Replacing Monitor on ibook

Hi:
A friend of mine dropped her ibook G4 and the monitor stopped working. Took it to the Apple store and they said it was just the monitor. Not wanting to pay the amount that Apple quoted, she purchased an LCD screen on ebay. She talked to the person selling and said that it would work with her model.
She received one and it was installed, but it just blank blue. She assumed it was defective and returned and they just sent another. Same problem.
So my question, does the actual manufacturer of the screen important?
This is what she sent me:
"Either your MAC does not like this LCD or you have to get the same LCD.
The one they sent you is:  Samsung LTN121X1-L02
The one that broke is: CHI MEI N121X5-L03 Rev C1"
Thanks for your help and insight!

Jason, I'm not sure, I'm just going to piggyback on your question - how much do the LCDs differe between models, and how can you find out what kind of LCD is installed on the machine?
Good luck to your friend!

  • Replacement keyboard for iBook G4 (M9419LL/A) 1.2GHz, 14"

I've seen three different P/Ns listed for iBook keyboards:
    922-6637 (Late 2004)
    922-6189 (Early 2004)
922-6913 (where does this one work)
I'm having difficulty locating any 922-6189 keyboards.
    Does P/N 922-6913 support my (early 2004, M9419LL/A) G4, 1.2GHz, 14" iBook?
    Thanks!

Hi and welcome, I looked at some of the more popular repair and part houses and it appears that all three are reconized as replacements for the iBook G4 early 2004 model. It might be just a slight color or transparency thing. You could do some more searching by just google-ing 922-6189.
Here is a offer from ebay:

  • Replacement Monitor dv7 1273cl

Where can I find the total information about the monitor for 1273cl, e.g. part number and compatible parts? Does HP sell replacement monitors, without the need of there repair service?
I don't just want to buy something because it looks right, I need full details.

A dv7-1237cl is a notebook not a desktop PC. A notebook has no monitor it has an LCD display. So why do you want a replacement LCD display? You can purchase a display if you want. That is not a problem.

  • No Wireless signal After LCD Replacement on My iBook G4

My iBook G4 had a broken screen so I bought the LCD display and replaced the screen. But now my Airport gets no signal. I know I didn't break anything on the card nor the antenna. Any ideas???

I had the hard drive replaced on my iBook and Airport stopped working. Turns out they needed to remove the Airport card to get at the hard drive, and forgot to plug the airport card back in. Opened the case, plugged it back in and it works like a charm.

  • Looking for a replacement monitor?

My original 17" Apple Studio Display is going bad and needs replacing. I have both DVI & ADC ports on the back of my G5.
Can I use any LCD with a DVI input? Samsung's website shows connecting to a mac using a D-sub connection? I was hoping to plug & play using DVI to DVI?
I am looking at a Samsung, NEC, or Viewsonic widescreen in 20" or 22". Any recommendations for a seamless transition?
    Thanks!

    Hi-
Can I use any LCD with a DVI input?
With no greater than 1920x1200 optimal resolution, Yes.
The three listed makers are all reported favorably by Mac users, and are all plug and play to the DVI port on your graphics card.
Add Acer to your list of possibilities- very nice, economical monitors.

  • Blurry and shaking monitor on iBook G4.

I have an iBook G4 that is about 2.5 years old. Just today I started to have problems with my monitor. It's blurry in some spots, clear in others. (I can move a text file around on the screen and see the words go in and out of focus.) It also shakes, sometimes by as much as 10 or 15 pixels in any direction, about once every few seconds. I haven't dropped the laptop recently (or ever, to be honest) and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary that may have caused these problems. Does anyone have any clues or suggestions as to what might be going on?
If it helps to know: when the computer has just been turned on and is loading, everything is perfectly clear and normal. After the menu bar loads, the screen quickly becomes blurry and expands a bit (I know it "expands" because the dock is lower and closer to the periphery of the screen). The same thing happens when I shut down or restart my computer: it'll be blurry and shaking, but after all the applications close and it's ready to turn off I notice that my screen is clear and normally-sized again.
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT: Also, it might help to know that the shakiness doesn't seem to correspond to me moving my cursor or anything like that... and that the blurry spots are distributed throughout the screen and aren't just on the edges.

    Hey Madam,
First try an external monitor and post back.
The first thing that comes to mind is the GPU and it's possible that a shim repair will fix it.

  • Connecting Samsung 913n monitor to ibook -screen resolution?

