Replacing lost iPod and restoring library

I just replaced my lost iPod Touch with a new one. How do aI go about loading my existing library on the new device when I don't have the old one to transfer from?

Maybe here:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
Restore the new iPod from the backup of your old iPod. See:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore via iTunes all your synced media has to be in the iTunes library since the backup does not include synced media. Restoring from the iCloud backup will also restore iTunes purchases.
To redownload iTunes purchases:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

    will apple replace lost ipods?

"Isn't there a way for Apple to track the lost ipod's serial number"
    No.
"they wouldnt be able to tell me because the registry is confidential, how is that fair"
Very fair indeed. Notice the word "confidential"? Do you want Apple to give to anyone the personal details details contained on their data base? Including yours? Supposing I were to make a malicious call to Apple to report that the iPod you rightfully own was stolen from me and they gave me all your personal details. Would you be happy with that that? I suspect not. Supposing they then made use of the serial number to block the use of the iPod on your computer every time you connected it? Happy with that? No, me either. That kind of system would be open to all kinds of abuse. And what about the 1000's of stolen iPods that must find their way on to eBay every year? Should Apple track those also?
"Apple should really find a solution to the problem of lost ipods"
There's a very easy solution. Don't lose it. You really think that Apple has nothing better to do than keep track of lost/stolen iPods? That's the job of law enforcement, not Apple.
I do sympathize with your loss, and know how upset you must be, but it is unreasonable to lay the blame at Apple's door. If you report the loss to the Police, and they recover it, then Apple will liaise with them to return it to it's rightful owner. That is all you can rightfully expect.

  • Lost ipod and possibly restored

I had an iPod touch at least two years ago. I believe that it had been stolen from my home. I didn't realize that it was gone for quite some time, so I did not create a police report as I assumed that it was already too late. I still have the iPod and serial number attached to my Apple ID, but I am assuming that the person who took the device, immediately restored the device as I cannot locate it on the Find my iPhone app. I don't think I had the app on my iPod, either before it was lost. I currently have the app on my iPhone, and I've been waiting on a location, or for ANYTHING to happen, but nothing has...
The weird thing about it is that when I go to my purchased Apps in my Appstore, it shows Apps that I have not ever purchased. This leads me to believe that the iPod is somehow still connected to my AppleID.... How can this be if they restored the iPod? I haven't checked my Apps until here recently, but I've noticed a lot of new apps added to my list. Is there any way that I can triangulate my device with the apps that were purchased and when they were purchased? Is it too late to file a police report at this point? Ugh. I wish I had reported this as soon as I had noticed it had happened. Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

I will change my appleID password, but I just wish there was some way that Apple could track the device based on the serial number, date, time, and location from when the app was loaded on the unit. IP addresses or something. I just can't believe that with the technology that we have today, that there's still no way for them to triangulate the unit's whereabouts. I say this on behalf of ALL Apple users that have had something lost or stolen.....
I really do appreciate the help! And thank you guys for responding so quickly.
As far as the Find my iPod/iPhone, since the device didn't have that app on it, could that be the reason why the FMiP app on my phone is not detecting my iPod? I've tried the lost iPod. And all of the options on it... I haven't been able to get anything from the device. And there no way that they are getting apps without going online.. I just don't get it...

  • Lost iPod and how to get iTunes to link to a new one

I recently lost my Nano and am looking at getting a Touch to replace it. A few of the albums in my iTunes library were purchased rather than imported from CD. Will I be able to synch those albums with my new iPod, if not any way of doing it manually?

When you first connect the iPod, you see the set up assistant/licensing agreement and of course you must click "agree" in order to proceed.
Then you'll be prompted to name the iPod and choose a method of auto syncing your iPod. If you want to manually mange the content of your iPod, remove the check mark from the auto sync option. Click "done" and that takes you to the registration screen. Then your done, and you can begin transferring music from your iTunes library including music purchased from the iTunes store.

  • How do I unauthorize lost iPod and a previously owned (now sold) mac?

I lost my ipod and I want to unauthorize it from my iTunes account.
Also I sold my old mac and forgot to unauthorize it before I sold it.
    Can I do this?

