Replacing Touchpad/Mouse buttons on CQ60- 212EM

Hi
I have a CQ60 212EM laptop which is passed its warranty date and  I live in the UK.  One of the mouse buttons on the touchpad is getting stiff to press ie it doesn't 'click'. It will fail eventualy I think. Is it possible to buy a replacement touchpad/mouse buttons (I  assume they are integrated in one unit)?
Can I buy a new unit in the UK and who would I contact?
Any information about the part no. or scourcing a new one would be appreciated .
Thanks

You could try a Linux Live CD. That would tell you if it's a hardware or software issue.

  • DV6-3236nr replacement touchpad / mouse?

This may seem like a weird question, but is it possible to buy a replacement touchpad (from a similar HP notebook) and swap it with the one in this notebook?
This is my 3rd HP notebook.  My 2nd died last Saturday after just 2 years of use due to a power surge.  I need a notebook for work, so I went out that night and immediately bought this one (Dv6-3236nr) because of the specs and the price.
I got it home, set it up...but I HATE the touchpad - specifically the left and right click "buttons".  Because the touchpad / buttons are made on one piece of plastic surface, I initially thought the left/right buttons just needed to be touched to activate- like Macbook touchpads...but no, they need to be pressed.
The only problem is, you have to practically bust a finger to click.  Dragging and dropping and highlighting are ridiculous.  My husband joked that I would be a Thumb War World Champion due to the muscle power needed in your fingers to perform simple tasks.
I know the default answers are to either return it for another model OR buy an optical mouse and use that...but after customizing and installing what I need, realizing just how much these crappy buttons limit me & it all puts me in a tough spot.  As for buying a mouse...I just hate having extra equipment to keep an eye on.
I figure this is more of a techy question so I'm going to ask HP support as well, but figured maybe someone on here had an idea.
    Thanks in advance.

I figured I'd update this for anyone with this model and questioning the touchpad.
I submitted a support request via email to HP and they escalated my case to a Case Manager...very disappointing.
After re-explaining the issue from my email, listening to the outsourced Case Manager tell me I could send in the notebook to be checked for repair with a replacement touchpad because HP won't give me a brand new computer (??? when did I ask for that?!?), then explaining AGAIN that it is a design flaw with this model so installing a replacement touchpad is a waste of time and asking AGAIN if it could be serviced with a touchpad from a different model, she told me the HP warranty only covers original parts therefore they will not install a touchpad from a different  model even if it is a design flaw.
What a wonderful company.  I should have known better after sending my last notebook into HP (under warranty) for repair for the power cable plug and having them turn around and want $550 for a new motherboard because it "may" be damaged from some theoretical damage I supposedly "may" caused as it sat on my office desk for 9 months, and accidental damage is not covered until the HP warranty.  When we had a power surge last week that fried the computer, I should've gotten a different brand but I guess I was hoping that experience was a fluke, but no.
So I'll be taking this model back to the store and getting a different brand.  It's too bad too, because aside from the touchpad I really like this model.  It's not very popular (probably because of the touchpad), but it's fast, quiet, light, and stays cool.
Oh well.  The fabulous HP "Total Care" support team cost HP another customer.

  • Anyone having discoloration issue on the mouse button?

I have a week 21 MacBook with discoloration on the plastic area where my wrists sometimes rest... I am waiting to have it replaced until Apple makes some statement about the random power issues, so I can have both issues addressed at once if possible.
My question is- has anyone noticed the same discoloration issues on the mouse button? Both the wrist-rest area and the moust button are discolored on mine. Also, if you've had your discoloration issue fixed, does Apple also replace the mouse button? Thanks.

Funny thing is: I only have a discolored mouse button. The rest of the areas are in good original color.
I am not even sure it constitutes a "plastic" replacement, even if my book is in within the serial number range.

  • Synaptics TouchPad V6.3 PS/2 Mouse buttons stopped working HDX 16 Notebook

This is the third time that the mouse has died. The first machine I got from HP lasted a month then the mouse died. The replacement machine lasted 3 months before it died. I used an external mouse for 1.75 years before I sent it in for repair on the $200 extended warantee that I purchased because I didn't get it fixed under the standard warantee.
The repair was done in August of 2011 so a little more than a year and 1/2 later seems like another failed mouse.
Does anybody know if it's the mouse that fails or the motherboard. HP sells the top cover with the mouse integrated into it?
I can't remember what was replaced the last time. I think it took a motherboard and top cover with integrated mouse pad.
Notebook:  HDX 16, Product Number NK133AV  also known at Model 1200 series. Vista 64bit Home Premium
Discharged the power in the machine as per other posts I've read. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Synapics Driver and nothing has changed the buttons still don't work.
The touchpad seems to have all it's functionality it's just the 2 mouse buttons that have died.
The device manger shows that the mouse is working properly as a Synaptics and as a Standard HID compliant mouse.
Anybody have any ideas for a solution to this problem.  Is there anyway to test the ps/2 port on the motherboad and /or to test the mousepad itself?
My old Dell still had a working mouse when it was retired after 6 years for an upgrade to this machine.
    Thanks for any help

