Replacing the motherboard

So I have owned this power mac since around 2004 and have used it for a plethera of things from making music on garageband to making movies on imovie and everything else from browsing the web to creating office documents. It is a reliable machine that is still powerful and useful even today. But i have recently started to use it as often as I used to and have noticed some real issues. I am now having trouble doing everything i need to do now and am preparing to begin to basically rebuild the machine. I've found fitting replacement parts for basically everything except the motherboard. I want to have more ram, more processing speed, and all around more power from this machine. What do I need to know to replace the motherboard? And do you have any suggestions for products?

Many cards support 2 monitors. Depends more which connectors they have, most have a combination of two.
There's 3 possible types, ADC...
VGA & DVI...

my new macbook pro is giving me hardtime. even apple team is not being to solve it. they replace the motherboard first it didn't work. second time they formatted the computer and that also didn't work. every time my mac showing different problems.
At first my computer had issues. Once it go to sleep it will not back again. I dropped my laptop at apple store to fix it. After 10  days they returned my laptop saying they were no able to fix the problem so they replaced motherboard aiming if that might help. Acttually that didn't help.I had same issue again. I visited apple store again. This time they said they could fix, if I will allow them to format the harddrive. I said ok. They formatted it. It was working fine for few daysAfter few days compter is taking.even more than 15 min to shutdown. Now computer has another problem. It is being hang frequently like every 20'to.30 min.
I don't know what to do? I still have one month left on first year warranty. I have requested couple times to apple associates either to fix or replace or refund. They are showing me rude behavior. They are not understanding my situation. I am a student. I need to do lot of home work. Since last three month my mac book and apple associates giving me hard time. Any suggestions are welcome.

Contact Apple Customer Care - not Apple Care - Customer Support. Have your receipts handy and/or case numbers. Be patient, be calm, and tell your story just as you have here. I get the sense you are not in the US and don't have access to an Apple Store but are going to an independent shop. This makes using Customer Support all the more important. If phoning isn't viable, use registered mail.
Since time is running short, be prepared to purchase AppleCare to exennd your warranty 2 more years. Yes, you shouldn't have to do this, but it gives you added protection and more opportunities over the next 2 years to claim a replacement computer if you don't get one immediately. After dealing with a similar unhappy situation with a Mac in the late 1990s I finally got a replacement computer and reimbursed for the AppleCare policy.

  • HT1386 asus replaced the motherboard in my windows 7 machine since getting it back can not sync or connect to store

After asus replaced the motherboard in my lap top I can not connect to i tunes or sync my apps. I was able to authorize a different machine and it works. The asus was the original machine I first set up my new I phone 4s.

Just curious, have you resolved your issue yet?
I am working on a friend's computer that had the same issue and it turned out that her iTunes was set by some crappy program called TuneUp Companion to use Windos XP compatibility.
If you have TuneUp Companion, uninstall it.
Then check to see if iTunes is trying to run in some prior windows version compatibility and turn it off

  • If you replace a video card... do you have to replace the motherboard too?

so my pre-unibody mbp has a faulty video card. i'm told it needs to be replaced. is it true that having the video card replaced involves replacing the motherboard too?

If I may chime in, if you are a heavy photoshop user-the 13" is already not an option.  15" or 17" depending on your budget. You need the i7 processor and upgrading to 8gb ram wouldnt hurt either.  But dont get the ram from Apple..way overpriced.  See here: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/1333DDR3S08S/. 8gb for $60-cant go wrong with that! And a lifetime guarantee.

  • USB port....need to replace the motherboard or whatever holds the USB in place

the USB port on the lower R side of my hp pavillion dv1000 notebook pc....when I try to plug something into the USB port, the port goes in.  I need to replace the USB port. I don't know if it can be fixed or if I have to replace a motherboard or sisterboard or whatever the USB port is connected to. Any ideas or advice and how hard is it to fix it. I don't want to get rid of the laptop because it still works great. I can burn and play cds and dvds on it. I can use the WIFI to access my email. Other than the USB port connection needing repair...it runs great. Please advise or help. Since it's out of warrantee since 2007(purchased in 2004) hp will not give me any support or tell me what part I need to replace etc... And it would cost more to send it out to fix....around 400 or 500.  So I want to get the part and have my friend put it in. Please advise/help.

Post your full model number and I will see if it is a replaceable part.

  • DV5 constantly blinking after replacing the motherboard

    Hi all,
Just a quick background on the situation:  I had to replace the screen on my DV5 due to an unfortunate accident.
So I had my friend replace the screen.  As soon as he got it all hooked up again, the computer powered on, but soon quickly stopped.  It then started blinking the trouble code.  After calling HP, he determined it was the motherboard, it was fried.  So I ordered a new motherboard and had him install it. After it was installed, it wouldn't start at all.
So I had another person (this time an ex-IBM employee) try and fix it for me.  He disassembled everything, and couldn't get it to power-up.  All of the connections are set-up correctly, but it just wont power up.  It's evident that the computer is receiving power though, as the trouble light is now constantly blinking, and blinked easily over 30 times. The light blinking is white.
Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

    Hi,
The reading sounds about right.  Have you tried removing the battery and starting the notebook with just the AC Adapter plugged in?

