Replacing Motherboard on HP Desktop PC

Considering there are too many issues with the Pegatron IPISB-CU (Carmel2) motherboard on a HP PC that is 4 years old such as my blu-ray drive and dvd drive not working both at once, video card fan died and not going to spend countless of hours trying to find the same replacement for a video card that won't play new games. Also newer cards have new UEFI bios that aren't compatible with the Pegatron board I have and most companies won't do custom BIOS to make the card work with the motherboard. I have thought about replacing the motherboard and try to push it another 2 years. However I have a few questions about this process.
First of all, WILL the Intel Intel Core i5 2400 currently on the HP PC will work with another different board or is it LOCKED to the current motherboard configuration and won't work with any motherboard replacement? How about the memory sticks? I know Intel makes their products to be compatible with their own products and upgrading/replacing with other non approved HP parts won't work with their products.
How will my Windows 7 installation will be affected by the motherboar replacement? Will I have to do custom/clean install of Windows 7 or will I still be able to use the Recovery Suite in the PC for re-installing Windows 7?
I do not plan to upgrade the PSU on the PC because I am shopping for a low power video card (can't afford it.) And I also know that if I upgrade the motherboard I know that I will loose the Wireless/Bluetooth card and the card reader because it has a secondary power intake that I haven't see in any other motherboard configuration.
Or just scrap the system and start from scratch. I just can't believe my luck 900$ down the drain in less than 4 years.
This question was solved.

First, replacing the motherboard that will accept the components is not that difficult, just need to do some searching.  The Windows install will not like the new motherboard, so expect to purchase a new retail copy of your choice.
If you do not plan on a high power video card, then possibly the present PSU will be OK.
I suspect the new motherboard that will accept the present CPU will also accept the memory, as they are usually of the same technology.
The BluRay drive and the DVD, if working, will probably transfer also.  You will/could probably still use the same case and the card reader by keeping the case.  Unkown about the bluetooth card, but typically they use a commonly found PCI slot

  • Replacing old iTunes library on desktop with newer one from Laptop?

I have two libraries. My original's on a desktop that was linked to an iPhone 3s. When I got a 4s, I setup a new one on a laptop because my desktop was not available for several months.  So, I setup new library with 4s and have it configured the way I want it.  Is there a way to replace the old library on desktop with the one from the laptop?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find my exact problem.

Move the entire library to the desktop, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it to that library. If the library contains rented movies, they won't play on the desktop.

  • Graphics/Video Card [REPLACEMENT / UPGRADE] on HP Pavilion Desktop - Help

    I have the following:
    HP Pavilion Elite m9152p Desktop
Upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (upgraded 11-2009)
The video card seems to have gone out and I have tried the following:
    Reinstalling Operating system
Uninstalled & Reinstalled & Rollback drivers
Prior to the above attempts, no changes had been made to software or hardware only leading to the same result: The video seems to be fine and then it freezes and crashes and ultimately has to have a hard-restart at which point, the computer loads the onboard video/graphics.
I need to purchase a replacement video/graphics card, but I am unsure what specs I need to be aware of or what my computer can handle as far as a replacement and maybe a possible upgrade (not necessary) - any help in this regard would be most appreciated.
    Thanks!

I think it is a good choice.
The reviews seem positive for the most part including that the fan appears to be quiet.
I don't know if your previous card had HDMI.
When you install your new video card, it may disable your onboard audio due to the HDMI audio chip on the video card.
If you do lose your onboard audio, after you install the video drivers, reboot the machine, go into the BIOS, find the onboard audio setting. It may be set to Auto or Disabled. Change the setting to Enabled. Save the setting where you made the change and again when you exit the BIOS.
Upon reboot you will have your onboard audio back.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.

  • Why can't I replace missing fonts with my desktop fonts?

