Replacing Oracle Toplink with TopLink Essentials

Is it possible to force OC4J to use TopLink Essentials by default
instead of Oracle TopLink?

Hi
Replace your toplink jars in your server with the new
jars. it should pick up automatically
Regards,
RaghavendraHi,
I am trying to use the latest version of Toplink Essentials with the embedded OC4J in JDeveloper 10.1.3.
Can you please be more specific?
Which JAR files must be replaced?
Thanks in advance,

    REPLACING ORACLE LOGO WITH MY LOGO
    hi i tried to replace the oracle logo with my custom logo......but still tht logo is not appearinmg........i followed the steps mentioned in the following note in metalink......can u tell me wht went wrong.i have also attached my config settings in formsweb.cfg.
    You can either replace the Oracle logo with your custom logo, or just
    delete the Oracle logo. Both of these options are described below.
    Replacing the Oracle Logo with a Custom Logo
    ============================================
    Forms 6i(6.0.8.8 or above), has a new look when using the Oracle
    lookAndFeel parameter. An Oracle logo appears in the menu when you run
    the form on web. The logo is visible, even if you use a default menu
    or custom menu.
    Follow this procedure to that logo with your custom logo:
    1) Backup the following files:
    oracle_home/forms60/java/f60all.jar
    oracle_home/forms60/java/forms/icons/oracle_logo.gif
    2) Create your custom logo in gif format and rename it to oracle_logo.gif
    3) Copy your gif to the oracle_home/forms60/java/forms/icons directory.
    4) Open the f60all.jar in WinZip.
    5) Find a file called oracle_logo.gif in the archive and delete it.
    6) Create the following directory structure:
    c:\oracle\forms\icons
    7) Copy your custom logo(renamed to oracle_logo.gif) to:
    c:\oracle\forms\icons.
    8) In WinZip, choose Add a file, then select the oracle_logo.gif from:
    c:\oracle\forms\icons
    9) Add the file to the f60all.jar archive and close the jar file.
    10) Stop and restart your forms server.
    11) Clear the cache from your browsers.
    Now when you run the form on the web, your custom logo will appear in
    place of the Default Oracle logo.
    Removing the Oracle Logo from the Menu
    ======================================
    Use one of the following methods to remove the Oracle logo from the
    menu:
    -- If you do not need to use the "Oracle" lookAndFeel, use the
    "generic" lookAndFeel. When you use the generic look and feel, you
    do not see the Oracle logo in the menu. However, you do see the
    canvas in the windows default gray color. Also, the menu toolbar
    icons are gray.
    -- If you want to retain the Oracle look and feel but remove the
    Oracle logo only, add the following parameter in your html file,
    or add it in your URL:
    Logo="no"
    For example, in Netscape:
    lookAndFeel="Oracle"
    Logo="no"
    For example, in IE:
    <PARAM NAME="lookAndFeel" VALUE="Oracle">
    <PARAM NAME="Logo" VALUE="no">
    This suppresses the Oracle logo at runtime on the web.
    Solution Explanation
    ====================
    With the oracle lookAndFeel parameter, the Oracle logo is always
    inserted in the menu. You must remove the logo or add another logo
    with the same name if you want to replace the Oracle logo.

    hey,
    u can try making your own .jar with your icons inside and put it on the3 forms60/java directory.
    Include also the following line in cfg file:
    archive_jini = f90all_jinit.jar, [youriconsarchive].jar
    and maybe you should change imagebase to 'codebase' instead of documentbase.
    I have it like this and works ok. I can use every icon in my jar as logo or anything else..
    hope this helps

  • Replacing Oracle DW with BW

    Hello guys,
    I need your expert advice on replacing Oracle data warehouse with BW.We have three cubes maintained in Oracle data warehouse and we are planning to implement BW warehouse and replcace Oracle.Could you please let me know from where should i start?.The Oracle is sourced from a non/R3 and BW should be sourced from R/3 as the client is implementing SAP.Should we bring the data from external source to R/3 before doing any thing?.Please guide me.Thank you.
    Raj.

