Replacing Hard Drive: Is it IDE or SATA?

I am looking to upgrade my hard drive to a larger capacity. I plan to take my old one out and put it into a drive enclosure, however I cannot seem to find anywhere in the System Profiler as to whether the Macbook's drive is a SATA connection or IDE.
Anyone care to fill me in?

Pavilion g6-1096sa - Replacement Hard Drive - Windows 7 Fresh Install - Sata Issue

A friend dropped her HP Pavilion g6-1096sa Notebook PC and the hard drive has failed (or at least I think it has).
Of course, this was before burning the restore CD's.
Before I get her to purchase a new hard drive, I wanted to install a vanilla copy of Windows 7 on a spare drive that I have (to prove 100% that the drive is faulty) but it's failing with :-
" This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk, ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in computer's bios menu ". The installer sees the drive, but won't install onto it.
It's an old 80 GB SATA II drive that I had lying around at work, which should work fine.
I've checked the bios and I can't see any options for the hard disk. I'm guessing that the bios is pretty basic, and you can't just boot into the sata controller to enable AHCI support or similar. I would have thought that AHCI support is already enabled or the original drive wouldn't have booted.
Does this model need a specific sata driver. I've checked through the driver downloads, and cannot find one for Windows 7 (found the XP version though).
Do I need a driver, or do I need to do something in the BIOS?
PS: If I put the original disk back in, I can start to load Windows 7 on it from a bootable download from Microsoft's website, but crashes at random intervals. (I think the clicking noise is giving it away though).

No one have any information on the BIOS or SATA for this model :-(

Will any 2.5" laptop SATA drive fit the Mini? I want to make sure that all the connectors and mounting holes will line up correctly. I am thinking about Western Digital Scorpio Black.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I knew I should never get rid of my old G5's. By the way, there is a browser still supported for the PPC, TenFourFox, if you're not using it already. Go to the Floodgap website (they author it) download it for free. The only thing it doesn't support is the Flash plugin, but the browser works great. Other video types are supported. It's based on Firefox, and runs most of the plugins and add-ons. It's very fast, and beats all other browsers on the browser compatibility and speed test. That's now my default on my G5's. Firefox and Safari are no longer supported. As far as the OS, both Tiger and Leopard were solid for me. The reason, as I stated before, was iMovie. The version in Tiger with iLife was far superior to what Apple changed it to. They 'dumbed it down' for the masses. Even the newest iLife 11 on my Mac Pro quad isn't is good, in my opinion. So Leopard should be fine for you. It's a much larger browser in terms of sheer megabytes and disk space, but it's fine. As far as getting an OS disc, I'm seeing Tiger for about $45.00, Leopard for $50 - 60.00 on that famous auction site. As far as RAM, I have 8GB in my G5 2.3, but you should check Activity Monitor when you are running your apps. See how much green slice you have left (unused RAM). You might find you don't need eight. A Mac Pro will grab more free RAM than a PPC machine will. I have a hard time maxing out use of my 8 on the PPC. Not true with the eight on my Mac Pro. The OS doesn't hesitate to grab and use it. You might be OK with 6GB on your PPC. More will not make you faster, as long as you still have free RAM available. As far as backup on your resurrected machine: look for a firewire enabled backup if can. Use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) and make a clone backup. Next time your PPC machine wipes out the hard drive, just take your Firewire drive and plug it into another PPC machine, and you can select it as your boot drive. You'll be back and running in five minutes. You can also take the physical drive out of your enclosure, and put it in your tower to replace the failed drive, and you'll be back to where you were in less than ten minutes, OS and all. The PowerMac has an 800 port, so you can do the 800 on the machine to an 800 port on your backup. A firewire 800 to 800 cable is only about $8.00. It runs nice and fast through the 800 port. I like the OWC Mercury Extreme enclosures. They use USB, Firewire 800, and eSATA, so all your options are open.

Nx 6310 250 GB sata replacement hard drive failed three times.

Replaced 60 GB OG. hard drive with a 250 GB. sata drive. Drive worked fine for 6 months and died. Replaced under a warranty at no charge new one lasted about 8 months and died last one lasted 3 months and is now dead. I read in the hp nx6310 info that 120 GB is the largest sata drive. Is that because that was the largest drive of the day or is it possable i'm over heating the larger drives ? nx6310 win xp pro 250 GB. 5400 rpm sata HDD. 1gig mem.

Dv6700 broken HDD "#10009 replace hard drive"

Hi, My laptop model dv6700 and harddrive: SATA 250Gb. I have made recovery discs. Issue: hard drive gave up recently and in BIOS HDD checkup it showed "#10009 replace hard drive" Query: 1)since I need to replace the hard drive, i wish to upgrade it to 500GB.Is it possible or not?? 2)if yes, are there any constraints on size,make of HDD?? 3)Once i replace my HDD how to get my old OS(i got vista home premium along with laptop)?? 4)will there be a problem if i use my recovery discs on the new 500 Gb HDD?? 5)will there be any conflict in recognizing the new HDD of 500 Gb?? Here are answers to your question.
1) You can upgrade to 500GB and its possbile without any problems
2) No constraints on size or make. You can use any brand or manufacturer of your own choice
3) You need to install your OS using recovery disks. There is a guide available over here
4) There will not be any problems if you using recovery disks on new HDD
5) There wont be any conflict. If you do face any issues, you can always post your query on the forums.
6) Unfortunately there is no other way. If the HDD test fails, it means its gone. Only option is to replace HDD.

Error message appeared after windows loads files and starts windows from the recovery DVD. An error dialog box opens after completing and indicates, This computer is not supported by the recovery discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs. error: 0100-1425 -3627-3628-3623-3624. Hit OK and system powers down.

