Replacing MI424WR Rev F Router

I got Asus RT-AC68U high speed router. Have it hooked to my MI424WR Rev F router as an WL Access Point. MI424WR was having issues connecting to my WiiU. The Asus has no issues. I want to make the Asus the main router (much faster). I know CAT5 to ONT. Can I get my TV guides to work?

As long as you give the ActionTec an Internet connection despite your ASUS being the main router (basically, hang the ActionTec off of your ASUS and use it as a switch or an additional Wi-Fi AP), your TV Guide info and Video on Demand will continue working. The only things that won't work are Remote DVR and On-Screen Caller ID.
See this page for more info: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077
My on screen caller id works fine, via the double natt'd vz router - you just need to forward to the VZ router the verizon fios service port tat were created on the VZ router.

Thanks for that. I am in the process of getting a rev. E router as my primary router. It will replace a rev. D router, so the NAT table should be better.

  • Bad file signatures firmware upgrade MI424WR rev G

    Hello,
I am not entirely sure if I needed a firmware upgrade since all was working ok, but when I attempted to upgrade the firmware on my MI424WR rev G router to to 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.11.6-MI424WR.rmt I got an bad file signatures error msg. I tried it several times and doublechecked I had the correct router model. Also, is this device supposed to be downloading and installing such updates by itself? Thank you.

The ActionTec routers are set by Verizon to automatically download firmware upgrades, so yes they are "supposed" to. At times you can run a manual firmware upgrade or even downgrade if you are having issues.

  • MI424WR (Rev. F) - Wireless Broadband Router - Need Rev G for NAS

I want to put a Buffalo NAS storage device on the USB port on the MI424WR (Rev. F) - Wireless Broadband Router, but Actiontec says a firmware upgrade to Rev G is needed to do this. If I do the upgrade (will it even allow it?) will I trash my router such that it won't work (and I may not be able to restore it to Rev F)? Anyone have any experience attempting this?

    davef wrote:
Not sure what you mean by "not enabled". I use this USB port on the router to charge my EVO smartphone.
There is indeed power on the USB port, so charging USB devices does work.
What I meant by "not enabled", is that there is no firmware support of any kind.
    No mass storage driver, etc.

  • Guest Network access issue on Apple Airport Extreme 802.11AC router and Actiontec MI424WR Rev.1

I contacted Apple because I am not able to create any guest Network on my Airport Extreme because I was told that my modem needs to be simple.  Per Apple: "The Guest Network feature will not operate correctly unless your "main" AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem........not a modem/router (such as the  Actiontec MI424WR Rev.1) or gateway type of device that is often furnished by Internet Service Providers to their customers."
So is it possible to make this version of Actiontec a simple modem. Is this even possible or will I need a new modem?
NOTE: I disabled the wireless functionality of the actiontec.

Do you have FiOS TV ? You can completely bridge the ActionTec or take it out of the equation entirely if you don't have TV to worry about. Or, you can make the Apple router your primary and put the ActionTec behind it, with the trade-off that things like Remote DVR and Caller ID on TV won't work the best.

  • MI424WR – Rev I LAN Speeds

I'm trying to figure out if the LAN speed on Actiontec MI424WR – Rev I is it 10/100 or 10/100/1000 ? If it is 10/100/1000 how to I go about getting verizon to send me a router that works correctly, Asking because I just got off the with them and they could not even tell me the speed of the LAN ports, all they wanted to talk about was my internet speed I did try to
explain that my question had nothing to do with that to no avail.
    Thanks for the assistance

You can download the Rev I user manual here:
    http://www.verizon.com/cs/groups/public/documents/adacct/vz_bhr3_rev_i_user_manual.pdf
If you look on page 9 you'll see "Integrated wired networking with 4-port 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet switch and MoCA."
    And on page 15:
The LAN Ethernet ports connect devices to the FiOS Router via Ethernet cables
to create a local area network (LAN). The LAN Ethernet ports are 10/100/1000
Mbps auto-sensing ports, and either a straight-through or crossover Ethernet
cable can be used when connecting devices to the ports.
In addition, as I mentioned earlier, you should be able to see the labels 10/100/1000 around the LAN ports on the router, showing the LED indication at which speed a device is connected.
    Both On=1G!
It's sad if Verizon tech support doesn't know this, and I can't understand that, but it is what it is.

  • How do you replace a Virgin wireless router with a time capsule?