    Hi Raj,
    Welcome to SDN!
    I don't think you have to bring all data into R/3 first.
    You need to create a source system and setup DB COnnect between Oracle and BW:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/58/54f9c1562d104c9465dabd816f3f24/content.htm
    choose relevant tables, generate datasources on them, replicate these DSs in BW, create the appropriate infoobjects and data targets, assign DS to infosource, create transfer rules, create update rules for data targets, create infopackages, and finally, load data.
    It's a rather long way to go.
    Best regards,
    Eugene

    create your own menu in forms, save it as lety say MYMENU.mmb, generate it and then assign MYMENU in the menu-property of your form-module (the mmx-file of the menu must be in your forms-path)

  • Replacing Oracle Names with OID?

    Hi All
    We have our systems using Oracle Names for db connections. these are on 9.2.0.4 and we plan to move to 10g and we want to move from oracle names to OID
    couple of queries which we have
    Is Oracle Names supported for Oracle 10g databases and on Solaris 10 platforms? if not then is OID the product to replace Oracle Names or is it some other product?
    Does it have a repository database to retain data or is it flat file based?
    Does this software replacement version support oracle 8i, 9i, 10g and 11g databases?
    please let us know if possible
    thanx
    kb

    Names has been deprecated so moving away from it is the correct course of action.
    To find out about OID, which is not "database" I would suggest you either check the product docs or contact your Oracle sales rep. Invite that lucky person to bring out a Sales Engineer and give you a demo and answer your questions: They will.

  • Replacing Oracle OFA with Enterprise Planning and Budget or Hyperion

    I'm looking at replacing OFA with EPB. Does this option still exist or has Oracle
    phased it out?

    Hi,
    Oracle Hyperion Planning is the way forward and is the budgeting and planning tool of choice for Oracle.
    So if you are going to make an investment I would go for Hyperion Planning.
    Cheers

  • Replacing Oracle Interconnect

    Hi All
         First a bit of background ...
         We have had a successful integration of our E-Business 11.5.10 system to an external system using Oracle Interconnect and a soap adaptor.
         Oracle E-Business <-> Oracle Interconnect <-> Soap Adaptor <-> External System.
         We have now upgraded to E-Business R12.1.3 and have decided to move away from Oracle Interconnect as it is no longer supported.
         Looking through the available documentation it would appear that SOA/BPEL is the all singing, all dancing solution to system integrations, but rather than start at the top, if possible I would like to make the minimum amount of changes.
         So my questions are ......
         1) Is it possible just to replace Oracle Interconnect with Oracle Service Bus
         Oracle E-Business <-> Oracle Service Bus <-> Soap Adaptor <-> External System.
         2) Do we need Oracle Service Bus or can we just use SOA Integration Options for Oracle E-Business Suite
         SOA Integration Options for Oracle E-Business Suite <-> Soap Adaptor <-> External System.
         We have some funding available for training but I want to make sure that which ever course we chose SOA/BPEL/Oracle Service Bus will contain the concepts we require to do the interface.
         So any advice(links to documentation) would be gratefully received.
    Regards
    Dave

