Replacing ACS with ISE
What is required to replace ACS with ISE in simple terms?
I am looking to basically authenticate wired and wireless access against the local/AD) user database via Cisco kit
I am thinking all I need is the BASE (perpetual) license rather than the advanced/wireless licenses
Is there a limit to how many devices or users the base can deal with in its simplest form.
I would also like to be able to push out a splash screen for wireless users during authentication. Can this be done just with the ISE Base License alone for a wireless solution (via WLC with LWAPS or Autonomous APs)

yes you can authenticate the user using the ISE and but you need a advance license if you want to use both wire and wireless here is small table to help you understand the license requirements also the max. devices support depends on the type of deployment and with advance feature you have the abilitity of profiling and posturing which provide very good control for admins in the network

ThanksISE does not interoperate with Cisco Secure ACS deployments. The Cisco Identity Services Engine can work in tandem with Cisco NAC Manager to provide the same profiling service as the NAC Profiler, which has reached end-of-sale status.
Existing Cisco Secure ACS customers using network access can easily migrate to the Cisco Identity Services Engine platform using migration part numbers and tools. However, existing Cisco Secure ACS customers using TACACS functions will not be able to migrate to the current version of ISE for network device identity management which is often acceptable for customers who prefer to keep user and network identity on separate systems. -

Can Anybody can update whether ISE-3315-K9 with ise version: Service Engine: 1.0.4.573 , supports the command level accounting
Bascially , we have integrated Cisco Switches with Cisco ISE for Device Authentication using Radius , we are able get the authentication logs on to the devices , but for any command changes or update done on Cisco devices we are not able to get the command accounting ..

Cisco ISE doesn't have TACACS feature ...Command Accounting is a TACACS+ feature so not for ISE....yet.
However, you can do the following to send commands to syslog and not including passwords (hidekeys). I just picked 200 commands/lines to store in the local command buffer/log. increase or decrease as you have memory. The notify syslog is what sends it via syslog.

Remember, syslog is clear text :-) log away from user traffic when possible. Or use TLS based syslog when possible.

Dear All,
I have one question and i was struck in that. We have SSO with AD and Other Guest Wireless SSID. Guest SSID will be authenticate with ACS local user account.
My problem is that when i was create one user in ACS that user can login more than 1 system at same time. Can i restrict this user to access wireless for one system only not more than one.
Anybody try before this or not. Please if anybody done can you share with me.
Note:- I create local user in ACS and that user will be able to login Guest wireless SSID, this user should login only system only not more than one system.
Thanks.ISE is much more expensive and if your just wanting to do radius, even using a Microsoft radius can be used. ISE does have more features if you need more than just radius features too. ISE hopefully will replace ACS, but when. It will first need to really and truly support tacacs first. That is one big reasons people still need ACS is for tacacs.

Difference between ACS and ISE
What is the big difference between the ACS and the ISE? We just purchased an ACS server to start locking down ports on our switches and use the Radius functions to better secure our wireless environment. It has been ordered but not yet arrived. I had a discussion with management today about preventing the IPads / IPhones / Smartphones / etc. of the world from accessing the network. If the user knows the credentials for getting their laptop onto the network then they can use these same credentials to get their IPad on the network. How do we detect and prevent is the current question.
In discussing with others the ISE comes up. The questions now become what is the big difference between this and the ACS. Do they work together or independently since they both seem to have "radius on steroids". Can I configure the ACS to do the same functions? I figure this will have to be something on a MAC address level anyway. Oh and one other thing. My wireless infrastructure is not Cisco.