    Hi Folks
i have just bought a brand new 1tb time capsule yesterday and im trying to connect it too my virgin modem and replace the virgin wireless router i already have.....i thought it would be an easy setup of just plugging in the ethernet cable into the time capsule..but this has not worked??..can this be done?? i have restarted all devices too!...i am now clueless!
the the time capsule has backed up my hard drive (mac book pro) with no problems!
    kind regards
    kathdol

Are you talking about a separate modem and Virgin router, rather than their wretched 'Superhub' (modem and router combined) - the latter is a whole different can of worms.
Assuming the former, you should be able to remove the Virgin router and plug your Time Capsule into the modem: you will need to power down the modem and leave it for a few minutes (to forget the MAC address of the Virgin router), then plug in the TC and power up the modem. Make sure that the TC is set to 'Share a public IP number', not 'Distribute a range of IP numbers' or 'Bridge mode'. (If the interface is the same as the Airport Express it's 'Manual Setup'>'Internet' (in the toolbar)>Internet settings.

  • I recently replaced my dead airport router with a netgear91-5g router and synced it successfully to my Lexmark Pro 915 printer and my computer and yet when I try to print wirelessly I get the message: "printer not connected; printer offline".

I recently replaced my dead airport router with a Netgear91-5g router and synced it successfully to my Lexmark Pro 915 printer and my computer; yet when I try to print wirelessly I get the message: "printer not connected; printer offline". Lexmark support verified that my printer was connected to the new router and the problem was with the computer's printer configuration and they could reconfigure it online if I paid for their "Premium Support" services ($119 for one year, 3 fixes). I declined, feeling sure that this is something I could do if I knew how. Could it be an incompatability issue with OS 10.8.3?

You saved me $$$ that I can ill afford on my fixed income. I was very unhappy with the "support" from Lexmark... what a rip off!  Thank you dwb!

  • Replacing the DMVPN hub router

We are replacing our current 2921 router, Version 15.2(4)M2, with a 3925 Version 15.2(4)M6. It is the DMVPN hub router for 6 spoke routers. We cut and pasted the configuration from the old router to the new. We confirmed internet connectivity from clients on the inside. But none of the DMVPN tunnels will set up. As we were in a very short maintenance window we did not have a lot of time to troubleshoot and had to revert to the old router. Is there some procedure we need to implement to force the tunnels to come up?

Because you are changing the Hardware and copy past the config. Spokes will not re register themselves at HUB until you reset them again. Then they will register themselves again in the NHRP table at the new HUB..

  • Replacing and old wireless router with a Airport Extereme

I recently purchased a Airport Extereme. I replaced my old wireless router that connected directly from my phone jack. I can not get my Airport to connect the same way. What am I missing?
    Neill

Your old wireless router may have been a combination modem and router. The AirPort Extreme still needs a modem. It can be either a DSL or cable modem, but it requires one with an Ethernet port - the Extreme cannot connect directly to a landline telephone system.

  • Can I enter Google DNS in MI424WR Gen 2 router/modem?

    I have a Actiontec MI424WR Gen 2 router/modem.
I want to use Google DNS. I had read that even if I enter the Google DNS that Verizon will overwrite them and use their own DNS. Is that true?
An option would be to diable the Verizon DNS and enter Google DNS in each computer/component. Would that be better?

No you can use whatever DNS you want.
Entering DNS settings in the Verizon MI424WR router to opt out of DNS AssistanceNote: The Verizon MI424WR router screens may vary slightly from those shown below, depending on when you purchased your Verizon router and the version of firmware loaded on it.
Open a Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address bar at the top of the screen.
Enter your router user name and password into the login screen.
Select your time zone in the Time Zone field.
    Click OK.
    Click My Network.
    Click Network Connections.
Click the Edit icon for the Broadband Connection type that has "Connected" in the "Status" column. Don't confuse the Broadband Connection with the Network (Home/Office). In the example below, "Connected" is displayed in the Status column for the "Broadband Connection (Ethernet)," so the Edit icon would be clicked in the Action column of that row.
When the Broadband Connection Properties screen displays, look about halfway down the screen for the DNS Servers information. Write down the DNS server addresses, and then clickSettings at the bottom of the screen.
Find the DNS Server area about halfway down the screen.
Change the last octet of the Primary and Secondary DNS Server addresses to 14. For Example:
You look up the DNS information and the server numbers are:
    123.123.123.12 Primary DNS
    123.123.123.12 Secondary DNS
You would change the addresses to the following when statically assigning them to the computer or modem/router.
    123.123.123.14 Primary DNS
    123.123.123.14 Secondary DNS
Note that the .14 is the special set of servers that will opt you out of the DNS Assistance program.
    Click Apply.
Click Apply to confirm that you won't be able to connect to Verizon while the DNS server information is saved.
Review the updated Network (Home/Office) DNS settings to confirm your new DNS settings have been saved.
    Click Apply.
Close the Verizon MI424WR router setup window.
    Restart your computer.
After your computer restarts, open a web browser and enter http://www.verizon.com/ to test your new DNS settings. The Verizon home page should display.

