery mode" problem that seems to crop up. Unable to get past this(it booted only once every million-or-so tries), I decided to use the "MP3 recovery tool" from Creative's site
Unfortunately, it froze up halfway through, and now is giving me a "Hard Disk error". I tried to reformat, and it seemed to wipe it clean...but now it wont even recognize it when I plug it into my USB port to put in new firmware! (The PC recognizes it, but not the Firmware installation)
    I don't know what else I can do....any ideas/help, please?
(I looked at Creative's support pages, but they only deal with Warranty repairs, which I don't have as it was a gift.) Can they repair/replace a broken non-warranty player, and if so, for how much?
Or is there another solution I haven't tried yet?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • How to delete Zen Vision:M empty playlis

I've run into this problem twice now in the less than one week I've owned my Zen Vision:M. I create a playlist either through Winamp 5.2's Portable Media Player plugin (which is simple, but is OK for managing music) or through the Creative MediaSource software. In the second case, I imported an existing playlist, then created a new playist on my ZVM, then copied the songs from the old playlist to the new playlist. That is the process that I read about someone else using in these forums.
    Problems:
() Songs appear to be duplicated in the process and it takes forever for the playlist to be finalized. That's been mentioned enough in these forums and isn't the issue at hand.
    (2) Multiple playlists with the same name appear on the ZVM with all (or nearly all) of them empty. To be honest, I don't know if they are all empty because it appears to have made one playlist per song in copied over and I don't have the patience to look through all 40 of them. Only one playlist with this name appears when viewing via Creative MediaSource or any other software I've tried.
    (3) I deleted the playlist via Creative MediaSource, hoping to clean up the problem. The result was that the single valid playlist disappeared, but the empty ones remained and are only visible on the ZVM itself. I've tried deleting them one by one on the ZVM, but when I leave the playlists, then re-enter the menu they are all magically there again.
The first time I solved this by returning my player to the store and getting a replacement, but this appears to be an "undocumented feature". Anyone familiar with this or know how I can clean out the invalid playlists? Thanks!

Well, I contacted Creative's support staff today. Summary: there is nothing to do except reformat my ZVM and start over from scratch. Not exactly a solution, but that's the state of things as of today. If anyone else runs into this problem, please contact Creative so as to give them incenti've to fix this bug as soon as possible. Of course, I could also state the obvious that the best solution is to support standard playlist functions or importing of standard playlists. THAT would make LOTS of people happy!
    That's all folks.
[EDIT] I found a fix that didn't involve formatting the dri've. Support sent me a link (http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4794) to walk me through the formatting process and I decided to try "Clean up" first. It messed with a couple of my settings, but cleaned off the nasty empty playlists and meant I didn't have to transfer all my music again. Whew!Message Edited by digiman on 07-06-2006 09:27 AM