Hello jbarsanti.  I understand your mouse's buttons aren't working properly.
What is the product number for your notebook?  This will allow me to find information regarding your specific version of the notebook.  This document can show you where the product number is located.
Have you opened the notebook to verify that the keyboard's connection to the motherboard is secure?
If the connection is secure I would suggest performing a Microsoft System Restore to restore the notebook to a point prior to the issue.  If this doesn't resolve the issue then you may want to consider a recovery.  The recovery will take your notebook back to factory conditions.  If the issue persists after a recovery you can say with 99% certainty that the issue is hardware related.  However, all data that you do not back up prior to the recovery will be lost.  This document covers the recovery process.
If the issue persists after a recovery you'll likely need to replace that top cover which contains the buttons.  In order to locate the proper information and parts I'll need the product number that I asked for above.  Once I have that information I'll go ahead and provide you with information regarding the repair in case you need to go that route.
If you have any questions let me know.  I hope you have a great day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

    Hi.
My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch.
The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Hi there.
First of all, I'd like to say that Lenovo Customer Care have been extremely difficult to deal with and quite unhelpful; They are no longer returning communications and have seriously damaged any faith I had in Lenovo as a brand and the extended warranty I bought is useless. I cannot recommend their products to friends or collegues as a result.
Now that that is out of the way, what I've gleaned from the hours spent trying to get through to customer care and the minutes talking to them is that the problem is in one of three places:
    1. Microscopic crack in motherboard (highly unlikely, but still it's a hypothesis thrown around by my computer tech friends)
    2. The keyboard and touch pad connectors are improperly seated or faulty
    3. The RAM modules are improperly seated or faulty
As far as I know there is no solution to problem 1 IF it is indeed the cause. I tend to apply the following process to try to cover both possible causes 2 and 3:
    1. Remove keyboard and connectors from laptop
    2. Remove and replace RAM modules
    3. Remove touchpad connector (it looks like a tiny connector like how the two keyboard connectors attach to the motherboard)
    4. Replace all connectors very carefully and ensuring that they are fully installed
    5. Replace keyboard
That SHOULD do it in theory. It's worth pointing out that I haven't had to do this with my laptop since January, but the trust is broken. I used to have to do it at least once a week since I got it and it was a nightmare, especially in the middle of a busy college term.
    I hope that helps.

i think it's worth trying to remove all input related stuff from xorg.conf, enable hotplugging with a /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi similar to this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">
    <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string">synaptics</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.AlwaysCore" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.VertEdgeScroll" type="string">true</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.MaxTapTime" type="string">180</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.FastTaps" type="string">1</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton1" type="string">1</merge>

  • DV6-2177 Right Mouse Button (touchpad) not working.

I've got a dv6-2177, 3 months old and the right mouse button isn't working.  When I right click, there is no context menu that shows up.  I've reloaded the pointing device drivers but it doesn't solve the problem.  Any external mouse that I connect will work fine but the built in right button is useless.
Any idea what the problem is?

I have the same issue. It has been driving me nuts for months. I have tried everything, and done a LOT of research. The left click brings on the context menu on the desktop and in a few other instances. The right click does not work AT ALL... even if you try to set it up as a tap-a-touch feature (so it is not the hardware), and also the windows lose focus, until you hit the start menu key, or control alt delete, if it is being really stubborn. I have an HP G7... only 6 months old. HP or Synaptic needs to fix this!! It makes my laptop almost useless and definitely frustrating to use!!

  • HP Mini- left mouse button is broken. warrany?

I bought an HP Mini about six months ago, and I have recently been having trouble with my left mouse button. You see, my left mouse button is loose, wiggly, and does not respond as well as it used to. IT is also not raised as high as it is supposed to be. My right mouse button, on the other hand, works like a charm. I think the metal contact inside the electronic button might be bent and might need replacement. Is this covered in my warranty? I haven't abused it or anything. I recall that I have at least a one year warranty.
Also: do I have to send it in to HP, or is the store authorized to fix it? If I need to send it to HP, I would do so in July.
My model is HP Mini 110-1118CA. I bought it from a Futureshop in western Canada.