  • Strange classloader experience with toplink-essentials on Oc4j-10.1.3.3.0

    Hi,
    I am teaching classes at the Eotvos University/Budapest on a topic where OC4J has been used for 2 years. Students use jdeveloper (regularly updated) to create webapps with EJB3.0+toplink backends. They test their projects first with the JDeveloper embedded OC4J, but after that they deploy it on a central server running standalone OC4J.
    Students make quite an intensive and versatile use of the OC4J server, a noteworthy stress-test you may find interesting! The server is a Ubuntu Linux with JDK_1.5.0_14.
    1. The first known issue is that after about 10 projects are deployed (small class projects 3-4 EJBs, 3-4 JSP-s each), oc4j regularl goes into a "runaway" mode, i.e. the CPU utilization of the JVM process goes up to 99-100%. Static web content is still available, but all applications stop responding. I can state pretty safely that the applications deployed are fairly harmless and it is not even necessary to run them to make this happen. I.e. after 10-15 apps are depoyed it is enough to start the admin-client.jar or the admin console to experience this problem. (The applications have no problem individually: last year after these issues occurred, we installed them individually for grading and nothing like this happened).
    Let me point out that SO FAR this happened with Oc4j-10.1.3.1 and Oc4j-10.1.3.2 only, and this was the main reason we swithed to Oc4j-10.1.3.3.0
    2. Another issue that exists both with the earlier versions and 10.1.3.3.0 is that applications need to include the toplink-essentials.jar explicitely if they use EJB3.0 entities. It appears to me that this should not be neessary as there are default definitions for that in config/server.xml (a shared-library definition for toplink-essentials), and in config/system-application.xml (a corresponding import-shared-library tag), but still their applications cannot be deployed because of the follwing error:
    Deploy error: Deploy error: Operation failed with error:
    Hiányzó osztály: oracle.toplink.essentials.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerFactoryProvider
    FĂĽggĹ' osztály: com.evermind.server.ejb.persistence.PersistenceUnitManagerImpl
    BetöltĹ': oc4j:10.1.3
    Kódforrás: /opt/oc4j_101330/j2ee/home/lib/oc4j-internal.jar
    (On our machines, JDK displays some errors in Hungarian: HiányzĂł osztály=Missing class; FĂĽggĹ' osztály=Dependent class; BetöltĹ'=Loader; KĂłdforrás=Code source.)
    To fix this issue, we used a workaround, i.e. their orion-application.xml is regularly extended with something like:
    <library path="/opt/oc4j/toplink/jlib/toplink-essentials.jar"/>
    And this solved the problem. Can you explain this?
    3. Now, with 10.1.3.3.0 this did not help much either. Although the toplink-essentials.jar was found, another nasty exception happened in the server still during deployment:
    Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: oracle.toplink.essentials.platform.server.oc4j.Oc4jPlatform.<init>(oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.sessions.DatabaseSessionImpl)
    at java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Class.java:2678)
    at java.lang.Class.getConstructor(Class.java:1629)
    at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.ejb.cmp3.EntityManagerSetupImpl.updateServerPlatform(EntityManagerSetupImpl.java:309)
    Apparently a class in toplink-essentials.jar (version 2, build 41, i.e. the one that comes with oc4j) cannot properly invoke a the constructor of another class IN THE SAME JAR.
    I checked everything, even unzipped and checked the class signatures, and also made sure that there is no other toplink-essentials.jar in the classpath. Still the error remained.
    FInally, I tried to add the above libary tag to $OC4J_HOME/config/apllication.xml instead of the applications local orion-application.xml, and - voila!!! - it WORKS now!
    Can you explain all this to me? From the documentation the location of the <library> tag in the descriptor files should not amke any difference, but still it seems to do.
    Regards: Arpad Bakay

    Seems to be a bug. That was the response from Oracle support (Metalink)
    Response:
    Your issue seems to be related to bug 5594702 - Abstract: EJB30 ENTITY BEAN WITH @ID AND @COLUMN ANNOTATION FAILS TO DEPLOY ON AIX.
    There is an issue with the IBM JDK/JRE 1.5's processing of annotations.
    Links:
    http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=37764
    http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/dw_thread.jsp?forum=367&thread=112543&cat=10
    When processing annotations it returns boolean values as false.
    Work-around:
    Fully specify the @Column annotation's boolean values. If insertable and updatable are set to false (which will happen due to this bug) then TopLink sets the PK
    mapping to read-only and the exception seen is expected.
    Note: nullable attribute of the @Colmun is not used in the EJB3/JPA preview of 10.1.3.0 If the customer MUST override the default column name then they should use:
    @Column(name="column-name", insertable=true, updatable=true)
    If they do not wish to override the default column name then simply do not use an @Column annotation.
    It can be deleted or commented out in the JDev generated code.
    There are two reported annotation processing issues with the AIX JVM. One was fixed in SR1 and the other is fixed
    in SR3 (due out Oc 11 - today). Upgrading to these more recent JVM releases may also address this issue.
    RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS:
    1. Upgrade the IBM AIX JVM to SR3.
    OR
    2. Fix all generated @Column annotations as described above

    1) Remove the "private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;" from all pojos.
    2) There should not be white space in persistence.xml inside <class> tag.
    3) Change the JTA datasource from NON-JTA datasoucre.
    I had changed all things as per the above mentioned points.
    But still i am getting the same error.
    Please verify the problem and suggest me a possible solution.
    Please help me.. Please..

