Replacing all macbook casing from chipping/scratche (all the plastic parts)

Hi,
I've had my macbook for about a year and it's had the usual level of surface scratching on the white plastic. I'm still under warrenty, and recently my laptop has been chipping due to the fairly well known design fault at the palm area (above the status light and remote sensor).
However, can someone tell me if it will be fixed for free, and which parts will they replace? I was thinking of getting all the plastic parts replaced, if not, then the broken part (for free) and the front of the laptop (where the apple logo is). I'd be willing to pay the surplus. Will they accept this?
Anyone got similar experiences dealing with macbook chipping/etc repairs? thanks.

I can not believe Apple hasn't addressed this... first off the palm rest area where it chips is razor sharp - then it chips..
I have had 4 prior mac laptops and WTH? Let's change something that has worked fine for 5 years and still charge 1,400 bucks. IMHO it is unacceptable and I would never recommend a macbook to anyone. And to upsell to a pro is BS. Wait till the nest design. Maybe Apple employees don't use macbooks?
And to have to BUY a hard case for a design flaw??????????????

  • Possibility of fixing scratches on the plastic part of Magic Mouse

I have a magic mouse I bought used and the top plastic was severly scratched by the previous owner's girlfriend's ring. Is there a possibility of removing the scratches? I know for a fact that the plastic is identical to that the first intel iMac was made of, and I have seen someone removing scratch from one of those, but with the touch surface in this mouse will it harm to do so? You can see the scratches and fell it while using the mouse, it isn't like those scratches you see on the apple display mouse it's even worse.
I think i could replace the mouse but is it cover under the 3 year warranty the computer it came with (iMac mid 2011, purchased in Feb. 2012 and expiring at Feb. 2015)?

As far as I know, the Apple care warranty is transferable within the limitations of the country where the original machine was purchased.   I believe it can be done on line and does not need the original receipt.
But this repair will not qualify because the fault is due to usage (or mis-usage) and not due to manufacturing failure.

  • I duplicated a picture and now iPhoto (11) is cloning that picture replacing all the other photos and only when I click directly on them I can see the real picture! How can I solve the problem without losing any saved picture? Shall I re-install? Thanx

I duplicated a picture selecting CMD and D but, suddenly, iPhoto (latest version '11) started cloning that picture and replacing all the other photos with it.
Only when I click directly on one photo I can open it and see the real picture it is.
But the preview is always the duplicated one...
I tryed to duplicate another picture just to see if it turned out ok but the only changement was the duplicated picture!
I started repeating the second duplicated one instead of the previous one but my issue remained the same.
So, how can you help me to solve this problem without losing any saved picture?
    Shall I re-install iPhoto completely?
Thank you very very much in advance!!

As Larry says, restoring the back up is the fastest and best solution. Otherwise:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How to Replace All the Bridge CS6 Stock Keywords With Bridge CS5 Keywords

I have CS6 working in a different computer than the one that houses CS5. Bridge CS6 can read CS5 keywords when it opens an "old" photo but it has none of its own (besides the stock ones that came with the program). How can I replace all the stock CS6 keywords with the keywords from CS5?

Have you tried the Import/Export options from the tiny menu at the top-right of the Keywords panel?

Do a media manage of the sequence converting the files to the appropriate HD format making the clips offline.  Then simply reconnect the offline clips to the HD clips.  There may be issues in the file names, but they can usually be worked out either with the naming options in media manager or renaming your hd files.  There are many utilities that allow you to batch rename files.

  • 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011.takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get

    Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!

I have a 1st Gen, MacBook Pro from 2006. For the last few years I've had to us my power adaptor as my battery no longer works, and shuts down after 30 seconds it. Now my power adaptor looks like it's coming to an end. Even though it's securely fitted, it often switches off.
I am planning on buying a new MacBook Pro later this year, but for the meantime I'm not sure if I should buy a new power adaptor, or if this is a problem with my MacBook Pro. Also does anyone know where I can buy a battery in the UK for 1st Gen MacBook Pro.

OWC has batteries for 1,1 generation MacBook Pros and they ship internationally - http://eshop.macsales.com/.
Your best bet for a power adapter is to get one from Apple. Third-party adapters just don't seem to be reliable (or safe). You can also buy a replacement battery directly from Apple, of course, but they're a bit more expensive.
    Good luck,

Hello, i am curious about recovery manager and what it does.
recently i had my old hdd removed because of increase of bad sectors. i tried to use system recovery dvd i orderd from hp web site but it did not work on my new hdd so i had to clone my old hdd to use it. while i was using old hdd i had to run chkdsk alot and i saw few of window/systm/... listed as problem and it was removed(?).
I want to make sure my new hdd has no problem after recovering to factory setting. (I raned chkdsk before i clone my old hdd)

    @Forblindmice ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  The recovery will not recover lost sectors.  Any data that has been lost is lost unless you run with some type of special recovery software and this is not always a win.
Once you have  a bad sectors unless you can use some type of hardware low level format software to remap the sectors they will still be there.
What I would do is pull the drive and put it in another computer and get all your data off it.
Once you get what you can off the drive then you can see if there is a software out there to low level format and then try getting recovery media from HP phone support to reload your OS.
I would consider replacing the drive though.  If you are starting to get bad sectors this is usually mechanical and will mean a total crash some time soon.
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

  • CS6 Find Font Replace All replaces all the text in that font with a space.

Anybody else have this happen? It's happened to me more than once, so I don't think it's a fluke. The first time around I never noticed it until it was way too late to use UNDO. Disconcerting to say the least. It takes out all the words in that font and inserts a space.

  • I was buying parts of a macbook pro 13" what are all the essential parts, wires perhaps for it to be fully functional (without the fan/ keyboard/ mouse and speakers. Thank you

I was making an investigation into what I needed to make a bit of a bit of a hybrid between my musical inteface and the mac book pro 13...I looking for the macbook to just hold and processes the application i require to perform live music, in this case the software max msp. I was looking for peoples opinions on what risks im taking just powering the motherboard of the model and have people had experience of reconstructing the mashine, what sort of things did they discover.
Thank you very much for reading, I will very very much  appreciate any reponce from people

You've got it right. The SSD can be upgraded, though it's expensive and potentially voids the warranty. The RAM can't be upgraded at all.
Can you return it? If not, your only option may be to sell it.

  • Slight scratches in the black part of the back

    Hi,
being said in the subject I've got some slight scratches or rather abrasions in the black part of the back of the iPhone. Probably caused due to the cradle because they are all in the same line. Anyone expierenced the same? And is there a way to get them off?

I'm continually amazed at how much people are concerned about slight scratches to the iPhone. I know it's a great looking piece of kit, but it's bound to suffer some wear and tear given it's usage pattern. I'm reminded of the time I bought a new car and had sleepless nights when i found a small scratch on it. After a few months, it didn't really bother me that much.
The part you need to protect is the screen, which you look at all the time. It's pretty scratch resistant, but it makes sense to buy some sort of case to protect it when it's in your pocket with keys and/or pens. There are plenty of threads on the "best" case around.
If the scratches are a real bother, you can easily buy a replacement back cover from ebay for $15 at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230212988581.
But note that doing this yourself will void the warranty.