  • Zen Vision M 30GB & Playdock Z

After my IRIVER 6GB H0 died during a firmware upgrade I decided to look to the market for its replacement. I wanted more memory & to buy from a company that (in my view) put effort & resourses into after sales as well as new sales. Didn't fancy IPOD - due to (what I consider to be) restricti've practices. So after a bit of research creative seemed a natural contender - in fact the only one that seemed to offer IPOD-like-specificaction for the price. I've had the Zen Vision M for about a month - all I have to say is that it is brilliant:
    Reliable<
Fantastic sound - for a condensed music format<
I prefer the chunky case - makes it more durable & harder to loose<
Works brilliantly in the car stereos - thanks to the much higher output volume than the IRIVER<
Mine is black. I've had no trouble with scratching - although i did buy the Creative leather case on the day I got the player & I never leave it 'naked' in my pocket<
I've so far put about 00 albums, 500 photos & 50 videos (from my digital camera) on it & am only scratching the surface of the memory capacity<
I find the?controls much better than the IPOD wheel (one of my kids has got a Nano - which is very good also)<
The menu is completely intuiti've. I quite like picking a single artist or gendre that I might have several albums from, pressing play & letting play for a few hours!<
Dead easy to upgrade the (brilliant) software & firmware?- & I'm no techy. <
I thought that was as good as it was going to get. I was wrong. I managed to track down the Playdock Z500. This was a bit of a challenge - as they seemed to sold out everywhere on the internet (in the UK) & no shops seemed to have them. Near to London's Oxford Street is Tottenham Court Road, this seems to?be countries best place for electonic gizmos. There are about 30+ shops in a short stretch of road. Having been in and out of?about 0 of these, I struck?Lucky. After a quick 'barter' to agree the price?- as is the practice in the road, I left the shop a proud owner of the play dock.
What first struck me was the weight. This is not?a flimsy peice of kit. When I got it home & put it all together the results were fantastic. A few key points:
The speakers have a built in subwoofer round the back & a base knob that you can adjust. At a deafening full volume, apart from potentially upsetting the neighbours, the house was filled with sound there was no distortion. For a small system this certainly?'punches well above its weight'.<
The Z500 has a video out, so I can see the pictures, videos & even the menu?from the Vision M on the television when the supplied cable is used. Picture quality much?better than I expected & very satisfactory.<
The remote control that comes with?the speaker is just excellent. Funily enough it is exactly the same moulding as the one used on my?fathers Bose system - & that cost ?900 ($500+?). Not only do you get on/off & volume - but enough buttons to navigate the whole Vison M menu - on your TV if the AV lead is plugged in!<
The?Playdock has a volume knob on the top - plus a 'wide sound' button, which really transforms the sound.<
The speakers on my PC are not vey good - so guess what? That's right, they ended up in the bin & the Playdoc doubles up for this as well!<
Not to mention, this is a very attracti've piece of 'furniture' too! It was on this basis that my wife forgave me buying both items without consultation!<
I've never written a 'review' about anything before. But I was so impressed that I felt I wanted to (I would have been just as quick to complain if I was unhappy).
I hope that someone else finds this posting helpful & find the devices as good as I have.

I own the Zen Vision M 60gb & have just bought the Playdock Z500 which I agree sounds amazing .My question is regarding the remote control . I've managed to do most things on it but I was wondering if you knew how to jump to the A - Z listing down the right side of the screen in artist & track search menus ?On the player you normally would press the edge of the touchpad but on the remote I cant find a way of using the A - Z shortcuts & have to scroll down for what seems like ages!Hope somebody can offer some help? Thanks,?John?

  • Zen Vision M Recognized by XP Pro, but not by Creative Media Organizer or other transfer softw

I have a Zen Vision M. It worked perfectly for months. Suddenly, it wouldn't turn on. I started it in Rescue Mode, did a clean up and several reboots. It started doing a rebuild on every start. Now when I plug it into the USB port, my computer recognizes it. It gives me the portable device icon in the task bar. But, if I try to use it with Windows Media Player 0, Creative Mediasource, Organizer or anything else, it says the device is not connected. I have checked Device Manager, and it shows up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Zen software. I have no issues with device drivers in the Device Manager. It just simply will not show up as connected on any software to transfer music.
If I connect it to the USB, it goes into dock mode. When I boot up any of the software, it shows the docking arrows moving. It's like everything is ok except the one important piece - not being recognized by the various software needed to transfer music.
Please help!? I have a Dell Dimension 8400. I run Windows XP Pro with ALL updates, and SP2. It is completely up to date with all critical updates for XP Pro. This came out of the blue and I have no explanation for it. I hadn't used it for about 3 days, but it worked perfectly up until I turned it on that last time when I got nothing and had to go through all the clean up, reboots, etc. I have done 2 clean ups so far.
Please advise what to do next.
    Thanks.

