Replacing an Airport Extreme power cord

I recently lost the power cord to my Airport Extreme Base Station in a move and wondered if anyone knew how to order a new one? I can't find them listed anywhere on the Apple Store.

I just did a quick Internet search. One option that came up is from We Love Macs.

I just replaced my airport extreme and now the amber light on my airport express is blinking.  When I go to utilities and try to find the airport express it does not show up.
    What should I do?

Anytime you change networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of that hardware. Check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Please post back your results.

  • I BEG of you:  How do I replace an Airport Extreme base station with a 4th-generation Time Capsule as the base station?

I'll be damned if I can figure this out.  I have a new late-2012 iMac (OS 10.8.3) connecting to my LAN via Airport wi-fi.  (It will be Ethernet-connected, as soon as a hole is drilled into my new work table, but right now the Ethernet cable doesn't reach.)  My wife uses a 2011 MacBook Air.
The LAN consists of a flying-saucer-looking Airport Extreme connected by Ethernet to the modem, plus 2 old Airport Expresses.  I have an Ethernet switch too, through which I've got a TV connected and a printer connected.
I bought a 4th-generation Time Capsule about a year ago, but couldn't figure out for the life of me how to replace the Airport Extreme with it.  I became so incredibly frustrated that I hid it away in a closet until now.  I  just tried again, with the same results.  I've got both Airport Utility 5.6 (to use with the old Extreme and Expresses) and Airport Utility 6.2.  I was using version 6.2 to set up the Time Capsule... or to try to.  Once again, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it!  I tried so many different Ethernet wiring connections that I now cannot remember them well enough to describe them here.
I distinctly remember that, when I tried this a year ago with my wife's MacBook Air and Airport Utility 6.2, I was presented at one point with the question whether I wanted to replace an existing base station with the Time Capsule I was trying to set up, but this time I never was presented with that option.
Is there anyone who can, in essence, hold my hand and walk me through this process step-by-step?  At this point I even need to be instructed what to wire to what.  I feel like a total incompetent.
My MOST sincere thanks in advance for help!
(I hope Time Capsule is the correct forum for this question.  I considered the Airport forum as well, but I don't want to cross-post.)
(And, just to complicate matters, after I get this done-- assuming I ever do-- I want to use the old Airport Extreme on the outside of the house to extend the range of my LAN to the back yard... but that's for another day entirely.)

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.

Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • I recently installed an Airport Extreme 802.11N that I bought in May 2013. It replaced an Airport Extreme 802.11N that I bought in July 2007. My USB printer (Lexmark E350d) worked fine with the old Airport, but the printer won't work with the new one.

I recently installed an Airport Extreme 802.11N that I bought in May 2013. It replaced an Airport Extreme 802.11N that I bought in July 2007. My USB printer (Lexmark E350d) worked fine with the old Airport, but I'm having trouble with the new one. When I try to print, I get a USB Waiting message on the printer, and when I force a page to print by pressing Go on the printer, I get a page that says ERROR: syntaxerror OFFENDING COMMAND: true.  . . .cvt . . . fpgm . . . x . . .lglyf . . . <..J head . . .     STACK: / [    -mark-   /sfnts I’ve tried shutting down the printer and disconnecting it and the Airport, but that doesn’t help. I reset the settings on the printer. I upgraded the Airport firmware and removed, reinstalled, and upgraded the Lexmark printer driver. After I upgraded the firmware and printer driver, a few pages printed correctly, but then I got the same syntax error page as before. Any suggestions for getting the printer to work correctly?

Use a powered USB hub between the AE and the printer.. the usb port does sometimes have issues.
Try deleting the printer in the Mac and reinstall it.. the change in AE can represent effectively a change of printer.. it is important to make sure that is all up to date.
Beyond that.. USB printers.. ughhh! Consider for two toners you can go and buy a proper network printer.

  • TS1589 Had to replace our Airport Extreme when it stopped working (still under warranty).  Now I can't get anything but flashing amber light. Airport utility says "error occurred" when I try to get it set up.

Had to replace our Airport Extreme (802.11n) and now can't get anything but flashing amber light.  Have gone the route of turning off modem (overnight), restarting everything this morning and at least when I turned on the laptop (no desktop) the Airport Utility opened automatically.  I put in the info for the Airport Extreme that we had previously (password, etc) but it couldn't connect (said error occurred).  I would assume this is because of the flashing amber light?

I am having a similar issue.  However I've had my airport express for over 3 years.  Yesterday we had to reset the router as it wasn't broadcasting.
Today having same issue so we reset the router again.  And now still blinking amber.  When I go to the Airport Utility I can't even go to the Manual Setup as I'm getting the Error 4.  Internet works fine as the router and modem are hooked up to my computer via Ethernet cable.
I did a factory reset and the AE is broadcasting again.  but I can't get in to protect the network.  And it's still blinking amber.
    Any thoughts would be great.

  • Replacing an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule

I have had my wireless network setup and working for a few years.
I've decided to replace my Airport Extreme with a Time Capsule.
Can I simply disconnect the Airport Extreme, connect the Time Capsule and configure it with the same SSID & Password? or is there a procedure for accomplishing this that I'm not aware of?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
What you describe should work, but first you might want to try this approach: Use AirPort Utility to put the Extreme into "manual setup" mode. Use the menu option File -> Export Configuration File to write the configuration to a file. Replace the Extreme with the Time Capsule, put it into "manual setup" mode, and use the menu option File -> Import Configuration File to read the Extreme configuration into the Time Capsule.
Full disclosure: I haven't tried this. If it works, you'll have saved yourself several minutes of configuring. If it doesn't work, then proceed as you originally planned. And let the rest of us know how things went.

