Replacing pavillion p7-1417c hdd with larger capacity

I want to upgrade to a larger capacity hdd and can't find information about compatability of my motherboard (MSI MS-7778, chipset - AMD A75 FCH) with hdd's. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi,
You certainly could use a SATA III 3TB hard drive as a data only drive. Seagate markets some hybrid hard drives that would be a lot faster than the typical hard drive.  Your PC has an older HP Recovery Manager so it might not be able to work with advanced format hard drive that are over 2TB as compared to the newer HP PC models.
If you have further questions about hard drive upgrades then contact HP Support.

  • Can hard disk be replaced with larger capacity of SSD or SATA disk?

Weighing on buying a Twist, can I replace the hard disk with larger capacity SSD or SATA disk? Is there any capacity limit on SATA disk? Are SSD and SATA disks compatible for Twist (say replace SSD disk with SATA disk or vice versa?
    Many thanks.

the Twist's hdd is a 2.5 inch 7 mm drive, which you can upgrade to any other SATA disk of this size either platter or SSD.

  • Replace harddisk with larger capacity

My NMH405 now runs with two 500GB disks in RAID1. I want upgrade both disks to 1T (or maybe 2T). Please advise if the following steps make sense:
    1) power off NMH.
    2) replace slot B with a larger capacity disk (i.e. slot A = 500G, slot B = 1T).
    3) power up NMH and rebuild RAID1. I guess the total capacity still remains as 500G, right?
    4) power off NMH.
    5) replace slot A with a larger capacity disk (i.e. slot A = 1T, slot B = 1T).
    6) power up NMH and rebuild RAID1.
Now does the capacity remain as 500G or 1T? Or it doesn't work?
    Thanks.

I just got off the call with Cisco support Singapore. This guy Eric was very patient with my questions about replacing the harddisk with larger capacity. He went away to check the documentation and called me back after 30mins with the steps - start with replacing slot B with 1T, let it rebuild, and then replace slot A, and let it rebuild. It will then be 1T RAID1.

  • HP Pavilion g7-2221ez - replacing current 320 GB HDD with a 2TB HDD - POSSIBLE OR NOT?

Hello folks. Many questions on this topic but none that apply exactly to my situation: HARDWAREHP Pavilion g7-2221ez17.3" LED Sandyridge B9504GB, 320GB, DVD +-, CAM, WLAN, HDMIIntel HD Graphics 4000, Win8(in meantime upgraded to Win8.1) According to diagnostic done with free Internet tool the HDD is:Type:  ATAModel:  Toshiba MQOZABDO32Firmware:  AX001CSerial No:  XXXXXXXXXXXXCapactiy:  320GBLBA48:  SupportedSMART:  EnabledSection Type:  4K/512e I did purchase a Toshiba 2.5" SATA Hard Drive but found that has a height of 15mm whereas I only have space for a 9.5mm HDD. However, in the meantime I have found what seems to be a newer and perfect drive: TOSHIBA MQ-SERIES2TB SATA II 2.5" HDDRetail:  PX3006E-1HLORTHeight:  9.5mmCache:  8MBRevolutions:  5400/minute I read the Toshiba warning that in addition to phsical dimensions and connectors there are parameters like power consumption, temperature distribution etc. that could differ. Also an older BIOS version many not recognise a more modern, and larger HDD which exceeds a certain storage capacity. So my 2 questions are: (1)  Will the Toshiba MQ-Series PX3006E-1HLORT HDD work in my existing HP Pavilion g7-2221ex laptop?(2)  Will I need to change any other bits of hardware e.g. connector or install a new BIOS? Thanks and a final quickie. Trying to install the 15mm drive in the 9.5mm space i damaged slightly the two rubber end protectors that you slip off each end of the old HDD and onto each end of the new HDD. Where can i buy a new set? Have looked everywhere - nobody seems to sell them. Many thanks.Enthusiastic HP laptop user in need of more space for photos and stuff!Cheers. Steve.