    Hi,
I've bought a new monitor - Samsung 913n - and want to connect it to my ibook. No joy so far!
I have the adaptor and there seems to be a link between them, as the monitor says I've lost the signal when I unplug the adaptor.
One possibility seems to be that there is not an option for the correct screen resolution when I go to the Display preferences. The monitor is 1280 x 1024, but I only have three options which are all smaller than this.
I have reinstalled my system software but no luck.
    Any help appreciated!

Hi, Nikki. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You are stuck with the screen resolution of the iBook. There is no way to increase it. Sorry.

  • External monitor with ibook as desktop

Is there a way to close the lid of my ibook and use it as a desktop when I'm at home connected to an external monitor? Does that make sense?

I found the iBook G4 manual and could find nothing referring to the question you have. About the only info I could find sent me to the Mac's built in Help function. Below is the quote from the manual.
For More Information on Using an External Monitor or TV
Additional information on using and configuring an external monitor is available in
Mac OS Help. Choose Help > Mac Help from the menu bar and search for “monitor.”

  • Connecting iBook G3 as second monitor for iBook G4

I want to know if (and then how) I can connect my iBook G4 (running on OSX (10.4.5)) to an iBook G3, ultimately connecting the iBook G3 to a data projector, so that I can use presenter tools in PowerPoint.
iBook G4, iBook G3 Mac OS X (10.4.5) iBook G3 will be connected to the data projector
    iMac G5; iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

If I understand what you want to do, you want to use another iBook as a second monitor. Is that correct? If so, there's no way to get video into the second iBook. There's only a video output. You can connect your iBook to another monitor now or to a video projector. The image on the second monitor would mirror the iBook's. Screen Spanning Doctor allows you to have the desktop span across two monitors. Be aware though that SPDr is a system hack and could void your warranty if you use it.

  • Connecting Monitor to iBook G4 - Resolution

    Hello
I connected my Samsung SyncMaster 920n 19'' to my iBook G4 but i am not able to set it's native resolution which is 1280 x 1024
I read in iBook G4 User's Guide this: "Note: Your iBook G4 doesn't support external display resolutions above 1024x768"
But everything looks so huge on my monitor with this kind of resolution.. And i was wondering if there is anything that i could do to set it's native resolution.. any workarounds.. or hacks.. ?

no, there are no workarounds. you have to use it at supported resolution or get another monitor.

  • Using iMac G4 monitor for iBook G4

I am using a iBook G4 an got an iMac G4. Is there a way using the monitor of the iMac like an external monitor while working on my iBook?
    Thanks
    Japday

Not unless you learned how the monitor hooks up to the iMacs logic board, then rewired it to VGA or DVI port (somehow) and then hooked it up via your mini VGA or DVI connector on your iBook. In other words, if you did this, it your iMac would have no screen should you ever want to use it, unless you undid the hacking. It would be more trouble than its worth, lets put it that way.

  • Connecting a Samsung monitor onto Ibook G4

I'm totally new to MAC so pardon my ignorance. I have an IBook G4 (inherited from my son) and I love it, but the monitor is small for all the time usage - hard on my eyes.
I have a Samsung monitor that measures 20" across and would like to use it, if possible. Can such a small MAC power a larger monitor like this? And what kind of adapter would I use? The Samsung monitor has the kind of port that has 2 screws on the sides.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Okay, so here's what you'll need to order/pick up.
The mini-VGA to VGA adapter(they changed the name & I almost didn't find it!): http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
and a plain old VGA cable, like the one pictured here:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-45138-Ultima-Video/dp/B00030AXNQ/ref=sr132?ie=UTF8&qid=1296447815&sr=8-32
You can get the VGA cable at most electronics stores. You might have to pay more money than you would with Amazon.com, but not necessarily. All you have to do is ask a salesperson for a VGA cable for a monitor & they should know what you need.
Let me know if you have more questions!

  • Arranging External Monitor on iBook G4 Running 10.4.11?

I have an iBook G4 running 10.4.11. I hooked up an external monitor and it came on no problem. However, I can only get it to mirror the laptop monitor. How do I get it so that it I can "Arrange" it? Is it not possible with this computer?
It has an ATI Mobility Radeon 9550...
    Thanks,
    R~

The iBooks only have the ability to mirror the internal display to an external display.

  • Replacement Keyboard for iBook G4

The "a" and "n" keys on my wife's iBook G4 have worn off. Where can I get a replacement key board?
    Thanks

You should be able to get a keyboard from one of these sources:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/
It may even be possible to get one directly from Apple.
However, it might be more cost effective to just replace the keycaps that are worn or to apply a peel and stick decal. In addition to the above sources, you might look for a local Apple authorized repair service. If they have a parts machine or two, you might be able to get the keycaps for very little money.
    Good luck!