BrentTo put it simply I usually say ACS = RADIUS, ISE = NAC.
ISE will do RADIUS functions as well as NAC functions. Eventually you'll probably see ACS go away and be simply replaced by ISE.
ISE will do posturizing and profiling of a device to see if it truly meets requirements to be on a certain VLAN. For your example if you were to my credentials on my own smart device I would have access. ISE could profile this device to see if it truly is a corporate owned device or not. If it wasn't ISE can switch the network that the device connects to, say a guest network.
ISE can also do captive web portals for wired/wireless guest access.
I wouldn't rely on any type of MAC address authentication as I can easily spoof that. -

I'm looking into a network access control solution, and I have the following questions:
1- My understanding is that ACS assigns unauthorized assets to a guest vlan/zone, but what happens next if access to resources (such as internet) requires authentication? In other words, does an ACS-only solution imply manual guest access provisioning, as opposed to automatic provisioning with an overlay NAC Guest server?
2- Captive portal vs. Webauth: My understanding is that ACS alone does not provide a captive portal for guests. It only provides a webauth feature that is mainly a fallback authentication mechanism for employees/managed assets, not guests/unmanaged assets. Is this correct?
3- Finally, the Trustsec v2.00 document (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Security/TrustSec_2.0/trustsec_2.0_dig.pdf) mentions “Cisco TrustSec 2.0 adds support for Wireless user access. With Cisco TrustSec 2.0, Cisco ISE provides the same authentication methods regardless of user access methods, which could be from wired line or Wi-Fi connection”. Does this mean that ACS has limitations to support wireless connections?

-Mohamad.1. Wrong understanding. ACS does what you tell it to do. It can assign a guest vlan to unknown assets or assign whatever else you like.
What do you mean with an internet access requiring authentication ? If you think about a guest portal, i.e. a web page asking to enter credentials, then ACS doesn't do that, so you have to couple ACS with a Guest Server. That's a bit of a pity because the Guest Server is not a product that will evolve. ISE just do everything in 1.
2. ACS is not a captive portal correct. When you say "it provides a webauth feature that is fallback", it's wrong. ACS doesn't provide anything like that. The switches implement web authentication (or the wireless controllers) and ACS can authenticate the people using that, but ACS is just a radius server saying "yes/no" and giving privileges.
3.ACS has no limitations to support wireless in particular. What the paper says is that ISE provides a captive portal that will be the same for wired or wireless users.
Remember that with ACS, you need to use the captive portal of the switch and WLC or a nac guest server. So not unified. -
Apple macosx machine authentication with ISE using EAP-TLS
Hello,
On a ongoing setup we are using eap-tls authentication with account validation against AD. We have our own CA (microsoft based). ISE version 1.2.1 patch 1.
With windows machines all is working well. We are using computer authentication only.
Now the problem is that we wish to do the same with MAC OSX machines.
We are using casper software suite and are able to push certificates into macosx, and are doing machine authentication.
in ISE the certificate authentication profile is being set to look at the subject alternative name - DNS name of the machines. Whenever we set it to the UPN (hostname$) windows accounts are not found in ad.
When MAC OSX authenticate as machines (they have a computer account in AD) they present themselves with RADIUS-Username = hostname$ instead of host/hostname.
The consequence is that by lacking the host/, ISE considers that this is a user authentication, instead of a computer one, and when it sets off to find the account, it searches in User class instead of Computer - which obviously returns no results.
Is anybody aware of any way to force MAC OSX to present a host/hostname RADIUS-Username when authenticating?
Any similar experiences of authenticating MAC OSX with ISE and machine/computer authentication are welcome.

ACS 3.2(3) built 11 appliance
-Cisco AP1200 wireless access point
-Novell NDS to be used as an external database
-Windows 2003 enterprise with standalone Certificate Authorithy Services Installed
-Windows XP SP2 Client
My Goal is to use Windows XP Native Wlan Utility to connect to AP using EAP-TLS authentication against Novell NDS.
Tried to connect using Cisco compatible wlaN utility and authenticate using EAP-GTC against Novell NDS for for users, it works fine and perfectly.
When connecting using EAP-TLS, I am getting an error from ACS failed attempt "Auth type Not supported by External DB". But in the ACS documentation says that it supports EAP-TLS. How true is this? Is there anybody have the same problem? Do I need to upgrade my ACS? What should I do? What other authentication type could be used to utilize native WinXP Wlan Utility?