Hello Huffer Many thanks for your prompt reply. I have been doing a bit more research and came across an old spec for a "lenovo" hard-disk (HDD) with 320GB capacity used in numerous ThinkPads. Unfortunately it does not include the X300 model that i have. The full details can be found HERE. The height of the HDD is 7 (SEVEN) mm. I may be paranoid but can you please just confirm that the lenovo X300 ThinkPads (see full details above) with the 320GB HDD really have a height of 9.5mm and so will be able to take the HDD 2.5" with 2TB that I plan to buy. If the height really is only 7m then I have a problem.  Then I think that i will have to go up my idea of increasing the storage space. If you cannot answer the question with 100% certitude then I will have to reopen the laptop and measure the space available but that is a pain since I am new to all this and afraid of damaging the HDD. Thanks. Cheers. Steve.

  • What do I need to do to replace my 80 gig HDD with a larger capacity HDD?

I have an older Mac mini, running OSX 10.6.8 @ 1.83 GHz w/2 GB ram.   It is used primarily for email, iPhone photo storage, and online banking. Works, but now I am out of memory. rather than buy a new unit, I'd prefer to replact the 80 GB HDD with a larger capacity drive. What do you recommend?

No such thing as a "PC hard drive".      Im sure it comes formatted in MSDOS or otherwise, ...doesnt mean anything.
Ive got a 100 drives laying around here, most came formatted in DOS or Exfat or NTFS , just formatted all of them for Mac.
format the HD as Mac OSX extended journaled ,....takes 5 seconds.
    CLONING:
    1. grab carbon copy cloner or superDuper CLONE app.
2 attach target clone drive via USB in an enclosure or HD dock. Firstly format the target (external new) HD or SSD in disk utility in “Mac OS extended journaled”
    3. clone internal HD to target HD or SSD (external) [takes about 40 mins depending on size]
    4. Boot ONCE from external (go to sys. preference to boot from external) to TEST the new Clone
    5. open bottom (see videos on ifixit or youtube on same) and remove old, install new.
(this video is for a 2012, look at this site for YOUR specific year / model)

    Done
(FIRST TIME after installing,  boot will be SLOW,...normal and ignore that).
    Clone APPS
Superduper does not clone the recovery partition, but that is NOT necessary if you keep the original HD as a “backup clone”. Most don’t bother with the recovery partition in a clone, however that is your prerogative.

My 80 gb drive has about 1 gb available,
Sounds like an old drive there.......  nice Hitachi or Toshiba 1TB external drive is average $70

  • Replacing Pavilion g7-2233cl HDD with SSD?

I've got a Pavilion g7-2233cl that the HDD recently failed on, was considering switching to an SSD. I'm trying to figure out if the SSD I'm looking at is compatable with my machine.

I cannot recommend a 60 gig drive. A basic install of Windows is going to run about 20 gigs and you are going to have hibernation files and restore files, apps (MS Office is 10 gigs plus) and such and before you know it the drive will be full. You actually can't fill it 100% so the real capacity is about 55 gigs tops. Yes, I am going to say get a 128 gig. Here is a 128 gig for not very much extra money:

The factory hard drive is a 2.5" SATA2 (maybe SATA3, not that it will matter for a mechanical hard drive anyway).
MLC or TLC doesn't matter overall for most consumers or prosumers.

  • Can I replace my HDD with a 'Ext. 250gb - Smartdisk Crossfire' HDD?

cause I think the ext. AC power is shot, only the green light is blinking rapid very faint. So, I was wondering if its was possible and wise to replace my powerbooks 80gb HDD with the 250gb HDD in the external? could it hurt to see if it works or.... nah... waste of time? anyone have a 'smartdisk crossover' ?cheers heaps

Why would you want to replace your internal hard drive with one that's broken?
The only way to find out whether the drive unit inside your external enclosure is suitable for use in your Powerbook is to open the enclosure. That will enable you to see whether the enclosure contains a SATA drive (which you can't use in any Powerbook) or a PATA drive (which you can, if it's a 2.5" drive with a maximum height of 12.5mm).

  • Do user-created recovery disks work with replacement HDD of different capacity?

