Replacing the iMac G4 screen.

Hi, i have searched for ways in how to use your old iMac G4 monitor as an external monitor with no success, so an idea occurred to me, what if i find an LCD monitor that would fit in the casing of the iMac G4?
I know is possible, and that the only hard part would be running the cables down through the arm, but i think i can figure that out, so the question now is which LCD screen/monitor will fit on the iMac G4 casing?

When you replace the original LCD panel in the iMac G4 with a
complete display (not just the panel with inverter, etc inside) the
combined weight of the new or different display may offset the
designed balance the chrome arm's internal springs & dampener
were intended to compensate for, with the original panel.
This may (or not) be a problem. You may have to find the take-
apart images of the chrome arm - posted in another link here,
and see if there is a way to modify the friction dampeners. Or
use a chrome arm from a 20" iMac G4 since it holds a heavier
LCD than the 17" arm was intended to support.
Hopefully some liquid crystal panel display that fits the 17"
display frame won't weigh much more. Or, perhaps some
of the components could be moved into the base of an
otherwise defective iMac G4 if the machine is gutted and
used only for a display support platform.
Sharing a display to expand the desktop of one to the other
can be done, with two healthy Mac computers. Either in a
third-party software or in a display option in Leopard.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

As I can understand you want to make some of the screen field to disable or visible on screen  depending upon the interaction of user with screen 1.
You may use this example code in PBO of screen 2.
    LOOP AT SCREEN.
" action has been taken to modify the area office screen as per the option chosen at screen 99.
        CASE ACTION.
" if the user has taken up the option of UPLOAD
WHEN 'UP'.     " screen processing while we upload the plan
" during upload we will make dates as output fields only
            IF SCREEN-NAME = 'ZSDTPLANVRSIO-DAT_TO' OR SCREEN-NAME = 'ZSDTPLANVRSIO-DAT_FRM'.
              SCREEN-INPUT = 0.
              MODIFY SCREEN.
            ENDIF.
" also make 2 buttons disabled
            IF SCREEN-NAME = 'AO_DO' OR SCREEN-NAME = 'AO_VE'.
              SCREEN-ACTIVE = 0.
              MODIFY SCREEN.
            ENDIF.
WHEN 'DN'.      " screen processing while we upload the approved plan
" during upload we will make dates as output fields only
            IF SCREEN-NAME = 'ZSDTPLANVRSIO-DAT_TO' OR SCREEN-NAME = 'ZSDTPLANVRSIO-DAT_FRM'.

" also make 2 buttons disabled
            IF SCREEN-NAME = 'AO_UP' OR SCREEN-NAME = 'AO_VE'.
              SCREEN-ACTIVE = 0.
              MODIFY SCREEN.
            ENDIF.
WHEN 'VW'.      " screen processing while we view the plan

              SCREEN-INPUT = 0.

  • Using the iMac 27 screen with my macbook

    Hi there,
My wife has a Macbook Air and I've just ordered a 27" iMac (Dec 2012 model). Is it possible for her to plug her Macbook Air into the iMac via thunderbolt and use the larger display for the Macbook Air (much like you would with a thunderbolt display)?
Thanks for any help you can give

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    It depends. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
You have ordered a Late 2012 iMac, that has got Thunderbolt ports. If your wife has got a Mid 2011 or newer MacBook Air, you can use your iMac as an external display for the MacBook Air, because the MacBook Air has got a Thunderbolt port. However, if it's an older MacBook Air, you won't be able to use it because you can't connect a MacBook Air with Mini DisplayPort into another Mac with Thunderbolt to be used as a display.
If your wife has got a MacBook Air with a Thunderbolt port, just buy a Thunderbolt cable like this one and follow the steps of my link above to set up your iMac as a display.
If the MacBook Air has got Mini DisplayPort, you can still use the iMac as a display if you install a VNC client as ScreenRecycler on both computers. This application uses your network to use your iMac as a display for the MacBook Air and it works great, but it completely depends of the network

  • Is there any way to rotate the software portion of the imac g4 screen?

I am running OSX 10.4.11 and I want to rotate the software (not hardware) portion of the imac g4 display.
I have Tried switchresx and applscripts and display rotation menu I have aso tried alt (or alt-command) clicking displays.
I am open to any suggestions, any help would be greatly appreciated!