I just updated to CC 2014 which implemented the new Typekit features. Now "Find Font" is "Resolve missing fonts..." which only allows missing fonts to be replaced with Typekit fonts or other fonts already found in the document.
Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous? I have a document with the 'Avenir Next Pro' font missing, but have no way to change all instances to the "Avenir Next" font that I have installed on my computer.
The only thing that seems to work, is to select each instance of the missing font and then change the font in the character menu. Or to change one text layer and then use "Resolve missing fonts..." to select the font that has now become an option that
it exists in the document. Both processes work, but they're heavy handed and leave a lot of room for human error. Plus they're frickin' annoying!
    What gives, Adobe?
    - a confused and grumpy, lazy designer.

No you're not the only one who finds this ridiculous. Font replacement in other Adobe apps works absolutely fine, so why is the Photoshop team intent on making this into a difficult useless feature?

  • Dv9000 Adapter plug glows but laptop won't turn on - after I replaced motherboard

So I tried installing a replacement motherboard myself on my dv9700. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Anyhoo, I got the old one out after much stress and got the new one hooked up to the power and connected all the cables and tried to get a BIOS boot. The lights, fan, and optical drive all came on for a second, then shut off, then came back on but no BIOS, so I manually shut it off after a half minute or so. Then I thought getting the OS drive connected might do the trick. No such luck - in fact now the computer won't power. I tried putting the old motherboard back - same luck. My IT friend came over and noted (and I know this sounds idiotic on my part) that I hadn't swapped the CPU and the heat sink onto the new motherboard. We moved them onto the new motherboard but still no joy. The adapter glows at the connection but obviously the power is not flowing to the rest of the laptop. I know I'm a bit hardheaded to try to attempt this myself but what's done is done. I'm wondering if any of you kind non-flaming souls could tell me what the problem might be. My IT buddy thinks that there might be a short somewhere but that he downplayed my worst fears that I fried the new motherboard since the computer was only on for seconds at a time.
Please help if you can with any ideas of what the cause might be - I'm probably taking it to another repair shop in a day or two but I'd like to be armed with some ideas. Thanks!

No flames but it is not looking good. I have done dv6000 and dv9000 motherboards and I rank them as about the hardest laptop repairs I have done. Not for the newbie. Trying to power on a board with no CPU and fan in place should not have fried it in and of itself but the fact that you did that makes me question the entire technique you used. One screw in the wrong place or one touch at the wrong time CAN fry it.

  • How can I transfer all my bookmarks from my old firefox browswer bookmarks using Windows Vista onto my new Windows 7 desktop?

I just purchased Windows 7 OS and replaced Windows Vista on my desktop PC.
When I open a new firefox browser, none of my bookmarks from the older browser running under Vista is showing anymore.
Can I still transfer all my old bookmarks fromVista onto a new browswer using Windows 7 then?

Just a note about the difference between these two things:
    * "export" and "import" use an ancient HTML document format that all browsers can understand. When you import bookmarks, Firefox may place them into an Imported Bookmarks folder, or into Unsorted Bookmarks. This does not displace existing bookmarks, and Firefox does not automatically remove duplicates.
    * "backup" and "restore" use a more comprehensive JSON data file, which contains extra information about your bookmarks (such as tags) not contained in the traditional export file. HOWEVER, a restore completely replaces all existing bookmarks, so the restore feature cannot be used to merge in a set of additional bookmarks.
    Related support articles:
    * [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
    * [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]]
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
Some users find the disk-based Windows Favorites folder a convenient way to organize bookmarks. If you do, too, and you do not need to preserve tags on your bookmarks, you could export each profile's bookmarks to HTML and import them all into IE11. Organize them in the Windows Favorites folder, then export from IE11 to HTML and import that file into each Firefox profile. See: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/add-view-organize-favorites].

  • Is it worth replacing the MacBook Pro with an iPad Air?