  • Replacing the motherboard in my DV9700t

I recently fried the motherboard on my DV9700t and need to replace it. The part number for the board is 481069 and its the model that includes the nVidia 8600m GS with 512mb of video ram. I'm looking around Ebay for a replacement and that exact model runs around $200. I've seen boards with the part number of 481068 which is just one number off of mine for about $80 less. As far as I can tell it only has less video ram. I am unsure of the processor though.
Can anyone help me figure out what my options are for replacing it? I want to keep at least a similar video card (something in the 8600 series), but if the only difference between the two boards I've found is less video ram then I'll just get that as I dont need 512mb of video ram in my laptop. Are there any other similar boards I can look at too?
just as a note; I need the dual SATA ports and I want to stick with Intel so I can use the same processor. As far as I can tell everything else works in it.
    Thanks.

You may have difficulty finding your exact motherboard unless you go to HP.  Your current processor chip can be reinstalled on the replacement board.  It's probably best to have a pro do it.

  • Can I replace the motherboard in a late 2011 with a newer one

I've been cursed with the dreaded 2011 video card nonsense. I need a solution and it has to be out of pocket, I don't have Applecare. But I don't want to do it more than once. So if I could use a newer motherboard, it might save me some money in the long run.

You can certainly get a replacement board from Apple, but too many people have been stung that way, going through logic board after logic board.
The only real 'fix' for the problem seems to be a BGA reballing. Some have had failure even after a reball so make certain that you select a shop that offers at least one year's warranty.

  • I have replaced the Motherboard 2 times for my T43 notebook - is this a recurring defect?

What are the chances of getting a motherboard failing 2 times in period of 40 months? Thats what happened to me and I think the odds are extremely low UNLESS there is something else happening to cause this.
Does anyone know if there is a recurring defect with the T43 as I am now past my warranty period and am really upset as a new motherboard is nearly 1/2 the price of a new notebook. Unless this is a recurring defect and i can make a claim to Lenovo, I will be throwing the notebook into the waste paper basket.
Any suggestions will be REALLY appreciated.....

Well. you should be able to get a replacement mobo in Thinkpads.com or e-bay for less than that.  Of course, you have to install it yourself.

  • Replaced zd8000 motherboard and need some troubleshooting help please............

    Hello All,
I just replaced the motherboard on our HP zd8000 (pentium 4, 3.0ghz, 2gb ram, Win XP) with a used but tested good MB and need some help with the following.
    1) I now cannot play DVD movies as the error no "dvd decoder" present which was not an issue before?  Where can I go to get a free decoder that will work, as Windows only shows paid versions?  We have the dvd burner/reader with lightscribe. SOLVED! CNET HAD DECODER.
    2) The internal temperature, according to SpeedFan, is running around 140 degrees with just some Internet browsing.  Is that a normal temperature because I only have one of three fans running on the laptop?  Is there anyway of making all three fans run to be sure there are no issues?  I am positive I hooked up everything but again only one fan seems to be running?
    3) I discovered some of the pins were damaged in the card reader.  I may get the Seller to give me a discount, no intention of tearing it apart simply for that, but is there any concern of short or otherwise?
    4) Our battery stopped charging years ago, these were notorious for such, but I purchased a new one last year and hoped the replacement MB would allow charging again.  No such luck though.  Is there anything I can do, BIOS update etc, to make the battery charge?
    5) Anything you folks can think of for me to test to insure the new motherboard is working properly?
    Thanks, Ralph
P.S. This was a correct replacement board according to MB serial numbers.  Everything else seems to be functioning properly other than mentioned.  Our graphics went out on the original MB.
    This question was solved.

Some of the wires had pushed out of the harness that connected the other two fans.  I double checked and re-attached those so now the laptop is running quite a bit cooler.
    EVERYTHING IS GOOD TO GO!

  • Replacing a motherboard on a macbook air

To the people that are reading this, I thank you for helping me. I have been thinking about replacing the motherboard in my macbook air (13", mid 2011) so I can have better specs. However, there is one problem: it must obviously be the same size so it will fit perfectly. Does anybody know if the size of the most recent macbook air's motherboard is the same as my model? My warranty is now expired so I have some freedom. Please let me know!

If it's from the same model MBA, it will work.
Check its "model identifier". A Mid-2011 MBA, 13 inch size for example, will be MacBookAir4,2.
The most recent macbook air's model identifier is MacBookAir6,2 and its logic board cannot be substituted.