Ok. I checked my version of XP. It is XP Pro, Version 2002, SP2. I checked and already had the 2 hotfixes that were listed as being needed before proceeding. I followed all the steps and changed the registry key on "everyone" as the instructions stated to do. My ZVM is still not recognized by any of the software for transferring or organizing MP3's. My computer still recognizes that it is attached. It still gives me the device icon in the task bar. It still says it's A-ok in the Device Manager. It does everything, except it is not detected by ANY of my music software. <sigh>? Frustration is at its peak for me right now. I really appreciate all of the efforts. I'm at my wits end now. I have done everything you have indicated I should, but am getting the same results. I did purchase an extended warranty from Circuit City where I purchased this last summer. Is that the next step? Do I need to get this replaced?I love this player and really don't want to go through this again. We had to exchange it twice in the first month because it froze up and wouldn't do a thing. This last one has been perfect. I keep it in a leather padded case at all times. It never has the battery drained. It never gets jostled or bumped or dropped or anything that might damage it. When not being played, it stays on my desk in the case.
Thanks so much for any and all help.

  • Zen Vision M 30gb, used to be able to download music from I tunes, can't now, need he

I had another computer with I tunes loaded, also used Zen vision M on it along with I Pod, new computer has both products downloaded on it, but for some reason it wont recognize the Zen or let me download music from the i tunes library like i used to. also this computer uses windows vista. Can anyone help

So, you need an older version of the iOS app, because the current version no longer works on your iPod touch.
If you do regular backups of your hard drive (as you should), such as by using Apple's built-in Time Machine (if you use a Mac), you may find the older version of the app in the backup archive, and restore it (replacing the newer version).  They are stored in the iTunes Media folder, in the Mobile Applications sub-folder.  You should then be able to sync the older version to your iPod touch.
I can't think of any other way to get it back...
NOTE:  An 2nd gen iPod touch can run up to iOS 4.2.1.  If your iPod touch is running something earlier, and that is why the app no longer works, you can also consider updating the iPod's iOS.
I use an even older iPhone (original).  I avoid this potential problem by aways updating its apps on the iPhone, not in iTunes on the computer.  When I do it on the iPhone, it will not download a newer version of an app that won't run on my old iPhone.

  • Zen vision M 30GB blank white screen

I have scanned the forum for a smiliar problem but I need more help.
My Zen vision M, 30GB player is a 2004 model, my Operating system is Windows Vista, 32-bit. I'm not sure what firmware I have on my player. As of last week, I have only a blank white screen; I have backed up all my contents and dowloaded the recovery tool with no result.
After contacting Customer service, they sent me to the forum to look for help or buy a new unit...just want to make sure there is no other recourse I can pursue.

A white screen can not be repaired it must be replaced. It is a hardware issue not software. You can do it yourself. Purchase another screen & replace it. I have done this many times. • Zen Vision or new ip

I'm thinking about getting a new mp3 player and I'm trying to choose between a Zen player or a new ipod classic 80GB. It looks like the closest comparable Zen is the Zen Vision:M 30 GB (there's also a 60GB, but I can't find any new ones in stock). The vision:M retails for about $250 and so does the new ipod classic. The vision:M looks like it's almost 2 years old, it has less than half the memory of the new ipod, and its the same price. There's also the Vision:W 60GB which retails for about $366. It looks like it has a nice big screen, but it has 20GB less memory than the ipod and sells for more than $00 more than the ipod. Plus it looks like its about a year old. Does anyone think Creative is about to come out with a new, more competiti've, full size media/mp3 player? Creative's biggest advantage in the past was that the Zen players cost significantly less than the ipods, but it doesn't look that way right now. Should I hold out for something new from Creative?

I suppose it depends on how much you are going to store on your player. The reason you won't find the ZVM 60gb is that it's been discontinued (as has the 30gb version) so when stocks run out, you won't be able to buy one. The W is about a year old and both the ZVM and the ZVW will be replaced with the new Zen. While the new Zen looks fantastic, it uses flash-based memory, which limits it's memory to 6gb. I feel that Creative will have to release a new player with a larger capacity, unless the general media rumours are true and Creative really have conceeded the larger capacity player market to Apple and the iPod classic. Another purchase consideration is using the iPod - do you really want to use the processer power-eating iTunes and be limited to buying music from iTunes