I've been sat in the realms of contemplation for some time now. Since the release of the iPad Air it looks as though it is now possibly a viable option for me to replace my aging MacBook Pro. I essentially only use my laptop for photographs and music. My photo collection is about 11GB in size when they are in their original format outside of iPhoto. (iPhoto bloats it up to 33GB). My music collection is miniscule and we're talking only about 2GB in size, as it's only stuff I have purchased from the iTunes Store, so I know I can listen to this whenever I want to by re-downloading specific albums or tracks with "Purchases in the Cloud." At the moment I think the Macbook Pro is more than I actually need for what I use it for. Things like document creation etc. isn't an issue for me as I've used pages previously on my laptop and my documents are iCloud synced.
For me, I'd be looking at 64GB or 128GB capacity, as I use a Sony NEX-6 DSLR so the files as JPEG are large. I'm not one to keep every single photo I have taken, I'm kind of "minimalist" so out of say 400 photos I'd only keep 100 of the best ones.
I have read that some people have used services such as Dropbox for additional cloud storage, but I'm looking at using a networked hard drive that supports iOS so I can back up my photos to a physical drive at home should anything detrimental happen to the iPad (if I did get one).
I'm curious to hear if anyone has gone down the route of replacing their laptop or even desktop with a high-capacity iPad, and hear how they've got on with it. This is becoming a more frequently asked question after researching the vast spaces of the Internet, but there are no answers specific for my needs!
Message was edited by: C.Moore - Spelling & grammar corrections.

An iPad is a great device, but it's no computer replacement. It lacks the file sharing/structure that comptuers have and the ability to easily get files onto/off it without the internet.
That said, if you still have your desktop and use it for most of the computing work and basically just want a photo viewer, check your e-mail device, then it may work for you.
The networked harddrive will be the hard part. Since the iPad lacks a file manager anything you use on it must have an app so that you can access it. And that app also must be allowed to 'send' your files to another app. So that may be what you really need to research. The ability and ease of using a network drive to do the file sharing you want.

  • Deploying new portal and its effect on the old desktop

I have an application which has few .portal files which are then converted to desktop in production through admin portal.
Now i changed my source code and create a new ear file and deploy it in the prod environment.
    1) What will be the effect of the new deployment and changed codebase for the underlying .portal file on the old desktop created.
    2) Do i need to create the desktop again everytime i deploy a new update ear file?
    3) what if i dont update?
Any documentation pointing the specific exact anwers to above questions.
    Thanks

When you say changed code base do you mean you have added /removed books /pages? If so these wont be picked up by the deploy
    1) None , deployment does not affect the desktop created.
2)No , you only need to modify the desktop if you want your changes to be picked or if you want to make changes manually.
However your best bet is to use propagation to make the changes
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs102/prodOps/propTool.html
even if you create a new desktop based on a .portal which has changed , then you are prompted what you want to do, and you can decide accordingly (e.g. choosing replace affects the already created desktop)
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs102/portals/creating_staging.html#wp1014475
Its easier to test out the changes on a staging server and propagate the changes once your sure everything works. Note that so far propagation has never worked correctly all the time so backup everything (including the embedded LDAP)
    3) No Book/Page changes are picked up
Note these answers apply to portal 8.1. they may have changed in whatever version you use. read the propagation documents on edocs

  • M78 power supply replacement

    Hi,
I need to replace one of my business' desktop PCs and I'm thinking about getting a an M78 (2111C3U) model.
I read online where the power supply has a proprietary connector, so I was wondering if anyone has the part number or knows what a replacement will cost.
My reason for asking is that I had a Dell lap top once with a proprietary power supply that went bad.  It turned out to be a very common problem that even caused a few fires.  Dell would not work with us for a reasonable solution (lap top was out of warranty) so I'd like to know in advance what I'm getting into if I go with this power supply.
My bad experience with Dell was 6 PCs ago.  As result, I've been Dell "problem-free" for a while now and I've really enjoyed it.
    thanks

  • Transferring my entire music library - desktop to laptop.  HOW??

GReetings! I have my iTunes on my old desktop PC. All 875 pieces of music.
I Just got a new laptop which will replace that 8-year old desktop. NOW, how
do I migrate my entire old music library to iTunes on the new
laptop?? I tried copying the playlists one at a time. It seemes to work, but
when I tried to play some pieces, there's a '!' by every selection that says
"the original can't be found". WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG? Hope someone
can help. The last thing i want do do is get out 150+ CDs and load them into
my laptop!!! I shouldn't have to do that!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Replacing one folder icon by a larger icon. How?

