Replacing previous copy stopped with..."don't have permission to open..."

main acct on macosx is having trouble with safari..new window opens with no browsing space to type only says "untitled"
So downloaded FF on other accounts of laptop. Now want it on main account so downloaded it but don't know..ca'n t see if one has been downloaded before for this acct....So, when download says "do you want to replace?" Yes___Then reply comes to me that I don't have permission for some.....?.

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or if you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded

I can not delete an email I get a message218130.emlx” couldn’t be copied because you don’t have permission to access “Messages”

Actually, the Finder solution did not work for me, but here's what did:
    Quit Mail (for safety's sake).
Open Terminal (it's in Utilities folder usually, but since I updated to ML it's in a folder called Other for some reason)
Once Terminal is open, you'll want to login as ROOT.  You do this as follows:
    Type
    sudo -i
Then hit Enter/Return. You'll be promoted for your system password. Hopefully you'll remember it. Enter your password then hit Enter/Return.
You'll then be at what's known as a root prompt.
At this point BE VERY CAREFUL.  You have the ability at this point to completely destroy your machine beyond repair. Only type what I list below:
To find the folder that contains the email message you'll need to type the following:
    find . -name "218130.emlx"
    Hit Enter/Return
This will take a minute or two but what should appear in the list of other items that appear is something along the lines of the following (it won't be exactly this but will look LIKE this) I've replaced some personally identifying info:
    ./Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/POP-youremailaddress@yourmailserver/INBOX.mbox/ 0355DF0D-5E99-4798-B79E-48D71E68AF34/Data/3/2/Messages/23219.emlx
This line describes the location of the offending email. You know what to put yourself into this directory:
    cd /Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/POP-youremailaddress@yourmailserver/INBOX.mbox/0 355DF0D-5E99-4798-B79E-48D71E68AF34/Data/3/2/Messages/
    Hit Enter/Return
Notice, I left of the name of the actual email address. You'll need to be sure you type the location EXACTLY or this won't work. You want to be in the Messages folder. You'll know you're there because your Terminal prompt will look something like this:
    Your Name - iMac:Messages
Then just to be sure you're in the right place, type
    ls
    Hit Enter/Return
You should then see something like this:
    iMac:Messages root# ls
    23013.emlx    23096.emlx    23100.emlx    23156.emlx    23210.emlx    23213.emlx    218130.emlx
You'll see the offending message. Now, you delete ONLY this message. Type:
    rm -f 218130.emlx
That's RM at the start above. You'll need to type it in lower case. Be sure that's all you type.
    Hit Enter/Return
You'll should be disappointed at the results because it will look like nothing happened. You can hit ls  and Enter/Return one more time and the offending file should be gone.
EXIT TERMINAL. DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING ELSE. DO NOT "POKE AROUND". THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO EXPLORE. SERIOUS SYSTEM DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED FROM HERE. EXIT TERMINAL NOW.
Now re-open Mail  - the message will still appear to be in there, but magically, you can delete it. you can also delete it from your Trash for good measure.

At official Apple page's I found this:
With our Guest Checkout feature, you can check out on the Apple Online Store without an Apple ID or password. Simply add the items you would like to purchase to your shopping basket, enter your shipping and payment information, and click the "Place Order Now" button.
You will be able to visit online Order Status to check your order status and track shipments.
To cancel items, add items, or make changes to your order, please call 1800 88 20 45.
    What number I must dial?

  • Trying to copy files and getting this error message, One or more items can't be copied because you don't have permission to read them. this is really annoying, can someone pls help..?

i have two network drive and i am trying to copy a file from my mac mini to one of the network drives, but i keep getting this error message "One or more items can’t be copied because you don’t have permission to read them." i have no idea why this is since i have always been able to copy stuff back and forth. i checked my file sharing permissions and it is set to read and write for admin (me), none for everyone and read for guests. can someone please, this is very annoying and this is the second time it has happened to me.

neither move nor copy is working. both way gives same error message. what i would like to do however is move the file. yes i am logged in as a the admin and the issue is affecting not just that particular file in my system but others as well. i looked at get info and no the file is not locked but under permission, it says everyone and read only. it will not let me change this setting from get info however when i look under system preferences for file sharing, my setting is read and write for admin (me), none for everyone and read for guests.

    Is the folder called Messages?

  • How do I view pc files migrated to iMac? The folders tell me I don't have permission to open them.