    Hello LAHPUser,
I understand at times the left click button the touchpad will stop functioning.
Because this issue is sporadic and doesn't happen all the time we will try our best to correct the issue.
First thing let’s see what driver version you have for your touchpad. Access your device manager if your not sure how to get there click on this link,  once there go down to the section mice and other pointing devices. Expand that section then right click on synaptics touchpad, then left click on properties. You should get a window that comes up click on the driver tab and see what it says regarding driver version.
After that task click on this link which will take you to the most recent driver update and if the driver is older than what you see on the webpage install that driver.
Let me know what you get.
    Thanks

  • Satellite P300 - Left Mouse Button sticking

    Hey folks,
ive a satellite p300, its about 2/3 years old and in the last few days the left mouse button has gone belly up on me.
It no longer springs back up when i press it and needs a bit of wiggeling about to un-click it.
i dont mind opening it up if its a reasonably easy thing to fix, however id prefer not to do it if it *needs* to be replaced.
    anyone have any ideas/walk throughs?
    Thanks in advance!

    Yes, I agree wit Akuma.
The touchpad button needs to be replaced.
Im not quite sure if it would be possible to replace only the button.
Possibly the whole touchpad needs to be replaced
However, this is a job for a Toshiba ASP technician

  • Why don't my mouse button/trackpad work?

    Hello!
I've been enjoying my MacBook Pro since 2006, and while I had no intention of replacing it anytime soon, something just came up that's driving me crazy:
My mouse button abruptly stopped working three days ago. Mechanically it doesn't feel as though there's anything wrong with it; it clicks as normal. But the MacBook just refuses to acknowledge it's there. What's really weird is, when I plug a USB mouse in and use that, the trackpad acts like it normally would: moving around the pointer, scrolling when I use two fingers, etc. The only indication anything is wrong with it: it highlights everything I drag the pointer over.
However, if the USB mouse is unplugged, the trackpad does one-finger scrolling and highlights everything on the screen.
I'm hoping this isn't something mechanical, because I'm out-of-warranty and can't afford the high costs of repairs (I thought I had AppleCare still, but apparently not). Has anyone else encountered this issue, and is there any way I can fix it? I use my computer on the go a lot and can't stand carrying around a separate mouse.
    Thanks!

    Bard-kun,
    A couple of thoughts.
Firstly you might want to check that your battery hasn't started going "bad" and swollen, as this can cause a variety of trackpad and button issues.
Secondly, I'd try a PRAM reset (Shut down. Then hold down "command option P R" while starting up. Keep the keys depressed until the chimes have sounded at least twice).
Next, if the above doesn't fix it, I'd try an SMC reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964).
If none of this does the job, then you could try heading to the "preferences" folder in the "Library" folder in your "Home" folder and deleting "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" and restarting. Doing this may change other related customised settings however.
Have you installed any third party mouse or keyboard software? If so it would be worth trying removing or disabling it.
If none of the above resolve the issue then I'd be suspecting a hardware issue.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • T30 freezing issues and Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons not working.

Firstly I'll explain the freezing issue (this is now the 3rd time I've typed this, as the first two times my laptop froze before I finished!)
I run my laptop with the battery at 100% and plugged in and that's fine; as is running it on battery. The problem arises when my battery is low and I plug it into recharge. Soon after it's running on a/c the screen will go black and only way to shut down is by holding the power button. If I try to restart it too soon, the indicator lights next to the power button will illuminate, but the screen will stay black. Usually after 5-10 minutes it'll boot to the IBM screen & boot the rest of the way, but not too long into normal operation it'll go black again (sometimes hitting ctrl/alt/del will bring the screen back but it would be very distorted (pixilized) and would go black again and reboot. What could be causing these problems while recharging the battery? I've tried this with a couple different batteries (both OEM IBM) and it does it with both.
Secondly, both left and right "mouse" buttons are now nonfunctional (though the middle button of the track points works.) I have the latest version of Ultranav Wizard and all the buttons are enabled. The touch pad and trackpoint ball work fine, just the 2 left and 2 right buttons do not. What could be the culprit for this issue? Luckily I have a usb mouse so that's what I'm using for the time being.
Message Edited by GoalieFergy53 on 02-14-2009 02:30 PM

My T42p Touchpad and Trackpoint work fine however,
the buttons are not responding properly.
I'm forced to use an optical mouse to properly maneuver when working on
    the screen.

  • Powerbook G4 mouse button won't work

My wife has a titanium powerbook g4 and she has been having problems with the mouse button on the laptop.  You have to push it just right to get it to work, if you are lucky.  I wasn't sure if I could clean the button or if anyone has had this issue and had to replace it.
    Thanks for any info.

Try this - Reset the trackpad by placing your entire palm directly onto the whole trackpad for 3 to 4 seconds, and then remove your hand from the trackpad in one smooth motion.