The original Seagate 250GB SATA HDD in my Pavilion G60-214EM notebook has completely failed (BIOS and other Windows machines cannot even see it). I replaced it with a Samsung 160GB SATA HDD but Recovery Manager on my user-created (DVD-R) recovery disk consistently fails at 2% of "Reformatting  the Windows partition of your hard disk drive". If I look at the resulting partitions from another machine I see a 10.61 GB NTFS 'RECOVERY' partition, an empty active primary NTFS partition of 37.12 GB and 101.31 GB still unallocated.
Should the user-created recovery disks work if the replacement disk drive is smaller capacity than the original?
Should they work with a larger capacity replacement drive?
If not, can HP provide recovery disks that will work with a different capacity HDD?
    Thanks,
    --A

Hi, I am the same predicament as you are From my experience thus far, the replacement disk drive space needs to be bigger or equal to the original HD space. (e.g.. I had a 640 gb OEM HD, I cannot install or factory reset the new 500 gb WD HD because it says its too small...)
As for question 2, I am going to try to get a 1TB hard drive, though I don't know due to the prices and such. Will post back if I do.
Question 3: I do not know, someone else may be more knowledgeable:/
    Hope this helps!

  • Qosmio X500-10W - Can I replace the HDD with another one?

    Hello
I have a Qosmio X500-10W with two HDD Toshiba MK5055GSX 500GB 5400RPM 8MB ??SATA II but is one of hs so I wonder if I can be replaced by a more powerful style HDD 750GB 7200tr / min 16MB Toshiba course?
    merci

    Hey,
Your question is a little bit hard to understand but I think you want to replace the HDD with another (faster) model, right?
Well, thats no problem. HDDs with 7200rpm will work, they are a little bit louder but they are faster so if you need more performance no problem.
Also 750GB or more is no problem because SATA interface is not capacity limited. Theoretically 1TB or more should also work.
Anyway, you can buy the 750GB you mentioned it will work. :)

  • Preferred way to replace hdd with sad

    Hi,
currently I own a MacBook Pro with a 300GiB HDD. Because of all the iTunes stuff, which I want to leave where it is, the hard drive is getting fuller. I only have round about 40GiB left on my device.
I studied computer science and I already gave 8GB og memory to my computer, so I know what I am doing and I want to replace my hdd with an 400GiB ssd right now.
It seems it is SATA-2 2.5". So I guess every ssd should be fine, as long as it is good quality.
Now my question is, what is the best way to get my Lion back on the ssd?
I have a Time Capsule. So simplest way would be to put in the ssd and boot from my Lion DVD (which I created earlier) and restore the system. So here come to questions: What happens with partitions? The ssd is 100GiB larger, so does this work? What happens with the rescue partition and with the boot loader stuff?
A second way would be to install Lion directly from DVD and can I restore from Time Machine, then?
I am a little bit stuck here and do not yet know, would would be best? Any experiences that you might like to share with me?
The reason for the ssd by the way is that Lion got so brutally slow here :-(
Best wishes and thanks in advance
    Christian

Assuming you have an external enclosure for the drives, this is how I have switched drives:
First connect it to the MBP and open DISK UTILITY and format the new drive to MAC OS EXTENDED (JOURNALED).  (The side bar will show both drives, so select the new one)
Next go to RESTORE and drag the respective drives to the appropriate fields and click on restore.  This will transferr all of the data from the original drive to the new one.  This will result in both drives having duplicate data and may take a couple of hours of run time (you can have lunch or whatever).
Finally swap the new drive into the MBP and turn it on.  I have found that the initial boot takes about a minute longer than what you are used to.
You can put the old drive in the enclosure and erase the duplicate data.

  • Do I have all the parts to replace my HDD with a new SSD on my Macbook (late 2008)?

Hey everyone, I am trying to figure out if have all the parts to replace my hdd with a new ssd on my macbook (late 2008 aluminum).
I just bought a crucial mx100 SSD and plan on replacing my mac HDD. I have the appropriate screwdrivers, and a bootable OSX on a usb drive. I also purchased a sabrent usb 2.0 to sata/ide hard drive adapter.
How do I replace and install OSX on my new SSD?
From what I read here are the steps I'm planning on taking.
    1) Detach the old HDD
    2) Attach new SSD.
    3) Turn on computer and use the bootable usb drive to install OS X.
Does that work, I think I read somewhere about maybe formatting the SSD before I can use the bootable usb. Any input or help would be awesome. Thanks.
I'd prefer to do a clean install of yosemite and not carbon copy my old HDD