Hi all
We are currently using ACS for wireless authentication. Guests register over an external Sharepoint webpage. The REST API is used to create and later delete these temporary users in ACS.
Now we want to migrate to ISE. In contrast to ACS, the ISE REST API seems to have no CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) capabilities for Users. The ISE internal guest portal at the other hand we don't want to use.
Is there any other possibility to create Users in ISE from an external Application ?

Cisco ISE allows you to view, create, modify, duplicate, delete, change the status, import, export, or search for attributes of Cisco ISE users.
ISE also allows you to import user data in the form of a csv file into its internal database. Instead of entering user accounts manually into Cisco ISE, you can import them.
Following are the steps,
Step 1 Choose Administration > Identity Management > Identities > Users.
Step 2 Click Import to import users from a comma-delimited text file.
Tip (Optional) If you do not have a comma-delimited text file, click Generate a Template to create this type of file.
Step 3 In the File text box, enter the filename containing the users to import, or click Browse and navigate to the location where the file resides.
Step 4 Check the Create new user(s) and update existing user(s) with new data check boxes if you want to both create new users and update existing users.
Step 5 Click Save to save your changes to the Cisco ISE internal database.

Has anyone successfully migrated from ACS to ISE especially with WLAN or WiFi users?
If you have, please share any information.I have done a few of those. I have never tried using the migration tool but instead have always created configurations from scratch. Basically, anything Radius related will migrate just fine. The one major thing that ISE won't support is TACACS+ but that is also coming in a future release. For more info check this doc:

I not so recently changed my email adress I associated with my Apple ID and my iCloud ID. My old email still shows up for iCloud, and won't let me change it to my new email. After soak test update, I get error messages repeatedly. The majority are "unfortunately, messaging has stopped", but you can replace messaging with "android os", or any other process, as it happens with more than just messaging. I have had numerous people call and ask why I didn't reply to their texts...and I look, but have not received any new texts. YES, I have restarted phone. I have cleared data as well as cache on all apps. I have downloaded the vzw messaging app, which seems silly, since it happens with several different processes and apps, but all to no avail. I am missing texts from my employer, from my family. This did happen, but rarely, before this "soak test". It is now Kitkat version 19.6.3.obake_verizon.en.US. THIS is when I started having problems...like 50 times a day kind of problems! I have seen hundreds of posts all over the internet over the past 3 days. Does no one know how to fix this??? Shouldn't there be a way to revert phone to a pre-update state? and no, hard reset did NOT work!!!! I have been with verizon for well over 15 years, but I have not upgraded my lines and will not in July either. This is ridiculous. It's not like my games aren't working, it is my messaging and "android os"...my lifeline at work!

I have a MacBook Pro 15.4" 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo (A1286) - Mid 2009 MC118LL/A and I think the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868 is going out. Should I replace it with the exact same drive or is there a better one that is compatible?
I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives. -
I have a new computer and have installed iTunes on it.
Now I want to sync my iphone but the new itunes on the new computer wants to remove everything on my niphone and replace it with what's on the newly installed itunes data but it does not have my data.
How can I sync the new itunes with my iphone and not have my phone data wiped out?

There is no way to stop iTunes from doing exactly what it is designed to do.
The iPhone is designed to sync with one and only one computer.
If you have moved/copied your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, then iTunes wiping your device is no problem. You would simply sync and iTunes will put all the content back. -

I think you are using the redundant selects to fetch the data from BSEG.
First select all the data into an internal table based on bkpf.
Now you can distribute the data into whatever tables you want using the loop,read-binary search and append statements..
Loop at it_bseg.
read it_bseg where

xxxxx
binary search.
append wa to it2_bseg.
endloop
This avoid several database fetches..