  • Have a static IP for internet access - how do I replace my Linksys wireless router with Time Capsule?

Have 5 macs on an ethernet network - some wired and some wireless to a Linksys router.  My provider uses static IP and DSL for internet access.  I am replacing an existing Linksys router with the Time Capsule.  The Static IP settings I have are IP address, Gateway, Mask, primary DNS and secondary DNS.  The Airport Utility is not as straight forward as the Linksys setup.  There is not a place to list gateway.  Consequently I am unable to connect to the internet and am back on the Linksys router until I get this resolved.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated !

You enter the static public IP address info on the TCP/IP tab within the Airport Utility. For a static address, use Configure IPv4 = Manually. You use the Router field for the Gateway address.

  • Bridging Actiontec MI424-WR Rev E Router to NETGEAR WGR614 v9 Router

I would like any information on how to succesfully bridge the MI424-WR Rev E router to the NETGEAR WGR614 V9 ROUTER.
I would also like it to keep On DEMAND features, as every time I attempt to fix this bridge, I lose all widgets and on demand.
The reason for my switchover is because the router provided with the verizon fios, is just awful. The signal strength is terrible, and although it is a G class WiFi router, the NETGEAR router which I am switching over to, is also a G CLASS router and can keep FULL SIGNAL throughout the entire house, where as the VERIZON PROVIDED router, loses a bar as soon as I step out of the bedroom door. That is LITERALLY 6 feet away.
If I can't switch it over succesfully now, the only other option is to switch to cablevision, due to their competitive internet speeds and the fact they supply you with a free N GRADE router.
Please help, it's an utter pain.
IT IS CONNECTED VIA COAX to the Verizon BOX downstairs

  • Replace Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I with Linksys WRT1900AC?

Hello, and thank you in advance for any and all help.
Recently, the internet has been a little slow in the household for things like gaming and media streaming, things that seem to put a lot of strain on the old actiontec that Verizon supplied us with. I have decided I wanted to upgrade to the new generation of AC routers. After reading some things online I have decided to go with the Linksys WRT1900AC.
I'm not an expert on networking, by any means, and was wondering how I might go about doing this. I assume I would need to replace the actiontec with a modem to plug into my new router? Or could I use the actiontec as a modem? Also, could I expect a lot of improvement in speed for things like XBOX 360, XBOX ONE, iPhones, etc?
Thanks again, I really appreciate your time.
    -Doug

Let me get out of way one point first....FiOS doesn't use a modem.  The Actiontec you're using is a router and no modem is involved, as it is with cable service.
With that out of the way, a couple of questions:
Do you have FiOS TV service or just Internet?
Is the speed improvement you're hoping for via wifi or an hard-wired (Etherntet) connection.
And if it is better wifi speeds you're looking for, are the devices you mentioned, Xbox 360, etc., in the same room as the Actiontec or in another part of the house?

  • Actiontec MI424WR Rev. F Router Reboot

    Hello all,
I have a rev. F router and everytime I make a change to the router's system settings the router blows up and reboots. I have been watching the syslog carefully to see if anything shows up but nothing I can make out. I am running firmware version 20.19.8, and this seems to be the most current.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Steve

What particular settings are you changing? There are a good handful of settings that make the routers reload modules or completely reboot due to how major of a setting it is, but for stuff like Port Forwarding and the Wireles settings, they should not warrant a reboot. UPnP and the Firewall, for example often requires the reloading of several modules, so this might be causing reloads if you're touching those settings but they should be nothing more than all connections dropped for a second or two and the entire unit doesn't shut down and perform a full reboot.
Does your system log indicate it is rebooting or does it show logs from before the reboot?
