Replacing My Macbook Pro

After having my Macbook pro for about, a year. It started making these obnoxious fan whirring noises. Many people already know about this problem, but I've gotten it replaced three times. The problem just keeps coming back.
I primarily use it for gaming (World of Warcraft), and was wondering what the best replacement mac would be. I have a kind of low budget to spend here, but I just need a cpu that doesn't make irritating noises that don't even allow me to hear or talk to people. Not to mention the headaches.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I'd consider an iMac 20" model with an iLugger case if you need portability. The only thing you can't get out of that is operating on battery power. It has the same amount of processing power and is less noisy. The MacBook Pro usually isn't that noisy, but some people just happen to be more sensitive to fan noises than others.

Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal???
I've had my Macbook for about 11 months now and i use it every day; its gone though about 420 cycles of charging and using the power, and i noticed the battrey preformance has decreased (as expected). The problem isn't sevear yet but it would comfort me knowing that i could replace the battery in the near future
Please contact me or answer the question if you know anything about this!

No only if they think under warranty/AppleCare, but your likely able to pay for a new battery if they have them, which they might not yet since it's such a new machine still.
BTW, I have a Early 2011 17" MBP, 27 months old, charges to 97% and has only 14 cycles.

    likely display inverter board.
did you get your inverter board replaced already?
    Did you have a question?
If the diagnostic in shop indicates same, thats 1000X better than anyone can do online in "diagnosis" (not really genuine diagnosis of course)

  • Will apple replace my macbook pro?

    Hi
I have a problem with the trackpad on my macbook pro 13''. not all the time but sometimes it feels loose and when you click down it it it clicks twice instead of once. i took it to the apple store and they altered the trackpads clicking space beneath so it clicks down further but this has not helped so i was wondering if apple will replace my macbook pro. however there are a couple of small scratches on the shell of the macbook pro which obviously have no effect on the working order of the trackpad but will apple refuse to replace my macbook with this cosmetic damage? also i would also like to know if anyone else has had the same problem with a loose trackpad that doesn't click correctly. thank you

    robc10,
if your MacBook Pro is no longer in its warranty period, then they will not replace it. If it is still in its warranty period, refer to its warranty in your region to see whether replacement would be an available option for you.

  • Lost iPhoto when Apple replaced damaged MacBook Pro hard drive

My son and daughter-in-law recently had to replace their MacBook Pro hard drive. Apple did the replacement, but they got it back without iPhoto. Isn't that standard software when you purchase a MacBook Pro? Shouldn't it be part of the replacement, too?

If your computer shipped with Lion, follow the directions here to redownload the iLife apps:
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
If you erase install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion installed, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

  • How much to replace broken macbook pro screen??

how much to replace broken macbook pro screen??

    Few thoughts:
There is a minuscule possibility that you can successfully convince the Genius that the damage was not due to abuse or mishandling. And if it is still under warranty, a new free screen will be yours. Don't get your hopes up too high, though...
If a Retina, the cost will be so high that maybe selling it for parts and getting a new one might be a better idea.
Same may apply if it is very old. Not cause the screen costs arm+leg, but because you will be sinking lots of cash onto a sinking ship.
If handy with tools, can explore PowerBookMedic.com or IFixIt.com for parts prices and howto.

  • Replacing SSD MacBook Pro mid 2014

    Hi all.
I Would like to buy a mid 2014 MacBook pro retina 13" but there is only 128Gb SSD on it. I read  about welded ssd. Is it true?
can I replace this SSD after buying? Do you which kind of SSD do I have to buy?
    thank you.

They may be soldered to the motherboard, if that's what you mean. But there are no compatible replacements. You can check regularly with OWC to see if and when replacements are made available.

  • Is it worth replacing the MacBook Pro with an iPad Air?

I've been sat in the realms of contemplation for some time now. Since the release of the iPad Air it looks as though it is now possibly a viable option for me to replace my aging MacBook Pro. I essentially only use my laptop for photographs and music. My photo collection is about 11GB in size when they are in their original format outside of iPhoto. (iPhoto bloats it up to 33GB). My music collection is miniscule and we're talking only about 2GB in size, as it's only stuff I have purchased from the iTunes Store, so I know I can listen to this whenever I want to by re-downloading specific albums or tracks with "Purchases in the Cloud." At the moment I think the Macbook Pro is more than I actually need for what I use it for. Things like document creation etc. isn't an issue for me as I've used pages previously on my laptop and my documents are iCloud synced.
For me, I'd be looking at 64GB or 128GB capacity, as I use a Sony NEX-6 DSLR so the files as JPEG are large. I'm not one to keep every single photo I have taken, I'm kind of "minimalist" so out of say 400 photos I'd only keep 100 of the best ones.
I have read that some people have used services such as Dropbox for additional cloud storage, but I'm looking at using a networked hard drive that supports iOS so I can back up my photos to a physical drive at home should anything detrimental happen to the iPad (if I did get one).
I'm curious to hear if anyone has gone down the route of replacing their laptop or even desktop with a high-capacity iPad, and hear how they've got on with it. This is becoming a more frequently asked question after researching the vast spaces of the Internet, but there are no answers specific for my needs!

An iPad is a great device, but it's no computer replacement. It lacks the file sharing/structure that comptuers have and the ability to easily get files onto/off it without the internet.
That said, if you still have your desktop and use it for most of the computing work and basically just want a photo viewer, check your e-mail device, then it may work for you.
The networked harddrive will be the hard part. Since the iPad lacks a file manager anything you use on it must have an app so that you can access it. And that app also must be allowed to 'send' your files to another app. So that may be what you really need to research. The ability and ease of using a network drive to do the file sharing you want.