  • Airport Extreme Power Supply Voltage?

We just moved and apparently packed our AEBS separately from the power supply. Does anyone know the voltage and output current (or power) from the power supply so that I might use an alternative until we find the original?
I hate to spend the $20 (and shipping) for a unit I'll find some days from now...
    Thanks,

The Airport Extreme power supply brick output is rated at 5.1V DC, 2.4 A. The polarity of the plug's sleave is negative, the center terminal is positive.

  • I have replaced my airport extreme with a new airport time capsule and want to know how I can set up my extreme to extend/strengthen my Wi-Fi?

I have replaced my airport extreme with a new airport time capsule and want to know how I can set up my extreme to extend/strengthen my Wi-Fi?

Start with a "hard reset" (see below) then use AirPort Utility to configure it.
When asked what you want to do with it, indicate that you want it to add to an existing network, similar to the following screenshot.
Follow the prompts that will eventually lead you to the words "wirelessly extend..." as shown.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • Replacing older airport extreme with time capsule

I am thinking of replacing my airport extreme with time capsule. I had a lot of problems setting up airport extreme a few years ago - now it is very reliable. I don't want to have the same issues with time capsule. Can I simply physically replace the airport extreme with time capsule using the same settings as previously
    Advice gratefully anticipated

Welcome to the discussion area, pancuronium!
You will use AirPort Utility on your Mac for this operation:
(Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility)
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the File menu at the upper left corner of the screen near the Apple icon
    Click Export Configuration File
Assign a name to the file and save it to a convenient location like the desktop
When you are ready to install the Time Capsule....
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
    Click the File Menu
    Select Import Configuration File
Navigate to locate the file that you exported to import all the settings into a new configuration for the Time Capsule

  • Airport extreme power supply buzzing sound

My airport extreme model A1301 power brick is making a buzzing sound and I think is dropping my internet. has anyone encounter this problem?  can i just get a new power supply cord or replace the whole thing?

A "buzzing" sound typically indicates a failed or faulty electrical component. Unfortunately, there is no user serviceable items on the AirPort's power brick. However, there are a number of vendors that offer replacements. If you bought your AirPort along with a Mac laptop or desktop, and have AppleCare, it may be possible to request a replacement from Apple.

  • Airport Extreme Power supply

I have a dome type Airport, which my daughter was using. Until she said it had stopped working. Got her to bring it over and found no power from the jack plug. So took the case apart. Power was reaching the circuit board, but no 5 volt out, so it was not the lead. I have made a start on looking for a replacement Transformer and noted that I have a Nokia phone one that has the same power out. Would it be worth fitting a jack to this, to use on the Airport. Or has someone an idea of a way of getting a replacement. Nothing like the Foxlink Tech. comes up on a search.
    Regards
    Dave

Perhaps you will have better luck posting or starting a new thread in the Airport / Time Capsule category.
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140
As far as your problem, I don't know the power requirements of the older Airport Extreme Base stations, but if the power requirements are listed on the device and you can find a transformer that can supply that (your nokia PS), then cut and splice the old end of the broken power supply and solder (do not twist) the old end onto the new PS.
I don't know your electrical background but you want to make sure that you don't get the wires backwards on the plug. Make sure that you don't cut the wire to short on the plug end encase you need to repair again.
Another solution is a universal power supply. Radio Shack and maybe Walmart sell these. They come with different voltage settings and different plugs that you can switch out. Keep in mind that they may not have the plug end that will match your AP.

  • Time Capsule as a File Server - to replace existing Airport Extreme

    Hi
I have a 4th Gen Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem.  I was thinking of getting a 2013 Time Capsule to replace my existing 4th Gen 2009 Airport Extreme, to use for Time Machine Backups and also for storing other files which I can access from anywhere only.
Is Time Capsule just a great wirelsss router and backup device or is it any good as a basic file server / nas drive.
    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

Is Time Capsule just a great wirelsss router and backup device
    Yes, it is that.
is it any good as a basic file server / nas drive.
It is not a good NAS.. primary issue.. no internal backup. No way for the TC to back itself up.
No way for Time Machine to backup a network drive.
It still lacks any proper high speed connections for a second hard drive.. usb2 doesn't cut it.
The tools are poor.. actually almost non-existent. No partitioning.. so mixing backups and data is not a great idea.
    See Q3 Pondini. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Nothing has changed with this new one.
There are no media servers. no ftp, http, or any other access method for files such as is common to the basic NAS of the world.
To say nothing of rsync and all those kinds of things.
It is still slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. fine for data.. not so great for streaming media.
Remote access can be difficult if you cannot get the TC as the main router in the network.

  • Replacing Older Airport Extreme W/Time Capsule

    Greetings,
Just received my new TC, and want to replace my existing Airport Extreme (older "Mushroom shaped' one).
Do I have to setup an entirely new wireless network, or is there a way to just transfer the settings, etc. from the older Airport (network name, password, etc.)
Trying to avoid having to reconfigure all the wifi devices in the house to work on the new TC.
    Thanks
    Jim

    Thanks for the response Tesserax!
You are correct - during setup the TC provides several options including importing settings from a previous airport.
Setup was easy and I'm pleased with the results - faster WiFi in the house, and 3 separate Macs backing up seamlessly to the Time Capsule - good stuff

  • Airport Extreme Power Failure

My airport extreme died recently. We were using it for at least two years with no problems. The power light fails to turn on when plugged in - the device is unresponsive. Any way to salvage this Airport? Or am I screwed?