    Hai jsutherl, Thank you for reply..
    Right now cannot upgrade my project from toplink to eclipselink.
    Because my project was an huge application. where i am using nearly 250 actionclasses and dao.
    I already tried to migrate, but the package structures are completely different. so, i am unable to figure out this packages path.
    So, as per your suggestion, i had renamed my orm.xml to mapping.xml file.
    But when i am running the application then the below error was throwing....
    19:03:30,149 INFO [STDOUT] [TopLink Warning]: 2013.05.01 07:03:30.119--java.lang.NullPointerException: null was thrown on attempt of PersistenceLoadProcessor to load class env.model.masters.IptNotifications. The class is ignored.[here IptNotifications is a database pojo refrence class where the db table name is IPT_NOTIFICATIONS]
    The above same kind of error was throwing to all my pojos [i.e. Database table refrence classes]
    Please help me.
    I have to migrate my project to jboss.
    All my work are getting stopped due to this issues.
    Please help me..

  • Using Clob with TopLink 9.0.4.5 and Oracle 10g RAC

    I am trying to store an XML file in a Clob type field of a DB table using TopLink 9.0.4.5 and Oracle 10g RAC and need some guidance about how to do it. I got some directions to start it with the Tip "How-To: Map Large Objects (LOBs) to Oracle Databases with OracleAS TopLink" but still need some more helps.
    When using the Oracle JDBC OCI driver, the tip gives the code block for a Clob field:
    DirectToField scriptMapping = new DirectToField();
    scriptMapping.setAttributeName("script");
    scriptMapping.setFieldName("IMAGE.SCRIPT");
    descriptor.addMapping(scriptMapping);
    As I understand, TopLink creates instances of the Descriptor class at run time for each of the descriptor files and stores them in a database session, where is the proper place (in SessionEvent of TopLinkSessionEventHandler?) for me to get a reference to such an instance of my Descriptor class in Java code so that I can add the above mentioned additional Mapping? Are the above String values of "script" and "IMAGE.SCRIPT" predefined in TopLink API? Can I accomplish the same thing just using the TopLink Workbench tool instead? If yes, please advise the detailed steps to do so.
    The tip also states to call the following code in case of using Clob:
    DatabaseLogin login = session.getLogin();
    login.useStringBinding();
    Should the above 2 lines of code be called after the following lines of code?
    SessionManager sessionManager = SessionManager.getManager();
    Server serverSession = (Server)sessionManager.getSession("MY_SESSION_NAME");
    Besides the above extra coding for the Session and Descriptor Mapping, is there any special handling in between Data model and DB table mapping? Can I map a Java String type to a DB Clob field using the Direct-to-field mapping?
    Appreciate any help.

    Never mind ....... I had already figured it out .....

    hello,
    i m using msync for synchronization on Pocket PC 2003 with eVB. I dont know about msyncCom.
    i have mentioned a part of my code where the problem is found.
    rsmastbl.Open tblnm, conn, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic
    MsgBox tblnm & " opened"
    'get the key fields to be compared in the query to get required record
    MsgBox rsmastbl.Fields(1).name
    keyfldnm1 = rsmastbl.Fields(1).name
    MsgBox "keyfldnm got value = " & keyfldnm1
    rsmastbl.Close
    MsgBox "keyfldnm got value = " & keyfldnm1
    Now here the value of keyfldnm1 before closing the record set is found to be correct.
    But the message box after closing the record set shows no value in the keyfldnm1.
    its very urgent....
    if anybody can help me
    thanx

  • Using Toplink with Oracle Spatial (missing right parenthesis error)

