Replacing library using "Create AAC Version."

I would like to replace my music with AAC verions, using the "Create AAC Version" option in the right click context menu.
Normally when you do this you end up with two of each song, the original and converted version.
I would have to select every original version manually and remove them.
Is there a better way to do this?

Yes, but perhaps I am too late...
See https://discussions.apple.com/message/22022622#22022622 The current version of the script deletes the original files. I've been thinking about making a version that archives the files to some sort of parallel "Old Media" folder instead of deleting them entirely, just in case you discover the converted tracks aren't good enough after all. Would you be interested in that version?

I just reinstalled and this is the pop up that shows "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?"  what do i do next? it just keeps popping up and loading but only gives a quit button?

    Update it.
How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update

  • You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?

Long story short, I made a backup using TimeMachine of my iMac.  I got my MBA which was being repaired and i restored from backup.  Everything works fine, except for iPhoto which is not saying:
"You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?"
    I have OS X 10.7.2 and iPhoto 9.1.4.  I've tried:
    Repairing permissions
Deleting iPhoto, installing agaian, and updating
Repaired iPhoto Library (stays stuck at 98% when rebuilding database)
I've also tried iPhoto Library manager which cannot even see the library
Tried restoring from backup from iPhoto and it messed up library (I still had my backup)
Quite frustrating - any ideas on how to get iPhoto back to life?

Dunno why Software update was not displaying the latest version of iPhoto (9.2.1 as of January 27, 2012)...updating to this has fixed the issue

  • ITunes 12 has no option to create AAC version

    iTunes 12.0.1.26
    iOS 8.0.2 (12A405) on associated iPhone 5S
    Win7 Home Prem SP1
    Core i7-4700MQ 4xcore CPU @ 2.4 GHz
129 GiB free on bootable C partition (SSD); 509 GiB free on data partition (conventional magnetic HDD)
I make original ringtones. I just created a new one, imported it to my iTunes library first as an mp3, then as a wav file. When I right-click the associated file in either its mp3 version or wav version, the "Create AAC Version" selection in the context menu no longer appears, not even as a greyed out item, even though "Create MP3 Version" does appear.
Are .m4r files still the native ringtone format for iOS 8? Has the procedure for creating ringtones changed?

In Preferences (CTRL + ,), in the General tab, click on Import Settings...
You need to select AAC Encoder in the Import Using drop down menu.
Now Create AAC Version should appear in your right-click context menu.

  • Why no "Create AAC version" option?

Using several online tutorials as a guide, I'm trying to use iTunes 10 (Windows XP) to convert a 30-second mp3 file into a ringtone. The tutorials say that even in 10, I should be able to right-click a song and have "Create AAC version" on the context menu. As you can see by the enclosed screen capture, that's not apparent. I was suprised by the "Create MP3 Version." I configured iTunes to reference existing mp3 files. I've heard that if I let it copy added files to the iTunes library it will convert them to AAC files, so I unchecked the copy-to-library option in preferences long ago. Any tips on how to create an AAC from iTunes?

  • Create AAC Version failing in iTunes 8 for large files

    Hi,
I'm having trouble converting a few large (1gb+) MP3 files to AAC versions.
The files are Audiobooks which have been ripped from CD, then merged into a single MP3 file (with a track CUE file created so I can add the chapter marks and create a final resulting M4B file).
The MP3 files are all encoded at 44.1KHz sample rate, 64Kbps bitrate, Mono audio. When converting anything under 1GB (using iTunes' Create AAC Version option), it seems to convert fine, however as soon as I try a file over 1GB it seems to start as expected, then get approx 2/3rds through, then restart. the restart however, does not start from the beginning, it starts from the point where it had got to. The resulting M4A file is corrupt and unplayable.
Am I doing anything wrong here, or is there some sort of size/length limitation on AAC encoded audio in MP4 containers?
On a side note, I have set the AAC import options to 44.1KHz, 64KBps bitrate, Mono audio, but this does not seem to be adhered to when converting an MP3 file, instead taking whatever settings iTunes seems to think as right...

    Hi,
That software looks to be working perfectly so far - not only has it changed me from using three tools to do what this one does on its own, but it's also the first that's given me a clue as to why the other tools were failing!
When I first got it to convert the chaptered MP3 files across to AAC, it came up with a warning message saying something along the lines of "The audio files you have queued are a total of x,xxx, xxx, xxx frames long, which is longer than the AAC standards can accomodate. The following tracks will be removed...". Looks like it wasn't the filesize at all, but the bitrate was too high, and went over the file's limits that way instead.
Quick note on the settings: I tried the iTunes standard "64K Podcast" settings first of all, but the sample rate got set to 22K, which caused the speech to go all robot-like, and the S's slurred. Had to bump it back up to 44K (with 32K stereo bitrate, set to mono so 16K overall).
Overall, a very useful tool, thanks Chris!

  • You can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use the latest version of iphoto

you can't open photo library using this version of iphoto. you have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. please quit and use latest version of iphoto. iphoto 11 is installed.

This is a message you got?
If so, as your post isn't clear, it may be a bogus message caused by a corrupt database.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Opening iphoto I get an error message that says "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto.  You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto.  Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto.

Opening iphoto I get an error message that says "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto.  You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto.  Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto."  I wouldn't have a clue as to how to change to a new version of iphoto even if I wanted to.

If you don't have a backup you can resort to give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • ITunes crashes every time I attempt 'Create AAC Version'

Why, all of a sudden, using Windows XP and latest version of iTunes, does my iTunes crash every time I attempt to 'Create AAC Version' of any song? I've been converting to AAC for years, and I don't think I downloaded any updates recently but out of nowhere I can no longer use this crucial space-saving feature.

