Replacing existing file - keyboard command for Replace

In some apps, if you try to save a file to a location where an older version (same name) exists, you are warned and asked if you want to Cancel or Replace. Focus is on the Cancel button, as it should be. Is there a keyboard command to move focus to the Replace button? I've tried various cobinations etc and I'm sure that there is one.
EDIT: A bit of Googling came up with this excellent site
http://davespicks.com/writing/programming/mackeys.html
and the answer is Command-r

You can also enable Access for assisitve devices in the universal access pref. pane.
You can then use TAB to move the focus and SPACE to select the button.

  • Automator - meaning of "replace existing files" needed please!!!

Have just set up automator to back up to my external hard drive but there is an option to replace exisiting files. Will this replace ALL the files on my hard drive or just replace files which have been changed?
    Help greatly appreciated,
    Sgtbash17

It replaces files of the exact same name.
Files that have the exact same name, including the extension, will be replaced when you have that chosen.
Without it checked, it won't overwrite files that have the exact same name. That means those files won't be written out at all, and the files of the exact same name will still contain the previous content. Therefore, you won't have a revised backup of those particular files.
Other files that don't share the same name with any other file will be written.
Does that make sense? If a file with the same name as another file already exists in that folder, then that file will be replaced. Other files that don't have the same name as any other file will continue to exist.
The best thing to do is to try it out on a test sample before you start relying it so it won't matter if it messes up.

  • Can I change the keyboard command for full screen? I don't see the option in preferences.

Can i change the keyboard command for entering Full Screen? I don't see the option in the keyboard preferences pane.

My midi set up is fairly extensive, and what I've done is keep an up to date diagram of all my midi interfaces and device connections. I use this as the desktop background on my studio mac, and just hit F11 when I need to reference something. Simple but effective.

  • I need to find the keyboard command for "PrintScreen"

I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.5.
Processor 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo.
I'm just looking for the keyboard command for the "PrintScreen" function.
    Any help?

    Thanks, Niel,
The only way that I could print all the columns on the page was to use the printscreen function. Regular printing cut off a crucial portion of the information.
If you know of any way to bring the print screen to full size - mine would only print in a compressed version - I'd love to know that as well.
Your answer, however, was very helpful.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • System prerences won't save keyboard commands for dashboard or desktop

I clicked the checkboxes to turn on the keyboard commands for Dashboard and Desktop. I used control-up arrow for Dashboard, and control-down arrow for Desktop. When I restart, the commands don't work. I thought maybe I had made System Preferences crash, so I made a point of quitting right after making the change. When I restarted, the commands were disabled again. This has happened several times.
    What gives?

At a guess, I would think this error code has to do with the video artifacts you are experiencing. You might try reseating all the cables to the display. If the position of the screen makes a difference, there may be damage to a cable, particularly where it goes through the hinge.
Apple is the keeper of the error codes. If you have access to an Apple Store, you could probably ask about this.
Don't know about the other intermittent problems. Does an external keyboard work? If so, there's likely a problem with the internal, maybe even again, a cable or connection.
You could also try creating a new use account and see if the keyboard and mouse problems persist. If not, there could be some sort of software corruption in your usual account. Ditto with the freezing.
    Good luck!

  • Saving attachments to replace existing files

I email myself a lot of html and jpegs between my work pc and my mac at home.
When I save the attachments on my mac - instead of replacing older versions of files with the same name (ie. overwrite) I've found that it adds the files and puts a 1 on the end of the filename. So for example - instead of updating index.html when I save the attachment - I get index-1.html and then have to rename and delete the older file.
I'm sure this has only started since I upgraded to Leopard - and I'm certain it's easily fixed. But how? Any takers?

I'm sure this has only started since I upgraded to Leopard
No, that is an old tradition of Macs that goes back some way. It is to avoid overwriting a pre-existing file simply because the name is the same.
If you want the opposite fast and loose behavior, then perhaps create a folder action to perform this overwrite function that you desire, and copy those files into that.