The referenced product item, as linked from the maker's web page, has a working URL that will attempt to download to an Application one chooses within the download window. Since I am not certain of what it is really asking for (relative to an application I may incorrectly choose?) I have not tried to download this Easy Pivot item.
    re: EasyPivot for OS X:
    http://easypivot.filiptepper.com/
You may be able to contact the maker directly via the http://tepper.pl/ web page or social network-related links therein.
While I have an older Samsung rotating display attached to a G4 Mini PPC running Leopard 10.5.8 which could use some kind of pivot software, I am not taking a chance on this EasyPivot through links I've found.
The graphics support built into a computer may not be able to facilitate rotating the output; so the idea of using a third-party software to alter how the hardware was intended to perform may not be a viable concept, especially on older hardware with vintage built-in graphics support. External displays may be acted on by software in some cases; built-in displays are more unlikely to perform such tasks.

  • HT5622 Will apple replace the original iPhone  screen and LCD and digitizer and how much will it be ????? And please tell me ??? Thank you :) for the help :)

Will apple still fix the original iPhone screen ???? And digtizer ???

Apple no longer supports the original iPhone. If you really want to repair it, you'll need to either take/send it to a third-party repair shop or buy parts and attempt repair yourself. Myself I wouldn't spend any money trying to repair the original iPhone.
    Regards.

  • After having replaced the iMac hard drive I no longer can make iTunes security backups from my iPhone 4S?

After having had my iMac's hard drive replaced (had a defect 1 TB Seagate) and the 10.8.2 reinstalled, I no longer can make security backups from my iPhone 4S. iTunes simply tells me that the backup cannot be saved on my computer (which it has done numerous times prior the replacement of the hard drive). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Click the green jelly button at top left of iTunes window to resize the screen to fit.

  • Are These Vertical Running Lines on the iMac's Screen Normal?

Hi. Is this normal for an LED LCD such as those found on Intel iMac (specifically the late 2009 model)? It's very visible on the very dark gray background and it runs from top to bottom on both sides of the screen (the distances are symmetrical though). If it's not normal, what's this problem called and how's it fixed:

    Thank you.
    God bless, Rev. 21:4

Do a Safe Boot and see if you still see them. If you do, it's most likely a problem with the screen, which will need to be replaced. If not, it's probably an issue with the video card (GPU). Either way, not cheap, but fixing a GPU (Graphics Processor) will most likely require a complete logic board replacement--more expensive than the screen.

  • How much will it cost me to replace the whole top screen of my macbook, including the part that pivots to open and close it?

I'm not sure of what it's exactly called, but my whole screen (including the black part that attaches the screen to the keyboard) is in bad condition. My screen is cracked, and when I open my macbook, the hinge is loose and flops and does not stay in place. Does anybody know how much it would cost for a replacement? Would I be better off buying a new laptop?
    Thanks

This is an international community.  Prices vary from country, state, city, etc.
You should call the repair shop of your choice and ask for an estimate.  Make sure the estimate includes taxes, labor costs, etc.
Remember, no one can give you an exact figure until the repair techs physically examine & run diagnostics on your computer to confirm what is wrong w/it.

  • My ipad was dropped recently and cracked throughout the screen.  I was curious if I had to replace the actual glass screen or just the digitizer?

I dropped my screen and was curious if I had to buy a new digitizer or an actual new piece of glass to replace it.

Depends on the damage to the iPad. Dropping it can cause some internal damage so the whole iPad may need to be replaced. You need to call Apple for their replacement options or go through Insurance (Home & Contents etc) to get it done.

  • 21.5 inch iMac yellow screen issue - please read the question before answering

I have a late 2012 iMac (21.5inch). I thought 21.5 models were immune to this issue, but I noticed bottom half of the screen is showing some yellow tint compared to upper half. I thought it was due to the angle of the screen and lighting in my room but that changed when I put my MacBook pro right next to my iMac. Compared to my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, the iMac's screen has a definite yellower time to it..
How much will it cost to replace the screen to eliminate the yellow tint? Please, no replies about taking my iMac to Apple store or calling them. I've already called several different Apple stores, and they have no idea. And please, no Applecare answers or "expensive" answers. I already have Applecare. Yes, I know it's free if I have Applecare. I just want to know how much Apple will charge if I don't have Applecare.

If you don't have AppleCare, it will be probably pretty pricey (just to get them to open it up!).
If any past experience with iMacs doing similar things, it is probably one of the backlights they use for the screen.
That AppleCare does pay for itself when things like this happen.
Except for RAM, there are no user-serviceable parts in iMacs.

  • Is there a way to replace the ram holder in my 2007 iMac

I recently was replacing the ram in my iMac, and forgot I had taken the ram out of its slot. That being said I pulled out the metal piece that holds the ram into place. I am now stuck with only 1 ram slot. Is there any way to repair this?