I used the Migration Assistant tool to copy files from my WindowsXP pc to my new iMac.   This took about 3 hours to complete.
I finally was able to locate the folders on the iMac, but they all have a red minus sign in the bottom right corner, and when I try to open them, I get a message saying I don't have permission to open the files - even though they are my own files.  Any ideas on how to access my migrated files on my Lion iMac?

Select a folder, CMD+I, unlock the lock, and change the permissions. Assuming that you're a switcher from the PC world,  see these:

  • You don't have permission to open this file.

I'm trying to add an Entity Data Model to a Project in Visual Studio 2013.
When I browse to the file to connect to it says
"You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the owner or administrator for permission."
When I go back to SQL Management Studio and check the Server Roles assigned to my user name, I'm listed as a sysadmin.
I clicked ALL the other server roles for good measure, but this does not help.
When I installed SQL Server 2012 I created another user on my computer to serve as the SQL Server Services Account for SQL Server Agent and SQL Server Database Engine.
I notice that this user shows up as the database owner for the database I'm trying to connect to, even though I was logged on using my user name when I created the database.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about Entity Data Model, but if you get an error about lack of permission for opening a file (what file?), SQL Server is probably not the right place to look for file permissions. SQL Server is about managing data in databases, not
files in the file system. For file-permission errors, you need to look in Windows. Or try starting Visual Studio with "Run as Administrator".

Since I upgraded to Mavericks X, I don't have "permission" to open my photo files in Time Machine.  Other documents seem to work fine, and I am the only "administrator".

Is the iPhoto library in your home folder, or have you moved it somewhere else?

  • I don't have permission to open my own folders

My hard drive failed and I just got it replaced. Now I can't open my Desktop, Documents, Libraries, Movies and Pictures folders because I "don't have permission to see [their] contents". After using Migration Assistant to pull in my backed-up data I was asked to change my user name and I suspect this is at the root of the problem.

I did a permission repair booted from the Snow Leopard disk and that appears to have solved the problem – for which many thanks, Barney. However almost half of the items in my Dock have now been replaced by question marks and two have different icons which, upon clicking, become renamed as unknown files (for instance my iChat icon has turned into a Tiff document item. Holding the cursor over it displayed "iChat" but after clicking it linked to a .tif file which lies within Applications > iChat.app > Contents > Resources. With one exception, the remaining apps in the Dock are those which came with the OS. Presumably the answer is to copy the missing apps from Time Machine but how exactly do I go about that?

  • HT201272 i just bought a Mac Pro and it says i can't download previous purchases because i don't have permission to where do i go on this laptop to change that

i bought a macbook pro and i am trying to download my previous purchases in itunes and it says that i have not authorized to do this. Where do i go to activate it?

OK Folks i believe i have actually found the solution. I know i am a bit slow but i only got my New HTC One 32gb today (it was free from Three). Like you it would not connect to my Mac or work PC. So here is the way i got it to work. Download Android File Transfer if you have not already got it. Make sure you have USB Debugging setup etc. Now you need to download a free programme called SyncMate. I used SyncMate 4 because i am running OS X 10.7. There is a paid for version of Syncmate but we just want the free version as it seems to contain some drivers that will make Android File Transfer see you phone. Download SyncMate, install it as per usual and hey presto when you plug in your HTC One Android File Transfer should open automatically...BINGO!!! It worked for me which i am really chuffed about as i was just about to ring Three back up to get the phone returned. Let me know if it worked for you too :-)
    Cheers dudes
    Paul.

  • Time Machine informs me I don't have permission to open trashed folders, when Iam the sole user of my  20" imac.

I upgraded to Lion, and have encountered problems with passwords needed often in mail, calendar and Time machine restores.
I changed my apple ID password, nothing else. Can anyone assist? Would moving to Mountain Lion be the solution?
    Thanks for reading.

  • "you don't have permission to open this file" when trying to attach in firefox ONLY. Works in other browsers and windows permissions are wide open.

Only a problem in Firefox. Works in IE and Chrome. I went thru support ideas of checking windows permissions (wide open and the user is the owner), starting firefox in safe mode and uninstalled/reinstalled firefox. Same problem. Any file in My Documents gives the same error, so it is not file related. Any directory under My Documents works the same. I can move files to Desktop and then they attach fine.

As mentioned in the original post, the user IS the owner and the permissions are WIDE open for the user. I have also tried to disable the anti-virus - no luck. The problem is ONLY happening in Firefox. Chrome and IE work perfect. There is also no problem in Windows. The user can add/remove/edit files in the directory. Right now the solution seems to be to use Chrome. I'm not excited about that, but at this point, the only option.