  • Do I need to replace my Macbook Pro?

I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro that has started to give me lots of issues. My question is should I try to find a way to fix these problems, or do I simply need a new laptop? I am a college student and really use my laptop for just basic things--assignments and watching Netflix
    Memory:  2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Processor:  2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    1. Trackpad- I've had the trackpad replaced twice, the first time it cracked, and the second time (just 2 months ago) it stopped working sporadically. Now it was occasionally stop working, but is fine the majority of the time.
    2. Fan- The fan gets so extremely loud I avoid taking my laptop to class. It will start on full blast at random times--even if I'm doing something that should not require a bunch of effort from my laptop like internet browsing or typing a paper. I know some noise is normal, but it seems really excessive to me.
    3. Display- Recently I've had issues with the display. They usually go away if I just restart, but it's happening more and more frequently. It's like parts of my screen swap places, and my shortcut/app things get replaced with random strings of letters. I really wish I could explain it better!
As a college student, I NEED my laptop to be reliable so I have to get this figured out in the next few days. Any insight from y'all would really help. Can I fix these issues or do I need to just suck it up and buy a new one? Thanks!

With the multiple problems, I would probably replace a 5 year old computer. However, I do not like to spend other people's money....up to you really.

  • What is the cost to replace a MacBook Pro trackpad?

I have an early 2011 15" MacBook Pro. Recently, my trackpad suddenly stopped working one night. The pointer would move around the screen without me touching the computer, and the click would only respond about half the time. So, in an attempt to save money, I bought a replacement trackpad and googled how to replace it. I successfully replaced the trackpad, only to have the cheap replacement crack in the top right corner. On top of that, it still doesn't work. It's no longer moving on its own, but now it's just extremely hard to navigate around the screen. However, I'm assuming this may have something to do with the cracked glass.
My question is - how much is it for Apple to replace the trackpad? I was trying to save money, but I would rather pay a little extra to have the replacement done right. I'm no longer in warranty, and unfortunately, Apple support wants to charge me $19 to ask this question.
    Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and they will examine the MBP and give you a quote.  You mat accept or reject it.

  • Shouldn't Apple recall and provide FREE replacement for MacBook Pro screens with ghosting and dead pixel issues?

Read the forum posts, Google the issue, watch the YouTube videos on the problems; they are everywhere. I purchased a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and the screen is riddled with dead pixels, white ghosting throughout, and image retention issues, all from a company that promotes the quality of the product they sell. There's no way this issue facing so many consumers shouldn't result in Apple replacing these screens for FREE.
I purchased the high-end machine for photo and video editing. Photo editing is particularly difficult when I can't tell if I have dust, dirt or colour shifts in my images or if it's just the screen overlaying these issues. I've never had so many issues with any screen I've purchased, from my Panasonic Plasma TV to my cheap ACER laptop. Please Apple, quit ignoring this issue.

  • Replace display MacBook Pro

I have a 6 month old  MacBook Pro. I foolishly dropped something on it, while it was closed. Now my display is totally broken. I understand something like this isnt covered under warranty, so I need to get it replaced at the Apple store where I live(Tokyo). My question is how much is it typically to have such a thing replaced?
    Thanks in advance.

Best to ask apple about that. I've heard 400 american or about 30704.0437 but that was with an older model computer so I don't know.
if you have a high res display with anti glare, that's definitely extra. Best to ask the apple specialist at your store. You have no oblication to fix it there and then.

  • Extend or replace battery MacBook Pro Retina

    Dear All,
I own a MacBook Pro Retina 13' 2.4Ghz/4GB (2013) but the battery life has been terrible in the last couple of months. I probably get around 3-4 hours doing simple things like Safari on 30/40% screen brightness. The drop in battery life has been significant. MacBook is 1.2 years old and 275 cycles. I really need more than 3-4 hours.
    Two questions:
    1. What can I do to extend the battery life. I aim around 5 hours of usage.
    2. Could I replace the battery of my MacBook?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well like Kappy says.
Also this is a known issue:
    http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/11/10/os-x-yosemite-problems-fixes/
"Soon after the release we heard complaints about OS X Yosemite battery life problems. The battery life drains much faster than normal for some users. For many, this is likely due to spotlight indexing after the update and using the battery faster. Typically this will resolve itself after a day or two."

  • Screen Replaced On Macbook Pro Now No Boot

I had 2 separate incidents with replacing the lcd on macbook pro's. After replacing the lcd it boots up fine the first time then after a reset or shut down i get the status bar loading with spinning wheel. i know a re-install will fix it and I've tried disk repair with no luck im just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with replacing the LCD or has any advice on what could be causing this. Thank you

Yes.... But most of the time, users take their MacBooks for repairs in the Apple repair centres or Apple stores for a flat depot rate (Out of warranty or self damaged machines). So, it was just my own thought.......
And its a bit unlikely that the OP has replaced the LCD on his own....
However, the OP has not yet disclosed about the people involved in the LCD repair. So the thoughts of either you or me are just “Hypothetical”....

  • Battery replacement on MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013?

Could you replace your batteries in a 13in MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 yourself?
If not, could Apple replace them at a fee or could I go to a third party shop?
Also, how long or how much cycles does a battery last?
I was planning to buy a macbook and was taking that into consideration.