Obviously because since I have 3 working ones why would I got buy another one? Buying a totally new one isn't an option, because theres no point.
    Yes there is a point.
You posted here here because you want to address the issue. Replacing the iMac would get you a replacement working iMac that you messed up.
What’s the point of you posting here if you do not want suggestions on how to deal with what you asked about?

  • Using the iMac for display only?

I bought an iMac in 2008. I use it for the majority of my computing needs, and for the most part is serves my purposes for everything. One thing I would like though is more gaming power.
I have a PC tower that is not connected to anything at the moment and needs a little hardware work which I will do myself.
Since the iMac is not user upgradable, and the video/graphics card is not upgradable at all, I was curious if I was able to connect the PC tower to the iMac's screen and use it as a display for a gaming computer and disconnect the tower for regular computing.
While I'm asking, is there any external way to improve the graphics card for gaming that anyone is aware of?

...Its too bad the graphics card is not upgradeable. I'm also going to try and find out if there is some sort of external way to increase performance....
This is the inherent issue with all "all-in-ones", both laptops and desktops, both PCs and Macs. For the most part, they are not upgradable. You can replace HD and RAM, but pretty much everything else "is what it is" and upgrades are "external only." Don't hold your breath that you'll find any way to increase performance (video or CPU.)
In the long run, you may want to consider just selling the iMac and get a new Mac. A Mini or Mac Pro, both of which do not have built-in monitors so would require you to get a monitor anyway, then you could KVM it with the PC. (I have my Mini KVMed with a Dell Poweredge server, which is sitting under my desk.) Alternatively, the new 27" iMac does allow for video input so it could be used as a monitor for the PC.

  • Can I replace the LCD with an LED on Early 2009 24" model?

I have an old 2009 (okay, so not that old) iMac and the LCD has some serious burn-in and it's to the point where I can't use the computer without it hurting my eyes. I'm looking to replace the screen, but the computer still works great and I don't want to have to do this again in four to five years. Any chance I can take an LED display from a 24" Cinema Display and put it in the iMac, or are the connections different?

Personally I would use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, DVI cable and a $130 DVI monitor, before shelling out for a $500 to $600 for a replacement panel. Or at least until your 100% sure, that there is nothing wrong with the logicboard or graphic's chip.
Optionally a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable would be an even cheaper setup, if you already have an HDMI TV.
Addtitionally I would probably just replace the iMac with another iMac or Mac Mini, because it is real hard to justify spending anything at all on a 5 year old system.

The in-store inspection, product specialist or in-house expert, then technical testing to diagnose the exact cause of the issue, then if done in-house, a repair sequence initiated with an open estimate on what replacement parts would actually be needed, could alter the original best-guess somewhat.
A simple backlight or inverter issue may be all that is causing the symptom. Nobody can simply give you a base price of one size fits all. They will not just 'replace a display' since the panel is more than just one part. If a voltage variation is the cause of partial tint or backlight color, then that will be part of the inspection and diagnosis; this may be in a shop for weeks.

You appear to have an issue with Apple, so there are
a few good links to their main web site. You can go
and Locate an authorized service nearby, contact an
Apple authorized representative, etc, there. We who
reply here have no direct connection, nor do we have
any authority, cannot cite prices or give quotes, etc.
And our time is our own, individually. We're not Apple.
You will have to contact Apple. You have a computer.
I will not do that for you, from my residence, half a
world away where I have no more access to a Store
than a moose, or a ptarmigan, outside my door.
    Good luck.

  • Need advice replacing HP Mini 2102 Screen

    Hey all,
I am fixing an HP Mini 2102 netbook that was dropped on the ground. The netbook works fine, except now the screen is somewhat hazy and washed out on the right side. Usually, when a laptop screen acts up, I try to replace the display inverter board, as was the case with an HP Pavilion dv9000 machine I fixed recently.
However, after dismatling the computer, I found no such inverter on the screen, and after consulting with a very helpful HP support assistant in a live chat session who informed me that there isn't a separate inverter board available for purchase, I've come to believe I must replace the whole screen.
If I am not mistaken, the LCD part number is 589649-001 for this particular model I am repairing. I am creating this post to confirm that the inverter board on this Mini cannot be replaced, and that I must replace the entire LCD screen - minus the camera, bezel, and hinges, which all work fine - in order to fix the display issue.
If there are any other suggestions as to what part I need, or if I need to take a completely different approach to the repair, please let me know before I order the LCD screen part.