    Hi,
    I always get the following error when I try to create spatial query with toplink.
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis
    Any idea ? Also, there is no trace of my point in the generated sql....
    Here is the generated query:
    SELECT ID, [...]
    FROM QUEBEC_CITY
    WHERE (MDSYS.SDO_NN(GEOMETRY, JGeometry (gtype=1, dim=2, rid=8307, NULL) = 'TRUE')
    ORDER BY ID ASC
    Here is my code... :
    double[] coord = new double[]{-71.25163d, 46.8527d};
    JGeometry point = JGeometry.createPoint(coord, 2, 8307);
    SpatialOperator nearestNeighbor = SpatialOperator.nearestNeighbor(session);
    ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery(UrbanEdgeDescriptor.class);
    ExpressionBuilder eb = query.getExpressionBuilder();
    Expression geom = eb.get("geometry");
    query.setSelectionCriteria(nearestNeighbor.buildExpression(geom, point));
    query.addAscendingOrdering("id");
    List<UrbanEdgeDescriptor> results = (List)db.getSession().executeQuery(query);
    System.out.println(results!=null);

    The problem is the toString() on JGeometry. It does not print out a complete description the database can use inline. It produces:
    JGeometry (gtype=1, dim=2, rid=8307
    To get JGeometry types to work in your queries the easiest solution is to use parameter binding so the literal representation is not used.

  • How do I use toplink with Spring 2.5 and oc4j 10.1.2?

    Our existing java server environment is limited to Oc4j 10.1.2 due to being tied to Oracle Forms.
    We've added a java 6 jdk to the machine and linked it to a specific container to examine some newer java features since this version of the application server only comes with java 1.4.2.
    Does anyone have some configuration steps for getting toplink essentials and spring to work with oc4j 10.1.2? Even with oc4j 10.1.3 in jdev 10.1.3.4 I'm having problems trying to figure out what needs placed in the persistence.xml file verses what needs placed in the spring-beans.xml file.
    I'm trying to either use the J2SE option of keeping the connection information in the persistence.xml file (which doesn't work) - it tries to connect to //localhost:1521/orcl. If I try to define a datasource within Spring's xml file, I'm not sure how to tie that into the persistence.xml file. Could I use the oc4j 10.1.2 container provided datasource?
    It seems like I'm at a loss as to how to get this working. If you'd like me to post some files, I can do that later on today when I get back to work.
    The configuration that I'm trying to do is based on a modified workspace from an ibm developerworks article with websphere, mixing in the ideas from a JPA with Spring 2.0 article from Mike Keith and Rod Johnson. (That article goes pretty far in the configuration information but never provided an example to download...)
    Any help appreciated.
    Eric (hbg, pa)

    I'm still at a loss with this. Rather than worry about the older version, for now, I just want to see JPA in action. So, I've decided on just running the Spring 2.5.6 petclinic example out of the samples folder. When I try to do this, after only tweaking the web.xml to use the applicationContext-jpa.xml file, the application does not initialize properly. Here's the stack trace I get:

  • Problem using Toplink with JUnit

    Hi,
    I have a problem using Toplink with JUnit. Method under test is very simple: it use a static EntityManager object to open a transaction and persists data to db. When I invoke the method from a test method, it gives me the exception:
    java.lang.AssertionError

    Where is the problem???
    Regards,
    Valerio

    EntityFacade class is very simple and it uses a static EntityManager object. Here the code:
    public class EntityFacade {
         private static EntityManager em = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("ElectroManager").createEntityManager();
         private static Logger logger=Logger.getLogger(EntityFacade.class);
         public static void insertCliente(Cliente c)
              logger.debug("Inserisco cliente nel db: " + c);
              em.getTransaction().begin();
              c.setId(getNextIdForTable("Cliente"));
              em.persist(c);
              em.getTransaction().commit();
    If I call the method from inside a main it works well, so I think the problem is not the classpath neither the URL in the persistence.xml. However the URL is:
    <property name="toplink.jdbc.url" value="jdbc:derby:c:/programmi/ElectroManager/db/electroManager"/>
    I use the latest build version of TopLink.
    Thanks.