HOW TO REPLACE HARD DRIVE WHITE MACBOOK EARLY 2009

I have a White MacBook Early 2009, I need suggestions. My Macbook is still running fine, but would like to know which Hard Drive I should purchase as replacement. Thinking of going 500GB if possible, I already downloaded the instructions. Just trying to get my ducks in order for when that time comes, hopefully not for a few more years.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the applications Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. They make a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive. http://www.bombich.com/index.html or http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

Trying to replace hard drive in the mini 110-3131DX..... I have a replacement ... How do I open the case. I see a orange slider bar in battery compartment, but no screws to take out or covers to remove. It has a solid no opening base except where the battery is removed.

What operating system are you installing on the machine?
The specs state it shipped with W7 Basic. That OS should load without issues.
If you are trying to install XP, it will not install unless you load the SATA ACHI drivers either at the F6 prompt or you need to slipstream them into a copy of your XP installation.
If you are attempting to install XP, please read this link below and that should solve that issue.
Your notebook has the Intel NM10 Express Chipset.

Need help with replacement hard drive

My hard drive has stopped working on this computer and since i only purchased it on 10/2012 I really don't want to replace it just yet. I am trying to buy a new hard drive but I would like a Seagate. I want to upgrade from 1 TB to 2TB. I was wondering if there is a Seagate product out there that would be compatable with the original hard drive but in 2 TB.The original hard drive is a HDD GNRC 1 TB SATA 3 ECO 7200 rpm 3.5". I was looking at a Seagate 2TB SATA 6.0 but I do not know is the SATA 6 will work with the original SATA 3. Can you please help me or guide me in the right direction for a replacement. Hey everyone. I had a question about replacing a hard drive for a 2012 midyear pro. I have replaced hard drives before on windows machines, but this is the first mac I have owned. It didn't come with a hard drive when I bought it, but I do have mavericks installed on a usb. As far as a new hard drive, will any 2.5 laptop hard drive work? I read it needs to be 9.5mm thick. Is that correct? As far as I am concerned, hardware is hardware and should be the same as replacing a hard drive on a dell laptop but wanted to see if apple has any weird restrictions.
Also, is there anything I need to consider or be aware of when putting in a new hard drive? Or can I just hook up the hard drive and plug in the USB and install the software onto the hard drive. Thanks

Yes. Any SATA drive will do with those specifications.

Assuming that the installer is functioning correctly, install the HDD in the MBP and engage the installer. You should come across a 4 option menu. Select Disk Utility from it. Open Disk Utility>Erase and format the HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journlaled). One you finish that, you may install the OSX.

I am having trouble finding a replacement hard drive

Evidently I blew my hard drive when I installed a web cam. Now I can't seem to find a replacement hard drive for my z61t through Lenovo online or phone service. Does anyone have any tips on where I can find a replacement? I'm so discouraged -- I should have bought a warranty but thought they should guarantee it longer than 1 year so on principle I held out. Now I am 2 months past warranty and this is where my principles got me!!! I am a fifty-something technophobe -- can any of you youngsters help me?!?!

Ibook not booting, replacing hard drive doesn't help

This one's got me stymied. It's my sister's computer (ibook g4 14" 933mhz 150gb hard drive, 640mb ram). Here are the symptoms:
1. Starts up past the apple gray screen to a blue screen.
2. Won't start up from CD either (except hardware test CD)
3. Started in verbose mode, it comes up with a couple of errors (one about applers232 something or other and the other about applepmuuser). If they would be helpful, I can reboot a couple of times to get them better (it boots past the verbose stuff to a bluescreen).
Fixes attempted:
1. Replaced hard drive (reinstalled os x 10.3 via target disk mode from another ibook g4)
2. Ran Hardware test, no problems detected
3. Booted into single user mode, fsck checks out fine (several times)
4. Ran disk utility (via target disk mode) and it comes up clean (not surprisingly)
5. Reset pram
6. Reset nvram

Are you able to boot the iBook with the other Mac utilizing TDM?
If you've not tried that, then that would be my next step. Set up the other Mac for TDM then plug it into the iBook, boot the iBook while holding the option key until you get to the startup mangaer, select the TDM Mac-drive and continue. This will help you determine if the logicboard is shot. If it runs ok with the other Mac in TDM then it most likely is not the logic board, unless its the IDE controller on the board.

IPod 4th Gen Click Wheel replaced hard drive; problems

Ok, So I replaced the 20gb hard drive with a new EXACT replacement hard drive, no other problems with iPod. But iTunes will not recognize it because the hard drive is not formatted. I tried formating it with Disk Utility but keep getting error messages. Im not sure what format to use. When the 4th gen came out Intel processors werent here so Im sure I need to simply format as Mac OS Extended. There is no HFS= format in Disk Utility. Im lost as to what to do. Please help??!

MacBook Pro does not boot past apple screen after replacing hard drive

After replacing hard drive on MacBook Pro 13 inch early 2011 model, the screen only boots to the apple logo. Do I need to re-install the OS?

The problem is that the OS is not in any where else of the MacBook Pro than in the HD / SSD. If you replace the Hard Drive, then you will need to Re-install OSX into that hard drive, it's pretty easy.
1) Power up your Macbook Pro, as fast as you can press and hold the Option key (ALT). You'll see that it opens the bootable-devices you have, you'll see a Recovery partition, click it.
(If the Hard Drive contains data do the following)
2) In the menu select Disk Utility.
3) In Disk Utility go ahead and select the Hard Drive that is inside the MBP.
4) Erase the content.
(If the Hard Drive contains no data continue with the following jumping the last 3 steps).
5) Select Re-install OSX.
6) Select the Hard Drive in which you want to install it.
Follow the steps of everything else (it should take approximately 1 hour to do the whole thing).