  • Replacing existing files

Hi. I'm having a problem with multiple copies of files. I've started to upgrade songs that I already have in my iTunes library as mp3s, by importing from the original CDs as Apple Lossless files. My iTunes library and the existing files are all on an external NAS.
Previously, when I've inserted the CD, iTunes has given me the option of 'replacing existing', and has replaced both the entry on iTunes and the file itself in the iTunes Media Folder. However, a few days ago I started using a Mac, and for some reason, it has started to behave differently. Although within iTunes the mp3 appears to be replaced by the Apple Lossless, within the folder it is not, and I end up with both mp3 and Apple Lossless versions.
In Preferences, I have 'Keep iTunes media folder organised' ticked/checked.
How can I make sure that the Apple Lossless file automatically replaces the exisiting mp3 file, please?
    Many thanks.

Import the CD again using the same computer you imported the CD originally with.
Or try this script -> http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=reripasaac

  • REPLACE COLOR only allows graytones for replacement color

    Hello,
I am trying to use the REPLACE COLOR command to change a white sky to a blue sky. I am running Photoshop CS on Windows XP system. Photoshop provides two descriptions on how to use the REPLACE COLOR command and I have tried both. Howwever, for either one, when I attempt to set the color that will be used to replace the original color, the color picker always "previews" and uses a graytone rendition, not the tone I actually attempt to set. When I wag the mouse over the entire color picker swatch, the preview alway renders a graytone. If I instead type in a known 6-hex digit color identifier I still get a graytone rendition, not the actual
    color.
I am trying to change the color for only a portion of the image, so I'm using the rectangular marquee to selection the portion I want to change.
For completeness, here is a list of steps I'm performing-
1)In the Layers palette, select the layer containing the color you want to replace.
2)Use the rectangular marquee to select only a specific area in the image you wish to change.
    3)Choose Image > Adjustments > Replace Color.
4)In the Replace Color dialog box, make sure Selection is selected under the preview window.
4)In the image, click the color you want to change.
5)Double-click the Result swatch and use the Color Picker to select the replacement color and click OK.
Any clues what I'm doing wrong or what I may hav set wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ron Glos

Replace color will not work for white or black, as there is no color. There was a post about a month ago with similar topic, with some solutions. Sorry can't remember how to get there, try search with this in mind.

  • De-activating keyboard command for iTunes

I want to use control-option-space for another program.
Currently it causes iTunes to open. To disable this through the Keyboard Prefs panel I need to know the exact menu item name, but it does not appear in iTunes's menu so I cannot do that.

We're just users here.  Send feedback -- including feature requests -- to Apple via "Aperture→Provide Aperture Feedback".
There is no keyboard command.  Aperture uses the mouse "scroll" command.  You may turn up a utility which allows you to map the mouse commands to keyboard shortcuts.
You might also search the forum for posts on resizing Brushes with the Intuos4 tablet.  There may be a work-around which you can apply to your trackball.

  • Overwrite existing file not working for FTP

    Hi XI Folks,
I am trying not to overwrite the file at receiver - FTP server.
It is getting overwritten though I uncheck 'Overwrite existing file' checkbox in FTP. But the same is working fine for NFS. Please find the config details below.
    Receiver communication channel Configuration:
    Transport Protocol : FTP
    File construction mode: Create
    Put File: Use temporary file
Overwrite existing file : Not checked
The file is getting overwritten. Iam in SP15.
    Receiver Communication channel Configuration:
    Transport Protocol : NFS
    File construction mode: Create
    Write mode: Use temporary file
Overwrite existing file : Not checked
The file is not getting overwritten. It throws an error in Message monitor with wait status.
Is the "overwrite exist file - checkbox" works only for NFS & not for FTP.
    eagerly expecting relevant response,
    Kiruthika S

    Sasi,
If we have two files with the same name then what do you want to do? It is the same scenario here? If you dont check the overwrite existing file option then it can write the file also. If you check then it will overwrite. If you dont want this then you can add the timestamp to the existing file. Else you have to make sure of the naming conventions of the file.