I was mistaken, the crash does not occur with just any song.. it is just one cluster of files. Even still, might anyone have a diagnosis and/or remedy for this issue?

  • How to create AAC version of a song?

Most websites say that I just have to right click a song in iTunes to creat AAC version, but I don't see that option. There are "Convert ID3 Tags", "Reset Play", "Creat MP3 Version", and "Consolidate files". I want the AAC version of the song so I can use it as a ringtone.

Change the default iTunes encoder to AAC. That option will then appear.

  • Create AAC Version missing - Version 12.0.1.26

I have a windows 8.1 PC fully patched, using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, where in the world is the Create AAC Version on Right Click? it is not anywhere in
    the context menu.

Actually, I'm getting the entire menu now - over 20 entries - without pressing Shift. Doesn't matter if I'm in My Music or Playlists.
Not sure why. I suppose it would be a good idea to read the manual, if there is one.

  • "create aac version" only makes another .m4a file...

I am trying to use the "Create AAC Version" (right click on album) to create some files for playing in the car. When I select that option in the dropdown I find iTunes does indeed create a copy of the songs on the album but the file extension is duplicated to .m4a (same as original) and not .acc
Would appreciate any insight into what's going on here or what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks!

m4a is aac, it's just Apple's way of naming it.  Change the extension to .aac if your car demands it but I am not sure how iTunes will react.  If it is tons of files you can probably find an online bulk re-namer (I use a free one but they charge for it now with newer OSX versions).

  • Create AAC version grayed out iTunes 11

    Hi!
I am running in Mavericks, iTunes 11. I have a song that I would like to convert to ringtone for my iPhone 5S.
I have followed the preliminary steps:
And I have made sure I have the proper Import settings:
However, when I go to File > Create New Version, the Create AAC Version option is grayed out:
I have tried both songs purchased through iTunes and songs I previously had, non-protected. The song is correctly highlighted. Has any of you faced this same issue? How did you resolve it?
    Thanks in advance!

Why can't some one explain this problem clearly even from apple guys. ClaraMGR i know  your problem clearly.
Latest I tunes can't convert your mp3 to ACC even if you change the extension from mp3 to ACC it wont allow you to drop in the tones.
This is not easy task, am computer tech guy i know how things works but i always ended up fighting with user interface with iTunes its very complected for general  users. I spend almost a half day to figure out whats wrong with it. finally made my own crack. Am still not sure if this is right way but 100 percent it works not matter what your format is.
I imagine you Followed all this steps.
    1. iTunes preffs > General. Click the Import Setings button and set it to AAC.
    2. Make sure iTunes prefs > General has Tones ticked
    3. This is the key point you need some converter mp3 to AAC i used soundforge  open a mp3 in soundforge got to file save as AAC/MP4
    4. rename the saved AAC to m4r. IF you don't see the extension type in to youtube  unhide extension in windows.
    5. Drag and drop the file in to itunes tone and go enable the itunes tone sync and click the sync it will convert the file to ringtone and puts in to your itunes tone folder automatically you done. Thats all i hope this will help some one.
    6. got to iphone>general>sounds you will see your file on the top
Why this is not a one click button , Would be a lot easier if drag the file and right click convert to tone job done right. Why would some one make this so complected to spend days to figure out this is not a some thing we are achieving this is just a insane why would we spend hours of our valuable time to make ringtone this way. this isn't a one thing even i don't know how to grab my own photos from my iPhone its like am running circles around again and gain got nothing. Itunes is not user friendly, I really don't know how itunes software development user testing tools were implemented its pathetic. Even when i open to buy a apps thats insane shocking  i never open that again, i dont find any proper apps, none of them is user friendly its so confusing that freaks me out spending my time on it, Am big fan of apple but am trying to convince my self with itunes but nooooooooooooooo its not easy and i got no time for thisssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • "create AAC version" generates no output

    Hello,
i am trying to create new ringtones.
i believe i followed the instruction correctly.
after i had the the start time and end time specified with both checkboxes checked, i right clicked on the song and selected create AAC version.
the tool bar read "converting the song" and i heard some notification tone, but i didn't see any new version created in the list.
    any idea?
    thank you very much

Which version of iTunes are you using?
Which version of Mac OS is your computer running?
    Kittiberius wrote:
Fella if it was that simple I would be sorted. Cut down song to under 30 secs made sure import was AAC . Highlighted an right clicked song but you have to go into advanced tab in ois 5.
iOS 5 is on your iPhone.
You select and convert the files in iTunes. (which the latest is 10.5.3)
The option to select Create XXX version was removed from right click in version 9 but was restored in version 10 (I believe).

  • ITunes create AAC version cuts track length

I tried everything from deleting and adding the songs. and Installing uninstalling iTunes. I don't know what to do anymore. iTunes cuts down the track time of the converted version and yes, This is happening to the most of the plays. I used everytime because I always convert my MP3s to iTunes M4A version but now it's broken. I found a same thread to this issue here, but I don't think they already found a solution. I know I can use another 3rd party software to convert my tracks but I know iTunes converts different and now these please help me.
Sometimes iTunes cuts down 1sec of the songs total time but it still matter to me.
I hope you can help me. But sometimes its worst cutting down almost 20sec of the song.
    (check out the last song)

Same. Ever since i updated my iTunes, a lot of crazy things are happening like when a drag an album and you will see the playlist sidebar there forever until you restart iTunes and more. I need to create AAC version of my files so I can add explicit and clean tags to some of my songs,
The only solution I know: If you're using Windows, try creating a new user account or turn on the guest account. Then open iTunes there and convert your files. Then, Copy the converted files to your admin account. It will work for a "while"