Sorry, but in both cases the answer is "no".
An iPod doesn't "authorize" to an iTunes Store account, per se, it's linked to a particular iTunes library. You can't prevent someone from playing any tracks that were on the iPod, but they won't be able to transfer those tracks to iTunes and play them without being able to authorize to your iTunes Store account which they won't be able to do.
As to your second question, you cannot yourself deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead unit now. Once you reach five total authorizations, a button will appear in your iTunes Store account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems, so that would at that time recover the now-useless authorization.
You might want to change your iTunes Store account password, just as a precaution, if you didn't erase all the data on your old computer before you sold it.
    Regards.

  • Lost ipod and not sure where, can an ipod be temporarily disabled ?

lost ipod but maybe at home somewhere, not sure where its been lost. can it be temporarily disabled ?, just in case it turns up

I do not know what yo mean by disabled and what model iPod y ohave:
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product

  • Lost Ipod and Itunes

I recently lost my Ipod and plan to replace it.
I have no idea how it works with Itunes and associating to a certain Ipod. Will I lose my downloaded songs from Itunes because I am trying to move them to a new Ipod or does it matter?

You won't lose anything. You will be fine. Just plug up your new iPod and you will be good to go.

  • How do I set up my second Ipod and itunes library (same computer)?

I recently filled up my first Ipod, and want to load my second Ipod's software on the same computer without causing interference and problems with my first ipod and library. How do I load my second ipod's software and create a library just for it, without the libraries becoming confused, or not recognizing ipods, or double copying songs?

  • How do I backup and restore library and playlists?

I have 14 days left on my Win 7 trial version and now need to backup itunes. In the advance itunes preferences tab I have my music folder on a separate hard drive (K:\) but I dont see anything pertaining to playlists. How do i save playlists and what is the process needed to restore library and playlists once I get the OS up and running?
    Thanks in advance.

You need the itunes database. It's a file named iTunes Library.itl
Just to be safe, my advice is to back up this folder
    C:\users\ username \Music
That will include the itunes folder and that ITL file.

  • 7.0.2 crashes when click between iPod and music library

I just upgraded to 7.0.2. iTunes recognizes my iPod and will even play the music, but if I click on the music library after having clicked on anything in my connected iPod, iTunes quits without even an error message. I just wiped my 1.6 Ghz PowerPC G5 and reinstalled 10.4, then upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2. I have a 5G iPod video. 7.0.1 works just fine with my iPod on my iBook.
    Help!
    Thanks.
    1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

I think it's fixed. I followed the instructions on this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717600&tstart=0
and reinstalled 7.0. First I put iTunesX.pkg and iTunes 7.0.2 in the trash, then I ran the installer. iTunes still behaved badly until I emptied the trash. Now iTunes and my iPod play nicely together unless I click on the iPod while it's still loading, in which case iTunes crashes again.

I had to replace my IPOD when the old one broke. When I go to ITUNES it won't let me register the new IPOD because I arleady have an account. How do I eliminate the old IPOD and register the new one?

You don't need to create a new iTunes account to register a product.

Sorry to hear about your iPod being stolen. That's
    awful.
Just hook up the new iPod and your iTunes library
    will sync to it.
There's nothing special you need to do.
Hi! I have a similar issue with a new ipod and an old library, but mu ipod is not automatically updating. Even when I click the "update Tiffany's ipod" option from itunes...it just doesn't update! My ipod remains totally empty even theough I'm looking at my library on the computer screen.

  • Lost ipod and putting on another one

I had an Ipod shuffle and it was stolen. Now I am wanting to install on another type of Ipod. I tried putting on a friends Ipod and it would not let me becuase itunes did not reconize it. I am I going to have the same trouble with the new one that I am going to buy? Is there any way to take off the old Ipod shuffle off my Itunes account?

You should be able to plug in a new iPod to your existing iTunes account and start using it. You do not have to remove your shuffle from anywhere or anything.
The issue with your friend's iPod is something else going on. If you get a new ipod and it does that, post back.