  • Can I create a keyboard command for the Ken Burns effect?

    Friends,
I am creating a short video that consists of about 40 stills and a few video clips.  For each of the stills I want to create a Ken Burns effect.  I know that there is a keyboard command to open the crop tool.  Can I create a keyboard command that opens the Ken Burns editor?  I guess the broader question is whether I can create a macro that combines a keystroke and one or more mouse clicks?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    The Keyboard-shortcuts-editor
    ⌥ - ⌘ - K
doesn't list the 'Ken Burns'-effect as 'shortcutable' …
And I doubt, that even Automator
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2488?viewlocale=en_US
    would createany useful 'shortcuts':
Each picture is different - so, how should a 'standardised' KB work?
What does work indeed , is copy/paste of Attributes:
    create your KB for clip#1
    hit cmd-c
select clip#2 (or many) hit ⇧-⌘-V and select the 'crop' attributes ...

  • Is it possible to make a global keyboard command for an Applescript application?

I have created an application with Applescript, and I want to create a global keyboard command that brings up an input dialogue.
If that's not possible, is there a way to make a dialogue appear when the Dock icon is clicked?

The regular keyboard shortcuts work with whatever application is currently active, so that leaves option number 2.  To add a dynamic menuu item to the dock menu, you can add a couple of handlers to the CocoaAppletAppDelegate.scpt, which is located in the bundle contents of the Cocoa-AppleScript applet (created when you use the File > New from Template menu item):
on applicationDockMenu_(sender) -- dynamically add a menu item to the dock tile
set myDockMenu to current application's NSMenu's alloc's initWithTitle_("") -- don't really need a title here
myDockMenu's addItemWithTitle_action_keyEquivalent_("My spiffy new menu item", "menuAction:", "")
        return myDockMenu
      end applicationDockMenu_
on menuAction_(sender) -- do something when the dock menu item is selected
set menuTitle to sender's title() as text
        # do something
tell current application to activate -- make sure dialog is in front
display dialog "The " & quoted form of menuTitle & " menu item was clicked…"
tell application "System Events" to keystroke tab using {command down} -- switch to previous application
      end menuAction_

  • CS6: keyboard command for zoom in

In CS4 I used the keyboard command, command+space bar, to zoom in to a area I selected with the marquee tool. I used this all the time. With CS6 the same keyboard command works differently. I don't have the option to select the area I want with the marquee tool. Is there a way to do it in CS6?

Go to the zoom tool, turn off "scrubby zoom".

  • Keyboard shortcut for 'replace document colours?

    (I'm on windows 7 with acrobat 9 from cs5)
Hi all, I recently discovered the 'replace document colors' option in the accessibility preferences.
What I would like to know (and/or request if it isn't already available) is if there is a keyboard shortcut to quickly switch this preference on/off?  Or, is there a way to script something like this to add it in?
If there was a toolbar button, or keyboard shortcut to go with the other accessibility shortcuts, this feature would be even better.  My thought is that you would set your colour preferences for background/text and then use the shortcut to quickly enable or disable the custom colors as needed (similar to web browsers and their custom style sheets).

    There isn't.

  • Need for Keyboard Updater for Replacement Keyboard

Apple Care just sent me a replacement Keyboard and it works great.
My question is do I need the run the Apple Keyboard Update 1.0 again?
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/applekeyboardupdat e10.html
I suspect change is already in my 10.5.6 (Build 9G66) and it is internal to the
iMac rather than something that needs to be updated in the actual keyboard

That update was not for your Mac.
You are correct! I selected the wrong updater. I think this is the one for my iMac
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/aluminumkeyboardfi rmwareupdate10.html
I just downloaded it and got a dialog box saying
Your keyboard does not need this update
It already has the updated functionality.