I have recently downloaded a set of nice folder icons from the Apple site, like one set in particular and have replaced a number of my folders with it. But now I want one of the larger sizes of this set to replace a folder on my desktop and can't figure out how to do that. The larger icon opens in preview, but when I open the Info pane (cmd-i) it is represented as a png, so I can't get to it (opening the png and working from there doesn't work either). The only size that will show up as an actual folder icon in the Info pane is the default size. So, anyone here knows how to do this? I'd be grateful for any help.
    Levina

Afraid people probably don't quite understand what you mean. The largest size icons will display is 128x128 pixels. You set the icon display size for a folder or the Desktop, by going to View-Show View Options and dragging the slider. You can't have one folder display at a larger size than the others, they will all be the same.
You can use a png as an icon by opening it in Preview, then go to the Edit menu and select Copy. You then use the GetInfo for the folder you want to have the icon, select it at the top of the GetInfo pane, and select paste. The Finder will convert the original png to a 128x128 icon.

  • Desktop icon acquisition

There's a familiar technique for setting ("replacing") the icon of a desktop folder or file: "Get info" for the file whose icon you want to use, click on it until it's outlined in blue, and copy the icon onto the clipboard. Then "Get info" for the file where you want to use the copied icon, click on it's current icon until that is outlined in blue, and paste the copied icon there.
In most instances, I find that the technique works. However, at times I find it impossible to paste to the receiving file -- the failure seems to occur most frequently when the icon being pasted over is an applet icon.
I can usually eventually make it work by replacing the receiving file, sometimes repeatedly.
    Any idea what's happening here?
    Thank you

    Woof!
Fortunately, old dogs don't necessarily need or want to understand what's going on; nevertheless, an old dog can still benefit from serendipity.
When one goes for "Package Contents" of an applet, the first window usually contains only a "Contents" folder. So far, I've found that if that's the case (only a Contents folder), then the traditional copy and paste method works. But if there is also a file "icon" (it seems usually to be empty), then the copy and paste method doesn't work -- however, deleting that file will make it work. (This is entirely apart from the .icns file in the Resources folder.)
I've briefly tried to figure out why some bundles have this file and some don't, but I didn't reach any conclusion.
So the approach that seems to be appropriate is this:
    • To get the icon that you want to use, "Get info" of a file that has that icon; click on its
icon (the desired icon) until it's outlined in blue and then copy it to the clipboard.
    • Get "Show Package Contents" for the file whose icon you want to change. If the first window that opens contains a file named "icon" in addition to a Contents folder, delete that file. Close the window that now contains only a Contents folder.
    • Now "Get Info" for the file whose icon you want to change; click on its icon (the one you want to change) until it's outlined in blue and then paste what's on the clipboard to it.
Woof, woof: that should do it! (If you find instances where this doesn't work, please post relevant information.)

2 isssues regarding my Palm Tungsten E2:
    1) When I open the Palm desktop on my PC and click contacts, I get a message: "Palm desktop has encountered a problem and must close".
My PC operating system is Windows XP Home edition.
I have encountered the same program on my laptop, also a Windows XP Home op system.
I fear losing my extensive contact data.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CD software - no luck.
I have also downloaded the desktop software from the Palm website, again no luck

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Ok..so here is what you need to do.
    1. Locate your user folder, it is in program files/palm/username
    2. Inside the folder look for datebook. Go into that folder and grab the datebook.dat file move it to the root username folder
    3. Go into your address book. Look for the address.dat file and move it to the root username folder
    4. Once you have moved the files out of there. Relaunch palm desktop.
    5. It should open without error if it does go to tools/options
    6. Change the startup application to memos
    7. Go back to your user folder and move the the datebook.dat and address.dat files back into their respective folders.
    8. You should get a prompt to replace the existing file. Select yes to replace
    9. Relaunch palm desktop
    10. Follow directions to check for corrupted records.
